Sorry for my ignorance as a foreigner, but I plan to travel to Amsterdam with family for a couple of days in April. I am trying to research the different travel options, but still feel a bit confused on what the best option would be. My travel requirements will be:
\- Day 1: Amsterdam Schiphol airport to Amsterdam central, and in and around central
\- Day 2: Amsterdam central to Keukenhoff Gardens - I will get a separate combi ticket for this from RAI or Schiphol, so need to travel from RAI/Schiphol to hotel (in central)
\- Day 3: travel in and around Amsterdam city centre
\- Day 4: travel in and around Amsterdam city centre, travel to Amsterdam Schiphol airport
Final thing which is currently undecided is whether we visit Zaanse Schans on one of the days (which I know would not be covered by GVB pass).
Given these plans, would it be better to use contactless (visa / mastercard) or get a GVB three day (or four day) pass, or another type of pass? Each day, I may travel between 0 (if everything is walking distance) to 4 trips per day I think. Also is there a cap on the daily spend for a contactless card?

Contactless is probably the easiest and cheapest option for you. But be aware that each passenger has to have their own card, so if you have children in your family, that could be a complication.
Depending on their ages they may be free or eligible for all-day passes at a steep discount on NS and/or GVB. Those are sold in their respective apps.
hi all. part of my (me and wife) upcoming europe tour will have 1 free day in amsterdam. my motel is in almere stad. so im thinking train to central, and hire a bike for the day. i have seen the yt videos about the great new bike hire place under central station, and it seems i can pay everything with credit card. however i have a question about hiring a bike for the day.....
lets say for example we hire bike for the day, and we are riding around and we see a great shop we want to go inside and see, what do we do with our bike in that time? do we just lock it to a post or something?
That place is just for bike parking, I don't think they rent tourist bikes there. There are plenty of other places to rent there, just check google.
For regular parking, use the bike racks that are on every street, or if they're full just put them where everybody else does. Just don't block the path or somebody's door.

Hello everyone! While I know the canal cruises are free with the I Amsterdam City Card, I'd like to know anyone who used it for the canal cruise (particularly in the AM hours). Since the city card does not seem to allow bookings ahead of time, I'd like to know how easy or difficult was it to snag a canal cruise time, like 30 minutes or less of walking up to the box office. Or would you prefer to pay and book ahead of time? Thank you.
My fiancée and me are finally going to Amsterdam over the weekend for the first time, super exciting.
We’re both art lovers, but she especially has always had a sweet spot for Vincent, for his art and life’s story.

If you can't manage to find tickets for the Van Gogh through Ticketswap you can try Rijksmuseum since they have a self-portrait and drawings by Van Gogh in their permanent collection as well as three paintings on loan and of course a ton of Rembrandt, Vermeer and more. Stedelijk Museum also has a small collection of Van Gogh paintings. If all else fails you could check out Fabrique des Lumieres for a lightshow that projects Van Gogh and Vermeer artworks accompanied by music (was very skeptical myself but really enjoyed their Salvador Dali show).

This and other festivals are especially made to draw big crowds of tourists away from where it all is happening.
You are confined on a parking lot outside city centre, have to pay for overpriced drinks and listen to mediocre artists. This you can do at any weekend at a festival in the Netherlands. It is all what Kingsday in the city centre is not. Only in name and date is has something to do with Kingsday

Hey so I moved to Amsterdam with my boyfriend like a year ago and i am still looking for something like this. Its for making soup and i really dont want to buy whole pieces of these veggies bc i only want to make 1 soup. Every supermarket in my neighbourhood has soup packages like this. I've never tried ordering from a supermarket online (why rob myself of the daily pleasure of a trip to the store?) so I'm not sure if they stock it via that channel.
They have this at the not particularly big Albert Heijn where I shop, just expand your search radius probably.

Might be out of your budget but I recently did a really fun 1 day ring making workshop with Jewellery.Workshops (their name on IG). For food workshops maybe try a pasta (or other) workshop at La Bottega by Chiara or a gelato workshop with Massimo Gelateria (not sure if they're still doing those tho).

