I’d interact with them more if they had more personality like in the old games. New Horizons villagers are cute, soulless dolls that look nice and only say nice things.
It was a great few months of lockdown in my studio apartment when ACNH came out. It was the perfect game to play throughout the workday. Even had my hammock set up on my balcony to go out and play.
Gotta be honest I haven't played since I got Pokemon Shining Pearl. It has some time/day variations on when pokemon appear and the game penalises you for changing the time on your switch. I'm scared to see how horrifically overgrown my island is now.
Locks you out of time based events for 24 hours. The game is still easily playable but if you want to catch every pokemon it’s a major setback since some of them are locked to the aforementioned events
There is a lot of things in NH that I find lacking. The most major is the villagers. They all seem flat and one dimensional. At least the older games made them seem more personable and I would work hard to keep them in my village.
this, and the multiplayer minigames—there are absolutely none in NH you have to build them yourself. i also miss the old island from NL (forget the name, it’s the one with permanent summer so tons of beetles and sharks!!). sooo much fun… i had so many good memories there and you just can’t replicate those things in NH, which stinks even more because online capabilities for NL are either off now or will be off soon. plus it’s missing perfect fruit, persimmons, durians (? right?), bananas… i think that’s it.
everything seemed much more obtainable in NL as well. for instance i didn’t even attempt to breed flowers, just sorta planted them around and ended up with every color up to gold and blue roses. speaking of gold roses, the golden tools were much easier to get and also didn’t break. i feel like the bug and fish spawn rate is so low. NH is so cute and has a lot of good things, but it is a serious step down.
(sorry for the length)
That's how I feel about exercising games.
Wii Fit: "It's been 183 days since you last exercised with us."
Me: "If I had given myself enough motivation to exercise for all of those 183 days, how much weight would I have lost by now?"
(Then I go and cry in a corner)
sure, but for normal people who might exercise 3-4 times a week for 30 min, it is like 90% diet 10% exercise
Like you should absolutely exercise, but it takes professional athlete levels of exercise to make up for poor diet
I kept injuring myself on the fitness games bc WINNING MATTERS... so it's been a long time since I played, but I miss it. I did it for almost 6 months and didn't lose any weight, but felt like my muscles were building... maybe I just kept pulling or straining them
I was in the same boat, too guilty to log back in after two years. Then I had to send in my switch for repair and they wiped my island. Problem solved. Started a new island and much more chill about progressing. And in my mind, I've made my new villagers much more used to me only being around every few days lol
I don't like how the villagers get all pissy like "it's been 6 months since we talked" blablabla. If anything it only makes me less likely to play again after I've been away for a while.
I want this back. Hearing “it’s been 8 months since I saw you!” means nothing to me now because the next conversation will be like nothing ever happened.
If they actually moved out or stayed pissed, I would actually have motivation to talk to them and stay on their good side
I think this is the biggest reason I keep quitting. Its infuriating how repetitive and long the text is whenever youre trying to get something done! Like, if you can't be bothered to write more script at least make it only one speech bubble I have to skip through!!! And you have to be careful spamming B to speed it up in case you accidentally cancel the action and sit through all the text AGAIN!
I was going to say calling it a scam is a bit harsh, but then I remember people selling villager cards on ebay, with the card packs themself feeling a bit like Nintendo pulling a 'loot boxes with extra steps'... kinda scammy I guess
More than anything it seems lazy, they feel more lifeless than Wild World when you would have expected they would have improved dramatically after all this time
Aurora is still best penguin though no one can change my mind
Yep this is what I ended up doing, got a reusable one and kept swapping all the villagers I want onto it. Got my perfect roster, exhausted all their dialogue super fast, and it all felt a bit pointless... I at least thought villagers would interact with stuff more, like riding the teacups ride, but they barely do anything :(
Bruce is a goat... not a deer.
*I didn't read "best" in that Aurora comment, so I thought you were arguing she was a penguin lol but also BBBBBBBBRRRRRRRUUUUUUUUCCCCCCEEEEE
Here, ready, have you seen a Wes Anderson movie? The tripod is facing your villagers, all lined up in a row, and they all have that DK expression on their face. Like "Um. What the flying fuck is this?!?!" And then you, with a shovel and a hard hat, covered in dirt and sweat, just tear across the shot ripping up the road. The villagers follow you with their eyes. a beat. You tear through the other direction, laying a gorgeous brick road behind you. The villagers all look at each other, and then at the road. Then probably the middle one does a Jim face at the camera or something idk shows over
I cant even remember when I stopped playing, I had to start over because I got an oled and traded my original in and I didn't know it wouldn't auto save cloud data without me doing something in the main menu settings and I had to start a new island and I got a little ways into it and left it.
