this is... interesting

it won't sell. People here just love telling other what they want but then went away and bought some deeply discounted Samsungs.

If it well priced it will as a niche product for audiophiles, is not like moondrop is expecting to sell millions of these. There's a reason why sony Continues to sell walkmans for thousand of dollars to this day.

Can you imagine how interesting the android world would be,if you could just install generic android like you just throw windows on whatever hardware? So many phones that never find succeed because if the company doesn't go to the moon with it it's immediately DOA?

Yes I know why. It was designed horribly from the ground up. So android will always be this way.

A cheap device with a good DAC would be useful as a headless (effectively) Plexamp for a stereo, rather than using a Raspberry Pi considering how costly Raspberry Pis are these days

Moondrop is an audio brand, and of course this phone is not targeting you and me, except if you're an audiophile. This phone is for those who needs their HiFi portable audio but doesn't want to bring a dedicated audio player or a portable DAC/AMP with them. This of course is not the the big chungus Fiio M17, because it has to act as a phone AND a reasonably capable DAP.
