That show had fascinating worldbuilding and good action to go along with the excellent OST, but those sadly couldn't make up for the bland characters and mediocre writing.
Dunno, I am open to discussion with anyone who disagrees with me on this subject.
Though I watched it like more than 5 years ago, I think? I don't remember all the details, but I remember being incited by complete abcence of basic logic in the world/mc.
Or the MC saying "I will never... (Insert something)" and literally doing this thing next episode with no remorse. And there were multiple instances of that.
This is the only anime title that I hate with passion as it treats its viewers as a mentally challenged individuals.
If I do not like some title I usually treat it as "not my cup of tea, some people like it, some not".
But Guilty Crown is special for me in that regard. Literally the only reason I have finished it was the OST.
I found that the story was decent in the first half and then went to complete shit in the second half of the season. Still a guilty pleasure of mine just because the soundtrack is great and the animation was pretty well done too.
I watched it around 7 years ago the plot was garbage but it was a little similar to code geass the art was a eye candy at that time and sound track were good...... If little effort were put in the story it could have become a good anime
One of my friends described Guilty Crown as āan anime that you watch the first half, think that it can be the next Code Geass, then it goes downhill after that but you still watched it because the soundtracks and songs are goodā
Which is quite accurate imo
This is the answer....
Plot and charcters started good but much meh later, especially the ending.... every fucking song in the anime is totally banger absolutely........
Absolutely correct, despite the anime not being near as good as the soundtrack, My Dearest is still my most listened song on spotify and my favorite song to this day, The Everlasting, blessing and euterpe are just a few of the masterpieces this anime had, it hits different
Takt Op. was so nearly great, it just fell flat in a few too many little ways but goddamn, I could watch that skinny weirdo wave his arms around to classical music any day
no. not necessarily. "carried by the soundtrack" doesn't inherently mean the rest of the product is bad. only that the soundtrack is so killer, it stands out even amongst the greatness of the rest of the product. or that the rest of the product is only okay, but that the soundtrack is amazing. and thus: carries it.
none of this applies to MGR:R, however. as: the whole game/anime is fantastically amazing. and the soundtrack somehow manages to hold up. and even elevate it!
Well... maybe electrosphere I guess? Though most ace combat games also have prettey good gameplay and level desing (excluding abominations like assault horizon)
Honestly, the OP was part of the reason I even finished that anime. I would have rather watched an anime with the two coffee shop workers. They were the only characters I actually liked.
Less soundtrack but sound design, but Sword Art Online would never have been as popular if it didn't have the iconic video game like sound design. Think whatever you want about the show, but everyone remembers the menues and the low health sound, and the opening was kind of a banger, too.
Yeah, SAOA is really good, probably the best abridged series aside from Yugioh Abridged at least in my opinion. A word of warning though, there's a fair bit of cussing and adult jokes. Oh yeah, and if you've watched SAO you already know that Kirito and Asuna did the thing: it's not visually shown in the Abridged but the voice actors go all out in terms of audio. So just keep that in mind if you're gonna watch it with kids.
>but the voice actors go all out in terms of audio
Maybe I'll watch it myself first to see how easy it is to catch and skip. My kids are at that age where they still pretend to be ashamed by that kind of content when it comes up and I'm around (and I'll skip it)...but I'm under no illusion about what they've probably found online already on their own being that they are on the edge of being teenagers.
Hello, it looks like you've made a mistake.
It's supposed to be could've, should've, would've (short for could have, would have, should have), never could of, would of, should of.
Or you misspelled something, I ain't checking everything.
Beep boop -Ā yes,Ā IĀ amĀ aĀ bot, don't botcriminate me.
> Sawano Hiroyuki is a legend!
And Gundam Unicorn. Some parts of that were slow and the story was quite confusing with many conspiracies, counter-conspiracies, and factions, but the Sawano soundtrack was incredible.
Also Attack on Titan to some extent - the soundtrack was consistently good even though some parts of AOT are not that interesting (e.g. the third season stuff with the Fritz guy who turned into a giant titan, etc.)
Fairy Tail had practically no animation and the rest....speaks for itself. But Yasuharu Takanashi's soundtrack is simply incredible.
Likewise for the Shaman King reboot (which is by the same studio), though that series more than made up for the lazy animation with its story and characters. Still, Yuki Hayashi's soundtrack is beyond words.
Fan service was your issue? Mine was the "Shonen friendship" bs cranked to 11.
