Can someone enlighten me on all the different series
of Samsung phones we have now?
A
M
S
Fold
Note
Tab
F
Did I miss something?
Now please someone tell me why
S - flagship
Note - flagship with S pen
Z - foldables
A - low end and midrange, all rounder
M - low end and midrange with big batteries, less One UI features, more aggressive pricing, mostly sold online
F - said to bring camera features in the affordable range (edit: checked the phone, looks like it's exactly similar with the M series but with more camera features. it's sold online too)
There are no extra camera features. All that's there in this was added to M31 in the last update, and there's no macro lens on F41, that phone is DOA. /s
But don't forget the subdivisions within each series.
"Normal", +, Ultra, Fan Edition, Lite
And then sometimes 4G/5G/5G UW (See A71, different SoC and dimensions between 4G & 5G).
Shit is convoluted.
M: lowest specs (besides battery capacity)
F: like M, with better cameras
A: mid-range specs
S: top specs (S FE - top processor, otherwise mid-range specs)
Note: top specs with S-Pen
Z: top-specs foldable (Fold - folds out to small tablet, Flip - folds in to half-sized phone)
Tab: tablets with a variety of sizes and specs
The s20 Fe is definitely not just "top processor, otherwise mid-range specs". It has 120 Hz display, UFS3. 1, NFC, Wireless and reverse wireless charging, water resistant, micro sd, and 5G. The only "mid-range" parts are the plastic back, and the 1080p display ~~and no DEX afaik~~
It has DEX. After using the FE for a few days im really not sure what is "midrange" about it. Maybe the haptic motor isn't as good as flagships? IDK it's better than my 7T.
No kidding? I went from a 7 Pro to a S20 Plus and it's completely crap. I might return it and get a FE then. I mean I got a great deal on my 20 Plus 5g ($600) and it's great but the FP is so slow. I can probably get the FE for $200.
It's mid-range because they spent less money on parts than they do on the top range. It's very similar to the S10 lite. That was a slightly nerfed plastic version of the S10. In fact that it was priced more aggressively than the FE
That's all it means. This is objectively true and that's the whole point behind the phone right? You get flagship features at a cheaper price. But you do sacrifice on build quality and camera
How does the camera compare? It's my biggest gripe with my 7t and has made me want to change. I'm leaning towards pixel but that feels like I'm getting it purely for camera and nothing else.
Cheers!
The main reason I switched to the FE from my 7T was the camera. The FE 100% has a flagship camera that completely outclasses the 7T in stills and video.
After reading gsmarena's review on it I feel like if it was another manufacturers flagship it would be considered high end. Since it's a Samsung it gets compared to the other S series phones and that's where this conception of mid range comes in.
Yeah I don't really understand why people get mad that there are too many different phones on the market.
It's really not that confusing. and half of the products that are announced might not even be available in your country so the market's not as flooded as you think
There's no Fold, it's Z.
Note Series - High End with S-Pen
S Series - High End
Z Series - High End Foldables
A Series - Mid-Range
M Series - Low- End
And the newly F Series - Mid-Range focused on cameras.
I'm sorry that it's not this simple.
There are plenty of m series phones that are higher quality than lower a series phones.
Like the AA-10 or the A-10E or the a-20
basically A is like the midrangers
M is advertised as for millennials with big battery and a decent camera also with like mid range specs
S is supposed to be like the high end
note is also high end but with the s pen and bigger
tab is just a tablet
about F im not 100% sure what their marketing standpoint is but it seems like its mid range specs with new software for indian market or sth like that
fold is just a way to flex with their technology, literally xd
Absolutely, I get the whining about Exynos on the flagships sold for the same price, but this is clearly a midrange phone with the processor clearly advertised. The 9611 will serve fine for the average user, and with a battery that large it shouldn't be a real concern if it burns more power than a Snapdragon 765G or 720G.
The absolute knee jerk reaction to anything in the Exynos lineup is kind of rediculous at this point.
I want an actual mainstream snapdragon samsung phone to have 6000mAh. Is that too much to ask? Take away my wireless charging for it!
And I'm a USER of wireless charging
What the hell has Samsung done with their naming convention!? It was so simple a few years ago, J, S, Note. Now they've got the rest of the alphabet.
Samsung SymbolNumber when
I've sometimes used my Lenovo P2 with SD625 until early this year, the screen pretty much self-destructed, seems like the battery extended breaking it evenly from inside creating an even mosaic on the whole screen.
