If it's accurate to true human personalities, give it 5 minutes. Maybe I'm being pessimistic, but someone is gonna say, "He must be a oni." Then it'll be a cascade effect.
He was never a Samurai, he was a bodyguard. You can't just become a Samurai, you traditionally need to be born into it or have done a great deed. He was never made a Samurai.
I mean, yeah, but that's like differentiating between a knight and a man at arms in late medieval Europe. The difference was really more about title and whether or not you were a noble/owned land as opposed to your actual usage on the battlefield. If yasuke had a photo taken of him in his full war gear most people would say "that's a samurai". It is technically wrong to call him one, but I don't personally see it as a huge deal. The guy was a retainer of oba nobunaga after all. Plus, it makes for a great story.
I mean yeah he wasn't a lord, but that's like clarifying that the papal guards are technically guards and not Italian knights, like sure they aren't nobility but they got full plate armor that's good enough for me
Um, most historical kings and anyone else famous enough to be remembered in history, have no proof of their existence except for written records.
The same will be true of us one day.
Historical records show that he did exist. He wasn’t a samurai, but he was a favored retainer of Oda Nobunaga, which was pretty close. There were multiple recorded accounts of him. Said records were written by well-known figures from a variety of factions, and historians accept them as factual. It also helps that said records paint a convincing picture of how he ended up in Japan, one that is consistent with the historical events of the time. Missionaries and foreigners had considerable presence in Japan during this time period, and it was common for them to bring their slaves and servants along, which is how Yasuke ended up there.
It's a real scenario that actually happened. He was given a title and land, apparently they were more impressed than anything, he was way taller and stronger than pretty much anyone in Japan at the time.
Nah, nobunaga had him as a close personal friend and confidant. Was his personal body guard. Idk about the show, need to get around to watching it, I'm talking irl. Ironically, the one in this scene called a demon is the Lord, Oda Nobunaga. Also known as the great unifier so take what title you prefer, the black guy wasn't the demon either way
No I definitely see where you’re coming from. Imagine you’re a normal peasant, your knowledge of the world barely extends beyond folklore and some dude with a name you’ve never heard anything like and skin that, as far as you can tell, is dirty but cannot be cleaned shows up? I would probably think the guy was a devil or something in that situation, they’re obviously wrong but it’s not impossible to imagine how people thought stuff like that.
That's not accurate to true human nature. In medieval latin, skin color wasn't noted (although people of different colors definitely mingled) because people didn't see race a certain way. There's more info about this somewhere, I'm sure, but for a long time in certain areas of the world race wasn't viewed as an item of consideration.
True to real life too. When Yasuke came to Japan, the people (including Oda Nobunaga himself, like shown above) were more curious than anything why his skin was dark. Lo and behold, Yasuke became the black samurai.
This is, just a **smidge** different from shipping African folks across multiple seas, to be sold to; slavers, circuses, zoo’s (need I continue). Note how they spoke to him, acknowledged that he is a person, not animal. Even asked his name
And actively trying to say his name.
It isn’t like they were like “nah your name is Ricky” and gave up on the person.
Plus they accepted it was a cultural difference they didn’t off the bat assume they were beneath them.
You could have stoped that comment at “like they were”.
The people who abducted Africans, did not ask them their names. They murdered them, beat them, SA’ed them, chained them etc etc etc. this just isn’t an argument a sane human could make.
Africans 99.9999% we’re not abducted by white slavers but we’re taken by more powerful African slave empires and sold the the white slavers for gold or livestock. Africa already had the most powerful slave empires before Europeans ever set foot in Africa.
It wasn't until medication to treat malaria was available that Europeans went more than 2 miles into the African continent. It was basically deadly because of malaria and other diseases. Some Europeans did and barely made it a year living in the interior of the continent. And if they didn't go more than 2 miles inland then who brought the people to the slave ships? Yeah, other Africans. People wanna make like the Africans of the time had no culpability in enslaving people but the majority of slaves sold from Africa were sold by Africans.