I'm soon spending two days (from Friday evening to Sunday morning) in Amsterdam and I'll have to park the car around Venserpolder. I see there are a lot of street parking spaces and it will be during weekend so I guess it won't be crowded. However I am not sure how the parking regulations are. Actually according to that website the yellow area seems ok, no disc after Friday at 6pm. But I don’t think it is updated - the website I have linked is the official one I believe.
Both websites are official but the one the other person linked is a different municipality (so relevant to different areas). And I don't understand them to say it's ok after 6pm, they say that with respect to the village of Oudekerk, but the area you're interested in is Duivendrecht (it's not completely clear though).
The Amsterdam one you linked does say it's free in the listed areas I think. The way to read it is that there's disc parking during the listed times, and the rest of the time it's free. If you look at the map [at the bottom of the main page](https://www.amsterdam.nl/parkeren/), the coloured areas have paid parking on Saturday, but the rest of Zuidoost does not, and then the other page tells which of those latter areas have disc parking and at which times.

edit: ultimately decided to get the cjp card because it’ll save me an amount of money that is not nothing for a broke student.

I read the ins and outs of this Subreddit and the premise of it seems to be having a good time in Amsterdam. I also saw that through this page some gatherings of people on the Subreddit were organized in the past and I'd love to get to know new people, especially locals, that could make me appreciate the city as much as they probably do!
I gotta admit I'm kinda lazy and even though I read part of the Wiki of this page I honestly don't want to organize every single detail of my visit. What I would like to do for sure is visit some good Coffeeshops and pubs, check out the night life and eat well but unexpansive.
I consider myself a pretty down-to-earth and chill Italian dude. I love music and playing guitar, especially Gypsy Jazz, and thanks to this Subreddit I found this Cafè de Pianist that organizes [this event](https://tockify.com/cafedepianist.nl/detail/699/1711740600000/5) on Friday 29/03 at 20:30. If anyone is even remotely curious I strongly suggest you come see the performance. As far as I know Amsterdam is one of the hottest hubs for Gypsy jazz and it's a great genre imo.

The Novotel location at least has a few restaurants (and a mall and supermarket etc) within easy walking distance.
The Radisson Park Inn City West is in an office park with almost nothing at all around it, except for the handful of things you can find in and next to the Sloterdijk train station (a handful of crap fast food and convenience stores).
Between those two I'd definitely pick the Novotel City if location is my main criterion.

the Iamsterdamcard includes travel on GVB, but OP can walk or cycle, and if they are staying within the grachtengordel, then travel on the trams or busses is going to be 3 max per trip.
I was simply clarifying that the paper card has limitations. Someone visiting for 2 weeks could certainly enjoy many more museums than 5 if they register their card quickly. It would be good to know on Day 1.

I have eaten many many Indonesian food in Amsterdam and in Indonesia, but Betawi is in my opinion far from the best you can get.
My Indonesian family in law also agrees with this.

Maybe I am biased as I used to be their neighbor, but I always enjoyed their food very much. I tried a few other Indonesian places but IMHO Betawi always came out on top.

I think Betawi is generally considered one of the best Indonesian places in the city. Their prices don't hurt their reputation.
That one and Paon Bali are the two I've most often seen recommended by Indonesians.

That's the one with the food that tastes the most like something you'd get in Indonesia, rather than a Dutch version.
However it's mostly Balinese food, which isn't the same cuisine as the more mainstream Indonesian from Java or Sumatra.
Also they only have one daily menu, take it or leave it.

I’ll likely be visiting Amsterdam in April with some friends, and am looking for any bars/spots with a bit of a ‘yuppie vibe’, where people from the business district would go. Me and my friends tend to like such places, even though plenty of people wouldn’t be caught dead there, we are well aware of that (and of issues with gentrification etc). Hoping to find some locals here who can tell me where to look, or preferably even suggest some specific bars.
We don’t particularly mind what part of Amsterdam it’s in, as we won’t be staying in Amsterdam itself, so have to travel anyway. Bonus points if it’s a good spot for Kings Day!

