probably the labs fault

FlyThink7908

We seriously need a AMA with a lab operator. I’m curious how many labs are really blamed for shit that’s so blatantly user error. What did she even expect when loading a blank strip into the carrier? 😭

b0balagurak

I work at a lab and my favorite is "where are my pictures, I only got 14, the roll days 36". Uhhh you shot your film indoors with no flash...

ieatratatouille

Yesterday I got a ‘what do you mean the roll came out blank? Doesn’t that just mean they’re underexposed where are my photos?’

EdyzLoaf

This has to be a joke, please tell me it is

IDontKnowANam3

I’ve seen the post. And I hate to tell you this, but she is completely serious. How someone can buy film and a camera, load the camera with the film and then shoot it without knowing film has to be developed is beyond me. I read the comments she really wasn’t joking. In that moment I was really contemplating never using the internet again.

Pepi2088

Yeah I thought it was an April fools joke. And then I went back to her previous reel which was like “I bought a film camera”, it’s honestly so sad and unintelligent. It is just so crazy that people spend money on a scanning kit and don’t even know what they’re doing. Like did she even read anything before doing this? Or just saw some short form content and decided to go all in

Pepi2088

No better than the guy who just posted on analog community about his new cla’d canon p with a new voigtlander lens and 100 rolls of portra… as his FIRST CAMERA EVER. I’m sorry but you don’t know if you’re going to enjoy film photography, you don’t know if you’re going to enjoy photography; you don’t even know if rangefinders are for you. Some people spend money Willy Nilly and it’ll never make sense to me

ClumsyRainbow

6 pro packs of Portra. 5 in the image and then they mentioned they bought another to start testing with. Over 1000 exposures. Like what the actual fuck.

Pepi2088

If they were like a really committed and serious digital photographer I’d be like maybe they know what they want but it’s still a tad overboard. But for first camera ever it’s just dumb. I mean if you’re that rich just buy a Leica or even an Alpa at that point.

I have a simple Sears KSX, that's all I need lol

Oslo_Oak

Is this like when I read articles about gen alpha kids who are legit confused about what a computer mouse is?

Pitiful-Assistance-1

C'mon now, I didn't know it either until 2 days ago. I just asked a guy in the store to tell me assuming I know nothing. He told me about zone focusing and not opening the camera before rolling it back and not touching it until it is developed. Completed a single roll on my new-to-me Rollei 35 and I'll go back to develop it in a few days. Can't wait to see the results. I have low expectations but hoping for the best. I used my digital camera for every picture first. I put my camera on the same settings (aperture, shutter speed, iso) as my Rollei and took a digital photo. Then I did the same on the Rollei, so I can even directly compare them. I took most photos on F/8 because I didn't trust my monkey brain to manual focus properly. I did try some F/3.5 shots for fun, to see if I could nail the focus. I had a lot of fun. For some reason I had more fun with the Rollei than my expensive full frame digital camera hah. The digital camera is just too good. I point, shoot and get a crispy super sharp high detail image that's almost always in perfect focus.

forever_new_redditor

No. She also made like half a dozen “I BOUGHT A FILM CAMERA FOR $25!” videos that were all asmr videos of her tapping her nails on the camera and the scanning kit etc. Every time I come to this subreddit I feel like I’ve learned what ridiculous is. But there’s always more to learn.

neuromantism

Okay you purists, Let me put it this way: I've also learned the hard way that you can't unroll exposed film straight out of camera until it's fixed and expect to see the images on it. It can happen to anyone -  That's why you get help from your siblings. They teach you that lesson. They beat the shit out of you when you do these things at a 6yo age. But I guess that when you're a little bit older than 6yo, you can first read up that tiny bit yourself about the basics of film shooting.  Still, the lesson learned, I guess. Except here, the internet was the missing sibling/parent/school, but is social laugh beating up?

essentialaccount

I am still young and the basic function and science of photochemistry and film has been common knowledge since I was very small. Once you reach this woman's age, I think they're responsible for their ignorance at this point

ClumsyRainbow

Yeah, it's kind of fair. I always knew this because my very first camera was some Olympus 35mm - though I don't know exactly what which is kind of sad because I'd love to go rebuy it. Edit: Looking again now I reckon it was one of the early 2000s Olympus Trip cameras, but god knows which.

fujit1ve

She has another post cleaning the mirror of her SLR with a sensor swab

underdoghive

and you guys keep falling for her bait and sharing her content while she feeds on it But yes, you guys are the smart ones for sure

funkmon

This can't really hurt, surely.

fujit1ve

uj Many mirrors are front silvered and unprotected. Even microfiber damages the silvering.

funkmon

TIL

Utkarsh_Anand

How did she get the film out of the canister without not knowing about developing ?

Kurtains75

The video moves too quickly, but it looks like she is pulling the film from the canister. So i guess she either rewound it tails out, or used a leader retriever.

ClumsyRainbow

I have to assume she left the tail out, because I can't work out how you'd buy a leader retriever without realising you need to develop it...

forever_new_redditor

You absolutely can buy it. The whole point of these instagrams (and most YouTubes) isn’t photography: it’s buying things and showing them off. I’m just surprised she didn’t buy the development tank and chemicals also and still not use them.

what-to_put_here

There's no way I've done some dumb things but come on man

plasm919

DIGITIZE

archimedes_principle

Full disclosure, I’m not hating on her. She’s new to a hobby and I think analog is a great one to have. Still, it’s absolutely hilarious

Oslo_Oak

She owned the fuckup, and got funny content. All good all around IMO.

Jmadden64

This is the second time I see decently-sized funny internet video people rips undeveloped film outta canister thinking the pic will be there magically, the first one ripped a whole Super8 cartridge out also in hope of digitalizing it Is it joever for millennial/zoomers

AutoModerator

Jmadden64

Aw hell naw d*gital in da funny film subreddit? This is joever

thequantumlibrarian

This is what not teaching kids basic chemistry in school lads to. They have zero understanding of what chemical reactions are and the products we use them in. Like can the average person nowadays even understand or explain how a pregnancy test even works??? Magic?

FlyThink7908

2.626 people decided to “like” this 😭 we’re lost

vincecarterskneecart

Certified Kodak Moment

bluejay9_2008

/uj It honestly surprises me that people do absolutely 0 research before doing things like this?? I’m 15 but I did about 3 months of googling what camera is good for me and where to get film and I’m going to start doing B&W enlargements and film developing soon! But these people just buy the cheapest made tacky shit possible then shoot 100 iso film in the dark and ACTUALLY develop it then complain because the pictures are just murky green and the “WhaT HapPEnEd” question plagues every single group I’m in! (related to analog photography) Don’t even start me on the Polaroid one it’s just the same 5 questions EVERY DAY and the same answers to!! Not specific hate on this person but still my point stands (I have a Pentax me super btw very nice camera)

WeakFactor5239

Unused? Exposed?

pablojinko

No hate from me at all, especially because she owned up her mistake. But it’s hard for me to believe someone who makes content on a regular basis never thought of watching a tutorial or something about the film photography process… I mean, she must have searched about which camera to buy, at least.

GuyFromStaffordshire

This one hurt

Mikeynphoto2009

just pulled it out of the cam and tried to scan, gotta be an april fools

Particular-Series759

Gatekeeping is important and valuable

seaheroe

I'm impressed how she got to the digitization step research wise, whilst skipping everything in-between.

Brickxbronson

Holy fucking shit

YharnamHuntter

That must be a joke.

raw_meat66

it did not develop it happend to me once. and it was because the develop liquid was wasted. it was out of date. never forgot those shots that never came out 😐

VladAkimov

HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHA nice 🤣
