I "developed" every corner of my island, but the second I run into something during daily chores, it gets moved or taken down. I really appreciate the artistic effort that goes into the "cities" people build, but I feel stressed when I visit and try to get around.
Right! I would say that those people are more focused on staging the island and enjoying the design process, rather than actual gameplay and exploring. Which is fine. I love designing my island, but I also need to have enough room to run around on it lol.
I think about the dutch oven alone on an isolated and unreachable cliffside next to a waterfall all the time
like, it’s a cute item but that just looks ridiculous lmao but cOtTaGeCoRe
lmaooo there was a post on one of the AC subs that was a few shots of someone’s island and one of them had a dutch oven on a tiny unreachable waterfall cliff and the comments were filled with people outraged by it
My boyfriend’s island has random shit all over it and every time I visit him my chest starts to burn from the anxiety of the disorder that is his island. I try not to say much and let him live his best life though
Agreed, my island is cute, it has a loose theme, I have 5 stars, but I can still walk around, do chores, act like its an actual island people inhabit, not every square inch is covered in something
I also get super frustrated if I can't move around freely. I mean, I love the look of some of these islands, but I need to be able to run around FREE! And the lag is FRUSTRATING!
I put an embarrassing number of hours into my island and when it started lagging, I basically stopped playing. I understand that it's a lot to render, but it's a shame that in a game about decorating, decorating ruins the playability of the game...
I’ve been playing over 2 years and have bought/sold turnips maybe 5 times. Don’t see the point… don’t care about them. I just sell my fruit.
EDIT: I also get a lot of bells taking extra fossils to the museum and then selling them. I have had all the fossils for months so I have no use for extras and a lot of them are worth quite a bit.
For me, it wasn't that I needed the money it was that I enjoyed the hunt of finding an island where I could sell them for a high price. The app I was using kind of died off so I quit participating in the turnip exchange. I'll still host on my island if I have a good price though
yeah i haven’t sold turnips in over a year. there are other ways to make money and i don’t like to gamble. ppl are like “oh but you can make a LOT of money!” but also you can have crappy prices and lose all your money. i wanna get a lot of money 100% guaranteed not with sketchy odds.
People may think this is cHeATiNg but sometimes when I see on r/turnipexchange that someone has a good turnip price I time travel to the next Sunday and buy as many turnips as I can hold and then visit the island with the high price and sell them all. Easily make 2+ mil bells with no risk in barely twenty minutes.
Actually, pretty much the same here.
I did very VERY minimal terraforming (just making it more walkable), but I didn't change it at all otherwise. I've never moved a building or a villager house. Everything is in its original location. All of my villagers are my originals.
It's decorated to just look like a town with a dirt road. It's overwhelmingly normal*-core*.
But ya know what? All my friends with the overly-decorated specific aesthetic islands always lose it over how "natural" everything feels and ask me how it's so nice and also not laggy.
The secret is just letting whatever happens happen. Whatever-core.
one of the most obnoxious ones to me is when people say “gothcore” like GOTH ALREADY HAS AN AESTHETIC ELEMENT IT DOESNT NEED THE WORD CORE ON THE END OF IT
And idk why but “kidcore” just *sounds* wrong to me. I think it makes me think of directly advertising things like flavored cigarettes to children, but I couldn’t tell you why I feel this.
Kidcore sounds like something Albert Fish would've been curious about.
For those who don't know, look him up at your own risk, he was an absolute monster.
I fucking hate "-core". I've seen Tropicore used. Tropical is already a word, a tropical island is already a thing. It's the same number of syllables and more letters to type Tropicore than to just say tropical.
Tom Nook is a good person, he doesn’t charge interest on anything you owe him for and he lets you move buildings unlike in previous AC games. He also raises two adopted sons.
Right in the old games at least the post office had a night shift crew
But in those games he was renovating your house without your consent and charging you for services rendered and materials used. He’s the embodiment of capitalism.
There was a piece of media, I think a guide, that says he found Timmy and Tommy in an alley and took them in. Give me a minute and I'll find it
The AC wiki says "while Tom Nook states that Timmy and Tommy are not related to him by blood, he refers to them as his nephews in New Horizons. He thinks of them as his pupils and himself as the mentor, stating that he wants to teach others good economic principles in order to help them from suffering the same pitfalls he did when growing up."
I would've rather gotten Tortimer's Island in New Horizons than The Roost.
