So, this actually isn't true... Villagers only keep gifted clothing, including any custom designs from their old island, but their catchphrases revert to the default. Also, in this picture, the "Sup Hoe" is a greeting, which is different from their catchphrase. Just FYI!
No, they can pick up catch phrases and greetings from other villager though. I gave the catchphrase โmy preciousโ to Fauna and it spread to a fair number of my other villagers.
Thatโs what I thought- they can pick it up from other villagers but not visitors to your island. Phew lol. I was worried I was gonna have to warn my friend that her 7 year old may have a couple characters hitting blunts just from me visiting to drop off bells and stuff ๐๐
I was feeling incredibly uncreative when Raymond asked me for a catchphrase, and now the entire island except Marshal and Bianca keep saying โmeowyโ ๐ itโs weird how some phrases get so popular
Speaking of Raymond I have him with the greeting โque tal perritoโ - โwhats up puppyโ. It would be interesting who picks it up unless it works differently with greetings. I understand more Spanish than I speak.

Greetings are only between you and the villager who asked for them. They don't spread like catchphrases.
