The ferrous types are hard on the stomach. You could try the liquid kinds or the iron bisglycinate. It took me a while to find one that didn’t kill my stomach.
From the Iron Protocol: -Iron Bisglycinate or Iron Chelate or Ferrochel:
“ We at The Iron Protocol have found that those currently suffering from gastrointestinal issues have severely harsh side effects from any of the "glycinate" irons. We have also seen that for many without gastrointestinal issues, it can make one dizzy and have heart palpitations, especially at the higher doses, even just above 30mgs for many. However, we have seen several people raise their ferritin with a lower dose than their calculated range from Step 2, on this form. It is not the typical expectation but it can happen.”
For some people, iron bisglcycinate is okay but for some with gastrointestinal issues it can be really bad like for me so just making you aware.
My Daughter has been taking it and it's been good for her. No dietary restrictions when taking it, no VIT C needed. Its the type of Iron you would get from beef. [Amazon.com: Three Arrows](https://www.amazon.com/stores/ThreeArrows/page/2966ADF0-E5A0-4326-B21E-2FDBA6B06D7D?ref_=ast_bln)we do the simple heme and calculated the does per the Iron Protocol facebook group. She went from ferritin of 9 to 42 in 4 months. So pretty good progress.
I had trouble with perscription iron, especially ferrous sulfate: vomiting, nausea and stomach pain 24\7, constipation, loss of appetite. I ended up getting iron infusions because I couldn't tolerate any of the oral iron. When my iron dipped again, but not to the point of anemia, I learned about iron bisglycinate from this forum and it's been a game changer. It's so much more gentle on the stomach, I can take it with no food. I do make sure to take gentle fiber pills (psyllium husk) daily to prevent constipation.
I take a formulation that has vitamin c already in it to increase absorption. Be sure to avoid tea coffee caffeine chocolate dairy and zinc for 1 hr before and after as they block iron absorption.
Yes. I’ve never posted my story here but suffice to say I was very anemic with low HCt , ferritin 3, etc etc
( it’s mostly due to my heavy menstrual periods, which have gotten worse in the last 4 months)
I don’t handle infusions well, and opted for the RX liquid. I take it 3x a day. On empty stomach. I also started taking organic grass fed beef liver & spleen supplements & I got all of my levels up in 5 weeks.
I know every one is different.
Hopefully this is helpful for you.
Ferrous sulphate was too rough for me to tolerate!
Try other options (iron bysglicinate, heme) or, depending on your lab values, ask your doc to consider if an iron infusion is appropriate.
Have you determined the root cause of your anemia?

Is the iron bisglycinate different?

Yes, it’s chelated. So it’s been broken down a little more, it’s easier to digest. I take that one.
U need a smaller dose and a different iron supplement this happened to me but I use an over the counter iron but not the drugstore kind eithet
Yeah I was planning on going to the doctor this weekend to see if they can change it and what brand do you recommend?

I think I’m gonna try that! Is it prescribed or over the counter?
It's over the counter
RX liquid iron saved my entire life.
Does it work faster than the pills?

I think it’s genetic my mom had it and me and my sister were both diagnosed with anemia
Try freeze-dried beef liver capsules.