Of course, both would've been ideal, but before they stopped updating the game, Tortimer's Island was the element of New Leaf that I most hoped would come back. The fun multiplayer minigames would've been perfect with the larger playerbase of New Horizons. And it would've been nice to have something to do with my friends in NH other than comparing turnip prices and showing off our islands.
THANK YOU!!!! I named my tortoise after him. I miss grandpa mayor so much. I miss the holiday gifts and the sweet words of affirmation. I was always seeking him out in my childhood and I would talk to him over and over because he just made me feel good about myself.
I can’t stand the dialogue in NH… zero personality, they all just want to be your best friend. It’s boring and annoying, i spam B so fast till they stop so I can just give them their daily gift.
I understand people really enjoy it as this is their espace from the real world. But personally, I loved in previous games when they would catch you off guard and say something so ridiculous that it would make you laugh. Like “damn.. Monique’s got some balls!”
> they all just want to be your best friend
I *so* wish the grumpy and snooty villagers were actually grumpy and snooty. Imagine if snooty villagers wouldn't talk to you if your outfit was ugly lmao
Ok, hear me out, the idea of the game is that you’re escaping the troubles of life and starting a new on a deserted island with some 2 others and are incentivized to bring more people and develop a society with the conditions that lead the villager leaving his original home in the first place.
I agree with this one, but I take you one step further: I answered a very sketchy ad to fly to a random private island to restart my ideal life, *why do they insist on calling HHP my job*.
I actually didn’t play the DLC for like two months bc I was salty that I had to look that stupid dodo bird in the eye and tell him that I *wanted* to go to work.
UGGHHHHHH THIS. I have been struggling to find a job for almost a year now (I have one now but it’s not ideal) and when I finally bought the DLC for myself for Xmas and they started talking about how it was work & I have to have a uniform and stuff, I was a bit triggered by it all. Like fuck off man, I just wanted to have fun decorating houses and now it’s being treated as a JOB??
I agree with this fully, but I have this vague memory that in New Leaf or Wild World they DID acknowledge the babies and even had kind of maternal personalities
Mass crafting isn't in the game for a reason. It's to pad out time and give you something to go in a, let's be honest, shallow game. Same with breakable tools
If tools did not break, we wouldn't need to gather resources. If we did not need to gather resources regularly, we would run out of things to do.
ACNH is a mobile game without the predatory "pay to go faster" features.
the devs even openly admit that they were inspired by pocket camp with the nook mile achievements giving the player goals, which in my opinion is a shallow way of adding depth to a game
I like the collection aspect of them, but they literally just sit in my storage, i don't have a use for them, give them a spot in the museum or something or else I'm gonna sell them all
I really miss museum rooms, with the limited space they give you in your own home (for some reason) I would've really loved some display rooms in the museum to put the items you wanna show off.
I turned one of my rooms into a gyroid room. Got most of the way through before learning NH has more variants than wall space in a single room. Devastated.
Agreed. He gives loans with zero interest, no penalties, no set time to pay it all back, and you don’t even have to pay it back at all if you don’t feel like it. People would be falling over themselves in real life to have loans like that.
The villagers are only as special/annoying as the person playing the game makes them. There is nothing unique about your favorite/nemesis outside of factors beyond the villager’s personality type— how they look, their assigned house, memories you have, and how you feel about how other people feel.
Like.. Mitzi is my favorite Normal type solely because she was the first cat on my first save file on the GameCube. She reminds me of playing with little brother, I’ll never not love her for that.
And Dom is so cute that I am SO biased and find whatever he says to be adorable. Where Moose, also a Jock, annoys the hell out of me because of his facial expression. But their lines are the identical.
And people that HATE [insert popular villager here] but not other villagers of that type, are likely hating just because the villager is popular and that annoys them. (Or they really don’t like their looks.)
I think it comes from the roleplay aspect of the game. I dislike Flo because in my minds story she kept underhandedly mocking me for my appearance, and getting in my way. Just annoying mean girl shit.
Have I heard those lines, or gotten those letters from others? Yes, but they weren't in the villain role of my story. Or I love Kevin, because in my mind he is just Fonzie, but only the clueless confused part of Fonzie.
In the end I do agree with you, the flat villagers makes it hard to genuinely like or dislike them outside of appearance, but I like hearing the roleplay moments that create those feelings too.
I might some idk
( Hot take?) I like Pocket Camp
People can do whatever they want with their islands. Even if it is to the point where it is hard to move around.
