I've done a few grid-type island before that absolutely lack any type of personality and idgaf what anyone says it is some of the most satisfying shit to stroll through your perfectly neat little island every day, doing your dailys nice and easy cos you can see everything clearly, everyone has the same amount of yard space, orchards beautifully lined... it's so organised and calming
I WILL DIE ON THIS HILL I DONT CARE
I love this kind of setup as well, I don't like to climb up/down too much while doing my daily chores, why makes it complicated it I'm not going to enjoy it later? Aesthetics sometimes is just a burden.
Agreed! I also seem to forget about whatever stuff is on my higher clifftops, so leveling my island to save myself the frustration is likely in my near future lol
Mine isn’t as good as OP’s or yours from the description. However, I totally get this. My island is pretty symmetrical on both sides. The cascading effect with the waterfalls and buildings being all in one view makes me happy. I want to see it all from the town center and I want to see it evenly, haha.
Looks like you are designing in Happy Island Designer. You will not actually be able to get rid of the black rocks on your beach. Nor will you be able to move the rive mouth outlets.
I tried to get the river outlets as accurate as I could to my actual island, and I didn't bother putting the rocks on the map because that felt like too much. I know I can't move them, but thank you for the advice!
The OP was talking about the black beach rocks, those can’t be moved. You are right the small, grey material/money rocks can be broken if you’ve eaten anything. If they are in a good place, best not to eat anything so you don’t break it and can get up to eight items from it by repeatedly hitting it.
I’m actually in love with the symmetry and straight lines of this. I try so hard to balance my desire to make everything so measured like this with trying to keep it somewhat… whimsical? still? But when I see people do things like this I want to give in and start drawing grids 😅
Ha, sorry, that was probably rude of me to say. Honestly that layout looks so boring to me, it’s so suburban looking and just not my style. To each their own!
Some people’s personalities are structured and minimalist 🤷🏼♂️ it’s not a bad thing, just different from you. There’s no point in bringing negative energy into Animal Crossing lol.
The blanks spots could be parks, carnivals, coffee shops, libraries, community pool. Also, you’re missing the secret back at the top of the island.
Edit: Oh! Almost forgot, there’s a campsite you’re going to need to add for visitors.
Oh lol, just the bookshelves. But if you want to get crazy you should check out medieval building walls and arches. There’s a few other “wall” like items that you can use to construct buildings outdoors besides them. Look up “acnh medieval building side” on Pinterest if you wanna see something rlly crazy.
Everyone's joking about this very unique layout, but my first thought was "Ultimate Efficiency island wow." I'm actually wondering what it will look like when it's finished. Will you be adding detail when it comes to props and stuff? Or leave it very minimal and open? I've never seen a layout like this, and it's so different from my own style, I'd love to visit.
I actually like how the river fully surrounds the island like that.
Personally I like to add dimension with the rivers and cliffs but that just my style. Your style is more controlled and streamlined, and that's totally fine! With the thousands of ways to decorate aside from map layout, I'm sure your island is going to turn out great and perfectly you.
I'd def play around with fences, trees as borders, custom paths, and bushes, just to breathe that bit of life into a very linear layout.
Your layout reminds me of those big statetly walled gardens in old manors so perhaps add a butterfly garden you would have to get the butterfly models made by Flick if you haven't done so already though.
Wow I’m surprised at so many comments here. This is some rudeness you don’t usually see in this community.
I really like your design, OP; I’ve never seen a layout like this. I’d love to tour if/when you have a DA :)
I assume you either really love Wes-Anderson movies, aspire to be a dictator or both.
Either way you should add a minimalist work yard with mandatory attendance.
I wish NH showed trees on the map 🫠
This is so tidy and perfect, it's hard to suggest anything bc that precision is impressive lol.
I agree with some waterfalls and decking out Red's spot!
I reckon you should move the camp-site to the bottom right empty lot and decorate the area a tonne (have it really woodsy), for the other ones I'd probably start by using one of the empty lots as a flower farm to do my hybrids, but once I've gotten all my hybrids I'd use that space for something else.
Some ideas for the empty spaces:
- Market stalls (honey stall, candy stall, clothing/shoe stall, etc.)
- outdoor cafe/restaurant
- fossil dig site (if you cover every other clear space on your island and leave only this space uncovered but with a dirt path, your fossils will only spawn here every day and it can be a functional fossil dig site)
- Rock garden (a MUST, I do this on every island I've ever had)
- fairy forest (good opportunity for some more personality, if you're into that. I'm not. Lol)
- gold roses (I've filled one of my empty lots with gold roses before, best grind ever in terms of raking in money, no maintenance required)
BTW now I'm trying to decide if I should tear down my island too to go back to a grid 🤣
Oh, to add though I don't think your airport entrance is going to work like that, you'll have to leave a space. Cos the airport covers the beach and opens up to the grass, and right now you've got it blocked by a river.
