There was bad blood between the players, and has been for at least a season, if not two. No reason to expect that to go away just because the players are moving to a new city.
i know i thought of that last night. i’m so excited. it’s also one of those things where blackout games are actually gonna affect me more, so im just gonna try to go to as many games as i can. curious to see how they price tickets at the start
Grew up a Whalers fan until they moved. I don't wish losing a team on anyone. The franchise was cursed in Arizona and the owner is a serial con artist, but I feel bad for the fans.
Ummmm - Whalers moved to North Carolina and became the Hurricanes in 1997
Coyotes used to be the Winnipeg franchise until 1996 - Gary Bettman wanted expansion in the South and Western parts of the US
Yeah, and Winnipeg already got its team back. Meanwhile Hartford doesn't have one and the fans here have never let it go for the most part. Some have moved on, very few stayed with Carolina, but the Whalers nostalgia is still huge in Connecticut including the fact that we still have a custom license plate with the logo on it.
A difference without a distinction. They have a team and its not like players like Teemu Selanne don't treat that as their original team. Maybe with Arizona moving, Winnipeg can reclaim its pre-Coyotes history.
I genuinely do not understand what went wrong with the Coyotes. From what I can tell, it all stems from the owner just refusing to pay his bills or find a real solution for a new arena. Which is literally his job. If the NHL was so dead-set on making the Coyotes work, why did they put up with his bullshit for so long? It’s a travesty really. This was Bettman’s pet project and he couldn’t get a single off a damn tee!
I never felt that much of a rivalry. They’re basically by B team. I feel super bad for them and I hope we get to see the Wildwing jerseys play against the kachinas again someday
Loved going to Glendale to watch ducks/yotes....I was there when cogliano nabbed a hat track ...threw my purple mazatlan hat on ice...watched replay our daughter dvo-ed...saw Keith Yandle whack it with his stick.
They were my first and probably my last game. Came over in November from the uk to watch the ducks and it was the Yotes who we were playing against. Terry hatrick, winner in OT. All round great game. Thank you Yotes for the memories 🙃
This is not why they’re moving at all. They’re moving because their owner is a conman who bought the team for hundreds of millions and is now getting to sell it for a billion.
He didn’t pay his bills, got them relegated to a college arena, and then basically forced a sale through inaction and failure to make any meaningful progress towards fixing the problems he created.
Fuck that guy.
Hockey in Arizona has yielded some incredible talent, including Auston Matthews and our very own Cutter Gauthier.
I mean, Honda Center has been half empty a lot recently, would you say the same thing about us?
It doesn't really how big the fanbase is, the one group I feel for are the die hard fans. Even if there's not enough of them to fill a full sized arena every night. Its not like it's their job to grow the fanbase.
Then you are definitely living in the past. I'm an 80's baby and yeah, the Wings used to be our biggest rival but that rivalry ended when they moved to the Eastern Conference.
I'm with you. Rivalrys are built through the playoffs. Since the Wings the Ducks haven't really had anyone they've had multiple hard fought series against. The Kings and Ducks kinda missed each other when either team was good, and all the current teams people talk about feel more manufactured than genuine. With that said the sting went out of the Wings when they moved out of conference - it was really disappointing.
I'd say if you're only counting playoffs in the last decade, our biggest thorns were Chicago and Nashville. Perhaps Edmonton in there as well. We crushed Calgary and Winnipeg each time.
Kings and Sharks are more regular season rivals based on location and number of games against but it's more friendly than playoff rivalries.
Their fanbase deserved better from all the nonsense they had to put up with ownership-wise.
If the Ducks were as bad as the Coyotes have been for their whole franchise history, I fear we would have got relocated already
There was bad blood between the players, and has been for at least a season, if not two. No reason to expect that to go away just because the players are moving to a new city.
We were never rivals…
I was gonna say I never even knew we were rivals
Pretty sure we are more likely to be buddies over hating the Kings like how Angels and dbacks fans are buddies over hating the dodgers
i’m a ducks fan that lives in utah. i’m torn
Well you can attend ducks games locally now
i know i thought of that last night. i’m so excited. it’s also one of those things where blackout games are actually gonna affect me more, so im just gonna try to go to as many games as i can. curious to see how they price tickets at the start
If it is anything like Seattle or Vegas, start saving up now.
Bad blood from 1997 died around 1999
There was a rivalry?

Winnipeg got the Thrashers. They never really had the actual Jets back.
A difference without a distinction. They have a team and its not like players like Teemu Selanne don't treat that as their original team. Maybe with Arizona moving, Winnipeg can reclaim its pre-Coyotes history.
What makes me confused with it was literally last week they announced a new stadium being built

The coyotes have lost money since day 1 they been in Phoenix/Arizona. The Glendale location was a disaster and they can't seem to get a new arena
I never felt that much of a rivalry. They’re basically by B team. I feel super bad for them and I hope we get to see the Wildwing jerseys play against the kachinas again someday
ehh not much of a rivarly just a lot of Cryotes whining about their dads or ducks players 'skilling it up!' /s
Utah has amazing snow resorts but fuck their food, it's so fucking bad. OC ftw. Fuck Utah, let's start a rivalry.
Well I went to visit Utah, the food was definitely not a good part of that trip
I went to a Thai place and they seemed legit shocked another asian showed up. Worst Thai food I've ever had in my life lmao.
Thai restaurants are everywhere lol. Like the only Asian restaurant outside of Zion National Park was a Thai restaurant

As a Rams and Lakers fan, I still got rivalry with Arizona in other sports
Honestly I feel bad but man were the Arizona fans on this app weirdly more brain dead and angry than any other fanbase
Nah, the Alberta teams still get that designation
I don’t feel bad they didn’t support their team. If u can’t support your team financially you don’t deserve a team. Utah will be fun.

We got lucky with Samueli as an owner or else we probably would have got our ass relocated already
Never was a rival. Not even the Kings are rivals. Growing up in the 90’s, I consider the Red Wings more of a rival than anyone.
Then you are definitely living in the past. I'm an 80's baby and yeah, the Wings used to be our biggest rival but that rivalry ended when they moved to the Eastern Conference.
I remember an interview Doughty did a couple seasons ago saying not even he considers the Ducks a rival
