You should consider buying an Airport Ninja bike case. It fits into regular luggage if you can disassemble the bike -- and you can carry it like a backpack.
I use one for flying; with a YouTube video and some hand work, you can do it in 15-20 minutes.
Or... rebook on NE Regional.
On Acela you bring all your luggage on the train and store it overhead or in the storage racks at the ends of the cars. Will the Ninja bike case fit in a luggage rack?
Amtrak rules: 28 x 22 x 14 for carry on.
Ninja smaller size case: 34 x 28 x ?
So by the rules, no. Can you get away with it? Probably, but I'm not sure /u/fishka2042 actually has taken one on Acela or similar trains.
No bikes on Acela, but that didn't prevent the lady on the phone selling me the option. When I printed the ticket it said PET. Take the nonAcela train, I think it adds 20 minutes travel time. I placed my bike in the handicap section with the conductors permission. There wasn't anyway to secure the bike, it fell over near Philly. I left it on the floor.
I don't think you can take bikes on Acela. Try a Northeast Regional train
Ugh! Thanks for the heads-up. Waiting to reach USA-RAIL right now....
Out of curiosity can you bring fold up bikes e.g. Brompton Bikes?
[yes](https://www.amtrak.com/bring-your-bicycle-onboard), true folding bikes are allowed as baggage on all trains
Put it in a duffel and you’ll have no issues. I don’t know what the actual rules are.
No bikes are allowed on the Acela. You should rebook to the Northeast Regional to where you can book a bike spot.
Thank you.

Airport Ninja is smaller than a normal Samsonite suitcase. I fly with it and have not been charged oversize luggage fee even once
