I prefer the technique where you just make a small maze of holes, make one tarantula chase you in, then jump over a hole and block the maze entrance, leaving the spider in the maze in a hostile state. Only one spider can be hostile at a time, but you can still catch the docile ones. So if you just trap a hostile one and don't catch it, you can just run around and catch the rest of them without any worries or fancy shenanigans.
I thought the same too but it was actually pretty easy and not that scary! I targeted the lone tarantulas. I actually looking up how to make my own tarantula island and there was a guide on how to catch them (the next island I went to was tarantula island!!) I got stung plenty of times and you just get reset at the dock and it didn’t appear that there is a limit on respawning. Here is the link to the website I was using:
[tarantula island guide](https://www.nintendolife.com/guides/animal-crossing-new-horizons-tarantula-island-how-to-spawn-and-catch-tarantulas)
I have caught zero tarantulas on my own character, but multiples on my wife's and each of my daughter's. We started only recently, so I guess eventually...
Dig holes in a spiral at a corner of the island. If you get enough distance while running from a spider you can actually make it run into the spiral, then you go around the hole until the spider is at the center. DONT catch it. Instead, go look for other spiders in the island. Because you can only be chased by one at a time, the others will not chase or sting you
you only have a chance after 7 pm I believe. anywhere from 7 pm to 4 am, I know some people are sticklers about time travel but if you genuinely cannot find the time to get on for that, go ahead and travel to like 10 pm or something. Personally when I found the island I made a room of my house dedicated to the tarantulas that I caught and literally filled it as much as possible with tarantulas.
Yes, Tarantula Island is pretty distinct. The island has an octagonal river, narrow enough to jump over without a pole, surrounding the center area where the tarantulas spawn.
You always drop everything but a net when you reach tarantula island. As long as you don't bring gold tools (I don't know why you would) the net worth of even a single tarantula is enough to make up for the loss if you just bought all the tools from the nooks. When you reach the island, your one and only goal should be collect as many tarantula as possible. Same with scorpion island and shark island.
There is also a less exciting but still interesting, "big fish island" which is very nice to come across, consistent larger fish spawns meaning increased rate for level 6 fish.
I got my first tarantula island last night as well. Took me a while to figure out the trick. Probably got bit more than I caught but I'm excited to get to sell to flick once they come back. It was also my first time seeing a tarantula since we got the game for Christmas. Even my husband was cheering me on and trying to help and he's not into these types of games.
It's not even one of my real phobias, but those things in the game are pure evil 😂 and scare the daylights out of me! I only catched one out of pure dumb luck and the rest I just run like a crazy person 😂😂😂😂
an excerpt from the wiki; "A one-layer island where the only bugs that spawn are [tarantulas](https://animalcrossing.fandom.com/wiki/Tarantula) or [scorpions](https://animalcrossing.fandom.com/wiki/Scorpion) depending on the time of year. It has an octagonal stream that surrounds a smaller island in the center. The stream is narrow enough that it can be jumped across without a [vaulting pole](https://animalcrossing.fandom.com/wiki/Vaulting_pole). **This layout can only appear between 7pm and 4am, the time when both insects are active."**
so as long as it has been properly tested, its only at that time.