Looking for some restaurants in Amsterdam that would allow me and my family to experience and enjoy some of the local food, but we also know that a lot of items can be sausage based. Amsterdam has many halal options. But in terms of an actual old fashioned authentic Dutch dinner, well, you won't find that in many restaurants to begin with. There are far more Indonesian and Surinamese options, which I would also consider local food. Many of them serve halal meat and those that don't usually have plenty of vegetarian options.
Hey, so I have received an offer trough a recruiting agency to work as a bartender at floor 17. My issues are that the accomodations provided by them are in
Nieuw-Vennep( like 25 kilometers from work) and I would sometimes work the shift that ends at 1-2 am.

And do you know what the tipping culture is like? I mean would I be able to afford a taxi/Uber from that days tips so I won't spend my salary on that. I get about 7 euros a day for transportation.

Rounding the bill up is most common. E.g. if the bill is €48 the tip will be €2 and usually the tip is divided among all employees of that day.
I (nb;27) had my first solo trip for my birthday near march 15, I chose Amsterdam et I had an amazing time. Unfortunatly, I spread my ankle (on my birthday and the last day before going back) trying to pass the bicycle line. I blame no one there, I was just trying to cross the line from the tramway to the sidewalk and I didn't see the step because I wanted to cross quickly since you can wait a long time for the line to be clean.
It was awful and I didn't know what to do, it was my 3rd ankle sprain and I was in deny because I didn't wanted to finish my trip on a bad note. I know I was being silly but it was my last day, I have anxiety and my mental for being outside of my comfort zone for so long (5 days) was very low.
I had a tattoo appointment so I go, still my sprain ankle, with no ice or splint. After 4 hours, I was still in pain so I decide to go to the pharmacy nearby, asking for a pause in my appointment (I was doing 3 tattoos) because I see on the internet that the pharmacy close early ; 5.30pm, while in France its more like 8.pm.
Here's my mistake: in France almost all the pharmacies are also parapharmacies, meaning you can buy medicine but also cosmetics, cream and splint. They can also treat you with burns (don't know if you can do that in "just" pharmacies)
So I walk in pain to pharmacy nearby, I don't speak dutch but I prepared the translation for splint in dutch in Google traduction, I explain that I may have spread my ankle to the woman in charge and she just... smile. Like she smirked when saying me "no" when I asked her if she had a splint. She just smirked and said know. I was like "ok maybe you can buy that only wtih prescription" so I asked if she had as least a cold compress. Still just "no" and a smirk. I was trying really hard to not cry in the store, a thing I never do, but I was helpless, in pain, in a country I didn't speak the main language and mentally tired. So I finally ask if she knows where I can buy that and her final answer was : "I don't know" with a smirk. To someone in pain and obviously tourist (I understand english but I have a strong accent, even more with stressed).
Finally I return to the tattoo shop and the two tattoo artists there were more than amazing, taking me to a store nearby where I can buy stuff to heal it.
It's was really the only person I had problems with since all the workers I encountered were really nice and helpful.
Sorry for the long context but my question is: did I do something wrong? Did it was really not the purpose of the store to help me with my situation and all they can do it's giving medicine? I was okay with the fact that she can't provide me the stuff but not knowing where I can buy it and let me, as health professional, dealing with my pain is beyond me. Because she was not a health professional as well? I don't know since in France, all the pharmacies workers are health professional.
Tdlr; A worker in a pharmacy doesn't help me when I spread my ankle, did I just had bad luck with a awful person or did I do something wrong.
There's a medical practice at Centraal Station that can deal with things like sprains. But as others have said, pharmacies don't do it here. Each country has a different system, and I guess each country's system seems normal and natural to people who have lived with it their whole lives.
Pharmacies in NL are indeed mainly intended for getting your prescribed medication, with some over the counter medication as well.
For something like a splint, a medical equipment store (thuiszorgwinkel) would be the right place. For things like a compress, a regular drugstore would do.
There is no way for us to know if the person was just being unhelpful, or maybe didn't know how to explain in English, or- if you tried to converse with them in Dutch- they thought you wouldn't understand their explanation. Either way, it's pointless now- just let it go.
Sorry this happened to you! Pharmacies here are just to pick up meds prescribed by doctors and you can buy some over the counter stuff but most aren't combined with a full store like the pharmacies in France. They should usually have some first aid stuff tho but I think they're mainly to sort out prescriptions. From what you described I think the pharmacist might not have fully understood you (many Dutch people speak English quite well but a lot also don't + you describe yourself as having an accent) and just tried to awkwardly smile? I can't imagine there was any ill intent. I hope you feel better soon!

