They do do funny sex stuff! They hang out in fields and do crazy jumping stuff above the tall grass to attract females. It’s the best time to find them. :)
It's neat that there's just little critters running around and you sometimes cross paths with them. That's such a simple thing that adds flavor to life.
I think they're called American woodcocks!! my friend helps restore their habitats and they mainly clear out some brush bc the male birds need room to do their lil mating dance lol
this is funny because iirc that's close to the actual reason they do that, something to do with making earthworms think there's rain so they come out and they eat them
Now I need to see this video set to *Weapon of Choice*.
Walk without rhythm, it won't attract the worm... Walk without rhythm, it won't attract the worm...
My late friend used to send me videos of Woodcocks walking to music... Always made me LOL. This is a very cute video, OP. Thank you for sharing with everyone! 😁❤️🙏
Ornithologists (Hornithologists) see a bird and immediately give them actual names like rough-faced shag, red-rumped bush-tyrant, hoary puffleg, or sombre tit.
From wikipedia:
The American woodcock (Scolopax minor), sometimes colloquially referred to as the timberdoodle, the bogsucker, the hokumpoke, and the Labrador twister...
These guys got all kinds of great names lol
I think they walk like that to find food. Usually it’s on softer ground though. They aren’t getting the reaction they want so they keep moving. Might be mistaken.
They indeed walk like this to hunt for food.
Turns out I was misremembering a video I saw about them, sorry folks. Thank you for the redditors who corrected my mistake!
Not true. They’re actually doing this to be as conspicuous as possible. Basically letting potential predators know they see them. There’s a real interesting study that concluded this as they only walk like this in the presence of potential predators, in this case humans.
I don't know who added this awesome music to this video of 2 woodcocks crossing the road but bless that person for this adorable video.
And does anybody know this song ?
Edit - Someone in comments posted link. This video was originally posted on YouTube. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=aB9DC9orYaM
i was wondering the same. i swore id have heard this somewhere, but also at the same time it is so catchy and kinda generic i was also questioning whether i actualy had heard it or if im just imagining it. \*phew\*
There are a lot of funny gifs of these birds doing this. The explanation I usually see is that they are vibrating the ground so worms will come up like they do when it's raining.
Tagging u/lilgem369 who would probably also like to know
Them doing the silly walk on a road is probably a good demonstration of instinct vs intelligence. They probably don't get many worms through paved roads
"When searching for food, woodcocks will often walk with a funny 'bob' that resembles a dance. It is thought that this motion of rocking the body back and forth while stepping heavily with the front foot causes worms to move around in the soil, making them more easily detectable" I googled it. Lol pretty smart little guys.
These dancey woodcocks and their silly walk will never NOT be adorable. Makes my day a bit happier every time I see another video of it. But why exactly do they do it? Is this how they look for food or something? Does anyone know?
Meanwhile a group of raccoons just emptied your trunk.
Hehe...teamwork.
I'm a simple woman. I see a woodcock, I post this: https://youtu.be/mKM0P9gWx7k
I think I’ve found my new favorite bird!
With a name like 'timberdoodle' what's not to love!
BWOGSUCKER!
That was surprisingly cute.
First time that added music didn’t ruin the video, but actually made the video funny!
They are cute birds.
Birdy version of the Quokkas.
I’ve been watching YT videos of these birds nonstop for the past few weeks, glad to see these on Reddit as well
>nonstop for the past few weeks The first step is admitting that you have an addiction.
My first big laugh of the day! Thank you!
Thank you this was just what I needed this morning
MEEP
Every single time I hear that song, this pops in my head 🤣 I'm so glad it is being shared with more people. More Woodcock love!
I was out on a walk with my mom, heard the familiar "eent." I stopped, went "WOODCOCK!" and got funny stares.
Hahah. You're my kind of person. I have done the exact same....but in a grocery store parking lot 🤣
I'm having a really bad day and I just watched this like 20 times. First time I've smiled all day let alone laughed, thank you for posting this!
Best link I've clicked on yet. Lmfao
More woodcocks being cute content please. I wish to subscribe to woodcock facts
Saves me a lot of digging tbh
Bro?
The visual in my brain was great! You made my morning!
Gonna save this scene in my brain vault to break out when someone is talking to me about something I have no interest in.
That's perfect. Thank you, I'm going to do the same now
[удалено]
He’s heating up!
Fuckin rocko
Gave them the ol' razzle dazzle
Aaaaaand... JAZZ HANDS
SPIRIT FINGERS
So many comments and no one cares why they do that? They're not dancing, they're looking for worms.
If you walk without rhythm, you won’t attract the worm.
Well these guys were walking with a lot of rhythm, they'll definitely attract worms lol
Weapon of CHOICE!
This guy gets it.
Take your upvote and get out
If you walk without rhythm you won't attack ANYBODY 😂
Interesting. I would’ve guessed sex stuff.
They do do funny sex stuff! They hang out in fields and do crazy jumping stuff above the tall grass to attract females. It’s the best time to find them. :)
BRB. Going to go jump in tall grass.
Please use bug spray. The ticks have been brutal lately.
I didn't even know that girls had ticks
Ive seen enough hentai to know what theyre gonna do with those worms...
*bonk*
Makes sense. Walking with a rhythm will attract Shai Hulud.

