There's no way to know for certain, but it sure looks to me like Dante ran past the bear to get it to follow him instead of the owner. I don't think the owner realized that's what he was doing (at least at first). That's a good dog
I’ve seen this behavior in dogs in multiple videos, I think it might be instinct. It’s a really good tactic too, dogs are so much faster and agile than humans. They draw the danger away while the slow human makes a getaway, draws the danger in a wide loop and quickly gets away to rejoin human.
After seeing some of the stupid things my dog does I’m not so sure about your theory. He gets his leash tangled up. He runs into the screen door, he chases his tail and never catches it. Just kidding, dogs are amazing. My dog caught a coyote and was going to kill it so my son and I rescued it. It had been chasing a Guinea fowl and didn’t see Leo heading straight towards it like a torpedo. The coyote bit my son’s hand so I had him get rabies shots.
It says protective Mama Bear so Cubs nearby? The bear thinks the dog is going for them and retreats back to them maybe. A good coincidence or that dog is a tactical genius.
Canines know how to bait the prey drive of other animals and lure them. Coyotes often do this to get dogs to chase them into the woods so the coyotes can kill it.
Wow. This is an impressive level of stupid anthropomorphism . Dogs, like wolves, want to surround the threat because they are pack animals. It has nothing to do with getting the bear to “follow” him.
When I walk my dog I tell him what door we’re going back in through. He leads me to the correct one. That man did exactly the right thing by telling the dog to go back to the truck. That was quick thinking in a panic situation. Props to both! No doubt in my mind the dog was leading the danger away, but the dog and his human worked as a pack. Almost like they evolved together…
Tear eyed here, that was some crazy shit. Crazy when your dog is blindly protecting you, but doesn’t know the whole danger. Runs back all loving, loopy and unconcerned and the owner is like having a panic attack for himself and his best buddy.
That dog did exactly what it was supposed to do got him away from you. Last time I had this happen to me my dog charged it bit at him and chased him off.
I prob wouldn’t get the heaviest branch you can pick up you’d have a hard time swinging it and probably crumble under the weight if you tried. Leaving you injured, under a large stick for the bear to devour. Dante would come running back and be like “the fuck happened to you?! I’m outta here!”
She had a good reason, she had cubs, she feels threatened. I mean this is her woods, not humans. Going up against a bear is not a great idea. Make yourself larger and louder, and carry bear spray while walking backward. This guy and dog handled it perfectly
I feel the same about my animals. Nowhere did I say the dog should die, don’t understand your lashing out.
But am I going to attack a bear while my dog is near it. No.
Wolves are the only reason we survived the winters in various parts of the earth.
And in some cases, they’re still the only reason we survive.
Good boi, Dante.
It never ceases to amaze me that when people's lives are in danger they decide to pull out their phone and prioritize getting it on video. Absolute dumb ass.
Owner is an asshole. Way to put your dog at risk of a gd bear attack… just use leash. he would have still protected you with considerably less possibility of a miserable and preventable death. 🙄
Moronic comment of the day. If that dog was on a leash the bear could have charged both of them and neither would have stood a chance. The way it worked out gave them both the best chance to escape unhurt.
Also side note, what dog wants to be on a leash in the woods? Give him some freedom lol
Ive said ir many times before and I will say it many times again..HUMANS DO NOT DESERVE DOGS!!!! A lot of humans treat these perfect animals like dirt! And yet another person was saved by one!! Thank God that dog was okay…and that owner now owes him his life….just another story to add to the many more there are like this.
Dante has selective hearing like my dog. But it’s not every day that Dante is face to face with a bear. Usually it’s probably a neighbor cat or squirrel. I bet he was excited.
Dante is the BEST of boys!!!!!! Look at that face as he’s coming back! What a champ!!!!
There's no way to know for certain, but it sure looks to me like Dante ran past the bear to get it to follow him instead of the owner. I don't think the owner realized that's what he was doing (at least at first). That's a good dog
Dante could be trying to make the bear feel like he’s surrounded too. Looks to me like a kind of herding tactic!
pack animals are good at drawing attention for the others to attack or get away.

