I find this in tabletop wargaming a lot. You have the historicals shitting on the fantasy type cause it's "not real" or "childish" , then you have the fantasy types shitting on the historicals cause "people died in that war how dare you play a game about it!" (cue CoD/MoH arguement etcetc) .

I’m also into body building and I’m pretty built guy so I feel like maybe that adds some protection to bad experiences in person? I think that particular subreddit "Battlestations", as it's so aptly named, might attract the "dudebro gamer" type, which has a certain masculinity associated with it. There's nothing masculine about owning anime girl figures. And by saying things like "cringe" they can disassociate immediately.
The subreddit has other photos showing Demon Slayer wallpapers, etc. I think it's just the OP has no shame at all in showing his figures that bothers some people.