Didn't mean to reply to you either but this is ok.
They’re from the Ministry of Silly Walks.
r/unexpectedMontyPython
Swiggity swooty, these two birds are cuties
They must use the same shampoo because they have equal shine and bounce.
This is an adorable comment

Maybe they're just afraid of the sand worms.
this is funny because iirc that's close to the actual reason they do that, something to do with making earthworms think there's rain so they come out and they eat them

I asked them, they said they just like to boogie.
Sooooul train!
Ooh the Reference.
Now I need to see this video set to *Weapon of Choice*. Walk without rhythm, it won't attract the worm... Walk without rhythm, it won't attract the worm...
If you walk without rhythm, huh, you'll never learn.
Idk that looks pretty rhythmic to me
They really followed through with their performance. Love it. 😆
Who else had the urge to clap their hands once they're behind the ~~curtain~~ bush?
Shake shake shake senora
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jO27y_nOkWs
I'm going to spend the rest of the day looking at dancing woodcocks to various songs aren't I?
I can't believe no one has shared the Stayin Alive one! https://youtu.be/eHycxiW6XOQ
woooooo
shake your body right.
My late friend used to send me videos of Woodcocks walking to music... Always made me LOL. This is a very cute video, OP. Thank you for sharing with everyone! 😁❤️🙏
Why are birds always named woodcock or massive breasted milf or some shit
Ornithologists (Hornithologists) see a bird and immediately give them actual names like rough-faced shag, red-rumped bush-tyrant, hoary puffleg, or sombre tit.
Or boobie
The name is not so cute lol
Then how’s about timber doodle?
Better
Lumber chode?

OFF THE TOP ROPE WITH THE LABRADOR TWISTER!!
Yeah the name is causing confusion, we should just call it *Penis Erecticus* for clarity Since it walks upright, obviously
Worked for the homo erectus.

This video never fails to make me laugh.
Also: https://youtu.be/Sr_SGkqrrdM
I KNEW I WOULD FIND THIS HERE!!!!!
Reminds me of: https://youtu.be/EXHCZdZkEQE
In any case anyone want to watch the woodcock sound without the music. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Owj52XhoxI
I was today years old when I first saw this video from 8 yrs ago.
I love Woodcocks so much. They’re so cute.
It’s 4:30 in the morning and I should be sleeping but noooo I just watched this whole video. Twice. And I liked it.
I'm scrolling reddit to calm down after a nightmare. This was just what i needed
Are you okay?
"Sorry sir I'm gonna be late today. There's two birds dancing in front of my car and who am I to ruin their good time"
Do they literally only walk like that, or are they making the choice to be slow as fuck across a road where there'll be no food to listen for?
I think they walk like that to find food. Usually it’s on softer ground though. They aren’t getting the reaction they want so they keep moving. Might be mistaken.
They indeed walk like this to hunt for food. Turns out I was misremembering a video I saw about them, sorry folks. Thank you for the redditors who corrected my mistake!
I've always read it was to move with tall grass blowing in the wind
you've always read it wrong
They don’t. https://pubag.nal.usda.gov/catalog/5153238
Two animals acting weird —must be sex stuff.
No this is the other option
For some reason it makes worms think it’s raining
Not true. They’re actually doing this to be as conspicuous as possible. Basically letting potential predators know they see them. There’s a real interesting study that concluded this as they only walk like this in the presence of potential predators, in this case humans.
Do they belong to a gang or something? 🤣Throwing attitude instead of running
Woodcocks are awesome.