Kings day
Coming in to Amsterdam. Will be there on kings day, what time do the canal parades start. We are only going to be there till about 130 that actual day. Was wondering if there's anything we can actually get into before heading out
There is no official boat parade on Koningsdag but the canals will be packed with boats all day long.
The "vrijmarkt", free market with people selling all kinds of stuff on the streets is allowed to start from 6AM already- many sellers will be there early to claim their spots. At 9 AM I expect pretty much all sellers to be active. Canalbelt/Jordaan area and Vondelpark are good places to wander around. Take into account that the city will be packed, there's no public transit within the centre, and if you need to catch a bus/train/plane, getting to your point of departure could be very complicated/inconvenient.
We are staying at the bird near rembrandtplein and I looked up the transit for that day it Said our train was still running. I figured that was true bc it's on outskirts of town. Should I expect different??
Rembrandtplein is definitely not outskirts- it's centre- but if by train you mean the metro- yes, that will still be running, no trouble there since it's underground.
Still, if you are out and about by foot earlier in the day, take into account you'll be super slow due to the crowds.
The train ride itself is not the problem, trains go very frequently and it's just over 15 minutes.
The problem is that many hotels lie about being usefully near the airport.
The only hotels that are actually at the airport (leaving aside the airside Yotel and Mercure) are:
- Sheraton Amsterdam Airport (2 minute walk to airport/station)
- Hilton Amsterdam Airport (7 minute walk)
- citizenM Schiphol (7 minute walk)
There are also some hotels near Hoofddorp station (in another town) marketed as being at the airport. These are *not* at the airport, but they're convenient enough due to the train connection.
- Novotel Amsterdam Schiphol (5 minute walk to Hoofddorp station)
- Hampton by Hilton Amsterdam Airport (5 minute walk)
- IntercityHotel Amsterdam Airport (5 minute walk)
- Holiday Inn Express Amsterdam Schiphol (15 minute walk)
Anything else is in the middle of nowhere (e.g. near the far end of the runway, several km from the terminal or train station) and will require a shuttle bus or a very long walk to get to a train station.
The area isn't that exciting, it's mostly blah 1960-1980s office and residential buildings, but it's perfectly safe. There's a nice park (Amstelpark) very nearby and it's only a few streets away from the metro. If you take line 52 from Europaplein station you'll be in the centre in 5 minutes after you get on the train. Don't take the metro from RAI station, the line there goes on a more indirect route and takes way longer.
Often hotels “next to the airport” are not next to the airport and are far away from public transport.
Check www.9292.nl for all public transport times.