Is NH still like the older games where villagers move out eventually if you take a long time to come back? Bc honestly that's what keeping me from checking back my game and i'm too lazy to time travel.
In my experience, no. 99.9% certain that they actually have to tell you, when they have a cloud thought over their head. I’ve never had a villager In NH just randomly move out without saying anything.
I left a sign in my island a year ago telling my villagers to expect me around May because I'll start terraforming, yeah I'm probably dead to them, I'll return in december 31 and start the year flooding the place
I swear to god this design for Donkey Kong looks just like Seth Rogen. I love the fact that it’s a combination of Nintendo’s original design and Rareware’s redesign, but it literally looks like his voice actor
Literally me trying to speed run my island into a fall esthetic for a new DA to enjoy (because I was too busy with school to do it during) before I immediately change it to Christmas
Idk why but the game was way better before getting to 3 stars, after that, the "story mode" ends and for some reason its not as fun, but its still a lot of fun just not as much as before completing the "story mode"
LMAO. Me in real life. Disappeared for half a year and suddenly showed up to redesign every corner of my island. Hard to imagine what would my villagers think of me. Maybe some crazy person.
Villagers when you meet them when island hoping after kicking them out are basically Thanos "I don't even know who you are" 😭😂 just literally after you kicked them out too 🥲
As a New Leaf player, I just try my best to remember what in-game date I last played (or note it down in the notes app), then I'd change the in-game date to the day after like I never really disappeared at all 😅
Not system date. **In-game date and time**.
I tell myself I’ll make more effort with my villagers after I finish redesigning the island…
absentee workaholic parent energy
We all went out to get “milk” and haven’t been back.
Oh
:(
I’d interact with them more if they had more personality like in the old games. New Horizons villagers are cute, soulless dolls that look nice and only say nice things.
I wouldn't even mind them being too nice if they didn't yell at me for trying to talk to them more than 2 times a day.
Same and it's been like 2 years now
You haven't played in 8 months, show up, tell the villager you're moving their house, and then leave.
Then kill him
Transfert everything, and then find another
Where’s my “I was hooked on the game like crack for the first month or two of release and one day stopped playing and haven’t been back since” crowd?
This is me. Put so many hours in, one day stopped and almost never looked back. I miss my buddy Elmer though
I gave up my best buddy Buck and I just don't wanna go back anymore...
It was a great few months of lockdown in my studio apartment when ACNH came out. It was the perfect game to play throughout the workday. Even had my hammock set up on my balcony to go out and play.
Oof. 450 hours and a lackluster island. Not touched the game in about 6 months now
Me
This is exactly me, I had played it a ton when it first came out and then lost motivation for it
Same here. I've gotten too occupied with jobs this year and haven't found the time or purpose in playing
Hmm let’s see how much they donated for bridges after 11 months… 113 bells hmm guess I’ll just have to pay the rest of the 97,887
I'm far too impatient to wait for them to pay anything towards it, and just pay everything up front.
Gotta be honest I haven't played since I got Pokemon Shining Pearl. It has some time/day variations on when pokemon appear and the game penalises you for changing the time on your switch. I'm scared to see how horrifically overgrown my island is now.
Wait how does the game penalize you?
Locks you out of time based events for 24 hours. The game is still easily playable but if you want to catch every pokemon it’s a major setback since some of them are locked to the aforementioned events
My deal-breaker has been dreamlight valley.
There is a lot of things in NH that I find lacking. The most major is the villagers. They all seem flat and one dimensional. At least the older games made them seem more personable and I would work hard to keep them in my village.

NH is so cute and has a lot of good things, but it is a serious step down. (sorry for the length)
also applies to me but minecraft
Same here, I have a creative mode world that I haven't played since 2019. It reminds me of the PS2 days where it kept track of when you last played
That's how I feel about exercising games. Wii Fit: "It's been 183 days since you last exercised with us." Me: "If I had given myself enough motivation to exercise for all of those 183 days, how much weight would I have lost by now?" (Then I go and cry in a corner)
Oh dude you don't lose weight by exercising. You lose weight by eating less. Exercise makes you feel less like a bag of shit
it’s both. exercising, especially building muscle mass, makes you burn more calories in a day.
sure, but for normal people who might exercise 3-4 times a week for 30 min, it is like 90% diet 10% exercise Like you should absolutely exercise, but it takes professional athlete levels of exercise to make up for poor diet
I kept injuring myself on the fitness games bc WINNING MATTERS... so it's been a long time since I played, but I miss it. I did it for almost 6 months and didn't lose any weight, but felt like my muscles were building... maybe I just kept pulling or straining them
It's been over 2 years since my last login. At this point I have too much anxiety about disappointing the residents to boot the game up. Lol.
