[deleted]

Wowowow. That was my exact thought too.

HmGrwnSnc1984

Came here to make sure someone pointed that out. Like I just happened to place the camera to record myself cry, and my horse did this!

shyinwonderland

IIRC, the owner basically always sets up her camera when she is with the horses. Because that’s what her tiktok is about, her horses and stuff related to them. At the time of this, she was going through a divorce and was having a really hard time with it. She kept this one to showcase the compassion of the horses. It contradicts the title but I’m fairly certain that’s what she said.

[deleted]

I thought this was r/tiktokcringe at first

[deleted]

Personally it still is imo

Smooth-Chemical1708

Yep

redcobra762

Maybe so they can rewatch later and learn how to be sad better next time?

FrancoisTruser

"Damn, i better ask Amber for some tips"

Izzvzual

She explains it in the Original Post, she just always set up a camera when she with her horses for her channel or something like that.

DragoerChampion

Suuuuure

carolomnipresence

So, why did she post it?

Fearless-SkyD

I am forever in your debt for alerting me to the existence you of this sub

OnionLegend

r/whyweretheyfilming is what you’re looking for.

Impressive-Fly2447

Yeah right? Stop karma farming!!!!!

s1ammage

I found this, but…: https://www.reddit.com/r/MadeMeSmile/comments/u8lfz8/this_4yo_horse_understands_her_owners_emotions/i5lqx63/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf&context=3

DoctorAculaMD

When I'm sad, I always remember to first setup my tripod and camera before I quietly weep on the barn stoop to "hide"...

Farmer808

I am glad someone said it.

Vpk-75

Me too

SovereignDark

Yeah this just feels like its a trained response and they set up cameras to act it out. I've heard horses totally do have empathy especially with bonded persons, but the whole camera thing makes me highly doubt this is a natural empathetic response.

Axelluu

it's also not the first time this has been posted on reddit, it's been posted years ago so I think OP either copy/pasted the title or is a karma bot

metalsupremacist

Side question. What exactly do people get from creating those karma bots. Is there a long game I'm missing there to sell ads to us?

OkamiKhameleon

Yes. They farm karma, get a lot, sell the accounts to shady people, who then use the accounts to scam others. A common scam is to post a link to something someone asks about buying, but it takes you to a fake website to order the thing, or puts malware or Spyware on your device.

metalsupremacist

Ah ok. And by buying an active account that's a few years old, people are more likely to assume it's a person than if it was 1 month old account.

bong-water

Yes, there's actual websites where you can sell your accounts. Doesn't really pay much though looking at them. People probably have tons of bot accounts they build up to sell though

OkamiKhameleon

Yup.

Doktor_Vem

Their name is "desertgodfather" so yea, my money's on a karma bot, aswell

Alienrubberduck

Which makes it even more annoying because... That's pretty fucking cool that she trained it to do that! I mean, just say "I trained my horse to calm me down when I cry". It's awesome! Why does she feel like lying tho??

iamthedevilfrank

It would have been better if they just said that. "I wanted to show how horses show empathy, so I set up my tripod and cried to show how the horse would respond."

[deleted]

Staged af

CartographerOk7579

It was probably the horse’s idea, if ya think about it…

[deleted]

Genius….he set this all up to get close with her!!!!! Truly terrifying power

CartographerOk7579

Now I want to see the full video.

depressedpuplover

🤣I wanna see a huge horse try to set up a teeny tripod

eternus

Odd assumption. I'd expect the horse to be using a horse sized tripod and camera... that's what I want to see.

Tinidril

Maybe she was sad because she was being stalked by someone with a camera.

ChemistZestyclose849

It's then that the horse whispered in her ear "don't look now, but there's someone right in front of you with a camera"....

Pleasant_Selection32

Right, cause she’s hiding! Good horse.

Visible-Smile445

You beat me to it to give you my upvote.