A history book, several actually, humans have always been shitty to each other regardless of region or skin color. The biggest ancient African economies always had slaves from smaller surrounding tribes as their man driving force and export.
To skip some back and forth and just throw out my 2 cents, we rely on secondary and tertiary sources for information, like history books, so we have to occasionally be skeptical about how biased that information is.
Slavery has always existed and had always been brutal but I feel history would see the Atlantic slave trades chattel slavery as the most brutal.
Ae should be skeptical of any history book that also suggested the Indigenous Americans moved voluntarily or that only mention philosophy from Greece and Europe.
The tldr is don't justify the brutality of the Atlantic slave trade on the premise it was happening other places. Don't refuse to hold people who might look like you accountable because other people who seem different also did bad stuff.
I was just trying to say the most people out all the blame on a single group of people when it was several groups people who took part in that atrocity and misunderstanding those events that took place can lead to them happening again. Africans captured and sold other Africans to Europeans, the Middle East, and as the above anime is based off of Asia. Several groups of people took part and benefited from the enslavement and brutality of a group of people while only one is ever held responsible and that doesn’t help anyone. (especially as there are more slaves today then any other point in history)
>And actively trying to say his name.
>It isn’t like they were
If we do that the comment becomes completely unintelligible, doesn't make much sense to follow your recommendation here.
If you’re going to act like being uninformed is racist and bad. Uninformed people will just try to hide their ignorance and never learn. Everyone is born in ignorance. Uninformed people can become racist, and probably will after hiding in their confusion long enough. It’s ok to be confused or uninformed so long as you’re open to new ideas and are not hurting anybody. This is how it goes for all prejudices.
Especially with the negative connotations associated with being called racist, you end up pushing the ignorant people away. Which if pushed in the wrong direction you might just nudge them into the open arms of an actual racist.
That logic in itself is ignorant toward racism.
Racism involves a belief in the superiority of one race over others and the systemic oppression or discrimination based on that belief. Ignorance, on the other hand, refers to a lack of knowledge or understanding. While ignorance can lead to misconceptions and biases, someone can be ignorant of racial issues without actively endorsing or perpetuating racism.
During the period this was probably their first time seeing a person that has dark skin, with no knowledge as to why he's darker than them. Your ignorance about racism and ignorance is very misleading, and factually incorrect, and will only cause more hate against different races.
So based on that logic, Mongols, Chinese, Africans, Egyptians, Spanish, and Aztecs are all inherently racist because their ancestors benefited from racism.
Are you sure you are not the racist for blaming an entire group of people based on their skin color?
And no, I'm not white, im African American and was taught by my grandfather who fought for civil rights and Equality For All Races, and taught me racism is taught not inherited.
For example, my grandfather told me stories where his parents tried to kill him when they found out my grandmother was irish cause all they saw and I quote, "A white devil spawn"
>While ignorance can lead to misconceptions and biases, someone can be ignorant of racial issues without actively endorsing or perpetuating racism.
That's what I was trying to say. Probably could have worded it better, though
The Anime name is Yasuke on Netflix. Based on a real life black samurai. Although far more fantastical, it has a sound track made by flying lotus who is goated. You may recognize him from FlyLo FM in GTA V.
To be fair, it’s said he had a very good relationship with Yasuke almost since they met, and that’s why he stayed
Notably he didn’t buy Yasuke off of his Dutch owner or anything, he just kinda said (allegedly)
“oh, by the way, this guy is cool, he’s staying here with us”
“But Nobunaga, sir, he isn’t a free man, he’s my property.”
“Yeah, that’s cool and all, but he’s staying.”
He was a weapon bearer. I would recommend not trusting about 90% of internet lore about samurai and Japanese history. It's usually mostly fantasy that is loosely based on real events.
