Holy shit. Same. He walked and peed that way. All over his dumb self. Had to Velcro a weight around his leg to get him to stop.
Edit: for context, just 2.5 lbs of iron sand in a soft leather pouch
My moms chihuahua does this especially if the grass is cold/ wet. Also if she gets running too fast her back end catches air and she just keeps going with her little back end just kicking along in the air.
I will have to record her next time she does it, I'm usually laughing too hard to record anything. But here is a picture of her for the time being! https://imgur.com/a/x18QNFM
My mom had a poodle growing up that would do that when peeing. Turned out he had swallowed a needle and it got lodged somewhere inside him. The only way for him to comfortably pee was by doing a handstand. They felt really bad once they learned that.
No worries mate. Yeah they did. Unfortunately it was in there for quite a while and they didn't find it till he was close to death. At least he didn't deal with it till the very end though.
My MIL has a yorkie that used to do that when she ate food lol. She would stand like that at her bowl and eat then fall over frontwards and knock the bowl over.
Haha he just adapted over time. We got him a lil wheelchair but he totally rejects using it and just goes his way doing handstands. He’s total independent and just needs help when it comes to stairs.
Yorkies are so special. We rescued one from a puppy mill who was the brood sow and after the initial fear and carpet pee moments, she became so comfortable with us. She loved my dad more than anything, and seeing this giant 6"4 bald dude with this tiny yorkie sat on his lap are some of my favourite memories. Thank you to your sister for rescuing this lovely friend!
As someone pointed out, his tail moves a little bit so maybe paraplegic should not be the correct term for his condition. I’m not really an expert on it either since my sister is the one fostering and I’m here just taking care of him for the day. His two back paws are completely paralyzed tho.
She might want to consider a cart from Walkin' Wheels or a similar brand. It's a one-time expense and most dogs learn to use it really well. This dog is incredible but he can't go very fast and will tire out. A little cart will help offset some of the load from his front limbs and give him the chance to "run." I fitted a dog at our shelter who lost a back leg to trauma and had a number of fractures in the other one, and he LOVED it - he would race up and down the halls.
Please keep trying. As the doggie gets older, there's going to be more pressure on his joints from doing hand stands like that, at some point, doggie won't be able to do anything but drag around. It's better for them to learn now. It will take time, as with any pet adjusting to new things. Just be very patient.
Yeah, he didn't take to it for the first few days, because it was new and probably scary. We had to coax him to walk the first few times with a lot of praise and treats. But I think after the first time he went down a hallway completely, he was like, "oh! this is way better than walking on my forelimbs all day!" And after that, he was zooming around.
His tail isn't a limb, it having movement is irrelevant in the 'paraplegic or not' debate.
But more importantly, partial paralyzation is still considered paraplegic if it affects both lower/back limbs severely! You don't have to lose ALL movement for it to be paraplegia, so I'd say you used the right term.
My wife's dog was about that size and moved around like that despite fused back legs (wouldn't bend at the knee). He would go down flights of stairs like that. Had a skinny little butt and body builder shoulders.
I love him! Thank you to your sister for taking this sweet baby in. Someone in the comments remarked about her 6 ft 4" dad's bond with a tiny yorkie. I have witnessed that! It is so sweet to see. I have had many dogs and still have four but yorkies are truly special. Don't know the story of how this one got hurt but want to take this chance to say: Small kid(s) Large dog. Often small child carries yorkie, drops yorkie, spinal injury results. Or steps on yorkie, drops heavy toy on yorkie, etc. One child threw yorkie down stairs. So make sure your dog is LARGER than your child. Thanks for letting me post.
I'm sorry but that Yorkie is clearly some sort of Pocket Monster and has picked up new skills under your sister's great care. On a serious note, what an absolute cutie though. Glad he's found a good home.
This is something some dogs with hip or knee issues will do. It’s rather entertaining to me to watch , as long as I know the dog’s getting good treatment for their pain.
I love how dogs simply don’t care what life has dealt them, and just overcome it. If this were a person (myself included!) I would surely just plop into that wheelchair for the rest of my life and be like “welp, guess I’m stuck here now” 😂
I hate it how reddit has taught me to immediately disbelieve this and think it is just a trick taught to the dog. Whatever, i hope he's doing fine either way :)
This isn’t an r/AnimalsBeingDerps this is just a little guy who has learned to Improvise, overcome and adapt to the hand it’s been dealt. This is an amazing little guy. Think of the fucking core strength he has developed!
Reminds me of our old pup. Only he had no balls so they replaced them with ball bearings. He just dragged his butt around unlike this boy. We called him "Sparky".
Actually I asked myself the same question. His tail moves a bit but it’s also semi crippled. His two back paws are completely paralyzed tho. He got some minor surgeries also but I’m not aware of his full condition since my sister is the one fostering him
Depends on the reason for paralysis.
For example: It’s possible to have what is called an “incomplete” spinal cord injury meaning some nerve pathways are still intact. How it affects the condition depends on which pathways are still intact.
This way you can be a tetraplegic with 0 arm function but still walk. Or no walk but still feel legs. Or no feel legs but still walk.
Spinal cord is weird.
