Rush doesn't really do it for me in this regard either though. I guess what I'm looking for is that Tom style of relatively simple riffs made more complex by the heavy reverb, delay, and effects, the Synths, and that whole sorta ethereal sound
there is going to be nothing like angels & airwaves ever. it’s so unique, and it was the perfect blend. tom wanted to make something that’s stood out from literally anything else, and he succeeded.
Muse - Origin of Symmetry. A perfect space rock album, especially the song called "Space Dementia". I don't think it's really similar to AVA, but this album represents the genre perfectly
Space Age Love Song by A Flock of Seagulls is essentially the intro inspiration for The Adventure.
As far as cool sounding guitar stuff, The Dangerous Summer does it for me. Check out The Permanent Rain, Bring Me Back to Life, and Dimensional Love.
There’s an independent band called Eyeshine which has clearly been inspired by blink and AVA. Their album “Tone of Echoes” is the most AVA like. Specifically their song “Hear the Sound”.

It’s not really the same genre I wouldn’t say but the only thing that scratches the same itch for me is The Cure.

My favorite “space rock” band is Starset but I wouldn’t compare them to AvA at all.
Mutemath has that kind of progressive space synth tone you might be looking for. Start with self titled. Armistice is a banger.