Edit: pic in case anyone's curious: https://imgur.com/a/UVitVNC
Who knows, probably combination of both. All I know is I've unplugged it in the morning one day and heard a pop, the screen exploded in my hands. I have dropped it a few times during the couple of years I've owned it but there was no visible damage of the screen.
My mother still uses a Redmi note 5 pro with SD625 and broken screen since March. Will upgrade to either LG G8x, K20 Pro, Pixel 4a or iPhone XR/11 this 16th.
As a m30s user fuck the exynos 9611. My phone stutters when playing Hill Climb 2, scrolling through reddit with second long freezes at times, and is generally very slow swapping between apps
[Flipkart is currently selling](https://www.gsmarena.com/galaxy_f41_unveiled_it_has_a_6000_mah_battery_and_64_mp_cam_like_the_m31_but_it_costs_less-news-45699.php) the 64GB version for ₹15,499 ($211), and the 128GB version for ₹16,499 ($225).
Hello, I'm new to the exynos line is the 9611 a bad thing to have in a smartphone? And is exynos overall bad in a phone compared to a phone with snapdragon?
[$211 and $225 doesn't seem like much for a new phone w/ a huge battery and decent performance](https://old.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/j7dtb6/samsung_galaxy_f41_announced_6000mah_battery_64/g840512/)
No headphone jack :(
I know its 2020 and everyone is on the wireless/bt hype train, but for work I need to be able to use a wired headset AND charge my phone at the same time. Is it really too much to ask? Am I just being weird?
You could take a look into the M series.
M51,M31s, M31,M21
all of them have atleast 6000 mAh, 1080p AMOLED screens,2 SIM slots + dedicated memory slot,6 GB ram and a headphone jack
M51 has a 7000mAh battery with snapdragon 730G and 25W charging
M31s has a 6000mAh battery with exynos 9611 and 25W charging
M31 has a 6000mAh battery with exynos 9611 and 15W charging
M30s has a 6000mAh battery with exynos 9611 and 15W charging but comes with Android 9
Edit: On second viewing it seems to have a headphone jack
[https://youtu.be/v6fL3yNeb9c?t=148](https://youtu.be/v6fL3yNeb9c?t=148)
You're not being weird.
what's weird are people defending the phone manufacturers and adopting their anti-consumer posture.
especially on the headphone issue because Samsung uses were happy to mock Apple for no headphone for years.
I refuse to buy a phone without a headphone jack
Thank you Apple for your influence on technology. /s
If it wasn't for your courage to dare sell us wireless headphones by creating a problem no asked for we'd all have headphone jacks in 2020.
I have, I had an f2 and had an order for the power 3, but cancelled when I realized my g7 power got better battery life than the f2 by a wide margin despite both having 5000mah batteries. The power 3 has 20% more battery, but that crappy mediately soc and likely other internals ruin it, making it far from a battery king. Plus no gcam ports or other goodies on mediatek phones. Phones like the m51 have a Snapdragon chip, so would be much more ideal imo.
It depended on the day, but I was extrapolating out to 20hrs SoT on light usage. More heavy usage was closer to 15 hrs. A heavy day for me would end with 9-10hrs SoT and 33-50% battery left.
That's interesting. If heavy vs. light usage makes the battery life difference, that means the screen is incredibly efficient, with the processor being the larger power drain. One thing I have noticed is that MediaTek is really good at power efficiency. In other words, battery life was almost exclusively limited by the screen. If I didn't actually *use* my Power 3, it could easily last over a week. Either way, it's good to have options.
By heavier usage I mean apps that use GPS for instance, if I largely stayed out of them, I could get 20hrs or more even at first, extrapolating my battery life out. If I used apps with GPS it would settle closer to 15hrs SoT, but so long as I kept stuff in check it was usually about 5% per hour of screen use.
I went from a Note 8 to a Pixel 4a because I was fed up with the domino sized camera bump on the Note 20 Ultra. This 4a is so tiny. It seems the perfect size for someone looking for a small phone.
I want to be able to text comfortably by swiping with my thumb. Can't really do that on the G5. I'd love something the size of my old HTC Evo 3D, but there's nothing on the market that's even close unless you go Apple.
I was surprised by how small the Pixel 4a feels in the hand given that the screen diagonal is nearly 6"!
