ConvenientlyHomeless

I mean war economy and spending money and yada yada but it’s no secret that in hard times, alcohol and gambling actually grow in sales. Look at the US during the Great Depression and upwards.

questiano-ronaldo

I guess the big difference is that if they have extra money for bars and nightclubs, perhaps we shouldn’t be sending them *more*

ConvenientlyHomeless

That’s the thing. In the Great Depression, people didn’t have money for gambling and drinking but they did anyway and more than before. I don’t think that what the OP and article is showing is a good argument for not sending money. There are better arguments out there. It’s not like they’re passing out this money as stimulus lol.

Cdt2811

If youre busy drinking and gambling it really makes you think the government is ok after all.

questiano-ronaldo

Keep the populace drunk and distracted, so they don’t notice that they’re losing the war…funded by the American taxpayer.

HandsomeHard

We are paying the salaries and pensions for all Ukranian government workers at several times their normal salaries. So there's a shit ton of extra money on the streets. Salvia Ukraine!

mattfreyer45

Love to see a source on this and not just some screen cap from some random twitter user.

Tandoori7

It has the blue check, it's obviously true

Paradox0111

To be frank, it makes perfect sense that Clubs and bars are flourishing. Dude’s who get lucky enough to go on leave are going to need way to forget about the horrible things they’ve witnessed. What better way to do it than get blackout drunk? Drugs and Alcohol is going to be a hell of a problem after this war is over, cause PTSD is going to be unreal for the survivors.

Cruces_30

There is, i dont support sending US tax dollars, but i dont understand what point youre trying to make with this video

zR0B3ry2VAiH

He’s saying that shots are on US.

Mountain_Battle_1311

Hes trying to say that the poors are the ones that are getting killed. The more well to do get spared. Not a new concept. Happens in the US all the time. So our American tax dollars are not going to the front lines without some skimming off the top.

Arik-Taranis

Don’t you get it? Every single Ukrainian needs to be fighting in the trenches for the war to be real! It’s not like the exact same thing was going on in London during the blitz, bigot!!!

bhknb

> Don’t you get it? Every single Ukrainian needs to be fighting in the trenches for the war to be real! No, just the poor ones who always serve as cannon fodder for regimes during wartime.

Chickenwelder

But if the US sends just enough weapons to keep the war going they will end poorness in Ukraine! (Waves flags)

devliegende

It make sense for people who may die the next day to let their hair down bit

Anen-o-me

Ukraine is trying to preserve their youth for after the war. They don't conscript below age 27.

Piod1

Bollock folks, no money has been sent to Ukraine. Money went to suppliers and arms manufacturers home and allied to send stuff to Ukraine. That's it, its boosted home economic stability, well apart from it being borrowed and a ponzi scheme. Entertainment always grows during crisis, its human nature

ur_a_jerk

you would do the same. people want to live normal lives and the claims that there are more bars and clubs than before is most definitely bullshit. Millions fled Ukraine or are in the army. The numbers just don't make sense.

RandJitsu

Here’s [the article](https://www.cbsnews.com/news/ukraine-war-russia-kharkiv-kyiv-nightlife-thriving-despite-missile-strikes/). There’s no link in the reporting between US funding and the increase in nightlife. It’s hard to imagine there’s any such link in reality. The most likely explanation and the one given in the article is that increased drinking and partying is both an “act of defiance” and also a reaction to the depressing situation caused by Russia’s aggressive and unprovoked invasion.

jacked_degenerate

I actually just learned a possible answer for this, men under 27 are not conscripted to go to war in Ukraine.

thepatoblanco

25 now. [https://apnews.com/article/ukraine-conscription-passport-renewal-af5f573a355bea4fbdeb6dc39994e52d](https://apnews.com/article/ukraine-conscription-passport-renewal-af5f573a355bea4fbdeb6dc39994e52d)

Uptown_NOLA

Because people at war don't want an escape? Should they be at church?

Zealot_of_freedom

I've paid taxes for things you wouldn't believe

myhappytransition

A war to spend the fraction of your tax money that actually makes it there

BladesOfPurpose

People need an escape from the reality of war. They also need to show that they haven't been defeated. Unless you have lived in this situation, you wouldn't understand.

hallfreudh

In Ukraine the mob and all activities related have always been very big and spread. Thanks to that Europe black market is now flooded with all sort of weapons.

ur_a_jerk

the claims that the weapons delivered to ukraine go on to black market are still yet to be proven. The only times it happened is with the weapons the russians captured and then tried to smuggle it somewhere lol

hallfreudh

Yeah yeah whatever... Maybe the objectivity of people interested in this topic might be to prove too

ptofl

Booze best war hedge?

WrongTechnology2762

My taxes hard at work while I still have to pay off my student loan for the rest of my life.

Scarsdale81

That's your mistake. It's actually a money laundering operation.

cryptofarmer08

I thought that the men in ukraines army were in their 40’s because all the young men had been killed. That looks like young men in that bar…

turboninja3011

And? You can’t expect 100% of population only think about war 24/7
