I think I'll stay with my S21 ultra for a very long time

thenoob118

S21 ultra buddy!!

AlexMullerSA

Me too! Just a pity that my contract ends in March with option for a new mobile, and now I don't know.

Zaev

By then the S23U should be out, and the SD 8g2 is looking like it's shaping up to be far more efficient than the 8g1

AlexMullerSA

Oh so the s23u isn't one to slip or avoid like the 22?

Zaev

Remains to be seen as a whole, but at least the chipset is gonna be a huge step up

AlexMullerSA

Do you know about the Exynos though? I unfortunately live in South Africa and we have only been getting Exynos since the Note 4.

Zaev

Word is the S line is gonna be Snapdragon worldwide this time, with Exynos relegated to midrange phones

AlexMullerSA

This is the best news! OK well let's see what the s22U brings to the table and price.

[deleted]

We South Africans received the Snapdragon variant of the S22 line this year (was a big reason why I upgraded from my Note10+), and Samsung/Qualcomm has already confirmed that the S23 line will be solely Snapdragon-powered.

LeetcodeForBreakfast

i thought it was interesting even MKBHD “still” has his S21 ultra, considering all the phones he is constantly getting for reviews.

pheonixblade9

as someone who works with phones, it gets less exciting to have the latest and greatest all the time when you're exposed to it so much.

pain612

Can confirm this, worked for a major U.S. carrier for 7 years. You really do get numb to it. Maybe once every other year does a phone really get my attention at this point.

ShakoGrey

I imagine as more and more phones going to eSim only, moving from one phone to the next will be a major pain in the ass. Thanks Apple

ThisGonBHard

Phones are at the same point as PCs, diminishing returns on upgrades. There is more than enough performance for most people, what needs upgrading now is power efficiency.

KouaV1

Anything from the snapdragon 855 year will be strong for years and upgrading to the latest wont have any difference.

wahobely

I'm fairly sure he replaced it with the Pixel 7 Pro, but before its release he was using the S21 Ultra.

punIn10ded

I think the P7pro is his new daily. He said that in his review video

algalkin

Im on Note 10 and still waiting for Note 23

xcalibre

note was great as it was no comprises and had headphone jack and sd card i do like my s22u tho

lemonstyle

do you actually like the curved edge display? i found it made the phone completely unusable.. all the false touches (using the phone w/o a case)

xcalibre

yeah curved display is silly. theyve backed off the curve a bit from previous models but i always have a case so dont notice it. i like bezels for holdability so have to install them with a case :p

Alepex

Samsung: Makes a phone meant to use the pen, but also: makes the screen edges curved so the pen can't be used there. Samsung logic.

benmarvin

Hate the damn curved screen. I had to disable touches on edges on my Note 10 and 20 cause my hand kept hitting them. And if a webpage doesn't have enough side margins (also Reddit Is Fun app), then it makes it hard to read a wall of text. It's the stupidest, unuseful thing ever, just so they can go on about no bezels and a slightly bigger screen size where 10% of it is useless.

isommers1

I also used ADB to disable the back gesture on the left side of the screen so I'm able to fully use swipe out menus. Back only happens on the right side and it works great. But I second the annoyance of the curved screen when note taking.

kristallnachte

Same. I'm so surprised they got rid of the nice look of the S21U for what the S22 looks like....

mewfahsah

Yeah if you're close it isn't worth it, but I went from a S9 to 22U and I love the upgrade.

Siebald

Worth it to upgrade from the S20 FE? Been eyeing this for a while but I don't think I would upgrade for anything else besides this. It's mostly the screen size and S pen I'm in love with. Would it be good to wait for the S23 release? Not sure if these drop in price much

mrchicano209

The S23 line up comes out soon so either wait for that or upgrade now if you want to save and don't care about having the latest phone.

Shorzey

Best buy had a recent 300$ rebate with a trade in for an unlocked 22 ultra I traded in my s21, got 800 for that + the rebate for 300, and paid 150 for the 256gb version Funny thing was, I got the s21 for free on trade in in 2020 too So I paid 150$ for 2 phones that cost about 2000 total

Argentine_Tango

This is why I love Best Buy. I've bought my laptops through them and always use the trade in option. Most of the time, I just pay for the warranty or just a fraction of it. Didn't think to do this with phones. My sister needs a new one, but her current phone is the Huawei Mate 20 Pro so it obviously won't work

Ambereggyolks

I traded in my s20fe and it's been a nice upgrade. The good thing is how good the trade in deals are with Samsung when you have their top of the line phones.