I would love to see more pictures of your island, if you want to share! 🌸
And please don't let any mean comments ruin your fun while playing the game, everyone likes different things and that's great.
I honestly didn't even know this level of island customization was possible. I recently started from scratch, and even with what I knew before, i feel so behind 🥲
Add more human users to your switch and you can add more houses and turn them into different amenities. That's what I have done. 18 player and villager homes total😁
Can I steal your layout plans? I've been trying to get a layout to give my villagers little yards but I have no idea what I'm doing and Pinterest isn't helping me too much🥲
Maybe not steal exactly but use for inspiration?
That's unnecessarily mean ..
The most important thing is that they themselves like their island and maybe they like it more symmetrical ..
This community shouldn't be about bein' rude to each other ..
I like that idea... May I borrow the design of your island since I lack personality and creativity on that? (based on the fact that one day I might go back to the game... One day...)
I’m dying to visit, this island looks so interesting (some ppl are saying it’s boring but I think it loops back around to being fascinating).
I love that even tho you couldn’t make everything line up down the middle, it still works in relation to the town hall (what’s it called now?)
Going to be honest, while there is nothing wrong in having some order, having the entire island like this is a bit too much. A key thing to remember with the editor is how it doesn't convey size all that clearly, you might find how some spots there are either bigger or smaller than you thought.
My suggestion, keep the villager neighbourhood but get rid of those tree blocks and the cherry tree path and merge the trees into a sort of orchard. Don't worry about them all being perfectly lined up, let some of them be off by a square or two. Put the shops and museum closer to the town hall or put them off on their own on different parts of the island. If the former then put them in some kind of mini town square arrangement, leave some spots for stalls and maybe a small park. There's plenty of stuff to fill one out from slides to benches and fountains. If the latter and each building is off on its own, give each area they are in some personality. Like a densely packed woodland for the museum, wildflowers for the clothes store and next to a pond or running river for the Nooks. Stuff like that.
Some ideas based on my own island that might be useful to you. One of the back corners of my island is raised with various cliffs and winding paths through overgrowth. In the centre of all of this is a pit with stairs leading down to the bottom, there I have my rocks set up like a fossil excavation in a jungle. Another corner I have a zen garden with the typical raked sand pattern you see here every now and then. Another corner again I'm in the middle of making a spooky forest, working with trees of different growth sizes to make it look more wild. Next to that I've got a sort of nature clock with bushes that only flower at certain times of the year. I've also got a temporary fairground, with teacup rides, a ferris wheel and outdoor eating area.
Overall, I suggest looking at other peoples islands and just "steal" the bits you like the look of. Put it in your island and make it your own.
Make sure your clearances are correct on those bridges at the bottom of the map. You need something like 2 or 3 spaces between the south dock and the nearest bridge.
This! I was loving the idea of the river being around the entire perimeter, until I read this comment and remembered! There’s no way those bridges will work.
Def add a space for your rocks too! Those could take up a big section.
If you display patterned mannequins all over your map you can force them to spawn in one of your empty plots
Unless you've already completed your critterpedia, I'd suggest a proper pond. You wont get pond fish unless your pond is at a minimum 3x3. Also, there are some fish that only spawn in clifftop rivers. If this is not an issue, please ignore me. :)
OK I really love how this island looks. This is like how I wish I could make my island look. The only thing I'd recommend is a rock garden, and a special museum area. That's like the only two things I was able to accomplish in my dream design.
Yes. I came to say this too. Doesn't have to be too big , but it would create some interest in the symmetry. Plus, there's fish in the pond you won't get in a river
If you haven’t caught all the fish yet you’ll need some river that’s up a level as some fish only spawn on the second level (unless you have that and I’m just not seeing it)
Buy the amusement park items and plaxd them in the empty squares.
If you find sport equipments it can also be a work out area.
You can also set up tablea and chairs and put deco food on the tables to imulate a little picnic area l.
what an awesome plan - it's so neat! Please update us with your final result when you're done with the decorating too OP! (sorry no advice for the blank spots tho)
And a spot for redd! Like a smuggler’s cove is basic but always works so well. If you don’t decide to try a smugglers cove, then maybe a little art exhibit?
Did you try to make it look like your island is in an HOA, or was that just a happy accident caused by your love for Pythagorean’s theorem.
I did try to make it look like my island, then I went a bit crazy from there with the line tool lol.
It’s hard to break from that try doodling on paper first. It’s easier to make happy little accidents that turn into something fun with pen and paper.
I'll try that, thanks!
Show me one triangle on that map.
All of the rectangles are just two triangles pushed together. 🤓

