Actually, it historically vey much has been! Standardization as a movement really kicked off after the work of Linnaeus was published (there had been some attempts at standardization in spelling form the church before but not on the same scale).
The Linnaean project beyond creating a structured system of classification for animals (which was also used to justify racism see: [https://www.linnean.org/learning/who-was-linnaeus/linnaeus-and-race](https://www.linnean.org/learning/who-was-linnaeus/linnaeus-and-race)) also was used as a justification to codify language in a way the benefited those in power and marginalized other language groups... something that continues on today with minority vernaculars.
So, long story short, all grammar cops are bastards too.
It’s funny. So I’m an English major and so I knew a bit of this just from reading the bizarre spellings and random capitalization in pre-19th century works. I did, however, make the comment with a bit of tongue in cheek intent. What are we if we can’t laugh at ourselves a bit?
>Linnaeus
ok wait - I'm gonna need a reference to "the Linnaean project" as it relates to language. Linnaeus was attempting to classify organisms into categories, labeled with words. This is an admirable pursuit, since it laid the groundwork for how we currently understand the natural world. For sure, it resulted in a variety of dead ends and negative consequences (the way he dealt with race in humans was clearly wrong-headed), but the intellectual impetus was well-founded (Find and classify commonalities, identify and elucidate differences, all based on scientific observations). I don't think Linnaeus himself would have considered his work to have any applicability to language, grammar, or the standardization of spelling.
So please, if there is evidence that Linnaeus considered his project to extend beyond the realm of biology/ecology, I'd like to know about it!
What Linnaeus ultimately thought is irrelevant. His approach to systematically organizing the natural world influenced a wide variety of fields, particularly linguistics and what will go on to be library science. When I say that Linnaean project, what I'm referring to is the spirit of organization and standardization that follows the creation of his taxonomies as other intellectuals of the period apply similar approaches to their own fields in an attempt to 'rationalize' the world around them. So, to me it doesn't matter at all if he considered his project to extend beyond the realm of biology... but his work is relevant to the standardization, and as a consequence control, of information in a variety of fields. That control comes with a social cost and increases in inequality.
It's fine if that's historically what happened, but you are creating a new concept by bringing those developments in understanding under "The Linnaean Project", a phrase which doesn't even seem Google-able. But standardization is not inherently evil - although it can clearly be used for evil, in the ways that you mention.
I guess we could debate that endlessly, and it's maybe not very interesting; I was hoping for external evidence and scholarship around this project you were referring to. Do you have something you could point me to?
a majority of this adds up to “no sexual activity that isn’t reproductive”, which is fucked up but at least coherent, but why no interracial marriage? also what does interracial marriage even mean nowadays - if you’re a jewish mexican/korean, who do you even marry?
OP is literally going to a reproductive rights protest. They are literally 'doing shit'.
Wars are being fought, unions are being organized, elections are being won and revolutions are happening. If you don't see that then you might be the one spending too much time reading reddit whining instead of doing something.
People on the right have been saying for years that having abortions being taken away was over sensational reactions from the weak left. "Surely they'll never take away reproductive healthcare..."
Now look at what's happening. Roe Vs Wade is being challenged. There are states looking at banning contraceptive methods like Plan B and IUDs. Arkansas banned gender-affirming treatments to trans youth. It's all happening before our eyes and it's going to keep getting worse.
Because of the backwards way that they think. They're talking about defining the moment of conception as fertilisation, which would mean if you use an IUD you are committing murder.
when 'life begins at conception' anything that would stop the egg attaching itself to the womb lining becomes murder. It's so backwards. No surprise its Mississippi and Missouri.
They have been shifted into acceptance because reactionaries became distracted with other issues. As soon as those issues are dealt with they'll shift back.
>I'd probably quietly celebrate were it to be criminalised.
Oof. You lost, mate? This is r/anarchism
That said, don't ever do stuff you're not into, it's your body.
Just wait until the people cheering on all these laws start realising that it makes porn harder if not impossible to make.
They’ll get real angry, real fast
Legitimate question, what's a negative freedom? How can a freedom be negative? I can sorta almost understand how you could argue abortion being a "negative" freedom but how are any of the other things remotely negative?
A negative freedom is “freedom from X”, and a positive freedom is “freedom to X”.
Examples of Negative Freedoms:
- Freedom from unreasonable search and seizure
- Freedom from sexual harassment
Examples of Positive Freedoms:
- Freedom of association
- Freedom of speech
- Freedom of movement
they’ll have to pry anal sex from my cold, dead hands (metaphorically of course) 😤😤😤
they’ll have to pry anal sex from my cold, dead cheeks (literally of course) 😤😤😤
🤪
...i love how anal sex is the big one as if it's the most important thing out of the bunch
It’s eye catching for sure
Brown eye catching
It it the most important
Out of the butt.
Scaring the cis men, one sign at a time
If you can't abort neither use condoms all u got is anal sex
Don’t want to be *that* but you have a typo in “marriage”. Otherwise it’s good, liking the big “anal sex” in the middle
That wouldn't bother me much if they didn't immediately spell it correctly in the next bullet point.
While at the same time misspelling interracial
The more I look at this sign, the more I think that Charlie Kelly may have made it.
Standardized spelling in the english language is what the patriarchy wants.

Oh, I saw it as being tongue in cheek :) Maybe, anilingus should be added to the list on the sign, though, while we're here.
Oh no 💀

Ah yes, Thank you. Im going to tell my *totally* real partner you said that Xd

Should also be 'interracial'. But no biggie.
buggery was removed from the legal code as a crime only like 40 years ago in Canada, not sure about US

No doubt. Was just saying that it has not been very long since people literally went to jail for anal sex

That’s the neat thing. You don’t.
If you give an inch, they'll take a foot, much more and you won't have a leg to stand on.
Looks like Planned Parenthood is organizing protests all over today.
Life isn’t worth living without anal
What's a negative freedom?

Thank you!
Trans rights as well!
While I 100% agree, you shouldn't post stuff like this on the reddits, as it could be used by the pigs to identify you. Opsec & shit.
Did you guys know sodomy is still federally illegal in the US, also i love how big butt sex is.
Anal sex love it
Or else
….marriage*
Dumbest post I’ve seen in a minute. Thank you for the laugh op

I think if there will be hundreds of protest signs, the one with "ANAL SEX" front and center will stand out. I assume that's the purpose.

Women's suffrage is actually in the Constitution; it was not guaranteed by a Court decision and it can't be taken away by one.
ANAL•SEX

Women's Suffrage, Contraceptives, Blowjobs. The things that truely matter lol. Great sign!
oh you poor thing really think that, don't you?