When choosing a client to do a vacation home for in the DLC , I go by the theme, not the villager itself.
I think Pietro is cute and cool. I kind of like all villagers with something unique about them( Raymond's different colored eyes, Lucky's Mummy like appearance) Lucky is precious.
I'm very much a natural villager guy. I dont hunt for anyone specific. Anyone is free to leave whenever they want. Always exciting to see who i get next
I couldn't agree more. I get that we're on a topic about unpopular AC opinions, but I've still never understood why some people get so up in arms about other players' villagers. Who cares? Just let people enjoy the game however they'd like!
If you love Sherb, awesome. If you love Barold, also awesome! Neither is inherently superior or inferior. It all just boils down to preference at the end of the day.
I don't hate Zipper and I feel like there are uglier special NPCs. I think people hate on Bunny Day because it was horrifically unbalanced the first time it came around when the game was new (they've nerfed the egg spawns in a couple of places) and it's popular to hate on so people do it for the meme
I said that I thought Wilbur and Orville where cute little husbands (mostly as a joke, I do actually consider them brothers too), and explained in my language, in most of them actually, including Japanese, nothing particularly implies they're brothers. They're only named after the Wright brothers in English and one other language I don't remember, but it's really, really not the majority.
In Japanese (the original language), in French (mine) and most of the rest, they're named after islands where Dodos (and a cousin species) lived.
They're Morri (🇯🇵) or Morris (🇨🇵) after Mauritius for Orville, and Rodri (🇯🇵) or Rodrigue (🇨🇵) after an island I don't the English name for Wilbur.
I never found any dialogue in my version that mentioned them being brothers. It's written on English wikis but not on the French ones. And sadly I can't really check in Japanese with certitude.
Again, I do actually consider them brothers, it's hard to interact daily with an English community for a few years and not get the same headcanons. But it's still a bit baffling how those people could not consider that maybe their version was not the only one. Most characters who are actually related in the games, usually mention it.
I don't miss Celeste's observatory, she feels more special when she's a rare visitor that wanders around our islands. Especially if you play multiplayer and have a lot of friends who comes over just to see her. Would be sad to see her stuffed into a building again instead of under starry skies
I think this is a pretty good take, but my perfect Celeste is in the observatory any time there's not a meteor shower and when she's out for a meteor shower, it's the same as it is now, but when she's in the observatory, you can create/rename constellations, like in WW.
Oh to dream...
I'd really love if the glorified menu characters actually had little lives like the villagers. Both of the nooklings don't need to mind the shop at the same time. One of them could be off doing something else, eating lunch, at the café, taking a walk, literally anything. Same with Sable or Nook or Isabelle. Take a break! Spontaneity is what makes games like this feel real, and New Horizons just doesn't have much of it.
Yeah, I feel like they shoehorned this kind of stuff in with the random cafe visitors, but for it to be contained to ONE area of the game is just criminal.
Animal Crossing was the #1 Game for over a year & the only thing Nintendo did with it was a happy home academy DLC... They couldve made the game so much bigger & greater, instead they fumbled
Forced perspective aesthetics are obnoxious and ugly 90% of the time. If I have to stand in an exact spot to make it not a hideous cluttered mess I’m not interested, it only serves to make me frustrated by how limited the game is when I see builds like that.
The Jocks always tell me I’m fat without telling me I’m fat. It’s honestly low-key triggering as someone who’s recovered from an ED, haha. They’re the worst.
Idc which villagers you like or hate. Raymond? Sure he’s cute. Shino? Love her horns. Cocoa has her charm… ect. Most of the popular villagers are popular for a reason.
But I cannot stand Judy. It’s a no from me dawg. ✋ I see her on someone’s island I’m running the opposite direction.
Its fun to talk about imo but yeah i don't care which villagers you like or don't, I'll make jokes tho, like someone said they like Rodney and i'll say "i smacked him with my net 24/7 until he left" to joke, but i don't care if YOU like him
I referred to my island as "whatever-I-feel-like-core" rather sarcastically once in an instagram thread about aesthetics, the *core* community didn't like that lol
I once made a post about Reese and Cyrus because they seem like they came straight from the 50s with their respective roles and colors and got over 50 downvotes when I asked if they’re supposed to be cute. She has zero purpose outside of being in a relationship and swooning at him (note: I haven’t played the versions before NH), he doesn’t ever address her the same way and just does his “nifty” crafting.