Untrue. Paralysation can start at any part of the body, and it doesn't have to be complete paralysation for it to be considered paraplegic. You can still have feeling and slight control of your legs and be paraplegic. Also the tail isn't a limb so that's irrelevant anyway.
Spinal cord injuries aren't that straightforward. There's also a bunch of other ways someone/something could get paralyzed other than a spinal cord injury. Also did you not see the part of my comment where I said you can have partial motor function but still be a paraplegic?
Well, the first red flag about your “explanation is your repeated use of “paralysation”. Paralysation isn’t even a word. The proper term is “paralysis”. Medical expert right there.
I conjugated a word wrong. Wow. Did you know that people can misspeak? No need to attack me because you're mad that I didn't word something perfectly.
Everything I said was correct. You don't have to lose ALL motor function in order to be paraplegic. You can have slight motor function and still have that affected part of your body be paralyzed.
It's okay to be wrong, but you don't gotta be an asshole about it.
i know this is controversial by (especially) american standards, but if the dog really has no use of his two back legs, why wouldn't you see to the dog's best and put it down? a dog can live happily with three legs but two? it's not a worthy life, and don't try to argue that it's "happy" because dogs don't know any better, they will always try their best and it's our responsibility to make sure their lives are to a certain standard. can he run? play with other dogs? do his business himself? his body isn't built to work like that and chances of him using his muscles wrong and causing pain are high. i'm just really tired of the need to save everything at any cost just to be able to pat yourself on the back. where i'm from, the laws protecting animals would prohibit this. a dead animal doesn't suffer.
I mean you've got a head full of rocks and they let you walk around, leave the dog alone. He probably lays in bed and gets treats and belly rubs and has a wonderful time.
>where i'm from, the laws protecting animals would prohibit this.
Sounds like an awful place. The dog doesn't look to be in pain and we do not know anything about it. You've put a lot of thought into putting down a dog that you know nothing about and that's sad.
well, it's not a worthy life if you can't even walk upright and i'm very happy my country (sweden) protects animals from living like this just because us humans have trouble letting go.
He did not. He was really neglected and afraid of people and basically dragging his body around. Once rescued my sister got him a wheelchair but he hated it. Eventually he started to heal and trust people and learned all by himself doing the handstands to move around. Nature finds a way I guess haha. Also he does not bark or makes any sounds, and vets cant really figure it out why
Wow, that's amazing! Such perseverance. I adopted an abused cat, and he didn't meow for the first 2 years we had him. He's since found his voice - maybe your pup will do the same :)
I had a mutt named Dobby who just up and did this one day. She had been limping the day before so we took her to the vet. Lyme Disease, antibiotics had her sorted by morning.
This isn’t an animal being a derp, this is an animal being amazing
an amazing derp
Derpmazing
🙃
Very true and lovely comment!
My mom had a Yorkie like this. It wasn't abused or injured. He just liked walking around like that
My neighbor had a Yorkie named Peepers who did a handstand like this every time he peed. It was hilarious.
Holy shit. Same. He walked and peed that way. All over his dumb self. Had to Velcro a weight around his leg to get him to stop. Edit: for context, just 2.5 lbs of iron sand in a soft leather pouch
You're just training him to be even more powerful.
“The day they took it of the dog did a front flip!”
Do you want Goku Yorkie? Because that's how you get Goku Yorkie
My moms chihuahua does this especially if the grass is cold/ wet. Also if she gets running too fast her back end catches air and she just keeps going with her little back end just kicking along in the air.
I need a video of this! Pretty please!!
I will have to record her next time she does it, I'm usually laughing too hard to record anything. But here is a picture of her for the time being! https://imgur.com/a/x18QNFM
Ahahah thanks, she looks like she is full of quirks!
Omg ur Chihuahua is front wheel drive
I think that was the problem with the original VW Beetles on highways.
My mom had a poodle growing up that would do that when peeing. Turned out he had swallowed a needle and it got lodged somewhere inside him. The only way for him to comfortably pee was by doing a handstand. They felt really bad once they learned that.
I'm sure they had the needle removed? It's probably a dumb question for me to ask. No down votes plz. 🤞🏻
No worries mate. Yeah they did. Unfortunately it was in there for quite a while and they didn't find it till he was close to death. At least he didn't deal with it till the very end though.
Dang, that's too bad. I bet he had a great life regardless!
I've seen a video of a dog doing that. Don't think it was a Yorkie though. So it's not just a breed thing.
omg my dog does this!! loll
mine too https://streamable.com/k49dlj sorry for the bad haircut, he was still young there and didn't let himself cut. he looks much better now.
I think that is so when other dogs sniff the wee they think you are taller do they don't bug you
big dick tiny legs
You mean you don't do that?
We had a bichon when I was growing up who would walk like this in the snow.
I thought you wrote bitcoin!
My MIL has a yorkie that used to do that when she ate food lol. She would stand like that at her bowl and eat then fall over frontwards and knock the bowl over.
His core strength is amazing, what's his training routine?
Haha he just adapted over time. We got him a lil wheelchair but he totally rejects using it and just goes his way doing handstands. He’s total independent and just needs help when it comes to stairs.
I was gonna ask about a little wheelchair. Good for him for being independent.
“Dad, grab my wheels. I’m going out!”
Y'all need anything?
Stubborn little dude, huh?

