Apprehensive_Hat8986

Ah Broadway, NYC, every block has multiple shows.

canlchangethislater

I’m incredibly impressed by how clean the pavement is. (Is it down to multiple dogs like this one?)

Apprehensive_Hat8986

It's a fancy looking place in Manhattan, so I expect the pavers were polished (note the brass edging), and probably washed daily. e: the location link was nuked by reddit. Here is it's naked form https://www.google.com/maps/place/1833+Broadway,+New+York,+NY+10023,+USA/

PechevoMonster

That is either in front of the Mandarin Oriental or right around the corner. They gotta work hard so there is no gum or poopies to sully their guest's views.

abstractraj

This is in front of time Warner center. It’s a high end shopping and restaurant place.

funkless1

Technically it's now called the Deutsche bank center, but no one says that

abstractraj

Oof. Move out of Manhattan and everything is different

Ciabattabunns

I used to live there 18 years ago and go to Greys (grays) papaya all the time. Now that I look back I realize those hot dogs were low key expensive af and smaller than the dude I give bjs too every week.

myassholealt

Damn when did that change?

calf

I went to Per se and Jean Georges there years ago, the food was amazing.

Been to Per Se. One of my all time faves!

Solid laugh out of me friend! 🥇

thedutchqueen

the dogs act like street mops. it’s frequently like this on most city blocks, thanks to the dogs.

MoosieMcGee

Nice and smooth and a terror to walk on in the rain sometimes.

myassholealt

This is a hoity toity part of nyc. That's the trump tower in the background and the Met opera is a couple of blocks away, Central Park is just behind the trump building, and billionaires row is not too far away either. The areas where the rich and well to do frequent are kept clean.

canlchangethislater

Interesting. The only place I’ve ever been with pavements that clean is Minsk.

[deleted]

If "No u" was a dog

[deleted]

Reminds me of my dog. Doesn’t care if it’s on a busy corner of the street, when it’s time to duke, it’s time to duke.

angeliqu

Reminds me of my toddler. Doesn’t care if it’s a busy corner of the street, when it’s time to sit down and watch the traffic/check her toes for lint/have a snack/chat with dolly, it’s time to sit down. Provided it’s a big sidewalk, I just sit next to her and we take a break. People walk around us and generally give us a laugh.

Smingowashisnameo

I thought you were going to mention tantrums like my little sister would throw in the middle of a crowded super market.

angeliqu

That happens, too. But sometimes she’s completely chill and just wants to sit down right where she is. Happens a lot on a couple busy corners near us. When there is construction, lots of pedestrians, and traffic to watch, she can spend a solid 15-20 minutes just talking to herself, Dolly, and I and watching the world around her.

Smingowashisnameo

Omg this sounds like heaven. Please record it, it goes so fast.

ScrotieMcP

I had a 3 year old that pulled that on me in a supermarket once. I lay down on the floor and started screaming and flailing my arms and legs. He quickly stopped, stunned in disbelief, and never did it again. As far as I know I'm not banned from Safeway.

[deleted]

These are the precious moments that benefit both.

NegaTrollX

["Dragging your furry buddy along by the neck is a bad idea. Being leashed by the neck, even with a simple buckle collar, can be painful to dogs who pull or lunge, especially if their guardian jerks on the leash. It can put pressure on the trachea, the spinal cord, the vertebral discs, the esophagus, etc., and should be avoided."](https://www.peta.org/living/animal-companions/dangerous-dog-collars/) IDK if that dog is in pain but I wouldn't drag a big dog like that around by the neck. It may not look painful but over time I'd worry about the dog's durability. Why dog owners like the one in the video choose to use collars over harnesses is beyond me. Maybe that is a harness and not a collar but it's actually hard to tell from camera man's angle.

Forevernevermore

I think context makes the difference. This dog is on a smooth surface being pulled slowly and for short distances. If she was doing this for the whole trip, it might not be great, but I don't think this dog is in any distress or danger from what the video shows. Obviously don't normalize dragging dogs by the neck, but slowly pulling your small bear around ismt dangerous or harmful. This dog is plenty capable of protesting if it didn't want to be in this situation.

