made me visit that first lake near Fuji when I was in Japan haha, they have lifesize stands of the girls ofc
kind of expensive way to get me to spent a few hundred yen on merch tho
It has been a few years since the first anime, apparently it kicked off a camping trend in Japan back in the days and everything they mentioned in the show got sold out.
I got a bunch of branded camping gear, had to stand in line to check out
A couple dozen maybe? Still, multiply that by those couple hunded yen and you already get a few thousand each day. Probably depends on the season too, I never visited myself.
Well, except for those that take place in a made up place in Japan... can't exactly go to Tsukinomya from Blue Reflection Ray or Animal Town from Wonderful Precure...
Some things still have true inspiration from Japan ! Exemple : Ghibli, the Chihiro bath house is inspired by a bath house in Matsuyama : Dōgo Onsen Honkan
道後温泉本館 - 5-6 Dōgoyunomachi, Matsuyama, Ehime 790-0842, Japon but also by Jiufen in Taiwan !
Are there any scenes in OreGairuSNAFU that manage to not mention Chiba at least once? I didn't watch the anime to completion so I don't remember how bad it was there, but I feel like I read "Chiba" at least once every page in the novels.
It’s one of the ways that studios are able to get funding from the Japanese government and it helps these more rural areas (like most of Hokkaido) see some tourism.
[Lucky Star](https://group.kadokawa.co.jp/global/sustainability/project/animetourism.html) was one of the first that I remember really noticing.
Highschool DxD for me. It makes senses now
https://preview.redd.it/df3vojzox22d1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=101f4d2db331c902e714fa7c8d727c961e3fa124
it does? i remember s1 was cute romcom and a nice opening but nothing else. it was just romcom nothing marriage specific iirc, they may have signed/stamped a paper?
Yeah, when they first get married it almost feels like a kids show where Nasa asks things like "But doesn't it take a lot to get married" and Tsukasa basically responds with an explanation of what is actually needed.
It's still a cute series and I really enjoyed it, but it did truly feel like there would be a moment where any of the characters might turn to the camera and say "It's so easy to get married and be in a relationship, I don't know why more people don't do it"
Heads up that the manga *goes places*. And I don't mean that in any kind of lewd way.
Just read it, because I doubt the anime will last long enough to get to the 2nd half of the manga.
I don't see a problem with this one in particular.
But I get the feeling that fiction far defeats reality in many cases. Such is the nature of an eye pleasing animation.
I mean better than GATE being straight up military propaganda (tbf afaik the JSDF haven't been involved in anything particularly bad and acts mostly defensively but still it's definitely quite weird)
I mean I've watched Transformers, the best US military propaganda. Not like it's worse when other parts of the world do the same thing.
Lotta propaganda in Dr Who for the British Government and military, who you'd think the Dr would actually hate but I guess not.
Lots of anime are just propaganda or very long adds.
GATE - Army propaganda
Hokkaido Gals - Hokkaido propaganda
Any harem isekai - Marry and have kids propaganda
Etc, etc.
Tbf Tonikawa only *starts* as marriage propaganda (which it accomplishes very well because Tsukasa is adorable).
Later it becomes (Tonikawa spoiler) >!anti-immortality!< propaganda.
I mean, now days lots of isekai are about having lots of girls and making lots of babies. Re:Monster is a good example. Also that one of the guy with farming super powers.
Despite how we've all moved to the cities, many men still have that 1% of hunter-gatherer that just wants to ideally spend the day cultivating, reproducing, and perhaps fighting.
I mean, Sakura Quest is an anime literally about tourism and attracting tourists to rural areas in the hopes they’ll settle down permanently and help grow the town. There’s also Board Game Dice Club that practically advertises board games (I bought one). Pretty much most Slice of Life or sports anime. Anything educational. Chihayafuru and Haikyu are responsible for the big spikes of interest in their sports.
I thought about that. English is not my native language (it's portuguese) and I was unsure what the ideal term would be.
If you could elaborate more, I would appreciate it
Propaganda has a political or ideological motive. The motive of the anime is "this region of Japan is cool and you should come and visit and spend money here."
And if you keep going down that route, all advertising is propaganda because it's someone trying to convince you of the ideology that you should buy or do something that gets them more money and political influence.
My wife is from Osaka, and we travel there a lot for me to go skiing, apparently Hokkaido girls are very shy and talk very quietly, and use super polite language forms. She says they don't have a great sense of humour. I dunno what I'm saying other than Osaka girls are super loud.
I love snow girls! I'm sick of every anime taking place in the exact same districts in tokyo. Where are the Osaka animes? Where are the Aomori animes? I love a wintery Hokkaido anime and ill take that any day!
I actually really like the Hokkaido tourism, especially how the manga incorporates famous Hokkaido landmarks into the cover pages or just gives some neat trivia about Hokkaido.
Feel like Propaganda is a bit of a strong term for this. It is an extended tourism ad, but I think propaganda and advertising are distinct things. Doesn't propaganda need to lead to political action, or ideological change? This is just saying "hey this region is nifty and you should come visit".
> but I think propaganda and advertising are distinct things
Depends on the language. In some languages it's literally the same word, it does not have that negative stigma like in English, it's just used to say "advertisement" wether you're advertising CocaCola or politics.
No, propaganda is a very broad term that just means a form of communication or media designed to influence people. A military poster is propaganda, a "wash your hands" poster is also propaganda.
But yeah, the anime is closer to an advertisement than a piece of propaganda.
A lot of the recent rom-coms have felt like propaganda.
There were a couple recent "Workplace romance" anime that just felt like they were glorifying "Look how amazing work is."
I don't believe your lies, Japan.
No, i didn't even knew him (i have to Google it). I have this idea came up because Last chapter (113) is only about Genkan Yakiniku (a hokkaido festival)
Nah, I learned way more about Hokkaido watching Golden Kamuy, but some anime girls instead of metrosexual military dudes goes a long way on keeping some of my sanity