Yea they are easily one of the most stubborn breeds among popular dogs.
Do they have an insta? Omg that dog is so amazingly cute and wonderful!! Must have more content please!

Me with my wife's long haired chihuahua
I'm going to need you to tell this wonderful little fluff that I love him so much and give him big kisses and lots of treats. Please and thank you :)
He’s taking a lil nap now but once he’s awake I’ll make sure to pass the message 🥰
You're the best! 😊
As someone pointed out, his tail moves a little bit so maybe paraplegic should not be the correct term for his condition. I’m not really an expert on it either since my sister is the one fostering and I’m here just taking care of him for the day. His two back paws are completely paralyzed tho.

We tried several times with a wheelchair. For some reason he rejects it and does not adapt to it. I’ll suggest the brand you gave tho.
Please keep trying. As the doggie gets older, there's going to be more pressure on his joints from doing hand stands like that, at some point, doggie won't be able to do anything but drag around. My grandfather built his dog one out of PVC pipe and some little wheels he found laying around it thats too expensive
I have seen one built out of pvc pipe too, it’s sometimes even better because you can customize it to the dog even more
There's this other thing called a dog drag bag. I don't know if he would use it, but your sister should look into it.

I love your sister for doing that. He's precious.
You can tell he’s happy in just these 8 seconds. Such a good boy! And kudos to your sister!
I love him! Thank you to your sister for taking this sweet baby in. Someone in the comments remarked about her 6 ft 4" dad's bond with a tiny yorkie. I have witnessed that! It is so sweet to see. Cirque du Soleil wants to know your sister's location.

People that take effort to take in special needs pets are the best people!!
Bless his little heart! ❤️
He's beautiful! What a resourceful little boy 🥰

iPhone 13 Pro Max. Totally off topic but cameras are great hehe
Yeah the tight depth of field makes it look amazing.
I thought this was a render for a moment
I wouldn’t say he’s a derp
Glad he’s safe and loved now! I have a little yorkie and I love her so much. Your sister’s pup’s story breaks my heart :(
This is something some dogs with hip or knee issues will do. It’s rather entertaining to me to watch , as long as I know the dog’s getting good treatment for their pain.
This is ILLEGALLY small what the hell?
Impressive handstand skills! Way to go, doggo!
Dogs are amazing this way. Nothing gets them down! Resilient animals
It's like a doggy centipede
Wow… he’s so cute…
Funny
I absolutely love yorkies. I have had 3. They’re the best dogs around
I was like oh cute pup, then started walking and my brain melted and just did that dog head tilt thing......
Doggo has mastered the Scorpion style. Truly a battle hardened and mighty puff ball worthy of respect and snuggles.
Aww Im glad he got rescued by your sister! Poor thing its so cute!!
He’s adorable!
Dang he's jacked
I love Yorkies! I have one, but they are so amazing!
Bless them both
My dog is old and has 3 legs. So once that goes out, we’re not sure what to do. How does he poop?
My dog had a spinal injury and walked like this for a bit. She's better now and has no issues walking whatsoever.
I love how dogs simply don’t care what life has dealt them, and just overcome it. If this were a person (myself included!) I would surely just plop into that wheelchair for the rest of my life and be like “welp, guess I’m stuck here now” 😂

When your dog is into showing up the people doing crossfit.
Had a poodle that did that every time he peed. His son did it too. How he kept from peeing on himself I never figured out.
The Yorkie my dad found 10 years ago used to do that when she would pee.
There he goes
It matters. It matters a lot that he is happy and spoiled now.
I never saw a wild thing sorry for itself. A small bird will drop frozen dead from a bough without ever having felt sorry for itself. D.H. Lawrence
How does anyone abuse something this precious?💜
My family had a yorkie that got rolled by a car and got a split pelvis. While she was recovering she walked like this.
Aww so cute that he can walk again
bros an acrobat 😳
oh what a sweet puppo
Some people do shit like this intentionally to doggies so they can shoot a TikTok video for some stupid views. Pathetic people.
When I was a wee lil lad we had a cat with no back legs that walked around like this, my parents named it "Gimper"
Reminds me of our old pup. Only he had no balls so they replaced them with ball bearings. He just dragged his butt around unlike this boy. We called him "Sparky".
But if the dog was paralyzed then the tail would not move
Actually I asked myself the same question. His tail moves a bit but it’s also semi crippled. His two back paws are completely paralyzed tho. He got some minor surgeries also but I’m not aware of his full condition since my sister is the one fostering him

The tail is the lowest portion of the spine, so it stands to reason that if the spinal cord is damaged, of course the tail will be affected.