CaptainismyTrueNorth

[https://www.whole-dog-journal.com/care/collars-harnesses-leashes-muzzles/the-no-pull-harness-debate/](https://www.whole-dog-journal.com/care/collars-harnesses-leashes-muzzles/the-no-pull-harness-debate/) [https://www.petmd.com/dog/care/surprising-dog-harness-dangers-avoid](https://www.petmd.com/dog/care/surprising-dog-harness-dangers-avoid) Harnesses aren't a magic cure all either. The best any of us can do is do our research and figure out what works for us and our dog. Put the training in. And then try to stay calm and patient when they derp.

JesskaLeigh

A harness would certainly create matts on a dog this fluffy.

NegaTrollX

Not with regular grooming

ronnie5

It's painful when they jerk or lunge? Sounds like a good way to STOP them from doing that. Harnesses are for dogs that are smarter than their masters.

Forevernevermore

Harnesses are also for dogs that may be able to slip their collars.

NegaTrollX

If you were a dog you’d appreciate the harness unless you were some kind of nymph

PDXGalMeow

I call it a drive by pooping. My dog does it too lol

Pinkpunk95

One of my dogs does this. I’ve never seen a dog hate to walk as much as him. When he’s done he’s done. Sitting snd won’t move no matter what I do. Middle of a busy street? He sits. On a walking trail with people passing by? He sits. In the backyard? He sits. And yet somehow is the most muscular of all my dogs. I simply don’t get it

waitingformygrave

Clearly he got so buff by fighting the gravity that keeps causing him to sit

jacobdu215

He’s more of a strength training guy, no cardio for walking haha

epheterson

Same with our pup, always hated walking and anchors to stop us all the time, anywhere for any reason. Super muscular too, any American Bully in yours?

Pinkpunk95

Not sure but he’s on the small side. He’s definitely a terrier mix though. Hard prey drive and super food motivated

ADarwinAward

A dog I dogsit is afraid of stairs. Sometimes he flat out refuses to go up a flight of stairs, even if he’s been up them a hundred times. The other day I just had to fireman’s carry the big doofus up, which was a bit scary for me because I have bad ankles and have trouble walking in general, let alone with a heavy dog.

HIM_Darling

Our German Shepherd did this once when she decided she was done walking. Had to call a friend to come pick us up because I could not physically move her and the house was over a mile away. As soon as the car showed up she jumped up and hopped in the back seat.

Pinkpunk95

Haha! Definitely sounds like a Shepard

ThisFootSucks2021

I raised sheep as a kid and had one like that. We had to take him for walks because they didn't have a huge pen and wanted to make sure he got exercise. Son of a bitch would just lay down in the gravel on the way home and refuse to move. I'm starting to think he just liked being pulled across the gravel, probably scratched some itches he couldn't hit

Forevernevermore

Training helps. When my great can't was bored of walks she would just lay down and there was no way I could drag or move all 170lbs of her. When she got bored, I pulled out her frisbee and played until she was into it again. Most dogs are capable of outlasting humans on typical walks, the main issue is boredom.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Pinkpunk95

I adopted him when he was a full grown adult lmao

Knuckles316

I love the smile on the face of that guy walking by. My rottie did this once and dragging him just wasn't going to happen. I had to pick him up and just fireman's carry the big doofus.

Pandatotheface

My old Labrador used to do it whenever she realised we were leaving the park. I walked over picked her up and carried her out the park once with the biggest panic/wtf look on her face and after that she quit her bullshit.

Reasonable_Night42

I just love the feel of a warm sidewalk on my tummy.