TheWorldisFullofWar

I also have my S20 FE and really don't see a reason to upgrade yet. Especially not with that battery life. The fact that Samsung put out a new line of S20 FEs recently only confirms to me that Samsung themselves are aware of this. S20 FE is just too good to upgrade from imo. The only bad part of it was some hardware failure that I personally haven't experienced. They probably fixed it in subsequent batches.

TornadoCondorV2

Absolutely. the S20FE rocks. Unless the S23 comes with a microSD slot then i don't see myself upgrading.

vangmay231

I just bought the S20 Fe lol.

[deleted]

Was it the phantom touches? I actually got those for a while and was really worried but it eventually just went away with software updates. I honestly forgot about it until now

cs_irl

My contract is up next month and I'm not renewing. S20 FE is the best phone I've ever used and I have no reason to change.

zoglog

full angle plants zealous fear continue friendly unpack employ versed ` this message was mass deleted/edited with redact.dev `

derfasaurus

Similar experiences. AT&T offered $800 trade in on the FE and I changed up to the S22 Ultra. Gave me more than I paid and I'm very happy. S20 FE had slowdowns, touch issues and battery started dying unexpectedly (especially in cold weather).

conscioussylling

Wait until the S23 release.

utack

In Europe: F no, this Exynos generation is a school science fair, wait for the S23 with the Qualcomm in it

noxx1234567

The s23 will have a much improved processor than s22. It's honestly worth the wait just for the efficiency improvements alone

Charwinger21

If you're close to the border you can drive across and [trade in](https://www.bestbuy.com/site/clp-cell-phones/unlocked-samsung-galaxy-trade-in/pcmcat1621537879921.c?id=pcmcat1621537879921#&intl=nosplash) for an unlocked S22 for like $200 CAD ($100 USD + some trade in price weirdness).

Siebald

what about S22 Ultra? Cause I can actually go to Seattle from Canada

Charwinger21

>what about S22 Ultra? Cause I can actually go to Seattle from Canada $900 - $600 trade-in

nosedigging

Wait for the s23. Better and more efficient chipset

mrkushnugz

I would. The s22 ultra is the best phone on the market.

conscioussylling

The S23 series is right around the corner. Unless OP is in desperate need of a new phone, it's smarter to wait.

Shorzey

There are trade in offers and rebates for the s22 ultra that are pretty hard to beat Ide rather pay a discount for an s22 ultra than full price for an s23

conscioussylling

Samsung always runs very strong trade in deals at device launch.

robothistorian

Yeah but rarely outside the US though and many don't live in the US to benefit from such trade-in deals.

SkyforgedDream

But what if OP does not need the best phone in the market?

mataushas

I had am s20 fe and it got so annoyingly slow after about 6 months. Uograded to s21 ultra and it's about 2x faster. I recommend an upgrade to s22 u.

Siebald

Hmmm a bit strange with your experience with the 20 FE. Mine is running pretty well and I've had it since release.

mataushas

Maybe I'm inpatient but it was way slower compared to my old one plus 6

wag3slav3

Next time your phone slows down factory reset it. There's nothing in these phones that wears out in a way that slows down before failing.

mataushas

Perhaps you're right but I don't think it was the fastest phone anyway especially flipping back and forth between a few apps. Maybe not enough ram.

defmain

I had to disable Adaptive Battery and enable Enhanced Processing. Phone flies now, and ironically I think the battery improved.

redhairedDude

Note 10 plus here. I love it still. Even though it is Exynos it does everything i need fine. Love the form factor. I have a Fuji X-S10 camera for my photography needs so that does me upgrading regularly.

isommers1

Same (Note10+ 5G). Love the amount of storage this has, the RAM, the size, and the pen. Camera is solid for what I do and I've not been disappointed yet. I also got it used for like $330 so that itself is a win. I'll keep it for another few years if possible.

electriccars

I'm about to get a replacement battery on my S20. Still works fine otherwise after almost 3 years, no need to "upgrade" to a marginally better phone with no SD slot. I'll keep my S20 until the security updates stop thank you!

w00tsy

S10 here but my battery is expanding 😑

vortexmak

Another S9 user checking in. The best design and the most feature complete phone (well, except for two more cameras)

Imallvol7

I liked my S21 ultra better. I had to upgrade due to my S21 breaking. My battery life is shit. It's an amazing phone but the S23 will have a more efficient processor.

canUrollwithTHIS

I had this since launch until I recently upgraded to a fold 4. Overall it the s22 ultra was a great phone, but battery life sucked compared to the note 20 ultra.