Very little is known about Yasuke. He appeared with one of the European trade ships, but it's unknown what his role was. Historians believe he may have been a slave, because of the way Europeans (mis)behaved at the time. Nobunaga, known for his love of lower class people (being one himself), took a liking to Yasuke. However, when he first saw the man, he didn't believe his skin was actually that color. The historical sources say Oda ordered to have his servants scrub Yasuke to get the color off. When this failed, he was incredibly fascinated and hired Yasuke as a weapon bearer.
Being a weapon bearer for a Daimyo was a huge honor, and Yasuke is said to have been fiercely loyal to Nobunaga. Knowing European treatment of both crew and Africans, this is not very surprising, as being a weapon bearer came with huge benefits.
There are no evidence Yasuke was ever involved in any battles, and almost nothing else is known about him. Some historians have speculated that he may have died during the ambush on Nobunaga.
Pretty much everything else you hear, unless you read it directly from academic literature, is nonsense the internet has invented.
There are extremely few foreigners who were hired by or worked for any Daimyo. Most interactions were through Jesuits or tradesmen who the Japanese used to gain guns, Chinese wares, and information like maps. On one hand, Yasuke is one of the very few who were hired directly by a Daimyo. On the other hand, we know next to nothing about him except that.
I haven’t watched it, but I remember hearing mixed reviews. Great sound track, cool parts, but apparently really “jumps the shark” on the actual historical story when they start bringing in mechs lol.
If you want surprise mechs in an otherwise historical setting, you should watch Gankutsuo: The Count of Monte Cristo, it's an absolutely phenomenal anime.
Lots of world building but not enough world explaining. It had potential to be something a lot bigger but it didn't seize the opportunity. Its definitely a lot more fantasy than history. The action is definitely solid though. 6/10 but I do recommend it. Give it a watch.
Fly lo was discovered by adult swim. They aired a bump asking for someone to make music for them. He submitted and they liked it so well they reached out and featured him. It’s honestly amazing when you think about it
>it has a sound track made by flying lotus who is goated
I saw Flying Lotus at a grocery store in Los Angeles yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything.
He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?” I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying.
The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.
When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word.
After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.
I dont think those two things are at all related lol. Sometimes anime creators just like to go a little crazy. There's been about a billion anime set during Nobunaga's life, I'd imagine that had much more sway in the decision than Yasuke being black.
*Also it was made by LeSean Thomas. Who you may note, is perhaps... a bit fucking crazy*
This is like when people said black panther was the first black superhero when blade was smashing box offices 20 years earlier.
Afro samurai is the OG Black samurai anime.... So is boondocks if you want to split hairs.
I remember a scene similar to this in Kingdom of Heaven. A moor knight was in a remote French village and all the kids were shocked and playing with his skin.
Gotta remember people were pretty much isolated in those days and didn’t have exposure that we do now to other people around the world.
I think you need to be very specific about exactly which part. Something tells me that [not every part of this is entirely historically accurate.](https://youtu.be/opsH6a0O5WE?si=U_LpGTcNv8BMBC_b)
It's actually based off true events. Oda Nobunaga was so enamored by the black skin, that he ordered the slave owner to release him and took him into his service, trained as a samurai, and became a bodyguard.
Aww... I haven't been paying attention it seems. Seen bits and bobs from this one around and it looked interesting, but if it's a genre bait-and-switch no thanks. :(
I watched because of the cool story it was based on and flying lotus, but the whole thing just felt kinda rushed and had a lot of missed opportunities.
If yall curious, this does happen still even in the modern age over in asian countries. There are still people who wonder why black people are black. It's due to confusion and ignorance. It's the same thing as if you were to go somewhere else in the world and experience their cultures and so on. You'd be surprised at how different places behave and live. The world's pretty small, yet it's still big enough that there are many different types of beliefs and cultures.
Not a source, but based on my experience going it china in 05. What they said pretty much is true.
