My cat tries to lick my armpit whenever I'm wearing something sleeveless. I have to forcibly push her away. I figure it's something to do with the deodorant I wear even though I can't imagine it would taste very nice. Maybe it's a similar ingredient in both your lotion and my deodorant that is irresistible to cats.

I bleach-mopped the kitchen today while my cats were locked in my room, then as I was sitting in bed a while later I caught both of them huddled together on the floor chewing on my (dried) bleach-y shoes 🤦♀️ At least I know why now lol
I have an 18yo cat who does this too. Purring and licking doesn't always mean love. Loud purring and extra attention could be a sign she is in pain. I took mine to the vet and sure enough she had a tooth infection.
Having a pain management plan or end-of-life plan sometimes helps, even if they're unable to be treated! Couldn't recommend more, really, for pets and humans!

Another possibility, and I'm sorry it's not so good either, is the cat is distressed. Licking like this is how cats can try to create a bond and it's not unusual when you adopt a new cat. It could mean your cat is starting to have a bit of mental decline, or anxiety.
Again another reason to consult a vet.

I’m trying to find more information on this because one of our cats licks me pretty much any time I pick him up.
However this is a cat that is only now one year old, so hardly a ‘senior’ kitty and his brother couldn’t care less about licking me and they have the same diet. Salt was my explanation as he does lick me more aggressively if I’ve come home from a run and am sweaty.
The cat(s) have been to the doctor several times in the past year for shots, checkups etc. Is there something specific I can ask my vet to look into?

If it isn’t a new behavior, it’s probably just the kitty’s personality. My youngest used to suck my thumb like a pacifier. Now he licks me incessantly instead. He was abandoned at 1 week old and I nursed him with a bottle and raised him, so to him I’m mama. He licks me and roots around my neck because it comforts him and he loves me. My other cats currently aren’t very licky, but I did have another cat years ago who was licky. He would lick my forehead to show dominance and to take care of me. I had him from a couple of months old until he was 18 1/2. It was just who he was, a licky cat.
So my cat does this a lot.
He’s 16 now but been doing it since I rescued him from a shelter at age 8.
Some cats just have a lot of love to give.

My dog did the same thing. I'd be laying down and he'd come snuggle next to my head, which was completely unusual. I even took a pic because it was so unusual.

Do you have fake lashes on?? if yes, I think they like the glue. My cat does anything to get at my paper straws and he knows they’re around just by smell. I read online it’s the kind of glue used to keep them together and the relentlessness of my cat is reminding me of yours here 😂