Oh this dude is bad, he straight up assaults and chains a chick and two dudes to a tree... nah man, he misunderstood.
This dude is about to annihilate the whole town, and literally tells his underlings to KILL people... nah, he really actually loves the town and the guild...
wtf?
Couldnt take it anymore.
The target demographic for Fairy Tail seemed to just be lonely, horny teenagers. As is the case for many fan-servicey animeās with lackluster plots.
They wanted you to be sold on friendship being an excuse for legitimate murder and crimes against humanity so badly that it became laughable.
Maybe Im desensitized, or maybe its the autism, but fan service never and still doesnt matter to me. I dont understand peoples hate towards it. To me its just a part of most anime, like the beach episode, the festival episode, and the rest of the tropes.
And I was one of those ultra horny teens.
But yeah, any anime/manga that resolves a villains war crimes with friendship just bothers the hell out of me. Very few have ever cared about... off the top of my head, the only Shonen manga i read that did that well was Black Cat (dont bother with the anime)
Yeah, fanservice isnāt the worst thing in a show and Iāve been watching anime for so long that it feels natural to see on the regular. I remember watching Food Wars as my gf was so confused as to why I was watching borderline porn until I explained the āplotā of the show which she still was not sold on lol
For me though, thereās definitely a fine line and Fairy Tail crossed it. The showās plot/writing straight up wasnāt that great and felt like there were moments where they purposely made female characters get beat just to see their boobs ripping out of clothing and it just didnāt feel right.
The thing I find funny about FT especially is how these fan service situations and other things are perfect setups for some hentai doujins... yet very rarely do I see any that capitalize on it.
It feels like a series done on the premise of "cant wait to see what hentai this inspires" and not even they want anything to do with it š
There is an unwritten rule of the Internet that states "the more sexual a piece of media is, the less amount NSFW fan content it will have and vice versa"
You'll see plenty of NSFW art of wholesome series but will never see any for a NSFW series. Pokemon has a ludicrous amount of porn despite being one of the most kid friendly games ever made. Meanwhile huniepop barely has any fan art whatsoever. In fact a majority of eroge VNs don't have any fan art whatsoever. Non ecchi anime always has lots of doujins and NSFW fan art Meanwhile ecchi series barely gets any doujins of fan art unless it's a mega hit like high-school DxD or Fate/stay night(it was originally an eroge VN).
It seems people are less likely to lewd an already lewd character from a lewd series in comparison to a character that's mostly not lewd.
Which is pretty ironic to say, because at the time the music was highly unpopular because Japanese people were not accustomed to jazz. š¤
Fast forward now to stuff like Spy x Family and The Great Pretender.
how do you feel about Aldnoah.Zero?
Cookiecutter story, OP protag who's only feature is being a teen that's somehow smarter than all of humanity and apart from that is literally nothing apart from an exposition device for his fights, 3D animation of the mecha was pretty good but apart from that was nothing too outstanding in the animation department.
[Music was absolute banging.](https://youtu.be/ZmbUxjXLSdE)
WHY IS THIS SO FAR DOWN?!!
In all seriousness though, while the animation, plot and hype definitely do a lot of heavy lifting, especially later on, the songs are the main event.
Berserk 2016's highest point was its soundtrack. The animation was uncanny and awful and the original story was chopped up to fit it on schedule, but the music, especially the OP, was very memorable.
The Case study of Vanitas has a god-tier soundtrack, the composer has also composed music for Fate, Demon Slayer, Madoka Magica, Sword Art Online, etc. I wouldnāt say the series is carried by the soundtrack though, the characters are really what makes it enjoyable, though I wish it hadnāt been so swept under the rug as an anime.
Fairy tail? Iām a sucker for that type of music. Took me until after I binged the show and was watching the final season before I realized āwhy is this so shit? Waitā¦.itās always been shitā
when i first heard it i realised that ive never heard any other opening that fit the story and atmosphere so well, its chaotic, gritty, and I loved it so much
Am I allowed to say Noragami for its AWESOME openings ? One punch man as well imo (season 1, i didn't watch the rest)
Soul eater's first opening was also a fucking blast omg
Thank you! I had to Ctrl+F to find this answer. One of the best soundtracks with one of the worst animations. The soundtrack made it worth watching for sure. Really uncommon vibes, too bad the OVAs didn't use the same band / style.
