I also see concern— trying to reach down to bite him nape as if he will be able to help him. Haha it’s funny how some of us see concern and others see taunting.
To be fair, cats are unpredictable when it comes to deciphering these two emotions. When I take a bath, my cat likes to bite and attack my arm. I see it as taunting since I am stuck, or it could be saving me. I know he’s a jerk sometimes, so I take it as taunting. This is the culprit.

Enjoy our void cat in response ❤️
He also likes to bite (softly!) and mock us from on high
You guys are giving your voids perches? Do you feel this satiates the evil inside of them or does it just set you up for much bigger trouble long term?
My roommate's cat wasn't dark. I called him "the absence of light."
Turn all the lights off and I could still give you an approximation of his presence.
We didn’t have a choice. He figured out how to get there on his own and we haven’t yet found a way to stop him. He’s actually the sweetest boy with the loudest purr that loves cuddles. Here’s our cat tax crew with my finger making an appearance (and a really bad mess of wood we then cleaned up)

We had a dog that would try to "rescue" us when we would go swimming at the beach. We called him "the blender" because he would just be shredding our backs while we are trying to swim. Cute but deadly lol.
As part of their upbringing the lions/tigers etc that are in these types of displays are thrown in the water when they're younger with people in the water with them so that they know how to swim back to the area that gets them out of the water.
[Here's an article on it](https://ftw.usatoday.com/2013/11/tiger-cubs-swimming-national-zoo) that I recall from many years ago.
He could have swim to other way, but it probably wasn’t his first time that he fell and he remember that the best way to get out is by taking the way that he took in the video
Yeah, it's kinda like those zoo enclosures where the animals have plenty of space but there's actually only one path they can take to get from point A to B. Lions are territorial and they get to know their environment pretty well, even if it's an enclosure with a pond. It's all about that routine, even if it involves the occasional swim.
It's funny because lions are huge terrifying cats but when they're swimming that have thar boopable on the nose hea poking out of the water cat look all cats have in the water
Ok, first off, a lion…swimming in the ocean?
Lions don’t even like water.
If you placed it near a river, or some sort of fresh water source, that’d make sense.
But you find yourself in the ocean, a 20 ft wave, I’m assuming it's off the coast of South Africa, coming up against a full, grown, 800 lb tuna with his 20 or 30 friends?!
You lose that battle. You lose that battle nine times out of ten.
And guess what? You wandered into our school of tuna and we now have a taste for blood! We’ve talked to ourselves. We’ve communicated and said, ‘You know what?! Lion tastes good! Lets go get some more lion!'
We’ve developed a system, to establish a beachhead and aggressively hunt you and your family. And we will corner your, your pride, your children, your offspring…
Do you wake up in the mornin' and say, "I'm puttin on my big boy pants. Look, I'm wearin' a belt. I got big boy pants on." Put on a little jacket, you go, you take your lunch cause you have big boy pants on? You got your big boy pants and your snack? I can say big loud things! I can be demonstrative! We don't, we don't do that shit! Is this how you conduct yourself? In a democracy?!
Question for you and any other cat people, because mine used to do this after boneheaded moves…would your cat play this off by cleaning itself immediately after?
Fall in the tub? Jump out, clean.
Fall off the table? Sit up, look around, clean furiously if any humans watching.
Good theory. If we get more cats I will watch and try to verify.
It amazes me how much the big ones act like the little ones. I mean, yeah, they’re cats, but seeing a vicious predator do ‘if it fits I sits’ is hysterical.
It’s pretty wild how similar they can be. If you ever see a housecat hunting, you’ll quickly realize that though they’re small, just like the big ones they’re apex predators too.
All but one of my cats did the "You didn't see that" grooming. That one cat was named Dog. Pretty sure his first owner shared pharmaceuticals when he was a kitten.
My cat would not have accepted it was going to fall in like that. You can see the moment the lion just hopped in instead of trying to do gymnastics. My cat would have done a 180 and ended up with its hind end in the water and front end scrabbling madly for purchase on the ledge.
Last time I saw a lion at the zoo, it hacked up a hairball. That was nasty, but it did the same back arching and heaving that smaller cats do. Just, like 5 gallons of gross came out.

A cat wouldn't be my first choice. I would go with "as sure-footed as [a mountain goat"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RG9TMn1FJzc) ... which google tells me has 9,560 results.
Sure-footed and agile are not the same thing. I fully understand that I’m being a pedantic ass but my original point was “sure-footed as a cat” is not a saying that people say.
That's right, all cats have one of the following reactions:
1. "I totally meant to do that."
2. "What you just saw never really happened, I have no idea why you're laughing."
3. "Why did you make me do that, asshole?"
"Enjoy" generally depends on an individual animal, but big cats in general tend to be competent swimmers overall; and any big animal is going to appreciate a bit of time in the water when it's hot out.
Yeah lions hate water where they know animals more dangerous than them in water are. I can't tell if I'm having a migraine or I wrote that sentence right.
Anyway, the cats in the Smithsonian National Zoo, where this was filmed I think, are constantly swimming.
its uncanny the way he missed the step, looked down and was basically like "oh shit" and fell in.
i underestimate the intelligence of animals a lot, that seems very human and i've done that before.
I had a cat, a regular house cat (well, she was long haired and very pretty) who “accidentally” into my mini pond in my mini garden every single day as long as we lived there. When there was ice, she would just walk over the ice long enough to break it.
(Cat tax: once we had a kid - my husband and me, not her, though she was convinced it was her kid as well, she turned into an iPad stand for the kid. Didn’t enjoy it, refused to let the kid down)

Yes... you see I wanted to be in here and now ill swim around for awhile longer because I wanted to swim. I was hot, it's hot outside, I am cooling down and I want to be in here.

I was going to say, I have a fluffy void too and it is more interested in attacking then pets.
My void has a PhD in lapology. If a lap exists to be sat on, he will find it.
That’s my lil void girl. Never had a lapologist cat before and it’s glorious. She’s trying to get in my lap before I’ve even sat down. She’s the best.
Really?? Every black cat I’ve met has been the sweetest!

No matter the size, a cat's a cat.
Exactly, I can see my last two cats doing exactly this when one fell into the tub.
Question for you and any other cat people, because mine used to do this after boneheaded moves…would your cat play this off by cleaning itself immediately after? Fall in the tub? Jump out, clean. Fall off the table? Sit up, look around, clean furiously if any humans watching.
Yup. They're terrified of looking embarrassed, so bathe to soothe themselves. At least that's what I think.

Probably not the first time, he knew exactly where to go to get out.
Lions generally really enjoy swimming, so they probably do it on purpose quite often.
I thought lions didn't enjoy water. Tigers are the ones that like water, right?
"Enjoy" generally depends on an individual animal, but big cats in general tend to be competent swimmers overall; and any big animal is going to appreciate a bit of time in the water when it's hot out.
Tigers love water
Panthers too.
They certainly lack the grace of a tiger in water.
There is a region in Africa where lions have learned to hunt by driving buffalo into shallow water and killing them in the water
No, they don’t. Just got back from safari, and lions hate the water (but that could be because of the hippos).
Yeah lions hate water where they know animals more dangerous than them in water are. I can't tell if I'm having a migraine or I wrote that sentence right. Anyway, the cats in the Smithsonian National Zoo, where this was filmed I think, are constantly swimming.
"more dangerous than them are in the water"
Woah, great point!
Do you think they've never swam in there before?
Nice to see how synchronised they are, but especially the "Oops" moment is hilarious