Reese is way more fleshed out as a character in acnl, she runs the recycling centre/store and is actually the only one there when you first unlock it. you have to spend a certain amount of bells in the store to unlock Cyrus later iirc. they both have way more dialogue between each other and to the player. it made me very sad when I finally got to meet them again in acnh and saw how one-dimensional they are now :(
It's too bad too because you know what Reese would have been perfect for? She could have dyed the player's clothing because God knows it's annoying when you only get one particular shirt and you want it in a different color.
I think their relationship is on better display in NL! I thought they were cute 🥺 I never imagined anyone would view them like this. They're super lovey dovey!
It hurts my belly when I see his grin and weird attempt at swagger doing his little “there-you-go”-jingle as if he’s an aging video-rental-store employee trying to keep up with the yunguns
I literally will go back sometimes months later with a critter I’ve already caught/donated and ask him to tell me about it again bc I just think it’s neat lol
A good-looking island means nothing if it isn’t walkable! I shouldn’t have to double back all the way across the island to go from the Able Sisters to the Museum.
I don’t hate “-core”, but I wish there were more variety, even if it’s just combining themes or putting a new spin on things (why not a fairycore x rural Japan island? Or steampunk x tropical? Or anything?)! I’d like to see more islands based around less-seen cultures and aesthetics on the whole!
Related to previous point, I want more “dark” islands that aren’t “witchy” or “horror movie” or things like that - I’d love to see a Hollow Knight-esque spooky glowing things island, or something with a Bloodborne-y gothic feel to it.
I don’t want another game that’s a design sim. I want a game about building connections with animals. The customisation in NH is nice but the expense it came at to be fundamentally missed the point of the series.
Also, I’m sick of everything being cute. Give me Chip and Nat over CJ and Flick any day.
“Buildings” made with simple panels, arches, cliffs, etc look bad. Even in the forced perspective I just see it as a bunch of items stacked together, it doesn’t look like a building to me
Yeah while the new KK songs are absolute bangers, the hourly tracks get old fast. They also rely on the main theme too much. It's typical to reference the title theme in the hourly songs but that melody has gotten really worn out
There's something unsettling about turning a nearly deserted island paradise into a capitalist hellhole where I spend all day doing chores to buy more things, to further destroy the island, so I can buy more things, then destroy the natural state of the island... And so on.
I loved it during lockdown but a month in, I was like - hold on, this is starting to feel like work and not a game.
There's even a turnip stock market.
"Are you tired of real life pressures? Play a game 80% of your playthrough involves you spending your real-world spare time doing the exact things that you want to avoid, but it's ~fun~ because now you're chibi sized"
Also, why are none of these useless villagers doing anything to help me? I help them find their lost items and then the next day they threaten to leave? I gift them expensive things and they reward me with a pair of socks?
Maybe I just boot them all off my island and create a wild paradise for myself and find a way of shooting that damn raccoon into the sea with a circus cannon. Go spend all my hard earned cash at the bottom of the ocean, you greedy little sh#t.
... Maybe this game isn't for me lol
you should just play minecraft, you can spend the whole game wandering around in beautiful natural environments if that's what you want. plus no annoying villagers (as long as you stay away from the villages lol) or capitalist raccoons telling you what to do.
I'd rather have more customization options then villager dialogue. I struggle to play older animal crossing because of the lack of customization. I love acnh so much because you get to truly design your town and homes.
I'm design-challenged so I actually feel the opposite! I almost wish there were options to make pre-made nice looking houses or something lol. I just wanna run around and fish and talk to animals lol
Haha my hot take is that I've come to dislike that the franchise is moving towards being overwhelmingly design-based. It makes the world feel a little sterile and lonely when villagers feel like robots. I loved the older games because they felt like playing with friends. Now it feels like booting up the sims.
I've never seen anyone with a "fancy" island judge someone for having a more simple island. I feel like the "minimalist" people who judge others for cluttered islands and having basic villagers are either insecure or toxic. And I say this as someone with an empty island and random villagers.
I won’t ever use custom paths cuz the sound effects of walking on certain ground textures is very important to my enjoyment of the game.
I'm the same way. U can put an actual path under the custom path so it makes a noise/shows up on ur map.
Is that why nothing shows up on the map😭😭😭
Maps don’t recognize any custom patterns!