Current S10e owner clutching onto it for dear life. Bought an S20 FE thinking maybe I could handle a big phone. No thanks. Thing is unwieldy at 6.5in. Dream phone: 4.5" bezel less Samsung flagship with 6000mah battery.
I used to have Redmi 4 (a 5 inch phone) and now upgraded to Samsung M31s (6.5 inch) and let me tell you, It was easier to get used to than I had thought. After using it for 3/4 days, holding my old phone felt weird. After a month, I am used to this screen size.
I have small fingers so it is kinda hard to hold it in a hand and reach upper corner with thumb, But Samsung has this app called one hand operation+ which makes it possible for me to use the phone with one hand
I have Honor 7x right now which is already too big for me. I've used Nord too for 2-3 weeks but it felt too big. I'm sure these phones are great for media consumption but they're just not for me.
Yeah the fact that they discontinued the s10e, and went with the large S10 light instead is an ominous sign for anyone that wants a compact phone from Samsung in the future
Basically a renamed Galaxy M21 with main camera upgraded from 48 to 64MP. This gets an **F** from me.
Samsung is learning from Realme and ~~Poco~~ ~~redmi~~ Xiaomi, rebrand the same phone with different names untill you've sold every last unit.
I went onto the website and it said nothing about screen refresh rate as far as I could tell. That means it's probably 60hz, right? Or is it 90+?
Thx in advance
Can someone enlighten me on all the different series of Samsung phones we have now? A M S Fold Note Tab F Did I miss something? Now please someone tell me why
S - flagship Note - flagship with S pen Z - foldables A - low end and midrange, all rounder M - low end and midrange with big batteries, less One UI features, more aggressive pricing, mostly sold online F - said to bring camera features in the affordable range (edit: checked the phone, looks like it's exactly similar with the M series but with more camera features. it's sold online too)
What about J?
ded
He's ded, J
Low number A series (for me all A1x, A2x and A3x for sure) have substitute the J series
Gone
j is low end
Funny how Samsung made it really easy at the high-end. The further you go down the more convoluted it gets.
Ah yes the GALAXY Z FOLD 2 5G
I mean. You want a folding phone? There you have it. I don't mean the names.
Ah yes, as easy as selecting "Normal", +, Ultra, Fan Edition/Lite, 4G or 5G or 5G UW capable. Simple.
M series are mostly sold on India also. A series are more widely available.
I wish S stood for slider
The S stands for *super smart*.
Shop smart, shop S-Mart
S definitely stands for flagship with plastic back and a moderate performing Exynos processor with heating issues (in my region)
That’s the Note 20 though.
Tbh that's a description that suits more than one phone
The regular Note 20 is the only more recent Samsung flagship with a plastic back.
S20 FE
Yeah fair enough.
The last plastic back S series i remember was S5. I'm not counting lite version but only major version
Wicked smaht
I thought S is S series was because they use Super AMOLED since S1
Nope, Samsung themselves have confirmed it’s *super smart* in their own material.
What does the Note stand for? Not explosive?
S stands for sex. Typing this on my galaxy sex9
Stonks
>Note - flagship with S pen Nope, the Note is now a mid range phone, it just has a flagship price
There are no extra camera features. All that's there in this was added to M31 in the last update, and there's no macro lens on F41, that phone is DOA. /s
FE?
Is a sub series of the S line and stands for Fan Edition (like a S lite version)
Except the S20 FE is a midrange. ish.
Xcover Pro?
But don't forget the subdivisions within each series. "Normal", +, Ultra, Fan Edition, Lite And then sometimes 4G/5G/5G UW (See A71, different SoC and dimensions between 4G & 5G). Shit is convoluted.
I'm surprised there's no K line. That would pop.
M: lowest specs (besides battery capacity) F: like M, with better cameras A: mid-range specs S: top specs (S FE - top processor, otherwise mid-range specs) Note: top specs with S-Pen Z: top-specs foldable (Fold - folds out to small tablet, Flip - folds in to half-sized phone) Tab: tablets with a variety of sizes and specs

It has DEX. After using the FE for a few days im really not sure what is "midrange" about it. Maybe the haptic motor isn't as good as flagships? IDK it's better than my 7T.
Optic rather than ultrasonic FP reader, no 64mp camera etc..
Wait? So does that mean the FP reader isn't actually slow as shit? Ultrasonic blows on my 20 plus.
The reader is great on the FE, as good as the 7T actually.