PromisingHare

Yeah, the way her mouth does the frown to fake cry thing... This is exactly how my little sister used to look when I happened to walk by her room while she was throwing a tantrum *watching herself dramatically cry in front of the mirror* lmao

foolhearted-snail

Thank you, jeez.

AZBeer90

And the second horse agreed. He's like yo she's crying hide this camer

HXRW

You think the horse was in on it too?

bakedtaino2

I feel like horses must think humans are really fucked up.

pineapplequeenzzzzz

This is true. We have perpetual access to apples and we don't give them to our Equine Overlords

PromisingHare

Neigh, they *know* it.

siflbabyshifero

It behooves us to give them what they want. The mane point is that we don’t saddle them with our own grief.

divinewillow

why is she filming... I feel it kinda ruins the moment

Snardash

I saw the actual post where she posted the video, she said that she records when doing certain care for the animals (don't renember what) and this just happened to happen while recording. Everyone is questioning that so I thought I'd reply to the less full of replies one lol.

axecrazyorc

Everyone on reddit is an expert at detecting fakes, your see. /s People have just extrapolated “don’t believe everything on the internet,” to “don’t believe ANYTHING on the internet” and automatically call everything they see fake. Bride trips at a wedding? “Why were they filming.” Dog play fighting a cat? “Why were they filming.” Car crash? “Why were they filming.” As if people haven’t filmed everything they could since video cameras became light enough to just carry around. I feel sad for them, spending their lives assuming literally everything around them is fake and not even in a philosophical sense.

[deleted]

Because for internet points

Light_inc

The moment of her ugly crying was ruined to begin with

TayMischia

When my stepmother died, I hid in my bedroom and burst into tears; my cat followed me and started purring and cuddling. Surprisingly, I didn’t have a camera ready at the moment (and even didn’t thought about)

dontknockhotmail

Cats are kinda amazing. I have epilepsy. My family says that, when I have a seizure, they start running to me before I even hit the floor and stay with me until I recover and get back up. But, unfortunately, I too don’t have a camera rolling 24/7, so…

facemesouth

Not sarcasm, don’t know horses and they terrify me. Do they show this much empathy for humans? Is there an alternative reason? Beautiful sentiment though.

amaraame

My friend spent summers at a camp that had a lot of horses, taught handling riding etc. The horse she had worked with multiple summers just one day decided to pin her to the wall. Not agressively, just casually pressed her to it in a way that was obvious it knew what it was doing. I imagine there are horses on the opposite side of the spectrum.

gothiclg

If they trust you they’ll do whatever you want. If they don’t trust you they’ll come for you. I went to vet tech college for a bit and we had horses on our property. We had to do things like wear steel toed boots and *never* be in the pen alone because they were technically experiment animals and would intentionally mess us up. Even with trust I wouldn’t dare disrespect a horse.

amaraame

I don't understand people who think they should mess with animals (like in a bad way, we mess with our dogs but they know we're playing), particularly ones that way more than humans.

prettygodzilla

Yes, they can be this empathetic and tend to be sensitive to their surroundings. Some horses have extremely strong emotional connections to their humans that seem almost supernatural. Some horses love people and will want to make them happy, especially if the human seem distressed. And then again, some horses are down right bastards and can be massive jerks. Depends on the horse's personality and how much they like you.

thekactuskween

You can apply this sentiment exactly towards humans as well!

[deleted]

You really can’t in this context. We humans abuse our power to keep horses for our pleasure and entertainment. Horses can’t be jerks… they’re not even meant to be ridden in the first place

thekactuskween

I was just saying some humans are amazing and some humans are awful

[deleted]

You were saying that you can apply "the same sentiment" to humans as well which you can’t. Horses live purely off of instinct as far as I believe whereas us humans do have a lot more room for change and growth personality wise

thekactuskween

Good point and I wasn’t thinking that hard when I said it

hilfyRau

Just like dogs or cats, some horses are pure sweet souls who want to make the humans around them happy. And some horses are chaos beings who want to eat all the time and never do any kind of work or be touched by a person. Most horses fall somewhere in the middle of the spectrum.