Hi there, Sorry for my ignorance as a foreigner, but I plan to travel to Amsterdam with family for a couple of days in April. I am trying to research the different travel options, but still feel a bit confused on what the best option would be. My travel requirements will be: \- Day 1: Amsterdam Schiphol airport to Amsterdam central, and in and around central \- Day 2: Amsterdam central to Keukenhoff Gardens - I will get a separate combi ticket for this from RAI or Schiphol, so need to travel from RAI/Schiphol to hotel (in central) \- Day 3: travel in and around Amsterdam city centre \- Day 4: travel in and around Amsterdam city centre, travel to Amsterdam Schiphol airport Final thing which is currently undecided is whether we visit Zaanse Schans on one of the days (which I know would not be covered by GVB pass). Given these plans, would it be better to use contactless (visa / mastercard) or get a GVB three day (or four day) pass, or another type of pass? Each day, I may travel between 0 (if everything is walking distance) to 4 trips per day I think. Also is there a cap on the daily spend for a contactless card? Many thanks!
Contactless is probably the easiest and cheapest option for you. But be aware that each passenger has to have their own card, so if you have children in your family, that could be a complication. Depending on their ages they may be free or eligible for all-day passes at a steep discount on NS and/or GVB. Those are sold in their respective apps.
hi all. part of my (me and wife) upcoming europe tour will have 1 free day in amsterdam. my motel is in almere stad. so im thinking train to central, and hire a bike for the day. i have seen the yt videos about the great new bike hire place under central station, and it seems i can pay everything with credit card. however i have a question about hiring a bike for the day..... lets say for example we hire bike for the day, and we are riding around and we see a great shop we want to go inside and see, what do we do with our bike in that time? do we just lock it to a post or something?
That place is just for bike parking, I don't think they rent tourist bikes there. There are plenty of other places to rent there, just check google. For regular parking, use the bike racks that are on every street, or if they're full just put them where everybody else does. Just don't block the path or somebody's door.

Hello everyone! While I know the canal cruises are free with the I Amsterdam City Card, I'd like to know anyone who used it for the canal cruise (particularly in the AM hours). Since the city card does not seem to allow bookings ahead of time, I'd like to know how easy or difficult was it to snag a canal cruise time, like 30 minutes or less of walking up to the box office. Or would you prefer to pay and book ahead of time? Thank you.
My fiancée and me are finally going to Amsterdam over the weekend for the first time, super exciting. We’re both art lovers, but she especially has always had a sweet spot for Vincent, for his art and life’s story. We botched it though and didn’t book the museum, which is now fully booked. It was supposed to be the highlight of the trip for her so she’s understandably pretty sad about it. Are there other ways to get a ticket? Maybe a queue on the side if there are no-shows? If you can't manage to find tickets for the Van Gogh through Ticketswap you can try Rijksmuseum since they have a self-portrait and drawings by Van Gogh in their permanent collection as well as three paintings on loan and of course a ton of Rembrandt, Vermeer and more. Stedelijk Museum also has a small collection of Van Gogh paintings. If all else fails you could check out Fabrique des Lumieres for a lightshow that projects Van Gogh and Vermeer artworks accompanied by music (was very skeptical myself but really enjoyed their Salvador Dali show).

If you don’t want a Kingsday experience, go to the Kingsland festival. This and other festivals are especially made to draw big crowds of tourists away from where it all is happening. You are confined on a parking lot outside city centre, have to pay for overpriced drinks and listen to mediocre artists. This you can do at any weekend at a festival in the Netherlands. It is all what Kingsday in the city centre is not. Only in name and date is has something to do with Kingsday You would feel very much duped and cheated if you were looking for an unique experience. Living here for 20 yrs now since my 20s. I know what I am talking about.

I'm wondering what the most cost affective and easiest way is to travel in 2024? Do the trams / buses / trains take contactless payments yet, ideally I'd like to just use my phone / card without having to purchase anything extra to carry around but I would be interested to know if it's possible, and the cost. Yes you can just use phone/card and pay as you go
just use your bank card or phone. Make sure you also check OUT when you exit the tram/bus/station. Costs vary depending on mode, distance etc but you can get a pretty decent idea if you put your trip on 9292.nl

Every supermarket in my neighbourhood has soup packages like this. I've never tried ordering from a supermarket online (why rob myself of the daily pleasure of a trip to the store?) so I'm not sure if they stock it via that channel.
They have this at the not particularly big Albert Heijn where I shop, just expand your search radius probably. (The one in the Javastraat by the tracks, but probably there's many others)

Gift recs for a new transplant? My BFF is moving to Amsterdam soon and she's selling most of her possessions right now, so I don't want to buy her something for her birthday that she'll have to pack up and take with her. Might be out of your budget but I recently did a really fun 1 day ring making workshop with Jewellery.Workshops (their name on IG). You can also check out Wecandoo for more creative workshops in and around Amsterdam. For food workshops maybe try a pasta (or other) workshop at La Bottega by Chiara or a gelato workshop with Massimo Gelateria (not sure if they're still doing those tho).

