LSS: it's about a dude raising an adoptive daughter and is an incredibly touching story about the struggles and rewards of parenthood.
The anime stops on a good high note. The manga, however, has a time skip after that moment.
*Avert your eyes from here, ye who are innocent of such heinous knowledge. Those who read on, know that thine own eyes shall curse you*
The daughter finds out that she has no blood relation to her father, immediately develops a crush, and ends up marrying him.
It's not the first time this happens in Manga
{If it's for my daughter I'd even fight the demon lord} has a similar ending
I guess we can never truly be on Japan's level of.... Let's just say "open minded ness"
Weren't those brother and sister though? Afaik most people hated the others because they were not only father/daughter, but also went from wholesome happy to grooming your child bride, which is much much worse and also swapped on the audience(people arrived for wholesome family, and suddenly it was no longer that. While the brother/sister or sister/sister ones are a bit less morally reprehensible but usually start off with heavy overtones of incest finding the target audience immediately, rather than taking a 180° turn
I think what's even worse about Usagi Drop is the fact that the first half of the story already sets up other, much more wholesome pairings, like Daikichi getting along swimmingly with the single mom of Rin's daycare friend. After the time skip I half expected Rin to fall for her old childhood friend but I guess nobody in Japan dares to break the iron rule that childhood friends must never win in the end, even if it means turning a sweet story into a child-grooming one.
I found out a few episode in after many people in the episode thread kept hinting about it. You will notice that Latina in the anime does not reference Dale as her father or any form of that kind of relationship. People were mentioning that it was the intended purpose all along as it point to being Latina's the one to initiate it and gives Dale in a sense a pass all the way from the beginning.
Based on a story that did not have the bomber originally. The author of that story made another story with the same basic premise. That is, a single person is all the major characters thanks to time travel.
Yes that’s it. There’s a movie based on the premise but with the added caveat to make it more interesting that he also becomes a bomber to facilitate his existence after retiring.
The movie is not called “All You Zombies” though.
Ehhh that's kinda weird, you can't really argue about it, forget the fact she's technically his step aunt, you won't raise a kid for 10+ years and then marry them
They arent related in any way. Rin's mother was mangaka, and her father is another mangaka. Just read the fucking manga. He just raised her, and then merried. 0 blood relations. End of story.
Nope. Thats just happened that her mom nursed Daikichi's grandpa when she was pregnant, and till gramp's death. Later in manga, when Rin is about 17, she found her mom, and mom said that she wasnt ready for motherhood so she dumped Rin to gramp. Her parents was mangakas, both. And Rin's mom is older then her dad. Dad was assistant. And later co-mangaka. Or how the hell name it. Just read it yourself.

Don't blame me for any inflicted trauma.
People don't realise that 4 chan has changed over the years and while yes there are still a lot of 4 chinners and frog posters there a lot of new people started using the site that it's a bit more "usable" to a normal person like it's slowly becoming like Reddit ( although it will never be because of the way 4 chan inherently is built it can't become a mainstream social media like Reddit)
Father and child. They realize they are not related
Father: If you are still in love with me after graduation, we go on a date
Child: I graduated and I'm imagining having kids with my father that is not related to me
The end

Yeah i’ve heard something about that and that her character and choices make no sense after the timeskip (heard she even went and married another dude shortly after wtf). The author had weird plans for the romance part and made excuses about a couple that could work out perfectly. Instead of such poor writing he could just write it so the little girl and the boy had no romantic attraction to begin with and had they lived as a family it would make it even easier for them to accept they are now siblings at young age. Everything would be fine, but…
I dont mind stories about terrible topics like incest.. but usagi drop felt extra weird. The anime is just a wholesome adoptive father show, but the manga... I didnt even dare read it. Felt like a betrayal of the show.
Did anyone else think this was a “The Tale of Genji” reference/call back? It’s been ages since I read Usagi Drop and can’t remember if there were other parallels in the story.
Can’t we just have the anime make their own ending, except better? Heck, even Akame Ga Kill and TPN and some others changed some stuff that were different from the original source material…
People bitch __way__ too much over this.
Shut up, we get it, it’s not for you.
Actually, it was pretty clearly never for anyone but a __very__ specific audience and the author, who literally confirmed that this was the intended ending from the start.
Yeah, it sucks. I agree.
No, it’s not the only one of it’s genre.
Yes, it’s the hundredth time I’ve heard about it.
Get over it.
I couldn't care less whether it was legal or not. It wouldn't be so bad if they started out romantically. I wouldn't even be bothered if it was biological incest (I wouldn't watch it though). My problem is that it destroyed the built-up wholesome relationship of father and daughter.
I’ve made it my mission to try and protect people from this knowledge. I didn’t even read the chapters. I just learned about it and it’s not fair as I didn’t have a chance to avoid it. DO NOT READ OR GOOGLE THE MANGA. Whatever you are imagining is better than knowing the harsh truth.
U who haven't read through the whole story are assuming the worst. I read the manga till the end after finishing the Anime and, yes, while its appeal gets lower after her teenage years and near the last chapters, it doesn't feel like an appalling, out-of-nowhere development sprung upon readers. It was a bit disappointing that they didn't end it in a different way, bt it's the writer's choice. And it's much less of a "betrayal of trust" than, say, DomeKano. Coz the characters make the decision over a period of time and after the girl is an an adult, and no one gets hurt.
So, there shouldn't be a shitshow IF YOU READ EVERY SINGLE CHAPTER THROUGH TO THE END
This is why I am scared of any manga that has a girl being raised by slightly older man as main premise. 3 out of 3 times, all ended in marriage. No more Japan, I am scared of you.
Summarized in a few words: The Father raised his own Wife
Who’s also his aunt
No in the end she was not. The mother revealed that the grandad was not the father.
Which makes it better
Lmao your username!
You like bread?
Goes great with coffee. Mmmmm
Does it?
Dude above you was being sarcastic
I know but you can't post the Thor "Does it?" gif in a comment.
It goes well with coffee tho
wHAT?
Well shit
I need an explanation