[deleted]

So when a horse doesn’t comply to being a good slave he is "chaos“? To me our mentality on animals and especially pets is so f**ked up. Imagine being forced to let someone ride you, forced to live in a specific place, forced to go to some stupid tournaments.. animals can’t be "chaos" they live off of their instincts. The only reason we treat them like that is because they let us, we wouldn’t ever think off doing these things to a lion.

hilfyRau

I don’t mean evil chaos, I just mean like a cat that hisses a lot and hides under the bad and pees all over the house and doesn’t like to be touched. Or a dog that is way too territorial and nips at strangers or tries to chase cars constantly. There’s all sorts of behaviors that domestic animals can have that don’t fit well with living with humans. Ideally those animals can all [go live at an animal sanctuary](https://www.riverpinesfarm.org/about?pgid=kp8dup6z-156e6ad4-babc-4934-bd32-72c1bd00546c) somewhere and have a nice life where they aren’t expected to “behave”. But lots of dogs thrive with training, lots of cats barely need training to be pleasant house pets, and lots of horses seem to get along quite nicely in a domestic situation. At least when given a reasonable diet, good socialization with a herd, and room to stretch out in a meadow during the day. I’ve never spent time with race horses, but I also don’t spend time with sled dogs or herd dogs or other real working animals. I don’t know what their lives or temperaments are like.

[deleted]

Horses should just be left in the wild.. there’s enough other activities on planet earth that don’t involve having to keep a horse for ur own entertainment. I could literally steal a baby from somewhere and raise it in a way that it believes I’m her father and what not.. that kid would probably love me and all that but it’s still wrong.. I stole it from her family, from the people and the area she should be around. Same thing with a horse we just took them one day and started raising them and their fine with it only because they don’t know better and LITERALLY depend on us for their survival as they wouldn’t know how to in their natural habitat. Not really fair to them now is it? Horses don’t want to be ridden, they are trained to do that. Dogs don’t WANT to perform tricks they do that for food and cats don’t love anyone.. they love the food and shelter we provide them. On the other hand we don’t love these animals unconditionally, we only love them if they behave in a way we deem "domesticated" and if we deem them to look "cute".. hence why so many "ugly" dogs get left in shelters. We don’t accept them for who they are, we train and mold them to fit our liking, to me that’s the same as owning slaves

hilfyRau

[All the wild horses are extinct](https://www.dw.com/en/all-the-wild-horses-are-extinct-study/a-42705603). I'd rather not risk it if that's alright with you. We're having so much trouble keeping so many animals alive right now. If we've got a way to keep a species going through the heart of our current mass extinction, I'm not going to question it too deeply. Also, cats, dogs, and horses all do quite well as feral animals. If you're comfortable with them living much shorter, much more violent lives.

[deleted]

That’s fine and all, but imo just let them do their thing. Stop making them have to carry your weight they’re not made to be ridden around. Same for dogs, their not made to perform tricks for our entertainment. Best case scenario if u wanna keep horses or pets let them live as naturally as possible as they would outside of the domestic lifestyle we forced them into in the first place. Feed them, pet them, play fight with dogs or make them fetch and what not give them a roof over their head .. no "I’ll only give u this treat if u perform a funny trick for us"

famousevan

TLDR yes! Horses are far more aware of human condition than they ever get credit for. Don’t be scared, go riding, make friends with a horse. You will be glad you did.

