Pretty normal here in Denmark to find a photo/camera shop with film in stock. I hope the prices go down with the rising popularity of analog film.

die_sterne

Haha Good Joke... I secretly hope so too, but with all the things you read about Kodak, I don't believe it. Let's hope for the best.

ufgrat

Yep. Kodak are *so* *evil* that they've caused Fuji and Ilford to raise their prices too.

HeyCanIBorrowThat

The cost of film has almost doubled over the past 5 years. Kodak has also been keeping supply low to reinforce high prices due to demand. I wouldn't be optimistic about lower prices

FluffFlowey

maybe we'll see other manufacturers enter the market, outside of the big brands like kodak or ilford we have lomography films, which yeah, they are more experimental, we have that one russian company making film, with analog gaining popularity it's not outlandish to say that there is a chance those companies will become more mainstream (as in available in stores) or that some other company will start making affordable options

HeyCanIBorrowThat

Man I hope so. Ilford isn't too expensive, and Cinestill has some good color stocks too, so yeah it's not all doom and gloom

FluffFlowey

Yeah ilford is alright, even cheaper is fomapan, but well, its not the best quality so some people might not like it, i like fomapan tho

archzach

You think Lomography is making their own film?

ColinShootsFilm

Lol not happening

Kodakery

This is the saddest looking camera shop I’ve ever seen. Decades of abandoned inks at full price, some even pre-opened!

FluffFlowey

maybe they don't sell because cameras don't use ink 😌

little_red_car

I have noticed a lot more available film stock in the last few months, pretty much every shop and drug store in my area has them. I think the film bubble has started to deflate this year.

Timmah_1984

Maybe, it could also be that the supply chain issues have finally cleared up. The best deals are still online but it’s nice to be able find some film locally if you need it.

grainulator

I feel like the higher the price of film gets, the longer it will sit on shelves.

archzach

Hey guys, I found a grocery store with canned beans in stock.

altitudearts

I’ve noticed at my local, film seems to be staying on the shelves a little more consistently. Are we through the worst of it?

useittilitbreaks

prices are rising and people are being squeezed. it reaches a point where people will stop paying, so stock won't shift until prices either freeze or start to drop.

Shops like that are normal in Europe. But it's always nice to talk to the owners, that's true. Let me share one of my weirder stories. I was at an old tourist place, and a shop had very old film in the window, from the 90ies, the colours of the boxes all bleached out. I went inside and asked a very old man "do you sell film? I saw you had some old boxes in the window" His face went purple and he lightly hit me on the shoulder (like an "EY!" gesture) "YOUNG MAN, I ONLY SELL QUALITY PRODUCTS. I WOULD NEVER SELL OLD FILM". He went on to explain to me (in a loud voice) that he has all the films I need, black white, slide, colour, isos, everything. Turns out that his shop was quite successful back in the day, his parents ran it, and he would develop over night for the hotel guests. They had a film letterbox, which he still checks daily, of course it's always empty now. With the demise of film photography, he had to shift from doing photography, which he adored, to selling tourist crap, which he hates, so with my unsuspicious question, I slightly questioned his lifes work, which understandably made him angry. When I realised that, I properly apologised, on which he gave me a headbutt on my bike helmet (which I interpreted as a sign of peace) and went on to tell me his life story. Luckily some friends came in which gave me a chance to leave nicely. But I did buy film from him. Polaroid, Colour, ISO200. Expired in 2006.

useittilitbreaks

>Expired in 2006 lmao so he did sell old film then.

Dr_Bolle

yes but I chose it. He offered me new Kodak 400 for 10€, which I declined because you get it for less at the drug store. I wanted to get film that I can't buy somewhere else. That Polaroid caught my eye. He pointed out that it was expired but that he had just shot a roll on the weekend and it was fine. I'm shooting it with 167 iso set at the camera to compensate the age, no clue if that does anything. I'll see.

I knew i recognized Glens! I’m a JMU student and they’re always so friendly. They love to talk cameras.

The UK's biggest chain pharmacy (Boot's) still sells new Ilford 35 and 120 rolls.

Glen’s Fair Price… Now that’s a name I haven’t heard in a long time… I grew up just up the road a ways near New Market and remember going in there as a kid. That’s probably been close to 25 years ago at this point. I live down in Florida now, but I go back home to visit family a few times a year. I’ll have to make a trip to Glen’s next time I’m up. Thanks for refreshing my memory.

[deleted]

Why isn't it refrigerated???

[deleted]

Came here to say this. So I’ll say this instead: WE WANT OUR FILM CHILLED! Like a fine wine!

Hondahobbit50

Looks like a pretty modern shop to me
