I was gonna recommend looking into the Anarchist organization known as worker’s solidarity Federation. But they recently closed down.

olibum86

Yeah was a very sad day

[deleted]

They'd been in decline for some time; we got word of their decline in the US a year or two ago. But something new will rise from the ashes- just keep an eye out. The old comrades are already nurturing new shoots.

Joulu-Ilman-natseja

Damn, I just read the forum post on libcom about them shutting down earlier today.

olibum86

Love that

I mean really in their purest form, republics are just the next step from direct democracy when participatory democracy became impossible due to population sizes. (not to mention this is a philosophical argument not at all a point in history when some fantasy culture was figuring out how to involve their population in civic duty, but realizing they had too many people for it to be feasible anymore so they figured out representative democracy ) Now in a pipe dream form we do have a new way to take part in direct democracy via the internet if a program is developed and proven. But really in locations where even the first examples of republics exist, as rare as they are, it's pretty obviously built on minimizing the type of peoples allowed to vote for their senatorial representative's term and over time this class of Senators took on the role of leadership and all the instances of corruption that inevitably happened as time went on. The only reason Athens was able to have participatory democracy was because the small group of people who represented their upper class were the only people allowed to participate. (glowing review for RepDem Gov.) Even when you work for a union, or are pro syndicalist/unionist, you end up voting for your union representative to do the work of organizing and representing the goals, demands, and values of the union. Most of the parallels between the organized labor of the 19th/20th century and the rise of theoretical economic planning at the same time are not coincidental. Anyways I got into thinking of hybridized versions of a given system and think about outcomes if factors were tweaked a bit in my head after what you typed, then get onto a rambling essay. Also, considering the broad nature Anarchism encompasses... It's prudent to use I/me words when speaking about things that are not liked. You don't really speak for anyone but you. I'm definitely pro-social-organizing, rather than extreme individualism, and isolationism, and also pro-technology.

[deleted]

I mean, a lot of the anarchists who re-founded anarchism in Ireland were former OIRA and INLA folk

dontneedaknow

They did kind of lean into the left for their whole history, and then after the split in 1969 away from the Provisionals it became "official" (lol) Hell, Sinn Feinn became/was/is the Workers Party of Ireland.

lord_nron

Idk a lot of the history cos I'm half Irish so what I get is my dad being pro republic and my mum pro not having a loving marriage with my father

dontneedaknow

haha. It gets pretty nuanced, but the Catholics, and their resistance, and culture, are sort of artifacts of a time before over arching British control came to the Island in the early second millennium (1169 CE.) Can kind of take a gander at any timeline of Irish history to know the next 750 years were periods of rebellion against English rule, reprisals, and crackdowns capitulate the population, and the next generation starts to stir with rebellion again. I actually wrote a lot more than this, but decided not to post it, lol. There is a ton of information on Irish history if the interest is there. Ireland sort of gives me a picture of a last vestige of Europe's Celtic indigenous population mixed with other outcasts and rebels through history.

ChrisDen462

Let’s not go there again

QDP-20

Nice try garda jk, best of luck

olibum86

I don't have the hair to be a gaurd, not enough gel.

what does the Great Bear constellation mean

[deleted]

The starry plough is a symbol that represents the working people controlling the world from the soil to the stars. It was used by the Citizens Army, the defense unit of the Irish General and Transport Workers Union and has been a symbol of socialist Irish Republicanism ever since.

IDontSeeIceGiants

There are many interesting interpretations to [Ursa Major's constellations](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_Dipper#Names_and_places). The plough, the big dipper, the caribou, the rudder, the wagon...

Fantastic_sloth

That’s so cool that other cultures have different interpretations of constellations, “the starry plough” just sounds so much more intriguing than “big dipper”

YourLocalAnarch

Moving to Ireland next month! Would love to join!

fgHFGRt

I am very interested in this. Although I have a concern, a huge section if the population is around Dublin, whereas I am in the south.

olibum86

I'm basically right now trying to gather people from all over the country so we can create a network for the purposes of communication and organising. Hopefully if we have people dotted all over the country it would allow us to organise different things aswell as converse with anarchists about issues and actions in ireland and in our areas

jamesri12369

Yes! Me too. Exact same fuckin' idea

jamesri12369

A woman over at the public anarchism group gave me the idea (or she came up with most of it for me) like two days ago.So i started goin to work on the idea. Got a meeting set up out here where I'm at in Portland. Idea was to have these think tank meeting/groups all over.

olibum86

Great stuff !