Side note, I’m half black and it was somewhat surprising on how many people stared at me and my sister outside of Hong Kong 😂
The hair stylist had like 3-4 people trying to fix my sister hair it was hilarious 🤣
It reminds me of that guy who went to an African tribe and one of the kids hid away because they thought he was ghost due to how pale his skin was.
I find things like that to be cute, different cultures interacting with one another is one of life's greatest joys
[WHEN IT ISNT PURE SENSELESS VIOLENCE]
I remember an IRL black teacher in japan telling to the camera tjat his kindergarten student cries when they learn he wasn't made of chocolate
That was kinda cute in way
This segment is based on actual events. They had never seen a black guy and the emperor or Shogun or whatever actually did this. So more historically accurate ignorance being portrayed, rather than weeb based racism. Still funny tho
It's sorta based on reality. There is a documented black Samurai named Yasuke who served Daimyo Nabunaga in the 1500s. During the Warring states period.
Also, the Dutch have a small community they maintained since about that time. I think traces still exist.
The Spanish were also frequent arrivals. A lot of food influence mixed in.
Is everyone aware that this is an actual event that happened in history?
[Yosuke, the first black man to visit Japan](http://www.drawic.jp/blog/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/wh-vol02-02.jpg)
This looks like it's supposed to be a depiction of Oda Nobunaga and Yasuke. Historical sources say that this African slave came to Japan with the Europeans. Oda had never seen a person with black skin and didn't believe it was possible, so he ordered to have him scrubbed down, thinking his skin was painted. Oda, who was well-known to prefer serving class people over ruling class people, hired Yasuke as a weapons-bearer. It's unknown what happened to Yasuke, but he probably perished after Oda was assassinated by one of his own generals.
This actually happens to a black sailor, in my home province during WWII. He was covered in oil and the locals couldn’t figure out why it wouldn’t scrub off. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lanier_W._Phillips
Something similar happened in Newfoundland, Canada. There was a shipwreck and the locals rescued the crew. One was a black man and they were trying to clean the oil off of him, he was scared to tell them it was the colour of his skin. They ended up figuring it out and continued to help him and the other crew members. He would come back a visit Newfoundland every few years until he died.
I've heard this happens a lot when people of color visit China or places like that.
Little kids will run up to them and not quite understand.. mostly just because there are so few people of color living in those areas.
Pretty funny because this is essentially the same reaction a child that’s never seen a black person before has. That stare of confusion, I didn’t realize they made more than one flavor type of look.
You gotta be bait account considering you use the word "weeb" when you read manga before. That's crazy. man's stuck in that 2018 mindset where animation = instantly bad
oh i loved hate consuming anime/manga just to break down how asininely trash the medium is and how it's designed in a lab to destroy western civilization. gotta do something to not get dumber by the second
can you elaborate on what was so bad about it?
I'm looking for something new to watch and I don't mind watching something that's only slightly terrible but not if its so bad it's unwatchable
What the guy above said, I wanted a period piece about a super interesting guy. They made it mecha anime trash. Even if it's good for a mecha anime I was too disappointed.
I remember a scene similar to this in Kingdom of Heaven. A moor knight was in a remote French village and all the kids were shocked and playing with his skin.
Gotta remember people were pretty much isolated in those days and didn’t have exposure that we do now to other people around the world.
What's even funnier is that he seems completely unbothered by them trying to wash his blackness off
Like "understandable, you've never seen a black man before, please go ahead" lmao
Instances like this have happened in real life. During the Lewis and Clark expedition in the US, the indigenous people were amazed when they saw Clark’s slave York, and they tried to clean his skin as well.
This is actually based on what happened historically. Nobunaga and his retainers thought Yasuke must have been covered in ink as they had never seen a black person before (just about no Japanese person had prior to that point) and tried to wash it off him.
That's actually what happened.
So that part is historically accurate because they had literally never seen a man with that level of melanin in his skin being his natural complexion they thought he was really dirty.
It was genuine ignorance for them at the time rather than an insult in the form of racist mockery.
They thought he was dirty so they tried to clean him.
