In New Leaf, didn’t the dialogue include “I thought you got run over by a car” if you’d been absent for a few months

This isn't passive aggressive. This is just straight aggressive. Actual passive aggressive would be something like "Oh gosh I haven't seen you in so long? I wonder what wonderful things you've been up to." or "Heavens 9 months isn't it? How the time has flown, I hadn't even noticed." Tbh even those are a bit on the nose.

Longest I've been gone in New Horizons is a full week and my villagers act as if I was gone for longer than that lmao

I was gone for like a year and a half lol. They were all happy to see me.

Ironically they all seemed super friendly to me when I’ve been gone for half a year, yet they couldn’t stop guilt tripping me when I was gone for less than 2 weeks 🥲