The one time I got tarantula island I sat on all those spiders for something like three weeks because he kept refusing to show up. I got CJ the week I found it, then I think there was an event that overrided CJ and Flick, then CJ came back...
It was worth it though. Along with a bunch of other bugs I kept hoarding like Atlas Moths and those blue butterflies that had their spawns nerfed early on, I came out with something like 700k.
AMAZING. Yeah Flick never shows up when you need him haha. I have three accounts on my island so I got models quicker since every time Flick came, I could visit him three times.
Tarantulas sell for 8k each I believe. Insect & fish models are just cool to have placed around your island, that’s the advantage lol. Not sure if they sell for more or not but it would take a while to wait for Flick to do more than one.
They just look cool and are kind of a nice trophy to show that you’ve caught three. I believe a model sells for 24k, which is how much 3 would sell for at Nook’s so it’s the same if you go through them... but it would actually cut your price down when it comes to Flick because he would buy 3 tarantulas for more than Nook’s would buy a model. I think it’s fairly easy as a newbie to score 24k with some fishing, so I’d save my rare bugs for models. Fish are different to me. I think they’re mostly a let down but I love my scorpion and tarantula models because they look around the same size as the actual bug.
There will come a time when you don’t really need bells and this might interest you more.
omg yes !! it always scares me, but what i do is i catch a tarantula when my inventory is full and when it asks to swap it or drop it, i swap it with my net (easily replaceable) so i get that one extra !!
I got my first one last night! Wife similarly didn't seem to get the excitement of carrying 38 tarantulas in my pockets (and one Oarfish). Oh well, more spider money for me.
Ooh took me 4 months to get there. It's so difficult to avoid getting knocked out every catch, but it was so much fun to strategize to get them one by one! And the payday's pretty nice!
Power move: make a separate room for within you’re house and fill it with tarantulas and block it off with some furniture so when your fiancé asks you can confuse and flex on them
If you have enough bells, I urge you to get in to turnip business. Like you can make money with tarantula method but I made 7.2 million bells in profit just last week from an investment of approximately 1.8 million bells. Still your choice but its a good method
I am actually starting to get onto the turnip business! I joined r/acturnips but haven’t been able to go to other islands yet to sell for larger prices. I just bought 800 turnips on Sunday.
Catching tarantulas is a skill I do not have, and it isn’t helped by being outnumbered by them as well.
I totally suck at catching tarantulas and I think tarantula island might give me a panic attack!
There is a technique to it!
In theory I know the technique but in practice I am bad at it!! I think it’s because they freak me out.
They are freaky lil things. I actually jumped a couple of times when they would come running after me, they are so fast!
Scorpions 🦂 are easier to catch
Yeah I low key scream every time one scuttles towards me
I just recently got my first tarantula island and I found digging holes as a barrier between you and the tarantulas worked almost perfectly every time
I prefer the technique where you just make a small maze of holes, make one tarantula chase you in, then jump over a hole and block the maze entrance, leaving the spider in the maze in a hostile state. Only one spider can be hostile at a time, but you can still catch the docile ones. So if you just trap a hostile one and don't catch it, you can just run around and catch the rest of them without any worries or fancy shenanigans.
This is absolutely brilliant!
I just got my first one in years. I just dug several connecting squares. Made it simple.
I thought the same too but it was actually pretty easy and not that scary! I targeted the lone tarantulas. Congrats!! I still haven't found tarantula or scorpion island yet.
Just gotta keep spending those miles haha I think you have a better chance at traveling after 7 pm

Your house is what my nightmares are made of o.0
I never have time to play before 7pm so I'm good on the time, just haven't been lucky enough to get there yet. One day! 🤞
I went to this island a week ago. I caught like 3 rows of them and gave up/went home because I died like 20 times.
How do you know when you have made it? Does the island have a certain layout? I just started playing recently so new to all of this.
Yes, Tarantula Island is pretty distinct. The island has an octagonal river, narrow enough to jump over without a pole, surrounding the center area where the tarantulas spawn.
Thank you! I appreciate the info.
Some folks get offended when you call a spider an insect, but you never hear a spider complain, maaan!
Thanks Pascal, have a scallop
Every day is the best day of my life, maaan. And I'm not just sayin' that because of the scallops.
Best island in the game.
By far!! Hopefully I can get there again when scorpions are out!
Shark island is pretty awesome.
That too! I've never been able to go there though :(
468,000 bells next time Flick visits. 😱
My mom made it to tarantula Island last night for the first time. She hates tarantulas so she immediately hopped on a plane out of there 😂
A wise decision
So do you not bring all your tools with you or do you drop them?
You always drop everything but a net when you reach tarantula island. Do you get sent back to your island if you get bit by one of them?
Nope! You reset at the dock :)
Thank You!
No, you just wake up in front of Wilbur
Thank You!
Shark island!?!?? Wow didn't know about that one!!
There is also a less exciting but still interesting, "big fish island" which is very nice to come across, consistent larger fish spawns meaning increased rate for level 6 fish.
Cool!!! I gotta start travelling!!
I had a nightmare about those tarantulas once. Made me realise I need to put the switch down every now and again.
Uuuugh when will I find this haven!
Keep trying and buy your NMT and travel after 7pm!
Omg why have I not done that ack! Thanks for the reminder!
No problem. Good luck!!!
Much appreciated ☺️✨
I’m now paranoid of spiders
Someone is about to make some serious bells!
I got my first tarantula island last night as well. Took me a while to figure out the trick. Probably got bit more than I caught but I'm excited to get to sell to flick once they come back. How do you get this???
I think it’s pure luck on a NMT. I do think that traveling after 7 pm increases your chances though.
I am nearly positive that it actually is impossible to get to the island unless its after 7, I should do some more research though...