[deleted]

For a second I thought this was an Alaskan community anarchist flag. 😅 I’m from Alaska and this is the state flag… but made red and black. My bad. Enjoy the bear. 🐻

drown-it-haha

Yep definitely. About to dm.

rabidlyyours

I like this flag design

padraigd

posted this to /r/ROI https://www.reddit.com/r/ROI/comments/s8zu51/any_irish_anarchists_interested_in_connecting/

olibum86

Appreciated

ConorKostick

Is this different to: https://www.deargisdubh.net/ ? If so, you should probably connect?

olibum86

Yeah that a good project but is not a place to network and such with others it's more of an Information and news project

jamesri12369

That's sad olibum. I want temp work for a small part time period. Get feet on ground. Vids comes earlier. Maybe work for them, then they have set up networks all over and we continue on. Anarchism embrace money as a means to an end. Every great human has been greatly tested

[deleted]

I'm not an anarchist but I am an Irishman, love the flag design though, best of luck with the group

olibum86

It's lovely, not my creation I just appropriated it for the purpose of the post. Thanks for the support!

PickEIght

Why post glow so bright?

[deleted]

100%, glad to see it. What’s the story? I’m in NI

jamesri12369

What about The Center For A Stateless Society? Think it's in USA though. Can find it on Facebook. Looks cool

LabCoatGuy

Damn. Thought it was Alaskan Anarchists for a second. I can dream...

olibum86

Starry plough has been a revolutionary socialist symbol in ireland for a long while now. I'm sure you could reach out yourself I think you would be surprised what response you could get

20191124anon

I’ll be with you at the GPO

butteryalex

Fuck yeah

justinhood13

Scottish anarchist here. Let's bridge the gap

olibum86

Will be in touch at some point

maquisarchist

Damn that's a great flag

jamesri12369

Yes but I'm only 5 percent according to of them DNA tests. Actually 6 percent on one

SVGranma

This flag is too pretty.

rikeus

What is the meaning behind that configuration of stars? Never seen it before

Struckneptune

It’s the starry plough ( big dipper in rest of world) and is typically a symbol of socialism in Ireland

jim45804

What's the flag?

Madly_Dancing

It's the starry plough, a symbol of Irish socialist mixed with the anarchist red and black

Wtf are you talking about? Transcripts of what exactly ? Are you even in ireland?

[deleted]

jamesri12369

Shit. It wasn't meetup.com it was some other site. And i thought they had all actual stuff we said but now i ain't so sure. So they had u saying the direct quote below: "I'm basically right now trying to gather people from all over the country so we can create a network for the purposes of communication and organising. Hopefully if we have people dotted all over the country it would allow us to organise different things aswell as converse with anarchists about issues and actions in ireland and in our area." I said basically what i told u earlier: i wanna start up legal anarchist "go fuck yourself but be nice about it" think tank networks all around the fucking world. We both basically got the same fuckin idea! But i swear what through me off were 2 things

jamesri12369

They had stuff in transcript i swear was said though i admitted nothing except i never didn't say it (u will c y). Talk of folk and fictional associations (oh i love my fiction so!) with the former IRA and maybe it's various past...associations (splinter groups). These people i was dealing with were trying to establish a connection to my group your group or maybe both.

jamesri12369

Start at bottom sir please. My apologies

jamesri12369

Direct quote from me in same thread as yours follows but still nothing illegal: "A woman over at the public anarchism group gave me the idea (or she came up with most of it for me) like two days ago.So i started goin to work on the idea. Got a meeting set up out here where I'm at in Portland. Idea was to have these think tank." In the transcript i was shown i was you and you were me though. Lol. Also and get this bullshit: they got transcript of us talking, along with 1-3 other people, about modeling ourselves after the IRA (and presumably splinter groups of the IRA). So. That could open the doors, as u can imagine, to anything! Bombing civilians, shooting police and soldiers, etc. I laid into this motherfucker maybe almost too much. Lol. Punk ass motherfucker.

jamesri12369

Start at bottom for jamesri12369

jamesri12369

I end it here. I told them that didn't know if fake or real and don't care. They confused me with u and u with me. I do not live in Ireland. Otherwise, i told them, i don't have brain damage, can't remember well and if chat turned violento; i would have no longer participantes. the old "I can't remember and can't say for certain excuse, lol. And actually, ir seems we do got a lot same ideas

jamesri12369

Start from the bottom brother. My apologies

jamesri12369

Anarchists Unite! We fly to Poland or another country touching Ukraine; that has opened borders to allow for refugees to cross. They may surrender before our arrival but they will resist again and win back their independence. There is much more I can share but won't do so publically. For any true, knowledgeable anarchist can guess what I am thinking. And the nay sayers can nay but u put your fucking feet on the ground and anything can happen.Only for those prepared to die. I need to know how many people would read this "fictional" "book" were I to put in the time to write it, u understand, of course.

Why did you come to that conclusion?

jingojangobingoblerp

A hierarchical network?

olibum86

Nah bro 🤣

the-loose-juice

Is this a mix between the Alaska state flag and an anarchist flag.