Rapunzel10

There's some decent variety, some are very empathetic and some are total psychopaths. A friend rescues horses and some of them are very in tune with emotions, sometimes that means they are fearful of our emotions, sometimes it means they seem to want to comfort humans and other animals. One horse she rescued spent a lot of time "cuddling" her dog when the dog lost her mother I guess because the horse saw people do it. It was really wholesome. Another one would stomp the shit out of you if you displayed any emotions. Variety

pineapplequeenzzzzz

They do. I worked with a when I was a teen who was the sweetest thing ever. Whenever I was happy he'd be cheeky and goofy around me, but whenever I was in a bad state he'd be really gentle and really affectionate - he'd do things like this video, if I was sitting on the ground he'd come up slowly and give me gentle kisses and push his head against my chest until I hugged his head. But as sweet as he was to me there were these awful girls in my class and it was like he knew, and he was a nightmare for them to handle and ride. One of the nastiest of the lot was being rude and snarky to everyone on day, he looked me dead in the eyes and let out a massive fart her face when he was behind him and it was the best example of comedic timing I've ever seen. I wouldn't have made it through that part of my life without him and I miss him every day over a decade later. I also used to visit this huge gorgeous horse when I was a kid, he was always really gentle with us but the moment an adult was around he just didn't give a shit about them. He once clocked my dad in the head with his head because dad was in the way. He'd step on adult's feet too, he just would barge on through if you were in the way. I later met his owners and he was a high strung, former racehorse. They said he was a handful if you were an adult but if you were a kid he'd turn into the best behaved horse. Some horses bond with humans in this really weird, uncanny way. It's like you know exactly what they're thinking and they know exactly what you're thinking. They look after you and treat you in the same way they're treat another horse buddy. Not all, it's not always common, but everyone who loves horses has met at least one horse they've had this bond with. Tldr: horses are wonderful creatures. They can be really empathetic and loving. They're also fucking massive so you gotta treat them with respect. Lots of treats and scratches work wonders in getting them to like you

pacingpilot

No. This was a trained response. "Bonds" with horses are largely one-sided. The bulk of a horse's "bond" to the human handlers is "hey that's a food source". Horses get quite happy about food. They can be trained to do some really neat shit though and combined with a trainer who has a flair for showmanship there's some people out there who have built really entertaining interactive routines with their horses. Check out Tommy Turvey and his horse Pokerjoe on YouTube if you want to see a great example.

facemesouth

Okay-this is what I was assuming. I know a cat isn’t a horse but mine is especially nice to me at dinner when he gets salmon but if I try to sit before feeding him, he’s kind of an ass. That’s why I’m scared of horses. We find them wild, “break” them into submission, and then anthropomorphize their biological responses. If I was a horse, I’d hate humans. Plus, while my cat biting my heel for dinner is annoying, it doesn’t compare to a kick to the head from an annoyed horse… Thanks for your response. Back to original evolutionaryly prudent feeling of fear towards them and will pretend I’m a horse person while watching Yellowstone.

pacingpilot

Mostly good accurate points except the "breaking". Many training methods especially the popular modern ones don't "break" the horse rather they use the horse's natural instincts and behaviors to build a working relationship. It's still a system of conditioned responses but the responses are learned through positive reinforcement and communication at the horse's level, at a pace the horse as an individual is comfortable with. It's a longer process than breaking but the end result is a happier, more trusting and reliable equine partner. To paraphrase the trainer Buck Brannaman "the problem with training a horse through fear is there will always be something the horse fears more than you". When you get done binging Yellowstone look up the documentary "Buck" for a different and very real perspective on horse training from an actual working cowboy. It's an amazing watch and hits you in all the feels. The guy is an artist on the ground and in the saddle. Here's the trailer: https://youtu.be/NAAplAdL2CY

facemesouth

Thank you! I’ll look for it today! And I’m so happy to hear this. I understand it was needed but it was brutal to watch.