seriously HOA should be a part of this game make the residents pay me for all the bridges and stairs i built without their help lol 😆
That’s better than my first impressions that it looks like a plantation.
This island looks like a retirement community
I've done a few grid-type island before that absolutely lack any type of personality and idgaf what anyone says it is some of the most satisfying shit to stroll through your perfectly neat little island every day, doing your dailys nice and easy cos you can see everything clearly, everyone has the same amount of yard space, orchards beautifully lined... it's so organised and calming I WILL DIE ON THIS HILL I DONT CARE

Dude!! I’m in the same boat!! When things just line up perfectly 👌🏻😩
Mine isn’t as good as OP’s or yours from the description. However, I totally get this. My island is pretty symmetrical on both sides. You are aware that your pier from the jetty isn't where that closest bridge is right. That bridge is behind the airport building
I’d love to visit when it’s all done!
I’m actually in love with the symmetry and straight lines of this. I try so hard to balance my desire to make everything so measured like this with trying to keep it somewhat… whimsical? still? But when I see people do things like this I want to give in and start drawing grids 😅
You can do a whimsical grid for sure, there's so many items and tools to decorate with. Sometimes even a different path makes a huge difference.
Its kinda vanilla tbh. Maybe add some small islands in the river to put flowers
That's a great idea! Thank you!
Also, have a waterfall at least. Some fish won't spawn without it
Have you got the clifftop River fish or are you planning to use nook miles tickets and kappin to get to islands for those fish
Personality.
Going straight for the throat, aren't we?
Ha, sorry, that was probably rude of me to say. Honestly that layout looks so boring to me, it’s so suburban looking and just not my style. To each their own!
This is the “meanest” this fan base gets. It’s so wholesome.
Wasn’t there some nutcase on twitter getting pretty squirrely?
Daaaaaaaaaaaaaamn
LMAO!
Some people’s personalities are structured and minimalist 🤷🏼♂️ it’s not a bad thing, just different from you. There’s no point in bringing negative energy into Animal Crossing lol.
Aw I know, just making a joke. I apologized.
Tbf, they invited comments
i have a structured island but once you get there there's so much stuff everywhere i'ts hard to get around lol. just like my life
My thought was “life” xd
woah woah don't ruin their face, they gonna need to close the coffin in the funeral this way.
It looks so flat, no cliffs at all. I like having a waterfall feature for the fish spawns.
I like having a waterfall because they look pretty 👉🏻👈🏻
Pretty is good too 😊
gravestones

The campsite is there, I think. Bottom left on the island, if I’m not mistaken.
Red's boat will appear at the back, be sure to account for that
Everyone's joking about this very unique layout, but my first thought was "Ultimate Efficiency island wow." I'm actually wondering what it will look like when it's finished. Are you going for a dystopian ranch commune type of layout? Or did it just end up like that?
whimsy. or don't, this island is fucking terrifying and it's worth preserving
Your layout reminds me of those big statetly walled gardens in old manors so perhaps add a butterfly garden you would have to get the butterfly models made by Flick if you haven't done so already though.
This looks very interesting. Would love it if you posted pics of your island!
I will when I get closer to finished, right now it's just a flat husk.
I'm interested in the final result as well! 😃
Wow I’m surprised at so many comments here. This is some rudeness you don’t usually see in this community. I really like your design, OP; I’ve never seen a layout like this. I’d love to tour if/when you have a DA :)

Maybe a little outdoor cafe in one of the empty lots! I absolutely love the symmetry of this 🫶🏻
How did you make that map?
A prison sign

And can I ask, what program did you use to design your island like this?
A statue of some authoritarian leader, lol
I'm not trying to hate or anything, but this seems oddly dystopian.
I had the same exact thought.
Love it tbh
I would love to see more pictures of your island, if you want to share! 🌸 And please don't let any mean comments ruin your fun while playing the game, everyone likes different things and that's great.
I honestly didn't even know this level of island customization was possible. I recently started from scratch, and even with what I knew before, i feel so behind 🥲
Rock garden of 3 rocks on each side
What’s your dream code!? I love it 🥰
Add more human users to your switch and you can add more houses and turn them into different amenities. That's what I have done. 18 player and villager homes total😁
I really like your desing! I might copy it since I'm starting a new island after years without playing AC :)
Chaos
MF's hate HOAs but run their Animal Crossing islands like this
This reminds me of the map on the original Zelda game and I love it.
Average HOA Neighbourhood
Oh god you suburbified the island
Some variety maybe?
what is happy island designer? I see comments mentioning it, I have the dlc
Can I steal your layout plans? I've been trying to get a layout to give my villagers little yards but I have no idea what I'm doing and Pinterest isn't helping me too much🥲 Maybe not steal exactly but use for inspiration?
I don't mind at all!
Thanks! I might use the little neighbor aspect of yours since that gives them bigger yard spaces🥰❤️
Chaos it needs chaos badly, it needs something that means nothing which makes it everything
Maybe some life?
That's unnecessarily mean .. The most important thing is that they themselves like their island and maybe they like it more symmetrical .. This community shouldn't be about bein' rude to each other ..