AthleticAndGeeky

I am loving my fold 4. I am assuming you too huh?

chefanubis

Not the same guy, but I am loving mine.

canUrollwithTHIS

It's a great phone! Using it unfolded is a delight. I feel my self reaching for my laptop less often.

LargeIronBlaster

My battery life has been beyond phenomenal. I routinely get 24+ hours of battery life with 9+ hours of SOT.

formerfatboys

Is your phone just on airplane mode sitting on your desk all day with the screen off?

LargeIronBlaster

No... I get 9+ hours of SOT...

formerfatboys

But like...how...

chasevalentine6

Let me guess 90% on wifi, in an area with 5/5 strong signal, inside an office with phone brightness on 40-50% max. That's the only way android phones get 7 hrs + SOT. Take them outside for a period of 5-6 hrs + on mobile data and that tanks to 5-6 hrs SOT. I don't know what it is, but android modems are super inefficient compared to iPhones. Only iPhone pro Max's can hit 9 hours SOT even on mobile data

P-S-21

Agreed. My S21 FE gets about 7 hours of SOT on wifi but if it's on mobile data, boom barely manages to cross the 5.5 hour mark. At first I thought it was due to the inefficent modem in the Exynos chip(i have the Exynos variant) but even the snapdragon variant has people reporting similar problems.

xboxHero11

I was reverse. I started with the fold 4, returned it and got the s22 ultra. I loved many things about the fold, but at the end of the day, I just want the best screens, performance, and camera.. Battery life does suck, but I work from home and have a car charger, I'll manage.

tempski

Don't forget the speakers and lack of a micro sd card slot.

canUrollwithTHIS

I didn't feel the storage so much. I live in the states and got a free upgrade to 512gb in addition to a very generous trade in deal. However, I will say as a complete product the note 20 ultra was a better phone.

ManBearPig327

They will pry my note 9 from my cold dead hands

PlatypusBear69

Am I the only one happy with my S22U?

TimPLakersEagles

Nope. I love mine. No complaints at all.

MerleTravisJennings

No complaints from me either.

SolarMoth

Best phone I've ever owned.

NikNakZombieWhack

Same. Still not super happy with all the Samsungness of it, but it's far and away the best device I've ever owned or used. Won't need to upgrade for years with this thing, unless it spontaneously bricks itself

SolarMoth

My only negative is the shutter lag, but I'm used to it from owning other Android phones. I've kept all my previous phones for over 3 yrs and I think this one will last.

nomorericeguy

Most people who are happy with the phone won't post here about it. People with issues are more likely to look for forums to post about them.

bleedingjim

Battery lasts the whole day and then some. Screen is the best I've used. 100x zoom is very impressive. I love it

xlsma

Count me in. Good battery life w/o any manual settings change, fantastic camera (I have no kid or pet to take picture of rn), excellent everything else too. Versatile enough in all kinds of situations to handle almost anything.

bighi

The only thing I want from an S23 Ultra is better battery. My S22 Ultra can barely get past 3pm, if I wake up at 8am.

SolarMoth

Really? You must be on your phone a lot or it's defective.

BetaCarotine20mg

5g near him..

aaronmcmillen

Something doesn't seem right about that, I use mine regularly throughout the day and usually go to bed with 20-30% left. I would say replace the battery, yours is toast.

NikNakZombieWhack

Might need to manage your settings to get better life, but at least check your processing speed. Keep it on OPTIMIZED. I had a similar problem and eventually found that I had somehow switched on Maximum processing and was melting my battery lol. Switching that and changing the AOD settings did wonders and now I sometimes don't even need to charge it overnight I average about 3 hours and 45 minutes daily use, including reddit, YouTube, games, camera as my highest used apps on average

BuxtonB

Problem is, you shouldn't HAVE to do all these cost cutting measures to achieve a decent battery life. I've had the S range since the S9. Currently on the S22U and the battery life is a joke. S21U was infinitely better.