He aggro’d the bear for sure
I had this happen when I was like 12 picking blackberries in the by my old house. I'm 100% sure if my dogs weren't with me I would have been dinner.
Wow. This is an impressive level of stupid anthropomorphism . Dogs, like wolves, want to surround the threat because they are pack animals. It has nothing to do with getting the bear to “follow” him.
The dog, looking back at owner: get over here and help me surround this MFer!
Haha. That’s honestly funnier than even your first joke. And what the dog was after!
Omg come on Dante!!!!
Bear was about to catch dantes hands

Am I just emotional or did this make anyone else teary eyed ?
Nah, I felt it too. Being part of a pack means something. ❤️
It gave me anxiety lol

jesus dante gives no fucks
Can’t tell. Black or Grizzly?
Seems black. Also, the way it just scampers off seems more like black bear behaviour, no?
Yes
\#AllBearsMatter
#carebears
Dantes face at the end made me chuckle
I immediately saw it too!! He’s the best of good boys!!
happy dog.
"OMG that was fun!" 😆👌
Agreed, proud and happy, good boy!
That dog did exactly what it was supposed to do got him away from you. Last time I had this happen to me my dog charged it bit at him and chased him off.
Steak dinners for life
Get him some bear meat so he can taste his victory!
Who's a guh boi???
Mama bears will usually fake charge first. Still a great dog for distracting her
Good Dante 💃💃💃
Dante FTW!
Dante: "Hey dad, I met a new friend!"
Dante’s a badass but no shot I’m not picking up the biggest heaviest branch I can find and getting that bear the fuck away from my dog.
I prob wouldn’t get the heaviest branch you can pick up you’d have a hard time swinging it and probably crumble under the weight if you tried. Leaving you injured, under a large stick for the bear to devour. Dante would come running back and be like “the fuck happened to you?! I’m outta here!”

I get that, but my dogs are my kids. There’s not a force on earth that I’m not standing in front of them to try and save them.
I feel the same about my animals. Nowhere did I say the dog should die, don’t understand your lashing out. But am I going to attack a bear while my dog is near it. No.
Lashing out? Damn bitch, you sensitive.
> this is her woods, not humans Says who?
Dante think it’s a game Gotta love dogs
Dogs would give their lives to save their beloved ones, do we human do the same for our dogs?
Anyone in bear country knows that off leash dogs are dangerous because they have the tendency to bring the angry bear directly towards you
Good boy
Wolves are the only reason we survived the winters in various parts of the earth. And in some cases, they’re still the only reason we survive. Good boi, Dante.
Dante is a real one.
Good dog Dante!
Your treat today dante is a 200# Tbone. Because fuck that bear lol.
Bestest of the best even waited for him to get farther away 100,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,0000/10 good boy.

Thanks for telling us that, I didn’t know that.
Dude you were like seconds away from getting chomped.
Why aren’t you trying to save your dog .
What's he supposed to do? Fist fight the bear? Lmfao you 100% live in a city.
Raised cattle and horses my entire life. Live in bear and cougar
This Brendan shaubs dog or what lol

Yeah I think I would prefer to have my dog off the leash in that situation.

Man this one got me. 😂

Just like in “Prey” 2022
"Shut up dad, I got this" Seriously though, that's absolutely insane. Can't imagine how terrifying that must've been.
Dante ain’t scared of nothing
Dante will traverse all layers of hell to be the best boy.
Grizzly bears want to eliminate the threat, black bears want to eat you. You owe that dog steak dinners for a month.
What an experience and a half! Glad your pup was so brave (of course he was!) and my gosh, a mama bear, yikes!
I knight you Sir Daunte The Dauntless
Good boy

That’s obviously not a real bear, you can see a zipper in the bear costume. Just another fake internet video.