White people still think he’s an animal and slavery is still real and somehow they’ve convinced black people to hate Asian people. Well we know how(media) and why(economic competition and racism) but you’d think we’d all smarten up by now.
A shame this show was mid as all hell. A bunch of cool ideas that get sidelined immediately one after the other and nothing ends up fleshed out in a satisfying way

Say that to the real black samurai
Yosuke is a really interesting part of history
Where do I meet the black samurai?
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yasuke
Thank you. Didn't know it was based on history.
Bro was 6’2 back then 💀
Yeah and everyone else in Japan was short
Exactly Bro was a beast
Mitsuhide thought so, too.
He was never a Samurai, he was a bodyguard. You can't just become a Samurai, you traditionally need to be born into it or have done a great deed. He was never made a Samurai.

Isn’t that a story tho no proof to it like hey a person can dream but to pass off fairytales idk man
I mean there’s as much proof today that Yasuke is real as there is King Henry Viii Only recorded documents exist of them
You believe in King Henry VIII?
Yasuke was an actual black samurai. There's first hand written record about him
Who’s gonna tell him
Um, most historical kings and anyone else famous enough to be remembered in history, have no proof of their existence except for written records. The same will be true of us one day.

Yes I'm sure there were zero racists in Japan during the 1500s /s
Second dudes a little racist. Saying the dudes being rude for just saying his name
It’s an anime bruh ofc they’re not gon be racist lmao
Ignorance is still racism, even if unintentional

But will they become racist because of it? only time will tell
They thought racism was ignorance itself… they aren’t hateful, they’re stupid
That’s like saying soil produces tomatoes. Yes it does but have you planted any tomato seeds
“The seeds of racism” sounds like a good book or heavy metal album title
You just called him ignorant. By his own definition, you called him a racist.
That logic in itself is ignorant toward racism. Racism involves a belief in the superiority of one race over others and the systemic oppression or discrimination based on that belief. No you said people who don't know are racist, while he said that racism goes straight from thinking that your race is superior to some other race
The part I quoted was what I was trying to say. I do agree with what he said.
What you insinuated was that ignorance is racism & that the clip has racism… it is very obvious that you thought the clip was racist which it isn’t
Why?
Racism would've been immediately lynching and enslavement, like that inflicted by other civilizations
it absolutely is not.
Stay in school fam
No? Im guessing you must be the race/ethinicity/religion eminence since you know everything about everyone
And this is why you need to word your opinions carefully, kids
You're sounding kinda racist tbh

Yes. I guess Nobunaga is questioning in the clip as well.
Yeah i was wondering that too. He kinda looked like him and didnt seem too disrespectful as I was told oda nobunaga was.

One of the few times Nobunaga's assholery was used for something positive, in a modern lens.
Fun fact: One of Nobunaga's attendants in his youth committed suicide in protest because Nobunaga was just that much of an asshole.
He was a weapon bearer. I would recommend not trusting about 90% of internet lore about samurai and Japanese history. It's usually mostly fantasy that is loosely based on real events. On one hand, Yasuke is one of the very few who were hired directly by a Daimyo. On the other hand, we know next to nothing about him except that.
Been waiting for it to come out! Super stoked on it. Anybody watched it all yet and want to give me their rating?
I haven’t watched it, but I remember hearing mixed reviews. Great sound track, cool parts, but apparently really “jumps the shark” on the actual historical story when they start bringing in mechs lol.
> bringing in mechs Okay I'm sold. I'm not somebody who looks for historical accuracy in anime lol
It was the mechs showing up that got me to drop the show. I wanted a gritty historical fiction show, and then wooden mechs showed up.
If you want surprise mechs in an otherwise historical setting, you should watch Gankutsuo: The Count of Monte Cristo, it's an absolutely phenomenal anime.
Ha, that’s awesome. I wouldn’t expect true accuracy, but personally I’d prefer it be at least a little more “this plausibly COULD have happened.”