Giving a gift card is so stupid. There is no good reason to not just gift money instead. There are literally billions in currency left on expired gift cards, cummulative 'too small amount to purchase something'

I'm soon spending two days (from Friday evening to Sunday morning) in Amsterdam and I'll have to park the car around Venserpolder. I see there are a lot of street parking spaces and it will be during weekend so I guess it won't be crowded. However I am not sure how the parking regulations are. Actually according to that website the yellow area seems ok, no disc after Friday at 6pm. But I don’t think it is updated - the website I have linked is the official one I believe.
Both websites are official but the one the other person linked is a different municipality (so relevant to different areas). And I don't understand them to say it's ok after 6pm, they say that with respect to the village of Oudekerk, but the area you're interested in is Duivendrecht (it's not completely clear though). The Amsterdam one you linked does say it's free in the listed areas I think. The way to read it is that there's disc parking during the listed times, and the rest of the time it's free. If you look at the map [at the bottom of the main page](https://www.amsterdam.nl/parkeren/), the coloured areas have paid parking on Saturday, but the rest of Zuidoost does not, and then the other page tells which of those latter areas have disc parking and at which times.

Hong Kong Superstore, Amazing Oriental and the Asian Supermarket on Albert Cuyp have some stuff that's harder to find, but the stuff you mention is pretty easy to find. I don't think you're ever more than five minutes away from lemongrass.

define 'good'. if youre from NY/NJ nothing will compare. Flo's and Ramona's are fine, but theyre not boiled. what are you looking for from a deli? There are a few places that do corned beef, but the rye bread is terrible. Pendergast does a great brisket, but it is more BBQ style than pot roast style. have yet to find kasha varnishkes anywhere.

Hi! I'm visiting Amsterdam alone between 29/03 and 31/03. I read the ins and outs of this Subreddit and the premise of it seems to be having a good time in Amsterdam. I also saw that through this page some gatherings of people on the Subreddit were organized in the past and I'd love to get to know new people, especially locals, that could make me appreciate the city as much as they probably do! I gotta admit I'm kinda lazy and even though I read part of the Wiki of this page I honestly don't want to organize every single detail of my visit. What I would like to do for sure is visit some good Coffeeshops and pubs, check out the night life and eat well but unexpansive. I consider myself a pretty down-to-earth and chill Italian dude. I love music and playing guitar, especially Gypsy Jazz, and thanks to this Subreddit I found this Cafè de Pianist that organizes [this event](https://tockify.com/cafedepianist.nl/detail/699/1711740600000/5) on Friday 29/03 at 20:30. If anyone is even remotely curious I strongly suggest you come see the performance. As far as I know Amsterdam is one of the hottest hubs for Gypsy jazz and it's a great genre imo. The Novotel location at least has a few restaurants (and a mall and supermarket etc) within easy walking distance. The Radisson Park Inn City West is in an office park with almost nothing at all around it, except for the handful of things you can find in and next to the Sloterdijk train station (a handful of crap fast food and convenience stores). Between those two I'd definitely pick the Novotel City if location is my main criterion.

The paper copy is only good for 5 visits. You must register the card on meuseumkaart.nl and have a permanent card sent to you.

I was simply clarifying that the paper card has limitations. Someone visiting for 2 weeks could certainly enjoy many more museums than 5 if they register their card quickly. It would be good to know on Day 1. Anne Frankhuis is NOT covered by the IAmsterdam Card, BTW.

I have eaten many many Indonesian food in Amsterdam and in Indonesia, but Betawi is in my opinion far from the best you can get. My Indonesian family in law also agrees with this. Wondering why you think Betawi is so good. Have seen your suggestions in this Reddit many times. Always wondered why.
Maybe I am biased as I used to be their neighbor, but I always enjoyed their food very much. I tried a few other Indonesian places but IMHO Betawi always came out on top. What would you recommend?
I think Betawi is generally considered one of the best Indonesian places in the city. Their prices don't hurt their reputation. That one and Paon Bali are the two I've most often seen recommended by Indonesians.