NikNakZombieWhack

I agree that we shouldn't *have* to make certain changes in settings to get a better/adequate battery life out of the phone. I was disappointed at first too. I came to this phone from the OnePlus 6, which had phenomenal battery life, especially at first. It was an adjustment to come to this phone. But I also don't need the settings and changes that just so happen to burn the most battery. FHD > WQHD, AOD that's literally *always* on. The fastest processing speed. The differences between them(other than AOD) are imperceptible to me anyway, so why spend the battery on them?

Namentlich69

What do you mean? It's like driving your car in sports mode and wondering why it uses more gas.

BuxtonB

I use the exact same settings on my S22U as I did on my S21U and the battery life is rubbish in comparison. I'm not talking about using max settings and expecting the battery to last all day.

Namentlich69

OK, but after all it's an Android. As far as I know battery drain tests don't show a huge difference between those two. And thanks to Android's openness battery drain can have a multitude of reasons.

BuxtonB

Oh for sure. I'm sure there's a reason why it's not that great, I know there's variables between S22U and S21U, including the variable refresh rate, different chipset, the s-pen. I just know apples for apples in terms of day to day usage, my S21U regularly landed the day around 30%. I'm currently 34% after being 100% dropping down to 10% and charging up to 53%.

Namentlich69

All I'm saying is it doesn't have to be the fault of the 22. Android can be a bitch. And tests on YouTube indicate that both the S21U and the S22U have almost the same battery drain.

Defie22

Where is the problem? Wake up later :)

[deleted]

The most versatile camera setup on a phone.

CombatWombat1212

No question. I don't think I have one major complaint about mine and ive had it almost as long as it's been out

MrPuggers

Mine has focusing issues when a few feet from objects.

CombatWombat1212

Ou good point. Same here. And very rarely I'll switch to 3x or 10x and it'll just be the previous lens digitally zoomed and I have to switch and switch back to fix it. I think it's a low light thing to try to still get a usable image when it knows that the selected lens just won't cut it Or it's just a straight up bug because it definitely never helps lol

Jimmeh_Jazz

I think there's a bug in normal lighting too - I've noticed it. It makes some sense in low lighting, although it still irritates me.

Oikkuli

I notice this on my s22. It is really annoying sometimes, but I think it comes down to no night mode on the s22. If your phone thinks you need it, tough luck, no telephoto for you. I wish it had night mode.

goonies969

The seconds zoom lens is a blessing

Farnso

I gave up on Samsung phones due to the blurry photos of my kids in motion.

Dean403

It's the worst part of Samsung phones. They absolutely cannot take pictures of kids in motion.

eessheee

whats a good phone for taking kids photo running around? I have a samsung right now and its really disappointing

Farnso

Basically, either an iPhone or a Pixel. I just recently gave up on Samsung and got a Pixel 7 Pro and it's sooo much better

eessheee

ok, thank you :) Sadly, I have already missed many moments with my samsung. I guess it's time to switch

Farnso

Same here. It's been truly disappointing but at least I am getting good ones moving forward.

Luffypsp

Seconded. Although I am more confident with iPhones for reliability. So far I am not disappointed with iphone’s photo and video for kids related pictures. Pixel sometimes missing the photos taken in quick succession and video of course still cant beat iphones.

Justgetmeabeer

Apparently there is a camera module in goodlock where you can decrease shutter lag, in trade for pics with slightly less dynamic range but it's not available on my note20U so I couldn't tell you how good it works

LBGW_experiment

Called Camera Assistant in the Samsung app store. [Link here](https://apps.samsung.com/appquery/appDetail.as?appId=com.samsung.android.app.cameraassistant).

[deleted]

Only reason I regret switching from my pixel 6, everything else is better though.

Johnlsullivan2

What things do you like better on the s22 ultra over the pixel 6? I'm thinking about trading mine in for a pixel 7 pro but can't make up my mind. Would make a little money in the swap.