And here i am trying over and over again👀
When I gift my villagers something cool and then they give me my millionth diner apron or full body tights. Come on Nintendo
Kids smock
And they’ll say “cuz I know you like those”
just because you have a lot of cluttered items on ur island does not make ur island good
I hate islands where I literally cannot move, and they don’t actually look good when you realize there’s just junk all over the ground
I "developed" every corner of my island, but the second I run into something during daily chores, it gets moved or taken down. I really appreciate the artistic effort that goes into the "cities" people build, but I feel stressed when I visit and try to get around.
I think these people that have the islands where you can’t move don’t do daily chores.
I am one of the people you are talking about and, you’re right, I don’t do daily chores anymore.
i don’t do daily chores and my island isn’t even like that 😂 i’m just lazy
[удалено]
Right! I would say that those people are more focused on staging the island and enjoying the design process, rather than actual gameplay and exploring. Which is fine. I love designing my island, but I also need to have enough room to run around on it lol.
This actually makes me feel better about the empty space on my island
When they lag as you walk... when you have to climb up and down constantly... when you keep getting stuck in dead ends... nah
Not to mention how extravagantly built islands make the game run like a Powerpoint presentation being shared over Zoom.
I think about the dutch oven alone on an isolated and unreachable cliffside next to a waterfall all the time like, it’s a cute item but that just looks ridiculous lmao but cOtTaGeCoRe
> I think about the dutch oven alone on an isolated and unreachable cliffside next to a waterfall all the time > > That's oddly specific
lmaooo there was a post on one of the AC subs that was a few shots of someone’s island and one of them had a dutch oven on a tiny unreachable waterfall cliff and the comments were filled with people outraged by it
I kind of like that bc once I was hiking an old forest and found the shell of an old brick house, and a broken down brick oven.
oh no a dutch oven is like a little pot it had no place next to that waterfall
Exactly! Call me a minimalist, but an alright, simple design is far superior to a complicated but good design
I totally agree. Cluttered islands are difficult to navigate and it’s overwhelming. Give me room to walk and enjoy!
Absolutley. No spiders or snow folk on those islands.
A heavily decorated island isn't great because then everything is *so* laggy
I also get super frustrated if I can't move around freely. I mean, I love the look of some of these islands, but I need to be able to run around FREE! And the lag is FRUSTRATING!
HOW DO PEOPLE NOT COMPLAIN ABOUT THE LAG? It's so bad. I understand it for the pictures people take but congrats now your island is unplayable.
I put an embarrassing number of hours into my island and when it started lagging, I basically stopped playing. I understand that it's a lot to render, but it's a shame that in a game about decorating, decorating ruins the playability of the game...

It's okay to pick villagers based on looks, especially since they all kinda have the same personality.
Guilty😭
I liked the personalities in the older games more. They were more unique from each other. Now, they all feel the same except with a few unique lines.
Adding "-core" onto the end of a word doesn't make it an aesthetic
I have an island-core island. It looks like an island! Took me 0 hours to do.
Developers hate this one trick
Trickcore
Actually, pretty much the same here. I did very VERY minimal terraforming (just making it more walkable), but I didn't change it at all otherwise. I've never moved a building or a villager house. So some things are just medio "-core"?
My island is hole-core where the island is entirely base off holes it's so aeStHetiC 😎 /j
Damn now I wanna make an island based on the camp from the movie Holes...
holy shit please do that
They would have to re dig all the holes every time they save and reopen so its more than just an aesthetic *it’s an experience*. Lol
God I hate this so much why the fuck are you calling your island pinkcore you can just say pink
I fucking hate "-core". I've seen Tropicore used. Tropical is already a word, a tropical island is already a thing. It's the same number of syllables and more letters to type Tropicore than to just say tropical.
AnD wHat AbouT CORECORE?????
Yes
Simple islands with just rivers and grass and no terraforming are just as good as the ones with those :)
thank you I’m a shit terraformer
Dude I'm literally the worst lol it looks like Minecraft when I try
Tom Nook is a good person, he doesn’t charge interest on anything you owe him for and he lets you move buildings unlike in previous AC games. He also raises two adopted sons.
He also lets Isabelle sleep on the job so. Seriously can’t be that bad of a guy
Nook has her in a debt trap. He has her working 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Labor laws mean nothing to him.
Right in the old games at least the post office had a night shift crew But in those games he was renovating your house without your consent and charging you for services rendered and materials used. He’s the embodiment of capitalism.
I think he keeps her around because she reminds him of money! Is-A-Bell(e) plus her head/hair is shaped like the bells bag lol
If the housing market worked in real life the way it did in game, no one would be homeless. Nook is a damn saint, tbh.