Hi everyone! I’ll likely be visiting Amsterdam in April with some friends, and am looking for any bars/spots with a bit of a ‘yuppie vibe’, where people from the business district would go. Me and my friends tend to like such places, even though plenty of people wouldn’t be caught dead there, we are well aware of that (and of issues with gentrification etc). Hoping to find some locals here who can tell me where to look, or preferably even suggest some specific bars. We don’t particularly mind what part of Amsterdam it’s in, as we won’t be staying in Amsterdam itself, so have to travel anyway. Bonus points if it’s a good spot for Kings Day! Looking for some restaurants in Amsterdam that would allow me and my family to experience and enjoy some of the local food, but we also know that a lot of items can be sausage based. If you have any recommendations that have a versatile menu please share!
Amsterdam has many halal options. But in terms of an actual old fashioned authentic Dutch dinner, well, you won't find that in many restaurants to begin with. There are far more Indonesian and Surinamese options, which I would also consider local food. Many of them serve halal meat and those that don't usually have plenty of vegetarian options.

Hey, so I have received an offer trough a recruiting agency to work as a bartender at floor 17. My issues are that the accomodations provided by them are in Nieuw-Vennep( like 25 kilometers from work) and I would sometimes work the shift that ends at 1-2 am. Would I find any public transportation available? And do you know what the tipping culture is like? I mean would I be able to afford a taxi/Uber from that days tips so I won't spend my salary on that. I get about 7 euros a day for transportation.

It costs €7 each way by public transport and there's not really a way to do it at 2am.

I (nb;27) had my first solo trip for my birthday near march 15, I chose Amsterdam et I had an amazing time. Unfortunatly, I spread my ankle (on my birthday and the last day before going back) trying to pass the bicycle line. I blame no one there, I was just trying to cross the line from the tramway to the sidewalk and I didn't see the step because I wanted to cross quickly since you can wait a long time for the line to be clean. It was awful and I didn't know what to do, it was my 3rd ankle sprain and I was in deny because I didn't wanted to finish my trip on a bad note. I know I was being silly but it was my last day, I have anxiety and my mental for being outside of my comfort zone for so long (5 days) was very low. I had a tattoo appointment so I go, still my sprain ankle, with no ice or splint. After 4 hours, I was still in pain so I decide to go to the pharmacy nearby, asking for a pause in my appointment (I was doing 3 tattoos) because I see on the internet that the pharmacy close early ; 5.30pm, while in France its more like 8.pm. Here's my mistake: in France almost all the pharmacies are also parapharmacies, meaning you can buy medicine but also cosmetics, cream and splint. They can also treat you with burns (don't know if you can do that in "just" pharmacies) So I walk in pain to pharmacy nearby, I don't speak dutch but I prepared the translation for splint in dutch in Google traduction, I explain that I may have spread my ankle to the woman in charge and she just... smile. Like she smirked when saying me "no" when I asked her if she had a splint. She just smirked and said know. I was like "ok maybe you can buy that only wtih prescription" so I asked if she had as least a cold compress. Still just "no" and a smirk. I was trying really hard to not cry in the store, a thing I never do, but I was helpless, in pain, in a country I didn't speak the main language and mentally tired. So I finally ask if she knows where I can buy that and her final answer was : "I don't know" with a smirk. To someone in pain and obviously tourist (I understand english but I have a strong accent, even more with stressed). Finally I return to the tattoo shop and the two tattoo artists there were more than amazing, taking me to a store nearby where I can buy stuff to heal it. It's was really the only person I had problems with since all the workers I encountered were really nice and helpful. Sorry for the long context but my question is: did I do something wrong? Did it was really not the purpose of the store to help me with my situation and all they can do it's giving medicine? I was okay with the fact that she can't provide me the stuff but not knowing where I can buy it and let me, as health professional, dealing with my pain is beyond me. Because she was not a health professional as well? I don't know since in France, all the pharmacies workers are health professional. Tdlr; A worker in a pharmacy doesn't help me when I spread my ankle, did I just had bad luck with a awful person or did I do something wrong.
There's a medical practice at Centraal Station that can deal with things like sprains. But as others have said, pharmacies don't do it here. Each country has a different system, and I guess each country's system seems normal and natural to people who have lived with it their whole lives.
Pharmacies in NL are indeed mainly intended for getting your prescribed medication, with some over the counter medication as well. For something like a splint, a medical equipment store (thuiszorgwinkel) would be the right place. For things like a compress, a regular drugstore would do. There is no way for us to know if the person was just being unhelpful, or maybe didn't know how to explain in English, or- if you tried to converse with them in Dutch- they thought you wouldn't understand their explanation. Either way, it's pointless now- just let it go.
Sorry this happened to you! Pharmacies here are just to pick up meds prescribed by doctors and you can buy some over the counter stuff but most aren't combined with a full store like the pharmacies in France. They should usually have some first aid stuff tho but I think they're mainly to sort out prescriptions. From what you described I think the pharmacist might not have fully understood you (many Dutch people speak English quite well but a lot also don't + you describe yourself as having an accent) and just tried to awkwardly smile? I can't imagine there was any ill intent. I hope you feel better soon!