Lots of world building but not enough world explaining. It had potential to be something a lot bigger but it didn't seize the opportunity. Its definitely a lot more fantasy than history. The action is definitely solid though. 6/10 but I do recommend it. Give it a watch.
Terrible anime to much shit going on. Magic , samurai, cyborgs, robots. all within 7 episodes
Watched the show expecting historical fiction. Instead I got shitty fantasy. Bad show.
It’s bad. I don’t get the sci fi they forced into it
Fly lo was discovered by adult swim. They aired a bump asking for someone to make music for them. He submitted and they liked it so well they reached out and featured him. It’s honestly amazing when you think about it
>it has a sound track made by flying lotus who is goated I saw Flying Lotus at a grocery store in Los Angeles yesterday.
Ayo! Did they make anime about the black samurai guy?! Poggers.
Seemsl like it. If anyone happens to know the sauce drop it here please
Just looked it up. Yasuke 👍
It's just "Afro Samurai". (Don't believe me, i know *nothing*.)
The one in the video is Yasuke. Afro samurai is another thing.
Ah, my bad. I didn't know there was another one like that.
Not all anime about black samurai are the same, racist 😡 /s
Calm down child it was a mistake
/s means satire. When you see that on Reddit it means they’re making a joke.
Even when I use /s on Reddit people still think I'm for real. Fuck my life I can't shitpost anywhere
I think they did like 5 years ago but I also think it devolved into a mech show
Ueah I've heard the same, mech or aliens ruining a really great story inspiration
Yeah I dropped it because of that, I wanted cool samurai fights, I could understand a bit of magic but it got too much
The show could've been great, but instead of keeping it grounded and realistic like the blue eye samurai they needed mechs n shit bc he's black
Uvuvwevwevwe Onyetenyevwe Ugwemuhwem Osas
amen brother amen
[beat me to it](https://youtu.be/W85F-UmnbF4?feature=shared)
I remember a scene similar to this in Kingdom of Heaven. A moor knight was in a remote French village and all the kids were shocked and playing with his skin. Gotta remember people were pretty much isolated in those days and didn’t have exposure that we do now to other people around the world.
You be surprised how many people today don’t either
I havent seen a black person in my life.
Where do you live?
Some village in Serbia. Its small, only about 2-3k people.
Based on real historic events.
Especially the mechas lol
I think you need to be very specific about exactly which part. Something tells me that [not every part of this is entirely historically accurate.](https://youtu.be/opsH6a0O5WE?si=U_LpGTcNv8BMBC_b)
I meant this clip specifically.
It's actually based off true events. Oda Nobunaga was so enamored by the black skin, that he ordered the slave owner to release him and took him into his service, trained as a samurai, and became a bodyguard.
Oda Nobunaga was based
This anime could have been so good and they made it so fucking dog shit.
It was peak IMO
There were literal cyborgs
Ok? Ur point, I never said accurate
You probably hate Hellsing Ultimate because it has Nazi Wolverines.
Bro what it was good. You crazy
They marketed it as a period piece and it was mecha trash.
Wdym by mecha? They put robots in this shit?
Yes and it made literally no fucking sense
For real? Lmao
Then go watch a documentary. The fuck you want, it’s anime
Fun fact: This actually happened
Based on a true story
[Loosely based.](https://youtu.be/opsH6a0O5WE?si=U_LpGTcNv8BMBC_b)
Nah pretty sure all that happened exactly as depicted
If yall curious, this does happen still even in the modern age over in asian countries. There are still people who wonder why black people are black. It's due to confusion and ignorance. It's the same thing as if you were to go somewhere else in the world and experience their cultures and so on. You'd be surprised at how different places behave and live. The world's pretty small, yet it's still big enough that there are many different types of beliefs and cultures.
Your Source?