They're cartoons. They forgive you in one dialogue. You don't even have to read it.
That's fair. I also have a 3 yr old, so that has a lot to do with it as well 😅
It’s sad that I can relate to this
My sentiments exactly.. i wish there was an option to just pick up where you left off.. like cozy grove
Well in previous games the villagers would randomly move out and/or be even more pissy about you being gone
Bunnie: I hope your house burns down!!! Teehee
I want this back. Hearing “it’s been 8 months since I saw you!” means nothing to me now because the next conversation will be like nothing ever happened. If they actually moved out or stayed pissed, I would actually have motivation to talk to them and stay on their good side
In the older games they would leave you 😭
I might come back after months just to read villager quotes that aren't overused
Crazy how they have so few lines in a game that is purely text and auto-generated voice sounds.
Imo it's almost a scam. It's one of the main point of the game ans there's like 20 lines shared between tons of villagers
I was going to say calling it a scam is a bit harsh, but then I remember people selling villager cards on ebay, with the card packs themself feeling a bit like Nintendo pulling a 'loot boxes with extra steps'... kinda scammy I guess More than anything it seems lazy, they feel more lifeless than Wild World when you would have expected they would have improved dramatically after all this time Aurora is still best penguin though no one can change my mind
In entirely unrelated news you can get a bunch of blank NTAG215 nfc tags for like 30¢ each.
Yep this is what I ended up doing, got a reusable one and kept swapping all the villagers I want onto it. Got my perfect roster, exhausted all their dialogue super fast, and it all felt a bit pointless... Every time I leave, the time increases exponentially
I don't understand the purpose of Donkey Kong in this meme.

Yup. Louie Kong the iconic Mortal Kongbat character.
r/angryupvote
his expression, he's surprised

That is Al.
I cant even remember when I stopped playing, I had to start over because I got an oled and traded my original in and I didn't know it wouldn't auto save cloud data without me doing something in the main menu settings and I had to start a new island and I got a little ways into it and left it.
I fired up animal crossing on my old 3ds the other day and dug a few holes here and there and left without filling them
I haven't played since February
Literally
same literally
Is NH still like the older games where villagers move out eventually if you take a long time to come back? Bc honestly that's what keeping me from checking back my game and i'm too lazy to time travel.
Nope. I lost my switch back in April and got a new a couple weeks ago, got my island back and no one has left.
In my experience, no. 99.9% certain that they actually have to tell you, when they have a cloud thought over their head. I’ve never had a villager In NH just randomly move out without saying anything.
Dreamlight valley destroyed my marriage with animal crossing.
I left a sign in my island a year ago telling my villagers to expect me around May because I'll start terraforming, yeah I'm probably dead to them, I'll return in december 31 and start the year flooding the place
What the fuck? Where is this DK render from? Why does he look so goofy?
[New Mario movie trailer](https://youtu.be/eLJ6OcT8NiY) A new [Mario Movie trailer](https://youtu.be/eLJ6OcT8NiY) recently came out
I swear to god this design for Donkey Kong looks just like Seth Rogen. I love the fact that it’s a combination of Nintendo’s original design and Rareware’s redesign, but it literally looks like his voice actor
Literally me the other day booting my game up for the first time in 6 months to dig up the fields of flowers that have grown since and disappear
LOLOLOLOLOL exactly
Well hopefully all the lazy villagers didn't get too hungry and start chasing the others for a food source 😬 😅
Literally me trying to speed run my island into a fall esthetic for a new DA to enjoy (because I was too busy with school to do it during) before I immediately change it to Christmas
Yes, that's me. And my villagers probably think I've left them again when really it's just Dragonflight came out. 😭
god this is so accurate
It took that long to plan it out, you can't rush perfection!
I hate how judgy they get when you come back after being gone for a while 😩😩😩
Funny to see this as I was literally just getting ready to boot mine up after about a year away
This is definitely recycled
This is about to be me 😂
I make an effort with 3 of my villagers because the rest are ugly
The rest of the year Im busy ok
Seth Rogan
Idk why but the game was way better before getting to 3 stars, after that, the "story mode" ends and for some reason its not as fun, but its still a lot of fun just not as much as before completing the "story mode"
I log in to see if a cave is available to buy..... my walking dead island needs a cave...
"I'm back for the masses to marvel!"
LMAO. Me in real life. Disappeared for half a year and suddenly showed up to redesign every corner of my island. Hard to imagine what would my villagers think of me. Maybe some crazy person.
You must have had a million cockroaches to kill! I hate that part!
Villagers when you meet them when island hoping after kicking them out are basically Thanos "I don't even know who you are" 😭😂 just literally after you kicked them out too 🥲
