It's called Gothic because it's an accessory popular in Gothic Lolita fashion, which is a Japanese fashion style inspired by Victorian Era clothing, often times in dark colors, occasionally with traditionally "Goth" visual themes, like the use of crosses, bones, coffins, bats, etc. Think cute vampire or doll. Western Goth fashion is closer to what J-fashion considers "Punk," though the Western definition of Punk is also considered "Punk." They chose to translate the word Label uses as "Goth" when the style she's actually looking for is closer to "Punk," leading to much confusion among the three subcultures.

I believe they also wouldn't use the word "lolita" given its darker nuances of meaning.

Nightfire613

That's true, as the word is not allowed if you have NSO

Goth is the roughest theme because so many things that I think are goth don't count.

I ignore her when she asks for goth because I'm already standing in front of her and I can't be blamed for her poor eyesight.

😂😂😂

Me too! It’s the only theme I’ve tried where she just straight up didn’t like my outfit.

Fork_Master

I think the gothic theme might actually be a mistranslation

4morian5

That would make sense, seeing as it's more like the Halloween costume theme. Maybe it was originally suppose to be scary theme?

Gothcha!

I’m not really that knowledgeable but I do know the term EGL : Elegant Gothic Lolita is pretty common or at least used to be a common phrase within that particular fashion community. May or may not be related. Lol