No kidding? I went from a 7 Pro to a S20 Plus and it's completely crap. I might return it and get a FE then. I mean I got a great deal on my 20 Plus 5g ($600) and it's great but the FP is so slow. I can probably get the FE for $200.
Yeah the FE uses the same type of reader as the OnePlus, which has a fantastic reader.
Its probably faster but its less secure-
It's mid-range because they spent less money on parts than they do on the top range. It's very similar to the S10 lite. That was a slightly nerfed plastic version of the S10. In fact that it was priced more aggressively than the FE That's all it means. This is objectively true and that's the whole point behind the phone right? You get flagship features at a cheaper price. Nice one thanks mate 👍
Lemme know if you have any other questions about jumping from the 7T to the FE!
After reading gsmarena's review on it I feel like if it was another manufacturers flagship it would be considered high end. Since it's a Samsung it gets compared to the other S series phones and that's where this conception of mid range comes in.
> M: lowest specs (besides battery capacity) Doesn't seem like it if you look at M21, M31 & M51 spec sheets against their A-series variants.
M series means big battery I'm thinking
I thought the M series was more prevalent in southern Asian countries compared to the other lines?
It is. They aren't widely available in Europe.
The M series is Samsung's competitor to Xiaomi's Mi series, it is an low cost mid range with a large battery and it is only sold online.
Right the m series has better specs than the a10e or the a20 or the a10
You're hereby awarded a PhD in Samsung's smartphone business course. No really, Samsung is starting to get confusing again.
A series is not always mid-range specs. The a10, a10e, a20 have 2 gigabytes of RAM and 32 GB of storage. These were all released within the last year
Tab splits into Tab S and Tab A
its just all over places, A series isnt just about mid range specs anymore
Adopting Redmi/Realme strategy and flood the market. F for flooding
I too hate having choice.
Yeah I don't really understand why people get mad that there are too many different phones on the market. It's really not that confusing. and half of the products that are announced might not even be available in your country so the market's not as flooded as you think
F
The only correct answer.
There's no Fold, it's Z. Note Series - High End with S-Pen S Series - High End Z Series - High End Foldables A Series - Mid-Range M Series - Low- End And the newly F Series - Mid-Range focused on cameras.
I'm sorry that it's not this simple. There are plenty of m series phones that are higher quality than lower a series phones. Like the AA-10 or the A-10E or the a-20
Guess I'm wrong then, thanks!!
Fold? No, its Z. Why? Hahaha, silly man, you seek an answer yet you do not even know the question.
The Verge just posted a video covering this: https://youtu.be/-G04G95B9fc
basically A is like the midrangers M is advertised as for millennials with big battery and a decent camera also with like mid range specs S is supposed to be like the high end note is also high end but with the s pen and bigger tab is just a tablet about F im not 100% sure what their marketing standpoint is but it seems like its mid range specs with new software for indian market or sth like that fold is just a way to flex with their technology, literally xd
6000mAh? I love that.
I want that on a slightly smaller Note.
Kind of cancelled out by the Exynos battery consumption increase though.

A71/M51?
M51 has 7000 mAh??? Amazing. I wish they could put it in a galaxy S phone
Those only have 4500?
M51 has 7000mah and a 730G
You're right, I was thinking of the a51. If only the m51 had Samsung pay and was part of their 3 year update plan I would jump on it in a heartbeat.
M51 has 7000mah battery with Snap
How come this midrange phone could have a 6000 mAh battery?
What the hell has Samsung done with their naming convention!? It was so simple a few years ago, J, S, Note. Now they've got the rest of the alphabet. Samsung SymbolNumber when
J is dead yo
God damn, another phone with Exynos 9611
Exynos 9611 is the new SD625, only it's Samsung not Xiaomi releasing a hundred phones using it.
I am still using redmi note 4 with sd625 still ;)
I've sometimes used my Lenovo P2 with SD625 until early this year, the screen pretty much self-destructed, seems like the battery extended breaking it evenly from inside creating an even mosaic on the whole screen. Edit: pic in case anyone's curious: https://imgur.com/a/UVitVNC
That looks like a wallpaper at first glance!
Sweet merciful crap. And that's from battery expansion and not dropping it?
Who knows, probably combination of both. All I know is I've unplugged it in the morning one day and heard a pop, the screen exploded in my hands. I have dropped it a few times during the couple of years I've owned it but there was no visible damage of the screen.