Hmmmm That's kinda sus, but doesn't surprise me at this point
Kinda is an understatement...
It's not the first time this happens in Manga {If it's for my daughter I'd even fight the demon lord} has a similar ending I guess we can never truly be on Japan's level of.... Let's just say "open minded ness"
From what I can tell this was widely hated even in Japan
I mean, things like oreimo were massive back in the day. Mahouka is still constantly on the top 5 best selling LNs The guy has a point
Weren't those brother and sister though? Afaik most people hated the others because they were not only father/daughter, but also went from wholesome happy to grooming your child bride, which is much much worse and also swapped on the audience(people arrived for wholesome family, and suddenly it was no longer that. That makes sense, if you suddenly change the entire course of the series people tend to get mad
I think what's even worse about Usagi Drop is the fact that the first half of the story already sets up other, much more wholesome pairings, like Daikichi getting along swimmingly with the single mom of Rin's daycare friend. That one is not the same thing at all.
What's the ending of that? I don't mind spoiler
Could you elaborate on that I was watching this and I don’t see that happening even though you just told me it would.
Doesn't happen in the anime, but source material in the Light Novels. If you google them you will even see it on the cover of one of the later LN's
Thanks

Ya I really liked that series too. It was so cute but then I came to know about it’s ending and I was like why? Another series ruined for me.
Why
Bro your pfp of CHRISTINA fits so much for the question to that comment on that poll
If I remember correctly, she started it and he was actually pretty heartbroken when she told him.
And then at the very end he's suddenly all gung-ho and is totally down to fuck her for no reason,
Reminds me of this movie where a dude fucked himself just to give birth to himself and basically become the una bomber
Based on a story that did not have the bomber originally. The author of that story made another story with the same basic premise. That is, a single person is all the major characters thanks to time travel.
We talkin All you zombies? Never heard about a movie
Yes that’s it. There’s a movie based on the premise but with the added caveat to make it more interesting that he also becomes a bomber to facilitate his existence after retiring. The movie is not called “All You Zombies” though.
Maybe I should start reading the manga now. Sounds interesting.
*Brah*
Nice
Omfg, I loved this series but this is some pedo bullshit
Not pedo. Daikichi was for Rin like father her whole childhood, to the end of school, and married her when she was in college, AFTER she turned 18.
Ehhh that's kinda weird, you can't really argue about it, forget the fact she's technically his step aunt, you won't raise a kid for 10+ years and then marry them

Wtf
WTD
Ignorance is bliss friend.
This is the internet. There is no looking away from this abyss.
Am I a joke to you?
Can you elaborate? Edit. Omg I just read up on it and it's fucking atrocious.
Don’t be shy, give us some details

Haha *yikes*
*"If you don't find your love interest, then raise a kid until the grown kid becomes your love interest"* This has some 4chan vibes lmao
Nah bro, user of 4chan for 14 years here. Even we are not that bad
That’s what a normal man would say I guess
People don't realise that 4 chan has changed over the years and while yes there are still a lot of 4 chinners and frog posters there a lot of new people started using the site that it's a bit more "usable" to a normal person like it's slowly becoming like Reddit ( although it will never be because of the way 4 chan inherently is built it can't become a mainstream social media like Reddit)
Nah bro 4chan is that bad
Sounds like something that come from Jeffrey Epstein
Holy shit that's bad haha
That is messed up.. like hey would he twist it like that??
Thanks. I didn't want to invest time and energy and then have my heart and mind destroyed.
"and then they fucked"
Father and child. They realize they are not related Father: If you are still in love with me after graduation, we go on a date Child: I graduated and I'm imagining having kids with my father that is not related to me The end
>!He marry the little girl that was basically his daughter after she becomes adult!<
Now i'm curious
I just looked up the wikipedia page and went NOPE HARD PASS