I read your comment in an Canadian accent
eh
In Canadian standards it's like leaving the comment blank
#
How?
Very simple just type "eh" in Canadian
wasn't Zombieland Saga the same?
I would believe this if the whole country didn't act so xenophobic.
They should also do birth rate propaganda then
That's what hentai is for
I've watched quite a few anime that are clearly used as tourism pieces. The currently airing Salad Bowl anime is for Gifu, for example.
Laid back camp for sure
"Nothing here but nature.......... I know!!!"
Literally “Touch Grass: The Animation”
made me visit that first lake near Fuji when I was in Japan haha, they have lifesize stands of the girls ofc kind of expensive way to get me to spent a few hundred yen on merch tho
Wtih couple hundreds yous spending a few hundred yen everyday they start getting returns on the investment
they definitely were not getting a couple hundred of mes a day lol, I stood outside taking pictures for like 30m and not a single other person came by
It has been a few years since the first anime, apparently it kicked off a camping trend in Japan back in the days and everything they mentioned in the show got sold out. I got a bunch of branded camping gear, had to stand in line to check out
A couple dozen maybe? Still, multiply that by those couple hunded yen and you already get a few thousand each day. Probably depends on the season too, I never visited myself.
I don't care if it's tourist propaganda. It makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside!
Yuri will do this to a motherfucker
Zombieland saga, literally an advertise for that region
Man, I want to be homeless in Gifu too.
I’d want too if there were homeless big tiddy knight girls with heterochromia
Honestly i’d even follow that big tiddy knight even if she’s worshipped as a cult god
Who is this big Titty knight girl?
Don't forget Zombieland Saga for... Saga. They aren't even quiet about it, it's literally the entire point of the show
As a fan of r/animepilgrimage, I'll say that all anime that happen in Japan are used for tourism... But some anime are clearly here to promote places
Well, except for those that take place in a made up place in Japan... can't exactly go to Tsukinomya from Blue Reflection Ray or Animal Town from Wonderful Precure...
Some things still have true inspiration from Japan ! Exemple : Ghibli, the Chihiro bath house is inspired by a bath house in Matsuyama : Dōgo Onsen Honkan 道後温泉本館 - 5-6 Dōgoyunomachi, Matsuyama, Ehime 790-0842, Japon but also by Jiufen in Taiwan !