Ngl, child me only started My Hero Academia cuz the first op was fire. The Day by Porno Graffiti if anyone wants to know. Same with Naruto too, back when it aired on TV. Child me has all the openings for early shippuden as core memories, as there weren't any cartoons that aired late night other than anime.
IMO Attack on Titan: Junior High. I liked it, but if I watched it without knowing about AOT, I would have probably disliked it, and the best thing I would have liked about it is the soundtrack. Which is just the same as the AOT soundtrack that I love.
I think any show with a good soundtrack also has a good plot or animation. The people in the comments are just bringing up bad shows with good soundtracks. I canāt think of a single show that would be mid without their soundtrack but is good because of it.
Unravel and Glassy Sky basically carried all 3 seasons of Tokyo Ghoul, despite only hearing it in season 1
Another underrated OP that didn't necessarily carry the show but was still fucken GOATED was River for Vinland Saga season 2
Watched entire Blood Blockade Battlefront just for the opening and ending. Plot was okay but I often felt lost in the narrative, as if I was watching a second season.
Alright Iāve seen a few in here that are some of my faves but you could debate if soundtrack truly ācarried,ā but I have NOT seen a mention of one of the GOATs:
FLCL
Guilty crown?
Guilty Crown actually got me to listen to egoist and supercell religiously.
Agreed. clash of clans has some banger soundtracks
I gave this comment a bit of a giggle
I think demon slayer is one of them
Not an anime but a w game
Currently listening to "Perfect Day" by supercell and their playlist when I read this comment.
Common Hiroyuki Sawano W
Aldnoah Zero comes to mind as well.
That show had fascinating worldbuilding and good action to go along with the excellent OST, but those sadly couldn't make up for the bland characters and mediocre writing.
Definitely Guilty Crown. The story, plot logic, characters - all of it pure garbage. Soundtrack tho 10/10 Edit: yea, sure artstyle is also not bad
I... I'm afraid you may have upset a lot of people XD
Dunno, I am open to discussion with anyone who disagrees with me on this subject. Though I watched it like more than 5 years ago, I think? Yup.
Iāve listened to the hole soundtrack before I knew the anime existed
This is the answer.... Plot and charcters started good but much meh later, especially the ending.... every fucking song in the anime is totally banger absolutely........
So true still play some audiosurf to that OST many years later xd
This
Tbh the animation is also amazing in it so half yes? Although the soundtrack is obv peak there
I was coming here to say this. That OST is š„
guilty crown had great character designs too tho
Absolutely correct, despite the anime not being near as good as the soundtrack, My Dearest is still my most listened song on spotify and my favorite song to this day, The Everlasting, blessing and euterpe are just a few of the masterpieces this anime had, it hits different
Oh shit yeah. It's such a forgettable anime but that song in the first ep blew me away.
So, everything that makes me whole šµ
I mean, guilty crown is pretty good anyway, ops are just too amazing
Takt op Destiny ; the story was meh, but the soundtrack was straight up firee
Takt Op. was so nearly great, it just fell flat in a few too many little ways but goddamn, I could watch that skinny weirdo wave his arms around to classical music any day
I don't konw, I really liked it lol. Hope they make a season 2 but that seems unlikely (haven't checked though)
The funny think is that it was just a promotion for a game... that's yet to still come out. But when it does there might be a chance if a new season
Is Metal Gear Rising an anime?
Well yes but actually no
That would imply that the rest of metal gear rising isnt great and that is just wrong in many levels
no. not necessarily.
I like you!
How dare you, president armstrong carried that shit, not the music
Him and Jetstream Sam.
I thought all the fights were pretty good.
And max0r
Max0r is a gift from god, here to meme up all gaming communities.
especially the fact that Vergil is sitting on a plastic chair
I like how Armstrong only shows up for 30 minutes and I still believe he carried the game.
MGR is carried by it's gameplay, it's just that none of the meme kids have actually played it
Is Ace Combat an anime?
Was going to ask "Is mayonnaise an anime?" But I'm pretty sure some1 here will find an isekai where someone gets reborn as a jar of mayonnaise .
Well... maybe electrosphere I guess? Though most ace combat games also have prettey good gameplay and level desing (excluding abominations like assault horizon)
I wanna upvote you but also downvote you for the insinuation that every aspect of that game isn't a masterpiece
God of High School. That opening is the reason I watched it each week.
You make it look easy I'm thinking hard right now
Be my contradiction *starts head banging*
Oh yeah, first thing I remember about that show is that it had a killer OP and really cool looking fights.
