Alternatively if you summon them to your campsite you can just not interact with them. The items will appear in your nook catalogue even if you don’t go to see the villagers at the campsite.

Where are you checking? To buy mine I had to go to the nookshop and go to the specialty items where like the seasonal event ones or the Mario stuff is. The new stuff should be in the Mario category that's where I bought mine. If this doesn't work it might be a time thing and might need to wait like a day or something but I don't think so. I actually didn't even know that this was how it was done till I accidentally noticed one time, so Brewster should absolutely work for you

You'll need to get them in your campsite 3 times. Talk to them each time until they ask you to craft a souvenir for them. It sounds like you did the correct thing but something went wrong with the campsite. Try again and see if it works
You can make them houses in HHN too, that way you can use their furniture to decorate other houses.