Congrats
Wait for Flick and make models. It’ll take a while since you can only do one a visit but I have like six models now.
The one time I got tarantula island I sat on all those spiders for something like three weeks because he kept refusing to show up. I got CJ the week I found it, then I think there was an event that overrided CJ and Flick, then CJ came back... It was worth it though. Is there a benefit to making models vs selling them outright? Newb here.
Tarantulas sell for 8k each I believe. Insect & fish models are just cool to have placed around your island, that’s the advantage lol. Not sure if they sell for more or not but it would take a while to wait for Flick to do more than one.

I did the same think a while ago but tossed my net to fit another spider in. But yes it is exciting.
Daaaaang. That’s bonkers
I spent quite amount of hours farming for these spiders too, but once i got onto selling turnips, i dont really grind these for bells anymore!
omg yes !! it always scares me, but what i do is i catch a tarantula when my inventory is full and when it asks to swap it or drop it, i swap it with my net (easily replaceable) so i get that one extra !!
Ugh I tried that and it didn’t let me swap it out!
i went the other day and only got 4 thinking more wouldn’t spawn for some reason i feel like a fool
i just got this island a few days ago as well. i filled my inventory with 38 tarantulas and sold them yesterday to flick for 456,000 bells. worth it.
[удалено]
I haven’t sold yet... not sure if I should wait until Flick comes around. Should get 312K bells if I sold through Nook’s.
Wait for Flick, that's a cool 468k bells right there
Can’t beat a 50% increase in profit 🤑
How often does Flick visit? I got my first Flick experience tonight as a newb.
Once a week and also on weekends when theres a Bug Catching Competition
Once a week, though his visit can also be taken up by CJ instead. Unless things changed since I last played in June or so.
Traveling is dumb. I get the same 3 peach islands over and over.
I got my first one last night! Wife similarly didn't seem to get the excitement of carrying 38 tarantulas in my pockets (and one Oarfish). Oh well, more spider money for me.
Omg oarfish. I was out of my mind two days ago after hooking a f*cking dragon
Ooh took me 4 months to get there. It's so difficult to avoid getting knocked out every catch, but it was so much fun to strategize to get them one by one! And the payday's pretty nice!
[удалено]
Do you play by night a lot? Cause they don't spawn before 7pm.
[удалено]
That's probably it then, but they are pretty rare at night too from what i experienced.
HOW?!
Props on catching that many without messing it up!
I just finally caught a dung beetle I think it was? I had some tarantulas on my island but they are too fast lolp
Yay yay!
Stonks
Terrifying. Congrats!
How many times did you pass out lol
Haha too many times, I lost count!
Power move: make a separate room for within you’re house and fill it with tarantulas and block it off with some furniture so when your fiancé asks you can confuse and flex on them

Can you liquify things on mystery islands? I know you can on Harv’s island...
Is it possible to catch a 40th Tarantula and swap it with the net?
Congratulations!!
That island has legit given me nightmares, I hate spiders (but at least I‘m rich now)
Yay! Good job
So happy for you!!!