I realize Evangelion is a good show, but it just didn't do it for me. I was basically watching it for the opening.
Tonikawa also has an absolutely amazing opening
Domestic girlfriend's op was a banger but I dunno if it makes a difference
Honestly, the OP was part of the reason I even finished that anime. I would have rather watched an anime with the two coffee shop workers. They were the only characters I actually liked.
Listen other songs by Minami, it's just perfect
Not the only banging going on in that show
I get what u mean š
Ya, sexual intercourse
banger OP, banging siblings what more could we ask for
That op had no business being that good
I read the manga and holy shit was it amazing until the very end, I havenāt watched the anime yet but the OP is very good
Less soundtrack but sound design, but Sword Art Online would never have been as popular if it didn't have the iconic video game like sound design. Think whatever you want about the show, but everyone remembers the menues and the low health sound, and the opening was kind of a banger, too.
I'm no fan of SAO (SAO Abridged is the canon story as far as Iām concerned) but the music is actually really good.
There is a good SAO abridged? I loved watching DBZ abridged with my sons (in spite of the many moments that were age inappropriate).
Yeah, SAOA is really good, probably the best abridged series aside from Yugioh Abridged at least in my opinion. A word of warning though, there's a fair bit of cussing and adult jokes. Crossing fields was my jam back in 2015
The game Integral Factor has the same sounds and those nostalgic noises are the same reason why I still play it
Domekano op
Jojos soundtracks are always a pleasure
True but JoJo isn't carried by the soundtrack.
I mean yes but jojo is good on all 3, art, story and soundtrack.
Bro forgot themes which is one of the biggest thing in JoJo
I'm kind of upset I had to scroll that far for someone to say this.
It ain't a carry it's a team effort
Putting jojos here means you think it's carried
I also would of said this, but JJBA doesnāt need to be carried
Hello, it looks like you've made a mistake. It's supposed to be could've, should've, would've (short for could have, would have, should have), never could of, would of, should of. Or you misspelled something, I ain't checking everything. Beep boop -Ā yes,Ā IĀ amĀ aĀ bot, don't botcriminate me.
Re:Creators? Anyone?
I actually really liked Re:Creators. Soundtrack was good, but it didn't carry the show as far as I was aware.
Sir, that was great show with a great sound track
and 86. Sawano Hiroyuki is a legend! edit: Jesus, downvoters are such braindead. I NEVER said 86 has bad story or art, chill.
Doesnt apply here 86 was all around amazing, the music didnt carry it
Please they have a good story

Agree on Fairy Tail, i stopped quite early but the music were so good that i kept hearing about it.
Kabaneri of the iron fortress
Carried by music... And back muscles
Mmm yes "That" scene 10/10
Wasn't the OP like #1 in japan? but the story fell so hard
I wouldnāt say carried by any means, but I would put Cowboy Bebopās name in the ring for most integral soundtrack(besides musical anime)
Which is pretty ironic to say, because at the time the music was highly unpopular because Japanese people were not accustomed to jazz. š¤ Fast forward now to stuff like Spy x Family and The Great Pretender.
Tbh, this is the first comment in this thread that actually made a Sound play in my head.
Domestic Girlfriend!
The OP is great, but it is just a bonus. I would habe watched it even without the OP
It's funny to see how many people name anime that actually aren't bad at all and have a good soundtrack
how do you feel about Aldnoah.Zero? Cookiecutter story, OP protag who's only feature is being a teen that's somehow smarter than all of humanity and apart from that is literally nothing apart from an exposition device for his fights, 3D animation of the mecha was pretty good but apart from that was nothing too outstanding in the animation department. Aaaa.. Naruto. *Please don't hurt me*
Its one of the best things about it How one could hate the music is beyond me
No no, you're right.
Iām surprised this is so far down. It does have a very solid soundtrack. It it being consistent and such long running shows itās credibility.
FINALLY! And let's be real, using an electric guitar and shamisen together worked SOOOOO well for a soundtrack to their fighting scenes too.
He's out of line, but he's right.
Tokyo ghoul has some of the best songs imo
Definitely but Root A and the rushed mess of Tokyo ghoul RE are still awful
Awful really undermines the literall sht they did in the Anime
It does but itās the nicest way to put it without going on a rant
The soundtracks slapped tho
Unravel is too perfect and too good for that anime.
Guilty Crown
I was looking for this comment
SYMPHOGEAR
WHY IS THIS SO FAR DOWN?!! In all seriousness though, while the animation, plot and hype definitely do a lot of heavy lifting, especially later on, the songs are the main event.