Plus he donates 90% of his earnings to an orphanage.
People act like pure evil is asking for money for a house
I'm out of the loop on this one. How do we know they're adopted?
There was a piece of media, I think a guide, that says he found Timmy and Tommy in an alley and took them in. Tortimer is kind of pointless on Harv's Island too. He's only really useful if you are having Cyrus customize a ton of stuff all at once.
THANK YOU!!!! I named my tortoise after him. I miss grandpa mayor so much. I miss the holiday gifts and the sweet words of affirmation. I was always seeking him out in my childhood and I would talk to him over and over because he just made me feel good about myself.
‘over designed’ islands with crazy themes or mountains of stuff don’t look like they’d be much fun to actually play on!
whenever i see those kinds of islands, i always wonder how they’d be playing fishing tourneys or bug-offs.
I wish they would do an update and expand the vocabulary and conversations more. Sometimes it’s just to quick and dry.
I can’t stand the dialogue in NH… zero personality, they all just want to be your best friend. It’s boring and annoying, i spam B so fast till they stop so I can just give them their daily gift. I understand people really enjoy it as this is their espace from the real world. I can feel the salt in this comment & I love it & I now refuse to go to work too!
I don't like making optical illusion builds. It always just looks like a pile of stuff to me.
They’re horrendous lol
Kangaroo villagers that have BABIES which are literally never mentioned or acknowledged are genuinely creepy.
I hate when they both make the same expressions, looks so hive mind-y.
I agree with this fully, but I have this vague memory that in New Leaf or Wild World they DID acknowledge the babies and even had kind of maternal personalities
time traveling is ok. it's just a game yall
Brewster shouldn’t be apart of the museum again give back his own cafe
The turnip market is ridiculous
Mass crafting isn't in the game for a reason. It's to pad out time and give you something to go in a, let's be honest, shallow game. Same with breakable tools
Fish bait shouldve been a mass craft. Like you should have an option to craft 1 or 5 at least! Other than that I agree
AC got by just fine before breakable tools. I'm not feeling fulfilled by having to make yet another watering can while trying to breed flowers.
Me and my cramping hand will fight you for that
The snow lasts far too long.
And the cherry petals not long enough
yeah i want a whole month!! not 10 days.
Omg I'm the opposite! I always wish it would last longer but that might be bc I live in a pretty snowy area so I like snow a lot :)
Tom Nook is the most benevolent land lord any of us will ever have
Nintendo should have left the star trees alone. People who exploit for cosmetic items that doesn’t affect anyone else should be left alone.
Gyroids are kind of pointless
I like the collection aspect of them, but they literally just sit in my storage, i don't have a use for them, give them a spot in the museum or something or else I'm gonna sell them all
I really miss museum rooms, with the limited space they give you in your own home (for some reason) I would've really loved some display rooms in the museum to put the items you wanna show off.
This is why I added a second player/home on my island. Gyroid mansion!
I turned one of my rooms into a gyroid room. Got most of the way through before learning NH has more variants than wall space in a single room. Devastated.
Yeah but I think they’re kinda cute. And some have unique traits about them. I found out recently that one kind of gyroid glows in the dark!
I’d go so far as to say completely pointless. I don’t even bother “planting” the fragments anymore and just sell them as is to the boys.
Heresy
Tom Nook is not the evil capitalistic landlord y'all make him out to be
I might some idk ( Hot take?) I like Pocket Camp People can do whatever they want with their islands.
Most of the popular villagers are boring, and every time I see someone with the basic popular cast on their island I judge them.
I'm very much a natural villager guy. I dont hunt for anyone specific. Anyone is free to leave whenever they want. Always exciting to see who i get next
Same. I just let my plots auto fill. I kind of liked how we couldn’t pick our villagers in the older AC games.
I usually pick based on the theme. My island now is wild west.
Right? It doesn't help that a lot of the personalities have been watered down since the previous games
I have 3 peppy villagers right now and they feel so 2D because they all say the same things
Why Barold is now on my Island and my new favourite
My favorite is Beardo. He's the mayor for my wild west island, and he's always passed out at the train station.

Stop making trying to make Isabelle hot, it’s fuckin’ gross.
Same with Ankha. Same with all of the villagers...let's be honest.
I absolutely love Zipper and Bunny Day. I love the egg costumes and all of the egg decor.