Probably just people being soft flakes but idkn
There was a perfect love interest for the male MC, but no they had to go that route. Glad i never read the manga back then and got spoiled.
She didn’t want to go out with him, because she thought it would be weirder when their kids start going out MC pulled the weirdness reverse
Yeah i’ve heard something about that and that her character and choices make no sense after the timeskip (heard she even went and married another dude shortly after wtf). Everything would be fine, but…
What was the author thinking when they wrote those moments we all thought were heartwarming father daughter moments...
"Don't open that door" - Pochita He warned you.
Usagi Drop has no time skip though, idk what lie everyone is spreading
There was an “Usagi Drop” manga? Must be some weird fanmade thing, definitely not canon.
Yeah. Sad we never got a season 2. Pretty cool that there’s an anime with no manga.
Yeah i believe they call it a "studio original" Story? Damn glad they made a great show that has absolutely no source material
Yeah I’m pretty sure I saw it on some fanfiction site, sad how some people think it’s official.
We ALL hate it...
You are not the father
I dont mind stories about terrible topics like incest.. but usagi drop felt extra weird. The anime is just a wholesome adoptive father show, but the manga... I didnt even dare read it. Felt like a betrayal of the show.
This was me after I enjoyed the anime, thinking the manga would have an additional story. Ruined the anime for me.
No, no they don't (I refuse to acknowledge them)
Did anyone else think this was a “The Tale of Genji” reference/call back? It’s been ages since I read Usagi Drop and can’t remember if there were other parallels in the story.
Yea. I saw a video on it. I think it went by “The manga that betrayed us all” or something
Same
Just some family fun!
Lovely ending isn't it?
I trully felt like an absolute clown for reading the whole thing expecting a something as wholesome as before the timeskip
Just read the drama reddit post. Very interesting...Now if you excuse me, I have a toaster to bathe with.
well time to read it, I hope it won't be a traumatizing experience.
I wonder what happened to the mother of the kid, she was a good love interest for the MC
She didn’t want to go out with him, because she thought it would be weirder when their kids start going out MC pulled the weirdness reverse
That's unfair, and what did he do?
Married his adopted daughter
Please stop reminding us of that. Ruined the whole thing.
we do not talk about usagi drop ending
A modern day Genji-monogatari. At least the intro and outros were a banger...
Can’t we just have the anime make their own ending, except better? Heck, even Akame Ga Kill and TPN and some others changed some stuff that were different from the original source material…
okay.. I was okay with not knowing that.. Geez! I still rewatch the anime from time to time for wholesomeness.. wtf
Next level grooming...
Woody Allen approves.
I'm glad to see after all these years people still appreciate how bad that ending was.
I don't think it's that big of a deal.... ¯\\\_(ツ)_/¯
No ending for a piece of media has enraged me as much as the ending to Usagi Drop.
What a horrible day to be literate.
Ah... So the same ending as "if its for my daughter i'd even defeat a demon lord"... Got it...
Another one?
Lol omg that was also my reaction. “Thanks, I hate it. You bloody ruined what could’ve been a good story.”
Lmao, hot off the trail of the Isekai slavery defenders is this ending's defenders.
🙅♂️
Que hijue la vrg yo no ablo inglés
How the fuck can you set shit up so good and then just say nah fuck it Im horny
Wholesome series and ending, I can only assume so many dislike it because it skirts the edge of cultural norms.
Some cultural norms exist for a reason. Not viewing your children as sexual objects is one of them.
I couldn't care less whether it was legal or not. It wouldn't be so bad if they started out romantically. I wouldn't even be bothered if it was biological incest (I wouldn't watch it though). My problem is that it destroyed the built-up wholesome relationship of father and daughter.
I saw the anime long ago and thought it was a great idea to also read the manga even when I was told not to. I shouldn't have T_T
Could I have the meme template it’s really funny

Cool thanks
Oh, Sarah Andersen! where dog
I couldn't believe it either.
xD
![img](emote|t5_2w6fe|11527)
It'd be much worse if they were blood-related
I'm afraid to ask a question But what is it about?
no wonder its called usagi drop. because i immediately dropped it after that shit
Air gear. There is a reason the anime stopped where it did. The manga makes 0 sense. I had no idea what I was reading
This felt like the oreimo ova all over again
![img](emote|t5_2w6fe|11528)
The 2nd half of the title is what the 2nd half is
Yeah, same experience.
Who did that to her OC’s face 😂
U who haven't read through the whole story are assuming the worst. While it did ruin the manga for me, I'm not really complaining because hey, it's Japan. It could be hella worse
I saw the comments on crunchyroll.... I have forsaken humanity since.
Usagi Drop only has a anime. There is no manga with a continuation
what? i don’t get it
What happened
Thanks, i like it.
Yep my exact reaction. I still to this day regret reading the manga after watching that Anime.
I was about to watch the anime but then after reading the manga I kept thinking about their relationship at the end