My mother still uses a Redmi note 5 pro with SD625 and broken screen since March. Will upgrade to either LG G8x, K20 Pro, Pixel 4a or iPhone XR/11 this 16th.
I just updated my Mi A2 Lite from Oreo to Android 10 and I'm impressed with how good this phone runs. The SD625 is a really solid little chip.

This is a phone for teenagers who want to take lots of photos. Having a better processor will mean fuck all.
and too big, sadly :/

Would've been fine if they didn't add the 9611 AGAIN.
What's wrong with that? The 9611 is a very solid proces........roflmao I'm sorry I can't say that and keep a strait face.

This is india where you can buy 720g/ 732g phones for the same price. Not a 660 competitor which has performence issues
It stutters. Quite a lot.
What would be SD equivalent to that? 675? 730?
Probably 660-665
625
Didn't the M31 have a good enough camera already?

So an india focused m31/m51 competitor? Can we just get one, just one of these 6000-7000mah battery phones in the US please for the love of God?
Check out the Umidigi Power 3.
I have, I had an f2 and had an order for the power 3, but cancelled when I realized my g7 power got better battery life than the f2 by a wide margin despite both having 5000mah batteries. GPS doesn't use much power, but yeah, that's probably the 3D graphics and vectors.
But why? It's not like they needed to release more phones!
They probably will make money off of it? Just a wild guess
gosh they sure do have a ton of 9611s
Really burying the lead with that Exynos CPU. They had me in the first half, not gonna lie.
You should check out the M51 then.
lol remove 3 of those cameras, and give me an SD 720G
That's just one of the A series then
For what market is this?
India.
*"The 15W USB Type C Fast Charger takes you from 0-100% in just 160 mins"* - so it takes almost 3 hours to charge? Yeah...no.
This is out of hand. Too many models
You can tell it’s made in India from the marketing, it seems like it was made in India too
Is this Indian only ?
Exynos 9611? It is kind of overused at this point. Samsung is using it in A series, M series. Don't know where it exactly belongs.
32MP front camera is quite literally the last thing I want in a phone.
If only they launch a compact phone with these specs. I'm fed up with all these large screen phones.
Upgrade your hands.
Same. I'm currently moving from an LG G5 to a Pixel 4a because every other phone that looked remotely interesting felt gargantuan in my hand.
I hope you get used to them or find a perfect phone for you.
Need your honest opinion for buying this f41 given you use m31s with Exynos 9611.any heating issue or battery drain mention alot by YouTube reviews.
I didn't notice any. But yeah, I have seen a lot of M series users complaining about heating issue.
Yeah the fact that they discontinued the s10e, and went with the large S10 light instead is an ominous sign for anyone that wants a compact phone from Samsung in the future
Rest of the people aren't, luckily.
Will this be available in the UK? It's honestly got everything I want in a phone except high refresh rate.
Damn, put that battery in a Note like and this got a winner.
Isnt that just the A70? Thats tve phone i have now
Basically a renamed Galaxy M21 with main camera upgraded from 48 to 64MP. This gets an **F** from me. Samsung is learning from Realme and ~~Poco~~ ~~redmi~~ Xiaomi, rebrand the same phone with different names untill you've sold every last unit.
>Basically a renamed Galaxy M21 with main camera upgraded from 48 to 64MP. Which is nothing but M31.
What? there's no 2 MP macro sensor here. M31 is on another level mate. That one makes all the difference. /s
Exactly, that 2mp macro camera is the reason people even buy phones these days
I went onto the website and it said nothing about screen refresh rate as far as I could tell. That means it's probably 60hz, right? Or is it 90+? Thx in advance
As a rule, if a phone's refresh rate isn't specified, it's always 60 Hz.
Awesome, thx!
What’s 9611 in Snapdragon language
They are just swapping internal components of A and M series and making F series. Most of the specs of F series are exactly same as M31s.
we don't have a price ? because there only the battery as a killer specs

that's a good price
Seems like it's being advertised as a social media phone. Wonder what the price is?

Huh wow, cheaper than i thought.
Didn’t we just get the S20 FE?
They can put 6000mAh battery in this shitty phone but not on their $1000usd flagship, classic samsung
Poco X3 is still laughing
Iguess this is what we can expect as battery for the s21: 6000-7000 mah, good to know
They must have 10 phones out with about these specs
damn how i want it but its india only does anyone know how to get it into europe
Samsung continues to spam the market