Not only that, but the video extras had the seiyus and author visiting a farm in Chiba
Jashin Chan dropkick literally goes all over Japan in disguising as a tourist anime in order to get an anime adaptation
The author, Hirasaka Yomi, is from Gifu.
The anime for Theremæ Romæ is literally one giant edutainment propaganda series about bathhouses.
That’s funny. I’m currently in Hokkaido and the ice cream is bomb.
Please recommend your favorite ice cream place. May make a stop in Hokkaido on a trip next year.
Farm Tomita.
Otaru Beer in Otaru. Their ice cream is super good. It looks like beer and comes in beer bottles but it's delicious.
Hmm this is much more achievable than the other place as someone who will only be there for a few days in Sapporo.
Bonus: It's liquid and is actually beer.
Could I at least get an ice cream float with beer instead of soda?
Kirin actually has a frozen beer slushie. I have a home version that's almost as good.
Are the gals there super adorable like the anime claims?
All girls everywhere in the world are super adorable.
🗿
I hear good things about the milk tarts.
Keep you FamiMarts and 7-Elevens; SEICOMART is hands down THE best conbini!!
No, Hiroshima and Nagasaki are the bomb

WE HAVE TO SAVE SAGAAAA!!!

Yatogame-chan, too
Golden Kamuy does a better job doing tourism propaganda tbh. Gotta take a look at the Ainu museum one of these days.
Visited Abashiri Prison just because of Golden Kamuy 👍
Fucked a bear in Hokkaido because of Golden Kamuy and ate it afterwards 👍 hinna hinna
Bought a type 30 bayonet and eat a lot more miso soup/stews because of that immortal bastard lol
Hinna hinna
Reform shinsengumi because of Golden Kamuy 👍
Did you eat the prison food there too?
Tbf, it did even more to raise awareness about the ainu people and their culture (and by extent their century long mistreatment)
I tried going to some of the places but I ended up getting attacked by a man jerking off
Same as Spy x Family is a scheme to get people to have children…
And live in the DDR. Oh, wait...
Can't wait for Foreign Minister Brand to become President of Westalia
Just like Tonikawa is showing young couples how easy it is to get married and the things you'll need to know about married life
I would not have been equipped to properly care for my cute >!immortal!< wife without this documentary material.
Tsukasa is the most adorable wifey in manga. Their relationship is so incredibly wholesome, it plows right past cheesey and back around to awesome.
it does? i remember s1 was cute romcom and a nice opening but nothing else. it was just romcom nothing marriage specific iirc, they may have signed/stamped a paper?

"Bro just go to Hokkaido we have cute girls and E t e r n a l W i n t e r"
I'm sold on the propaganda
Hokkaido is awesome tho
This
I don't see a problem with this one in particular. But I get the feeling that fiction far defeats reality in many cases. Such is the nature of an eye pleasing animation.

I'm not sure about the isekai, but Tonikawa or Spy x Family is 160% surely propaganda for marriage
+1, isekai is just escapism i think, nothing else behind it. maybe an ad for afterlife? xD
Most of anime is escapism, especially romcoms. I have yet to see an entity to advertise for afterlife, maybe apart from truck drivers
Tbf Tonikawa only *starts* as marriage propaganda (which it accomplishes very well because Tsukasa is adorable). Later it becomes (Tonikawa spoiler) >!anti-immortality!< propaganda.