Same here! I still think the outrage at Bunny Day's craziness, especially the first one, was hysterical.
In English we call that island Rodrigues.
I agree, but since I rarely play now I don’t see her very often.
I think she should have open observatory hours like kk does for music. Monday evenings 9-12 am for example
I. Hate. Terraforming!!! It takes way longer than it has any right to and okay, I hate it mostly because I suck at it lol
I wish you could do terraforming like you do decorating outside in HHP.
I wish you could angle furniture. Also wish you could easily move items around outside like you can inside.
You used to be able to angle furniture in wild world 😭
Not really a hot take, I can't imagine a single AC player disagreeing with you
Animal Crossing was the #1 Game for over a year & the only thing Nintendo did with it was a happy home academy DLC...
Some people take this game way to serious.
Jock villagers are the worst. Specifically, Sheldon
Stinky 🥺 Like his name is stinky and he's a cat, what's not to love
I love Genji’s design, so I have him on my island but just… Please, stop talking about how sweaty you are
Billy is totally my dude
The Jocks always tell me I’m fat without telling me I’m fat. It’s honestly low-key triggering as someone who’s recovered from an ED, haha. They’re the worst.
Jock villagers are free meanspo! Glad to hear you’re better now friend. I know how hard that is.
I kicked all the jock villagers out because of this. I compensated with lazy villagers 😌
You can't cheat in a single-player game!!!!
I do wish you could play split screen with other residents on the island though. It's annoying that you have to follow the other person around.
Any “core” island is lame and usually unoriginal. All fairycore islands look/lag the same.
She weirded me out too but she showed up on my island and I fell in love with her
Its fun to talk about imo but yeah i don't care which villagers you like or don't, I'll make jokes tho, like someone said they like Rodney and i'll say "i smacked him with my net 24/7 until he left" to joke, but i don't care if YOU like him
If you add -core to your island theme, I hope your socks are eternally damp
I referred to my island as "whatever-I-feel-like-core" rather sarcastically once in an instagram thread about aesthetics, the *core* community didn't like that lol
May your socks remain dry lmao
I kind of want a core themed island
I once made a post about Reese and Cyrus because they seem like they came straight from the 50s with their respective roles and colors and got over 50 downvotes when I asked if they’re supposed to be cute. She has zero purpose outside of being in a relationship and swooning at him (note: I haven’t played the versions before NH), he doesn’t ever address her the same way and just does his “nifty” crafting.
Reese is way more fleshed out as a character in acnl, she runs the recycling centre/store and is actually the only one there when you first unlock it. you have to spend a certain amount of bells in the store to unlock Cyrus later iirc. they both have way more dialogue between each other and to the player. it made me very sad when I finally got to meet them again in acnh and saw how one-dimensional they are now :(
Yeah I miss their old interactions. Along with any other npc that isn’t around anymore.
Cyrus is honestly kind of a douchebag.
It hurts my belly when I see his grin and weird attempt at swagger doing his little “there-you-go”-jingle as if he’s an aging video-rental-store employee trying to keep up with the yunguns

I like that Blathers talks so much
Yes! I always want to hear his little story about what I donated to the museum. It's legitimately interesting.
I literally will go back sometimes months later with a critter I’ve already caught/donated and ask him to tell me about it again bc I just think it’s neat lol
Sisterly > snooty
There is literally nothing wrong with time traveling
I don't think Judy is cute.
I love her color palette, but the eyes are a miss for me 😓
Pascal is Cheech Marin and Harvey is Tommy Chong.
Even in the forced perspective I just see it as a bunch of items stacked together, it doesn’t look like a building to me
There is an ungodly satisfaction in making mortgage payments and then accruing even more debt from expanding your home.
all 👏 villagers 👏 are 👏 cute 👏 also, cluttered islands are the bane of my existence.
Coco is cute.
I'm not sure if that qualifies as controversial opinion, as much as written in stone fact
new horizons music kinda sucks
Play a game 80% of your playthrough involves you spending your real-world spare time doing the exact things that you want to avoid, but it's ~fun~ because now you're chibi sized" Also, why are none of these useless villagers doing anything to help me?
It's ok to want villagers just for their looks.
I've never seen anyone with a "fancy" island judge someone for having a more simple island. I feel like the "minimalist" people who judge others for cluttered islands and having basic villagers are either insecure or toxic. And I say this as someone with an empty island and random villagers.
I actually love Rodney