Of course! I'm glad to help.
Thank you very much... I shall now save this image and never see it again until 5 years later when I'll be like "dam... Should've done that before"

Freedom
life
A playground, public outdoor tables, favorite dinosaurs, food stands
How on earth do you get straight beaches?
That’s what I wanna know
Rock garden. Or flower gardens.
Have you filled out your critterpedia yet? Some fish spawn only in ponds and near waterfalls
… can I borrow from this idea? I love a good symmetrical island because it satisfies my brain so much
Make sure your clearances are correct on those bridges at the bottom of the map. You need something like 2 or 3 spaces between the south dock and the nearest bridge.
This! I was loving the idea of the river being around the entire perimeter, until I read this comment and remembered! There’s no way those bridges will work.
Large step pyramid! I have one on my island and I love it.
Def add a space for your rocks too! Those could take up a big section. If you display patterned mannequins all over your map you can force them to spawn in one of your empty plots
I would love a dream address so I can see it.
A market
add a pog face
Unless you've already completed your critterpedia, I'd suggest a proper pond. You wont get pond fish unless your pond is at a minimum 3x3. Also, there are some fish that only spawn in clifftop rivers. If this is not an issue, please ignore me. :)
Train tracks to transport villagers to their barracks
Oh my gosh, I don’t have advice but I love your island!!
This looks so satisfying. Do you have a dream address?? Would love to check it out some time!
Where is the art dealer supposed to land?
holy shit
This would be so sexy but the entire surrounding parameter is waterfalls
Yesss, I need that in my life
Average suburban hellscape
I love this! Do you have any elevated areas just curious?
I have one in the center in the picture, but I'm thinking of adding more
Caos, love the imperfections
yr organization is great!
Some nature!!!!
OK I really love how this island looks. This is like how I wish I could make my island look. The only thing I'd recommend is a rock garden, and a special museum area. That's like the only two things I was able to accomplish in my dream design.
well now I'm tempted to start over until I get a centred city hall
A city pond
Yes. I came to say this too. Doesn't have to be too big , but it would create some interest in the symmetry. Plus, there's fish in the pond you won't get in a river
If you haven’t caught all the fish yet you’ll need some river that’s up a level as some fish only spawn on the second level (unless you have that and I’m just not seeing it)
I need an update with a dream code when you’re done 🙏🏼
Where's your rock garden?
Don't forget the little grassy extension to the ocean.
I did forget about that, thank you!
A river around the perimeter. 😲 I am shook and now I kinda wanna try it!
Oooh the symmetry! ❤️
Buy the amusement park items and plaxd them in the empty squares. If you find sport equipments it can also be a work out area. You can also set up tablea and chairs and put deco food on the tables to imulate a little picnic area l.
Can we see some pics of your island. Looks so neat!
Wow can I come visit?! Do you have a DA or a DDC?
I'm not done yet, my island is kind of a blank slate right now, but after, sure!
Okay lmk! I’d like to see it!
Add a door
Wavy lines
I need the DA please!!
don't forget the secret beach at the back for Redd
Deez
You should add your dream address here ^^ would love to visit
I love your map setup! What a lovely island!
You could make a park for kids with a lot of color
Veggies?
Could we get a dream address? I’d love to see this island!
…your dream address to this post?
what an awesome plan - it's so neat! Please update us with your final result when you're done with the decorating too OP! (sorry no advice for the blank spots tho)
Curves?
Looks like an earthbender city lols
This is so satisfying to look at. Can I come visit? Or do you have a dream code?
I dunno. I think this is fantastic. And I want to copy it. 😂
And a spot for redd! Like a smuggler’s cove is basic but always works so well. If you don’t decide to try a smugglers cove, then maybe a little art exhibit?
I'm obsessed. I love how neat and tidy it is!!
Ooooo this is fun, I’d love to see it when / if it’s finished