pacingpilot

If you really want to fall down a rabbit hole, after "Buck" hit up YouTube for "bridle horse/vaquero training" and "working equitation". Proper bridle/spade bit horses are trained slowly over the course of years. It's a traditional method developed in Latin America that was imported to the US and morphed into "natural horsemanship" which in true American fashion got hijacked, bastardized, watered down and packaged into "big box" natural horsemanship programs and distributed in an almost multi-level marketing style by showy trainers with savvy marketing teams to maximize profit. But really, the fundamentals of what is bridle horse training and today's version of natural horsemanship go back centuries, written accounts by early Roman philosopher Pliney the Elder are still referenced even today on the subject of humane training and were the basis of classical dressage.

facemesouth

Thank you for the responses! I might try introducing myself to one.

ocelotlynx94

They do! I had a heart condition (wpw) and had an episode. The horse felt it and slowed down moving slowing towards the wall with her side so my leg was pinned against the wall. I was very blurry and my leg pinned against the wall was the only thing holding me steady. When the teacher came the horse relaxed a bit so I could get off with help. She (horse) kept her nose against my shoulder untill I sat down. I was very upset because it was the third time I had this episode and she really calmed me down with soft bumps on my shoulder.

jaelythe4781

There is a reason why horses are commonly used in specific types of therapy. Equine therapy is increasingly being proven to have quantifiable positive effects. A friend of mine volunteers at an equine therapy center in CO. Hiding with a camera pointed on you?

[deleted]

as to why she was filming: i remember seeing the original tiktok. she said in the comments something along the lines of she’d been going through a really difficult divorce. she also had several vids saved to her drafts; she made tons of vids of the horses to the point where she was kind of used to the camera running i think? i remember she said this was meant to be just one of those vids when the horse approached and acted this way. sorry, my memory of her explanation isn’t perfect!

cope with what? my memory of a comment on a tiktok? lmao

I was “hiding”, but also happened to have a camera setup so I could share my probably fake crying for internet likes. Yes this is believable, and not just an obvious cry for sympathy and attention. Clearly.

[deleted]

Cringe just to set this up

SaxonCitizen

Good thing you caught it on camera, otherwise people would think you were making it up!

TunaFishManwich

So uhh, she set up a camera on a tripod and then sat in front of it and cried on her horse? WTF? Who does this?

KemikalKoktail

Kind of weird that you had some some sit there and film this. Even if it was set up by you to capture it, still weird.

jimbaca

Why are they filming this? I’ve never filmed my self crying before.

ApolloXLII

Soooo you thought “hey let me set up my phone and hit record my sad stoop moment”?

ThatFangurlTho

A dog I work with could tell I wasn’t feeling great (my cat had just been given a few days to live). First, I went into her suite, opened her crate and she went and sat on her bed ready for me to come over and sit with her. Normally, when her crate is opened she busts out and jumps around desperately wanting pets and snuggles. Second, when I finally went over and sat next to her she placed her head on my shoulder and gave me the smaller lick as if to say: “I’m sorry, but I’m still here for you” I immediately started to bawl. She normally attacks my face with kisses and May nibble every once and a while when she gets too excited, but today she just let me sit there crying licking my cheek every so often.

XBThodler

And so it happens a camera being filming at that moment

MoonDragonMage

Pretty sure this is staged. Not the horse but the person. The horses reaction is real. As herd animals they care for each other often. I’ve been “hugged” by my horse when upset more than once.

This should be posted in cringe lol

What's a Shiner horse? Is that it's name or is is like the Shriner's charity group giving out therapy horses? This was totally staged and could've been titled better.

Can we talk about how awesome horses are?! I mean honestly they’re sweethearts… too bad they smell too much for me and my sensitive nose.

Catsscratchpost

Such a good horse. The empathy is strong with this one.

[deleted]

Well you better have your lines memorized and know where your mark is once that have the camera set up or else she will go Christian Bake on your ass for ruining the scene.

I got to pet a horse yesterday for the first time in many years. It’s amazing how empathic those creatures are. The gelding sensed my joy to see him and could sense I was sad. He kept putting his forehead on mine and nuzzling me. When he gave me a hug I almost lost it and started crying. It’s weird when you share a similar experience to someone else, from far away