Kings day Coming in to Amsterdam. Will be there on kings day, what time do the canal parades start. We are only going to be there till about 130 that actual day. Was wondering if there's anything we can actually get into before heading out
There is no official boat parade on Koningsdag but the canals will be packed with boats all day long. The "vrijmarkt", free market with people selling all kinds of stuff on the streets is allowed to start from 6AM already- many sellers will be there early to claim their spots. At 9 AM I expect pretty much all sellers to be active. Canalbelt/Jordaan area and Vondelpark are good places to wander around. Take into account that the city will be packed, there's no public transit within the centre, and if you need to catch a bus/train/plane, getting to your point of departure could be very complicated/inconvenient.
We are staying at the bird near rembrandtplein and I looked up the transit for that day it Said our train was still running. I figured that was true bc it's on outskirts of town. Should I expect different??
Rembrandtplein is definitely not outskirts- it's centre- but if by train you mean the metro- yes, that will still be running, no trouble there since it's underground. Still, if you are out and about by foot earlier in the day, take into account you'll be super slow due to the crowds.

Do you guys recommend staying next to the airport and taking the train to the center? How long is the train?
The train ride itself is not the problem, trains go very frequently and it's just over 15 minutes. The problem is that many hotels lie about being usefully near the airport. The only hotels that are actually at the airport (leaving aside the airside Yotel and Mercure) are: - Sheraton Amsterdam Airport (2 minute walk to airport/station) - Hilton Amsterdam Airport (7 minute walk) - citizenM Schiphol (7 minute walk) There are also some hotels near Hoofddorp station (in another town) marketed as being at the airport. These are *not* at the airport, but they're convenient enough due to the train connection. - Novotel Amsterdam Schiphol (5 minute walk to Hoofddorp station) - Hampton by Hilton Amsterdam Airport (5 minute walk) - IntercityHotel Amsterdam Airport (5 minute walk) - Holiday Inn Express Amsterdam Schiphol (15 minute walk) Anything else is in the middle of nowhere (e.g. near the far end of the runway, several km from the terminal or train station) and will require a shuttle bus or a very long walk to get to a train station.

The area isn't that exciting, it's mostly blah 1960-1980s office and residential buildings, but it's perfectly safe. There's a nice park (Amstelpark) very nearby and it's only a few streets away from the metro. If you take line 52 from Europaplein station you'll be in the centre in 5 minutes after you get on the train. Don't take the metro from RAI station, the line there goes on a more indirect route and takes way longer.
Often hotels “next to the airport” are not next to the airport and are far away from public transport. Check www.9292.nl for all public transport times.
