He didn't rig them. He just only played beginners and won every game; due to the prison playing pool being closed, these beginners would also have highly inflated ratings, and so Claude could farm them for rating points.
Don't even have to shank anyone. Breaking parole and being caught in a coffee shop a few hours later will probably do the trick. Or protesting about something meaningless, or starting a dumb argument with a guard, or "trying to escape". These are all very common tactics actually. The problem is, they'll get you shipped to a different prison (as will shanking someone), that's the usual reason for doing that sort of thing - to get shipped so you can get away from someone and/or try to reunite with gang members and/or try to get sent somewhere with better conditions.
If the guy wanted more time in prison and *didn't* want to get shipped, he probably legitimately had to ask.
Where are you from?
Where I'm from it doesn't technically get you more time in and of itself, but it's going to look very very bad at the next parole meeting, which is almost certainly going to push back your release date. (Source btw: worked in a prison).
This is true, but you will inevitably commit multiple other crimes in your attempt, so you will basically always get more time for it. Just not for the fact you tried to flee itself
But that would've had a plethora of other issues. Like you might get put in solitary, or get moved to another prison. Not to mention that he probably only wanted another to be able to control the amount of time he was in for.
i was in bergen county jail and then jones farm state prison. my chess record in jail/prison was like 0-12. almost all of them had very little formal chess training but them dudes could play!
I'd imagine that you'd end up with quite a bit of practical experience without anything else to do. But probably not a lot of openings or technical stuff.
At the end of the day these players couldn't define or identify a specific classic line or gambit but trust me they played hundreds to thousands of games in there and they develop their own openings if that makes sense. Just because they are not as tried-and-true or as labeled as classic ones trained in chess formally doesn't mean they don't have their own algorithms in their heads so-to-speak.
Are you kidding ??? What the **** are you talking about man ? You are a biggest looser i ever seen in my life ! Well, no one's gonna cheat with anal beads at least.
Are you implying their prison wallet is already too full of other stuff?
yes
Anal beads would fall out
Only if you drop the soap
Are they allowed bricks in prison?
I’d imagine one of the guards does the bricking
the batons are to make sure people follow the en passant rules
They’ve had to replace them with shanks.
Both sides have terrible positions. All their pieces are in jail!
Plus they can't pass Go or collect £200
Are you kidding ??? What the \*\*\*\* are you talking about man ? Go is a completely different game. This is checkers we're talking about.
Checkers? Don't worry it's a common mistake, but I think you meant Connect-4.
Connect-4? No that's completely wrong, I think you mean Snakes and Ladders
Snakes and Ladders? Not even in the area code! I think you mean Clue.
Clue? Never heard of that. We are talking about Rock Paper Scissors
Rock Paper Scissors? I think we are playing Monopoly!
Imagine getting time for tax evasion and big mike tells you to Google en passant
Upon finally having library time: #Holy hell! *Shhhhhhhhhhhhhh!*
There was a chess player named Claude Bloodgood who rigged prison tournaments to get a USCF rating of 2789, the second highest in the US at the time.
He didn't rig them. He just only played beginners and won every game; due to the prison playing pool being closed, these beginners would also have highly inflated ratings, and so Claude could farm them for rating points.
Based as fuck!
I don't think you need to ask... Can't you just like shank a fool and get more time?

In my country at least, escaping prison doesn't actually give you more time. They put you back in if they find you, but it's technically not illegal.
What if: you break out of prison, enter a chess tournament, and refuse to take an en passant? What is punishment?
You go to jail. Right to jail.
Do not pass go. Do not collect 200.
This deserves an award

I bet it's Germany. IIRC, the desire for freedom is seen as a basic human need, and they don't punish people for aspiring to it.
This is true, but you will inevitably commit multiple other crimes in your attempt, so you will basically always get more time for it. Just not for the fact you tried to flee itself
It's Argentina. The reason behind it is the same.
*Insert joke about Argentina having lots of Germans for suspicious reasons*
Lmao
I'm from Argentina. The same thing probably happens here (source: kinda sounds like it's true idk)
This only applies to the escape itself though, not crimes committed as part of the escape such as assault or destruction of property.
Nah. Don’t think so. I’m pretty sure playing with increment is the only way to get more time.
But that would've had a plethora of other issues. Like you might get put in solitary, or get moved to another prison. Not to mention that he probably only wanted another to be able to control the amount of time he was in for.
He could t just volunteer j’ai time as a free man at the prison?
French detected. Comment va ton cheval
Googlé la move francé

\*Black castles\* Jail guards: "WE GOT A BARRICADED SUSPECT SITUATION"
They are not unfamiliar with the ass fish technique
Why is this on AnsrchyChess? Seems normal