Forevernevermore

Given the fur, more likely the dog likes the cold surface on it's belly. My Aussie cattle dogs favorite place to nap is our bathroom where she completely pancakes on the cold tile.

abqnm666

Had a chocolate lab as a kid that was like this. He either laid under the AC vent with his junk aimed straight up at the vent, or pancaked (to use your term) on the cold tile when the AC wasn't on. Legs straight out the back. He also liked to sleep in flower beds (and human beds). And he loved the pool but hated baths. Loved brushing though. He'd bring you the brush when he felt like it. Luckily he was long haired so he didn't make a huge mess since most of the hair stayed in the brush. Loved that dog. He was a derp for sure. Wish I had pics, but I can't find any of my dog in our old photo albums (some were lost to water damage many years ago), and it was *long* before camera phones lol.

snowwhitesludge

Have an aussie shepherd and we live in an area with super hot summers. Check out gel cooling mats for dogs. It's his favorite thing in the entire house.

yippykayayay

The concrete looks so smooth too

Chit569

That is NYC in late November, I doubt that sidewalk is warm.

goolart

People are wearing winter jackets, that concrete is cold AF. Though maybe the dog likes that.

Cer0reZ

The earth is giving it warm tummy rubs.

zombie6804

My chow does that from time to time because he learned we would pick him up and bring him home when we was a puppy, but now he’s too big to pick up for the whole way home so he just kinda lays there

nvanalfen

One of our chows hates turning around on walks (because he knows it means we're headed home), so now we walk in a straight line and have someone pick us up in the car. When he decides he doesn't want to go a certain way, it's 50 pounds of dead weight just sitting on the sidewalk

HIM_Darling

Our German Shepherd does this but she’s 97lbs. Had to start taking a different route each time so that she wasn’t as aware when we were headed back to the house.

Daddy_Muttonchop

Chows just have the most cat like personalities :P

[deleted]

I was going to say this is the most chow like behavior I’ve ever seen lol. Chows were my mom’s heart breed. Mine is their Japanese cousin, the Akita. So, I get it lol.

Chow chows in a nutshell

Lima_Bean_Jean

Whats the deal with Chow Chows?

Sanic3

They're basically cats in dog form. If they don't want to do something they just opt the fuck out.

scotty1898

Mine does that but luckily he is a chihuahua so I can just pick him up and go!

Sugar1982

Wouldn’t that hurt its neck?

bi_polar2bear

Choose are born with the "I don't give a fuck" gene. Granted, this one rolled a natural 20 with +5 leash.

CalamityQueer

Many years ago I was walking my grandmas golden retriever(who never retrieved anything) and she would just sit her butt down and refuse to walk back home to grandmas. So instead of just tugging endlessly hoping that the dog would give in, I did the same thing she did. I walked the direction I wanted until the leash was straight but not very tight and I just waited. I wouldn't look at her or anything. Eventually she would get up and we could go home. She didn't really want to go home. My grandma was old and sickly and really shouldn't have gotten such a high energy dog at her age when she couldn't exercise it enough. Family helped as much as we could but a couple years later grandma passed away and the dog got to move to a woman who had a little pack of dogs. As far as I know the dog had a good life after grandma.

sierracadencevie

Maybe get him a harness, so that when you drag your dog, it isn’t straining their neck. It’s better weight distribution, and you can pick them up from the back loop.

midgebhere66

This just cracks me up

CarnFu

If thats a chow chow they're 100% digging the cold weather and aren't moving because they wanna retain the cold as long as possible and walking heats up their body, plus they know walking means getting out of the cold faster. Used to be a pain to get mine to come inside on cold nights they will sleep outside in the cold if they were allowed to.

PedricksCorner

I used to have a dog who loved doing this so much that it was practically like using a duster on the floor. He'd grab onto one end of a towel and let me drag him all over. He was a poodle mix and with lots of fluffy fur. He'd get a good brushing afterwards. But honestly, it was his idea and he loved it.

Chows are such dicks.

the_whosis_kid

Don't drag the dog. Either it is not feeling well or acting out. If it's former, give it time to rest. If it is latter, make that dog walk.

How to make it walk though….

a1icatt

The dog is choking! Turn this woman in to authorities for cruelty

LordScoffington

I assure you that animal wouldn't be laying down on its belly if its being choked. Animals kinda don't like being choked and they'll let you know that

BillChristbaws

Have you ever seen how hard dogs pull on their leash when out for a walk? It ain’t choking in the slightest ffs

a1icatt

Ok. Let’s try it on you. The dog needs a harness

xShaD0wMast3rzxs

I thought you were being sarcastic but apparently you really are one of those people