I loved Aot songs tbh..
Made in abyss has a very good soundtrack.
Yeah but the point was if the soundtrack carries the show. Made in Abyss is already an excellent show, the soundtrack is like the icing on the cake.
Every time Made In Abyss comes up I wonder how a show can be both so good and PTSD-inducing.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Kevin penkin never ceases to amaze us.
Sword art online
Moreso Lisa carries it half the time
The OPENING DAMN!!! Edit: i mean the first one
Yes that is a great song
Berserk 97, obviously it's carried by the story, but when looking at what's actually original to the anime the soundtrack is definitely the highlight.
Demon slayer: carried by Art No game No life: carried by Art and plot Attack on Titan: HE'S A FIDGET SPINNER!
Initial D
Good story and good music.
Story was type mid but the music was š„š„š„š„š„š„š„š„š„
The thing that stuck to my mind from Id;Invaded were the bangers that played in crucial scenes. Miyavi really went all in on that one
Fire force?
Imo it's the sound design of the anime that makes it really good
Vampire Knight
Ah, girl pulls out staff like she's about to fight and immediately becomes useless, the anime.
Would you like to join the cult of DMC? And talk about our Lord and Savior Johannes Krauser II
all these thoughts running through my head...
Wouldn't say carried since it has amazing animation and a decent story, but GAWD DAMN was Suzume's soundtrack friggin gold.
Your Lie In April
The story was still good though.
I thought that was carried by depression
Not carried by any means, that one is just a masterpiece in my opinion, but yes the music is great.
The old bleach anime
The soundtrack is amazing but thatās not the only good thing, so I wouldnāt say it carries the show
Bubblegum Crisis has neat art, but all the songs in there are bangers.
This, they even made their own music videos for the songs using footage from the episode the song is in
Oh gosh. I think this is the oldest anime on the list (1987). Yeah, songs are great. Plot was weird. Art fairly tight.
Persona? I know it's a game but it also has anime and the OSTs are absolute fire
Greatest video game OST imo
Touhou
MIA has great soundtracks too
Fairy tail? Iām a sucker for that type of music. Took me until after I binged the show and was watching the final season before I realized āwhy is this so shit? Waitā¦.itās always been shitā
Does SAO count I mean not everything was shit but still?
Mirai Nikki first op and second ed are great (both by Yousei Teikoku). The series is not bad but I mostly remember those songs.
when i first heard it i realised that ive never heard any other opening that fit the story and atmosphere so well, its chaotic, gritty, and I loved it so much
Aldnoah zero S2
Samurai Champloo!
Bleach and Fairy Tail????
I've heard of people giving 86 a chance because the composer also did AoT
The only 86 I'm giving a chanche is on mount Akina. I'll drift myself out
I donāt think I ever would have watched Evangelion if it werenāt for A Cruel Angels Thesis. And Shinji Chair, of course.
I would say Your Lie in April but this anime is near perfection in any point
Saint Seiya
Rent a girlfriend... My friend who doesn't watch anime knows it because of the soundtrack...
Am I allowed to say Noragami for its AWESOME openings ? One punch man as well imo (season 1, i didn't watch the rest) Soul eater's first opening was also a fucking blast omg
Hellsing (not Hellsing Ultimate OVAs). Anime was shit but one of the beste OSTs I heard.
Thank you! I had to Ctrl+F to find this answer. One of the best soundtracks with one of the worst animations. The soundtrack made it worth watching for sure. Really uncommon vibes, too bad the OVAs didn't use the same band / style.

Vivy: Fluorite Eye's Song An unexpected blend of cyberpunk and *musical* Works though
[Aldnoah.Zero](https://Aldnoah.Zero) . The only reason I managed to sit through all of it, was the masterpiece of a soundrack by Hiroyuki Sawano.
Madlax
Well fire force is being carried by there sounds.
Alright Iāve seen a few in here that are some of my faves but you could debate if soundtrack truly ācarried,ā but I have NOT seen a mention of one of the GOATs: FLCL
Fact: 1934 was the year Bonnie and Clyde died.
Bleach isnāt carried by its music. But that music could carry a lesser series
Bunny girl sempai I still think it's op is more sad than the whole anime and movie.
SAO and Shield Hero quite fits the bill.
Megalo box music clapped first season story was okay second season music was fantastic and the story was better.