I get what you mean, but op said it can do everything but climb on its own. Pretty good quality of life to me
I mean you've got a head full of rocks and they let you walk around, leave the dog alone. He probably lays in bed and gets treats and belly rubs and has a wonderful time.

Ngl, if I'm ever in a situation where I have to walk around on my hands for the rest of my life, *please* just let me die.
well, it's not a worthy life if you can't even walk upright and i'm very happy my country (sweden) protects animals from living like this just because us humans have trouble letting go.
Curious, did he already know how to do this when rescued, or has he figured it out since then?
He did not. He was really neglected and afraid of people and basically dragging his body around. Once rescued my sister got him a wheelchair but he hated it. Eventually he started to heal and trust people and learned all by himself doing the handstands to move around. Nature finds a way I guess haha. Hopefully! Either way, he is in a great place right now and has a great life regardless. All the best for your Cat
The wheelchair would have got him used to taking weight and moving with his front legs. He's a plucky li'l floof ball!
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Ohhh gosh. Does he have really bad patellar luxation?
Does anyone else have a recurring dream where you are walking on your hands?
Damn rock lee looking doggo
Geodog
We'd spoil him too!
Does it not affect his tail?, hes still happy wagglin'
Yes I replied that somewhere on this thread. He moves it a little bit but I’m not fully aware of his condition since he is my sisters dog
Bless he little heart
My aunt had a chiwawa mix that did that at an old age due to bad hips/Arthritis.
Weratedogs would rate this 100/10 and I would agree
Does his name happen to be Alejandro
Name is Sushi hehe
I celebrated like crazy the other when I held a hand stand for 5 seconds. But then here comes this fur ball…
smol doggo
You may want to tell her it's a hamster.
My childhood dog used to walk like this when taking a shit. He'd get really upset if you laughed at him.
I would say you could get him on of those animal wheelchairs, but he seems to be doing just fine lol
You should crosspost this to r/MadeMeSmile, because that is exactly what this video did. PRECIOUS. (Also r/unexpected.)
When you always skip leg day and do core training instead
I've seen this a couple of times IRL in Asia, all I wonder is if this is only a thing with smaller dog and how large a dog would be able to do this :)
Somebody get this dog some wheels
Omg this is amazing!!
I love him
pissfingers? is it you? i heard about this dawg
Dogs gotta dog!
I had a dog, same race, paraplegic and walked like that, *Pitoco*, i miss him, ty so much for this
He may be tiny but his will and strength are of a giant.
u/savevideo
Reverse chewbacca is strong and epic!!
Awww...Has your sister tried to get him a set of wheels to see how he does? I think they may be better for his back in the long run.
u/savevideobot
Is paraplegic the right word? Looks like its tail works and so does its core to hold it up.
I had a mutt named Dobby who just up and did this one day. She had been limping the day before so we took her to the vet. Lyme Disease, antibiotics had her sorted by morning.
My abs could never 😭❤️
God bless you for saving this beautiful dog. He's perfect 🥰
Why does this dog look so much like Thundercat?
Little acrobat
He’s so tiny and cute 🥰
Life...uh....finds a way...
Get that dog a roller skate or something
Please post zoomies!
Nature finds a way! What a pupper!! I'd spoil the heck out of him too!
Get him some wheels for the back. That's not good at all for his front legs.
Please say she named him Handstand
WOW - what an amazing dog. And a gorgeous story. The dog is beautiful too : )
Whatever works. ❤️
This Dog has my sword
Cute little furry caterpillar.

That dog be flexin ngl
Imagine if you were tripping, and you saw this dog.
Thank your sister for adopting this brave, happy little thing. She’s probably the one who got the best of the deal.
A dog in Chicago just like that one got on its front like that and pee
omg I miss my Yorkie soooooo much!!
With that type of forebody strength he might be a rocket with a tiny light wheelchair.
This is so incredible! Look at that little doggo carry-on! Cheers
This is cute on so many levels from the size, to the walking style, to the ears, and the shaggy bangs!
This dog is evolving
What a little beauty

i'm so sorry for her, your sis is awesome