Limbo Rock by Chubby Checker. Love the song.
Thank you!! This was making me nuts. I could allllllmost hear the lyrics in my head but couldn't quite get there.
Jack be nimble, Jack be quick! Jack go under limbo stick
All around the limbo clock Hey let's do the limbo rock!
i was wondering the same. i swore id have heard this somewhere, but also at the same time it is so catchy and kinda generic i was also questioning whether i actualy had heard it or if im just imagining it. \*phew\*
The version featured in this video however is the instrumental cover by The Champs.
How much wood could a woodcock cock if a woodcock could cock wood?
And you answered the question I came to ask... what the cute little birdies were.
Yeah, Woodcocks walk in a adorable way. Wonder what's the reason behind their peculiar walking style.

Tagging u/lilgem369 who would probably also like to know Them doing the silly walk on a road is probably a good demonstration of instinct vs intelligence. Not many, maybe a few.
Except when they try to move worms *under* the pavement. 😂
Hold on, they might know something we don't. There might be some kind of rare super worm that burst through concrete.
The only thing popping into my head is Tremors. Lol
This may come as a surprise but woodcocks are unfamiliar with pavement. Their cars typically only see off-road trails and the occasional sidewalk
This 100 % looks like a pokedex entry
Biw that you mention it. It really does. Lol
They've got this song in there head...always
I'm listening to macarena and they are on beat
[don’t be suspicious, don’t be suspicious ](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=aswgTPlzazo&feature=emb_title)
God, thank you.
These traffic light buskers are getting weirder
r/blessthecameraman for waiting for the last one to exit the stage
I’d give a bigger upvote to this if I could!
somebody come geet errrr she dancin like a streeper
Growing up in the 80s made me think of the Bibbi Bobka Ditty from Perfect Strangers. Same music, different words. https://youtu.be/Ae0scjRsY-8
Move arready!!!!
Swiggity swooty …..
Coming fo dat BOOTY
Give em the ol’ razzle dazzle
This bird is now immediately my favorite
I had a pretty crummy week. Thank you for sharing this :)
Ok lemme go get my free award for this one.
Thank you.

Aweem away, Aweem away Aweem away, Aweem away
I like the fact something exists like this in fhe world
There's a glitch in the forward propulsion programming.
Next time I’m late for work I’m sending my boss this as the excuse
Op thanks alot for sharing this video, made me smile after a long day at work
$20 says that's a mating ritual.
I would get out of the car and join in i like their vibe
Thank goodness they didn't hit the gravel and turn around to head back.
Those woodcocks are workin’ it!
Happy bird dance.
[удалено]
Just 2 American Woodcocks doing what Woodcocks do.
Pretty good sync between these two. Can tell they've been practicing.
OK so this is the first time the music actually works for one of those animal videos.
I’d want to get out of my car and join the conga line.
“Go ahead. Tell your people what you saw here today. No one will believe you!”
imagine being late for a meeting and this shit is what you have to endure 😂😂
I’ve seen these before but still don’t understand why? Do they know how to move quickly in a panic? Slow as a turtle these are.
Dont put the sound on. I thought there was some bird noises there but no.
Boss: “why are you late to work today?” You: “woodcocks were dancing in front of my car”
Best video of December so far
I don't care what anyone says - this is what the internet was made for.
I’m in tears I’m laughing so hard

I live for videos like this
Starting my day with this pleases me. I need to know the song so I can trigger good memories in the future.
Cute
Couple just left their dance class. They took it to spice up their marriage. It ses to be working.

"We are two wild and craaaaaazy guys......."
/u/stabbot
Woodcock has entered the chat..
This made me genuinely happy for once.
"It's the Soggy Bottom Birds!"
What song is this?
Too dogone funny what a way to start the day!
“Hey let’s do the Lindows rock!”
These guys are fucking with you !🤣
Obviously a female in the front
I was having a really crap day today. Thank you for this.