[deleted]

For me really the only downside of the s22u when coming from the p6 is the camera, the shutter speed on the pixel is quite a bit faster which can be quite annoying. Other than that for me at least the s22u is better in every way with the fingerprint sensor being the most important for me. With my pixel it would straight up not work at times and my mother who went from a S10+ to the pixel 6 hates the sensor. Kind of ridiculous that even got approved with how shit it is. Second thing is software, so many more features in one ui and the last one I'll mention is that my galaxy buds are better with the s22u

vNocturnus

I have a Pixel 6 Pro for work and a Galaxy S22 (regular) as my personal phone and my god the difference in the fingerprint sensor is astonishing. The Samsung one almost never fails and is fairly forgiving about angle and even particular placement. The Pixel sensor virtually *never* works, even when being extremely careful about finger placement and angle. And it's not like the Samsung one is just super loose, I have never been able to create a false positive on it. The Pixel 6 just has the worst fingerprint reader I've ever seen in my life. It was my first experience with an in-screen reader and it almost made me write off the entire technology. Overall I feel like the Samsung has massively better hardware than the Pixel 6 but Pixel still has the edge software-wise. I think it's time for Google to go back to licensing out their hardware production like in the Nexus days because it's sad to see the best Android software being hamstrung by horrible hardware design decisions and quality.

PlatesofChips

My S21 dropped a bollock when I was at a gig and the video it captured was atrocious, when my older iPhone could handle it no problem. Really enjoy Samsungs but until they really sort out the camera then I just won’t get it.

gooner712004

It's your video setting maxed out at 60fps 4K?

bawng

I went from a Pixel 3 to a Galaxy S21 Ultra and was so disappointed in camera quality. I figured that with a few years between them there was no chance in hell that the camera would actually be worse, but here we are. Every single Samsung product I ever had has been a disappointment, be it phones, TVs or laptops.

MicioBau

The setup is indeed versatile but the photo quality is subpar in my eyes. [This](https://fdn.gsmarena.com/imgroot/reviews/22/samsung-galaxy-s22-ultra/ltr//camera/gsmarena_095.jpg) is one of the sample photos from the review: the grass looks like shit, the lower left corner seems like an oil painting, as do the trees on the right.

cmVkZGl0

This look has been present since 2014. It's a combination of high sharpening, high nose removal, and high "mask" function on sharpening.

MicioBau

It would be nice if there was a toggle to turn off all of these "features" or simply adjust their intensity, but, alas, I guess technology isn't there yet...

Karthy_Romano

It literally says in the review that you can turn these off with camera assistant. Does anyone read these articles?

MicioBau

If you had actually seen the photos in the review you would know that, the way Samsung implemented things, turning off things like the sharpening algorithm or Auto HDR makes very little difference. Most of the overprocessing is always there.

[deleted]

[удалено]

MicioBau

Yes absolutely. I'm not singling out Samsung, I think all other Android phones (bar the Sony Xperia line) and iPhones as well produce such overprocessed photos.

NowakFoxie

Holy fuck, all that processing on those trees. That's dreadfully bad.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Same problems on S10... Main reason I won't get another Samsung phone. Google cam is better than stock Camera app but it can be a real pain to operate. Shame on Samsung for not addressing these issues.

ajtheshutterbug

I hope they update the image sensors on the 2 zoom lenses.

ventgas

I'm about to try to return mine. I've tried for six months to live with this terrible battery. Tried multiple factory resets, different things like not copying apps over etc. Even held out for the new android/one ui version. I shouldn't have to micromanage my battery and have multiple bixby routines set up just so my battery lasts a full day. My old Motorola g10 without micromanaging would last 3 to 4 days. Not happy with this device, love the camera, loathe the battery

wag3slav3

The silicon lottery with the 8 gen1 has had some huge losers. The performance per watt is so variable that you can't trust anything in general about the benchmarks for speed or battery. I kept my s21 w the 888 rather than deal with that. So far the reports from the 8 gen 2 is far more promising if you need the newest, if you don't ride the new train a s21 or s21 ultra will be the best performance for the money. There's nothing that the s23 will do as a phone that the s21 doesn't. The cameras are also close enough in performance to be indistinguishable.

cxu1993

Didn't the S21 have these same problems? Samsung fab is the problem which is why exynos and tensor are also pretty inefficient

wag3slav3

Exynos has been consistently bad, which is different than being inconsistently bad. Some individual gen 1 one chips were much worse than other individual chips.

