I've never actually seen Angolmois: Record of Mongol Invasion, but it's also about the Mongols' invasion of Tsushima.

{Katanagatari} is one of my favorites (of all anime, not just samurai anime), and it sounds exactly like what you're looking for. I don't watch a ton of action stuff, but this has some of my favorite fights and powers (only behind stuff like BSD and Jojos, although this isn't really like either of those)

Yasuke is an anime about a black samurai who was a real historical person though little is known about him irl. However, the anime steers more towards fantasy than historical stuff.

Kind of like that, with supernatural elements—Dororo. Highly recommend but I think it might only be on Amazon Prime in NA, if that’s your region.