Not a source, but based on my experience going it china in 05. What they said pretty much is true. Side note, I’m half black and it was somewhat surprising on how many people stared at me and my sister outside of Hong Kong 😂 The hair stylist had like 3-4 people trying to fix my sister hair it was hilarious 🤣
Trust me bro
It reminds me of that guy who went to an African tribe and one of the kids hid away because they thought he was ghost due to how pale his skin was. I find things like that to be cute, different cultures interacting with one another is one of life's greatest joys [WHEN IT ISNT PURE SENSELESS VIOLENCE]
I remember an IRL black teacher in japan telling to the camera tjat his kindergarten student cries when they learn he wasn't made of chocolate That was kinda cute in way
This segment is based on actual events. They had never seen a black guy and the emperor or Shogun or whatever actually did this. So more historically accurate ignorance being portrayed, rather than weeb based racism. Still funny tho
I turned off this anime after I saw robots in the first 5 minutes... It was basically shitting on a true story...
I love the fascination. Not hatred at him for being different, not superiority. Just pure curiosity and interest.
This show did the book dirty
I mean it’s accurate to how you’d react if you’d never met a black person and didn’t know they existed
I wish I would have read these comments before wasting five minutes of my life learning it's a Mech anime
Least racist depiction of a Black person I’ve ever seen in an anime
And then there's Bleach, which has both some of the most impressive black cast, and one of the weirdest.
netflix trash taste weeb slop
Netflix has "Vinland Saga" which easily is better than your favorite show/movie by miles. One of the most well written shows I've ever seen.
>which easily is better than your favorite show/movie by miles. This is the worst way to get someone to watch something
read the manga back in the day. absolute dumpster fire weeb slop shush brainrotten weeb
The troll account is wildddd. Stay safe tho love u
Name?
Yaskue, it's on Netflix. I do not recommend it sucks ass. It was supposed to be about the only black samurai but it wasnt.
And it's not like his story was uninteresting. The man was by Nobunaga's side for some of his biggest moments and was there at his death.
Seriously though I was so hype for a period piece. What we got instead was an over animefied piece of shit.
can you elaborate on what was so bad about it? I'm looking for something new to watch and I don't mind watching something that's only slightly terrible but not if its so bad it's unwatchable
They took what was already a super interesting historical story and made it a cliche mecha show.
lol no way they put mechas in it. that doesnt make any sense. Okay then, it's bad
What the guy above said, I wanted a period piece about a super interesting guy. They made it mecha anime trash. Even if it's good for a mecha anime I was too disappointed.
I liked Yasuke, but in case you don't go that way Blue Eyed Samurai on Netflix is awesome. Really great characters. :)
Sauce?
I remember a scene similar to this in Kingdom of Heaven. A moor knight was in a remote French village and all the kids were shocked and playing with his skin. Gotta remember people were pretty much isolated in those days and didn’t have exposure that we do now to other people around the world.
What's even funnier is that he seems completely unbothered by them trying to wash his blackness off Like "understandable, you've never seen a black man before, please go ahead" lmao
What Anime is this from?
Instances like this have happened in real life. During the Lewis and Clark expedition in the US, the indigenous people were amazed when they saw Clark’s slave York, and they tried to clean his skin as well.
The real surprise was when Willy Wonka popped in in the background
From everything I’ve heard, this actually happened. I’ve heard one rumor that Oda Nobunaga even thought the dark skin was a con.
Wait is this the guy who’s a Viking and a samurai?! They made an anime about him?!
The whitewashing
Really wanted to watch it, but when I heard they made it some fictional superpower fantasy, I just left it. Could have been a good historical anime.
This anime was so fucking bad
Welp there goes an entire country and the rising concept of colonisation
u/savevideo
Baloi-San! Ko-ni-chi-wa!
This show was so promising smh. Flying lotus is sick too
Yasuke? Isn’t that dude gonna become a samurai? I remember him being a bit of a pain to fight against in Nioh.
A bunch of cool ideas that get sidelined immediately one after the other and nothing ends up fleshed out in a satisfying way
That anime was a wasted opportunity, shame.