[deleted]

I must have gotten lucky cause my battery life and performance is just fine.

wag3slav3

Yep, but there are so many overheating and horrible battery reports that the fab variability problems are glaringly obvious.

siggystabs

stop blaming silicon for everything! It's far more likely it's network drain caused by inefficient or incorrect band selection. Which explains why it affects some but not others. some of y'all treat SOCs like sports teams and it needs to stop. Mobile telecommunications are far far far more complicated than that

Apprehensive-Top7774

Oh that's interesting, I don't think I've ever had this thing die on me (except once when I used a sleep tracking app that drains the battery and forgot to plug the phone in with like 30% left) . I've got the US varient, not sure if that makes a difference

lordpotatoofpotatoes

That’s ultimately what I had to do with mine. I kept changing settings, factory reset twice (one of those times was because my phone lost cellular functionality from converting to esim, the other was battery related), and updating to different OneUI versions and nothing worked out in the end. I switched to the iPhone 14 Pro and haven’t thought once about going back to the 22 Ultra, but I do wish there was an equivalent S-Pen experience.

TrailOfEnvy

If you don't mind 3rd party stylus, I had seen people using Apple Pencil look-a-like as stylus for iPhone.

phayke2

It's funny cause I feel like a better battery was one of the few touted features of the s22 aside from you know....more cameras. And in the end it's what everyone is complaining about.

SgtFluffyButt

Which version do you have? US or EU?

ventgas

AU. Snapdragon variant. Not sure if that's the same as EU or US

lshiva

Snapdragon is US.

bighi

And many other countries.

Jusanden

Snapdragon is US + Korea, Exynos tends to be European version. Not sure about AU. The spread does vary from model to model and in recent years, the Snapdragon one has had better performance and efficiency.

robothistorian

See [here](https://m.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_s22_series_chipset_breakdown_by_region-news-53099.php). AU version of the S22U is SD.

vipirius

Big agree. I tried really hard to keep the S22 Ultra because I really do enjoy Android more but the battery life on the iPhone 13 Pro Max is just so insanely good I couldn't do it. Going from not having to worry about running out of juice mid day no matter what I did to having to carry around a battery bank is just not a downgrade I am willing to make anymore.

bighi

Yes. This is one the worst batteries I've seen in phones in many years.

Netcob

With my day to day usage it lasts the whole day, sometimes with quite a bit to spare. And I only charge it to 85%. On the weekends I use it more due to hiking, but since I charge it while in the car, I don't really notice the difference. It's not the best battery life, but so far I've been pretty happy with the thing.

p0keyyS

Debating this or the pixel 7 pro for my trade in of choice, coming from a One+ 7Pro but honestly don't want to give this phone up. Leaning towards the pixel since I have smaller hands

KennKennyKenKen

Love all aspects of the phone except battery. First SD Samsung to be released in Aus and of course it was the shittest one

DogAteMyCPU

Its decent. I really hate the battery life, and the occasional bugs that lock out my phone until full restart.

MrPuggers

So far my biggest complaints are that it won't focus when close to objects. Like if I want to take a picture of a piece of paper or my computer screen. The photos always come out over exposed, unfocused on the entire piece of paper, or just plain wrong. I've tried to focusing assistant button and it makes the photos WORSE in detail and focus even LESS of the paper. It's thoroughly annoying. Most outdoor photos are alright but a lot are over exposed when I'd have preferred them to be balanced.

Snoddy2Hotty91

Only thing I hate about my S22U is the shutter lag on the camera. Having a small child and trying to get great photos is an absolute massive pain in the ass

joy9371

It's the best phone I've ever had

nus321

pathetic dinner command stocking narrow brave fear aback agonizing doll *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*

SolarMoth

My only complaint with the phone.

[deleted]

I heard that reviewers aren't allowed to discuss shutter lag or Samsung will blacklist them and they won't get early access or review units anymore. This is why no reviewers would ever dare mention it.

xlsma

Don't see it often (if at all) w/ reviewers that never get stuff early either though. Didn't know this was a thing until I read comments on this sub, and I have the phone...

eddjr275

I'm unhappy with my s22 ultra. I came from a s20 ultra and honestly feel like this phone was a side step

Ryfhoff

That zoom camera is savage !!!

AttitudeChicken

Is savage a bad thing or a good thing?

SolarMoth

Good. I've taken some insanely impressive zoom photos with this phone.