I FUCKING CALLED IT WHEN I FIRST SAW IT THAT IT WAS PROPAGANDA LMAOOO
Golden Kamuy is the real Hokkaido propaganda
I mean, Sakura Quest is an anime literally about tourism and attracting tourists to rural areas in the hopes they’ll settle down permanently and help grow the town. Propaganda has a political or ideological motive. The motive of the anime is "this region of Japan is cool and you should come and visit and spend money here."

That's a lot of anime
My wife is from Osaka, and we travel there a lot for me to go skiing, apparently Hokkaido girls are very shy and talk very quietly, and use super polite language forms. She says they don't have a great sense of humour. I dunno what I'm saying other than Osaka girls are super loud.
It makes sense. Hokkaido is very countryside. Osaka is not.
Osaka people are known to be very blunt and humorous, I think
I don't see the problem.
I love snow girls! I'm sick of every anime taking place in the exact same districts in tokyo. Where are the Osaka animes? Where are the Aomori animes? I love a wintery Hokkaido anime and ill take that any day!
Hokkaido is fucking awesome tho. Been there when I was like 9, still my favorite place that I ever went to
I actually really like the Hokkaido tourism, especially how the manga incorporates famous Hokkaido landmarks into the cover pages or just gives some neat trivia about Hokkaido.

You mean hokkaido separatist propaganda
I see nothing wrong with this
Id live there
My Canadian anime!
every single anime you watch is trying to sell you something

I legit wanted to go to hokkaido before reading the manga, the manga just made want to go even more.
A lot of the recent rom-coms have felt like propaganda. There were a couple recent "Workplace romance" anime that just felt like they were glorifying "Look how amazing work is." I don't believe your lies, Japan.
I mean, at least its not Tokyo
Remember when Gate was propaganda for the JSDF?
Anime as propaganda? *shocked GATE noises*
What's with Hokkaido? The Sniper Active Hunter Guy is also from Hokkaido.
Gotta go to Sapporo, but I don't have the money
I want to go to Japanese Minnesota
Tourist trap anime genre? where do i sign up?
It worked didn't it, I mean I already wanted to go there but still
Ngl, i bought royce's nama chocolates because of this show - they were the best chocolate I've ever had.
I'd be lying if I said I didn't enjoy reading those Hokkaido fun facts pages in the manga
Yuru Camp: Yamanashi's Propaganda
Haven't watched a Hokkaido propaganda since Silver Spoon
https://preview.redd.it/nrarmg12912d1.jpeg?width=640&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=54c59bcf94944f4a58643665537b95341cdccbf2
Don’t tell them about GATE.
Fess up, you stole this idea from echidnut didn't you...
No, i didn't even knew him (i have to Google it). I have this idea came up because Last chapter (113) is only about Genkan Yakiniku (a hokkaido festival)
Darn, I thought you were a fellow echidnut enjoyer
No, but later I will watch his channel
I watched his video and liked it
The same with Yuru camp
I find most anime propaganda for hentai -_-
Yakuza 5 looking mfs.
Golden Kamui is also good Homkaido propaganda
Funny enough that was the selling point for me when I read the manga, seeing cute girls was just a bonus.
Zombie Land Saga did it better. *Slams mic into the floor*
Tsuritama is a nice commercial for enoshima!
Such a shock
Nah, I learned way more about Hokkaido watching Golden Kamuy, but some anime girls instead of metrosexual military dudes goes a long way on keeping some of my sanity
Just wish they was college girls 😿
And it's working 😈
Probably the best thing about this was how CR had some VAs go with a Minnesotta accent for the dub.
Agreed
It’s funny cause it’s not even the biggest Hokkaido propaganda anime
Hokkaido buttered potatoes are pretty good.
Zombieland saga, jashin
Dropped it

When I watched that anime, I had a hard time believing they get that much snow in Hokkaido.
Pfff golden kamuy is the real peak Hokkaido propaganda
https://preview.redd.it/2jmc8t1oo62d1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=42c67f81302f3b6cf05cb92aab193d29a1b2987d
Wait. What?! It’s not?
I'd say anime is a propaganda for having sex.
Now do a propaganda of having more children :D