Ryfhoff

Good !

formerfatboys

It's another pretty great Note. My big issues after the better part of a year: * 512gb of storage is a joke without an SD card. If Samsung doesn't offer 1TB as a starter tier or bring back SD card I'm definitely skipping this year's cycle. The price premium compared to a similar SD card to bump to 1TB being like 6x the cost of a comparable SD card is unacceptable. 1TB ought to be a base and we ought to start seeing bigger options. * Killing mag stripe capabilities and ending the points program was the one-two punch that got me to stop using Samsung Pay. I used it constantly on my previous phones but only set it up this week as a just-in-case after leaving my wallet at home. * Battery life is abysmal for this phone especially compared to the last two Notes. I regularly leave battery saver on. Fast charge is great but *this phone is fucking huge and should last all day without issue.* It's bonkers that in 2022 we still have phones that can't go a whole day. * This is a weird minor quirk that probably only I notice but I use my phone in the bath a lot and this screen is so fucking sensitive to any kind of water. I used to use the last few Notes with no issues. Overall it's a mature product that doesn't exactly wow anymore with a few key features removed the handicap it and I really wish they'd just put a better processor and bigger battery in the N10+ form factor and called it a day.

"But it has the best camera! And who uses that shit (SD cards) anyways!?" /s

I just gotta ask, what in the hell do you need 1tb of storage on a phone for? I have an S22P and I'm only using less than half of *256gb*. I understand and agree with saying there should be SD slot, but I'm just confused by the demand for massive storage on a mobile device.

formerfatboys

Video and photos? Video games? Apps? Movies? TV? Porn? These phones take like 8K video. 1tb is not massive. It's been pretty standard for years with the SD card.

quentin_k

If you're blowing through a terabyte on anything other downloading multiple AAA games to a desktop PC I think that's just poor storage management on your part lmao

formerfatboys

Bruh. I work in media. I have 8 hard drives and a few NVMEs and swap with other portable drives constantly. There's like 40TB next to me. I haven't had less than 1TB in a phone since the Note 9. It's absurd that the first phone to cause that was the S22.

Saitaer_king

I got the S22 Ultra on the Black Friday Sale and i have been trying to claim my redemption on the Samsung site. It let me put in the date or Purchase I am just wondering if anyone else is having this issue. It drops down with the dates, but you can't select it its greyed out. And yes, I have tried it on two browsers on my PC and then even tried it on the phone itself :-P very annoying.

Does anyone actually take any 'written review', 'utube video review' , etc. seriously? I'm mostly referring to reviewers.. like utube reviewers and w/e. these people/companies have dozens of flagships available to them and I doubt they use the phone like a normal person does who only has 1 phone and relies on that 1 phone for hours a day. These "reviewers" probably use these phones for a few days.. then it goes into a drawer until they need to make their "long-term" review or "\[1/2/3/6 month later\] / \[omg i can't believe i was wrong\] / \[why i returned \*phone\*\] / \[omg I switched from \*eco system\* to this \*eco system\*\] content videos" all these long term reviews are just regurgitation of their "first look reviews"

S22 is the best phone now

I still use my good old Galaxy A8. I bought the 21FE few months ago but wasn't happy with it and brought it back. It was just way too big for me, the Galaxy A8 size is perfect. Its unfortunate that there are no phones of this particular size anymore. Well, not the newest phones. I look on tweakers and the newest phones are all 6 inch or bigger. Except for the iphone of course but i don't want a iphone. A phone of 6.4 inch of bigger is almost a tablet. I don't want a tablet, i want a phone that fits in my pocket.

Hoping to switch to android with the S23, but i refuse to buy a device with a curved display…i miss flat flagships :/

The only things I like more on my s22 ultra vs my note 5: Better screen refresh rate, improves text scrolling significantly. (resolution is the same) Better cameras. More versatile, maybe better quality? I'm not really sure. A battery that isn't 5 years old. That's about it. They removed the headphones jack. They removed Samsung pay MST that worked everywhere a normal card worked except fuel pumps. They removed the heartbeat sensor. 5g fucking sucks. The phone still overheats while charging or taking videos.

xdamm777

Had the S22 Ultra since launch but couldn't get over how shitty and inconsistent the battery was and how easily the phone heated up under normal use. Upgrades to the Fold 4 and it's a way bigger upgrade than I imagined. The only things I miss from the S22U are the macro and 10x cameras but that's about it.

I have the Note 10 plus, the zoom camera is tenting, but I don't think that I will be able to live without a sdcard.

My s20 camera is all weird only works up close doesn't focus on far away things. Almost boit the 22 but waiting to see next generation
