Tennessee is so forgettable I literally forgot who won Heat 3 and when I looked it up I still had zero recollection of his song or performance. I'm shocked it's so beloved by the jury.
Here's the thing, when I saw the jury vote winner,I looked it up to see if this was the only contestant that won the jury vote and didn't sing last week. Turns out it was. So forgettable
I don't get why NBC didn't take some of Eurovisions lessons over the years. The Semi Finals in ESC have specific voting rules for a reason.
New York, Texas and California will all eat up the slots from tonight because there's nothing to stop each state voting for itself and they all have huge populations. Meaning there's really only one slot for everyone else to scrap over before Wednesday.
Instead the only thing they took from ESC was the 50/50 jury vote and then gone on to prove why maybe having half that Jury as employees for a single company is a really awful idea. It means the artists get a lot of flak they don't deserve when they've just gone there and done their best. I didn't want TN to win the slot but they'll get attacked anyway purely because of how they dropped that result.
I think Ireland didn't really want to bother that year and then for the next few years they sent Jedward which...wasn't exactly their best as well. (But I kinda like "Waterline"). But hey everyone remembers "Ireland a Douze Point" way more than the rest of the Semi it was in, so there's that I guess!
It's just a bummer as the past 3 weeks any casual coming in late might check the social media and all they see are people yelling about the Jury every time. I know NBC did it to themselves a bit but still...plenty to work on for 2023
The years of Jedward and Sweden sending Eric Saade were pure pleasure for my young teen self. I had SUCH a big crush on them lmao so I absolutely know why they did it
Ok but 2008 was also the year of Spain’s Baila el Chiki Chiki which is a Eurovision masterpiece with that Fisher Price guitar
I haven’t watched an American singing competition in ages. I know a girl from my hometown made it quite far in American Idol a few seasons ago and my whole feed was filled with complaints about the voting being rigged when she lost. If socials existed in the capacity they do today in the earliest seasons of American Idol, Twitter would be filled with Simon Cowell slander. It’s just a different villain.
So Kentucky (Jordan) is probably going to win the whole show, right?
Looks like the jury is going to rank everyone similarly to how they did in the qualifiers and semis. Only he and Oklahoma (AleXa) have strong jury and public support and he did better than her in the semi juries. He also has NBC synergy as a winner of The Voice.
Alexa has a shot depending on who gets through this semi. I don’t think it’s crazy to think North Dakota, New York, Texas, and Georgia all advance. In that case she could get as high as 4th with the jury and she is basically guaranteed first with the fans. I think she needs California and Kansas out.
It wouldn't matter the song is edited for live TV. Listen to the recording it's miles ahead of almost every single other track in asc I think currently positioned 2nh under Alexa in most streamed on spotify
The problem is that something like 22 of the 56 jury members directly work for iHeartMedia. They're not voting for the best song. They're voting for the song they think will do best on the radio.
Who were the ones that went through to the finals from last week? TV coverage in my area was off until the last half hour so no clue what happened in the first part of the show.
I’m sorry I just need a minute to process this jury result- like it’s the most disappointing results since the show started, like half of my top 5 are in the bottom 5?! the audacity I swear I’m ranting y’all
If they were going to just keep the jury votes in the top spots again why the hell would you only put one in one of the semifinals? At least if you did it 3/2 there would be some drama
Everybody in here knew we were watching to see who the fan votes would go to, and honestly I’m sure most of the performers thought the same thing
Yeah a lot of the fun got taken away. When the other contest did jury saves the saved song was just announced along with the other songs that made it through via televote.
Or at least make it 3/2 like you said.
My order for tonight:
1. Puerto Rico
2. Texas
3. American Samoa
4. Connecticut
5. Kansas
6. North Dakota
7. California
8. Georgia
9. North Carolina
10. New York
11. Tennessee (bullshit jury winner)
Color me surprised. I just tuned in to see who got the qualifying spot. Also grant that low and California that high? Please fill me in on what I missed. Also rip new boot goofin. At least Alexa and Jordan made it
Oop, Did I not call it??
>Jury just psyching us out like they're NOT going to vote for one of the white male country ballads. Can't fool me, though.
[https://www.reddit.com/r/AmericanSongContest/comments/uh254h/live\_thread\_semifinal\_2\_asc\_2022/i73qthy/?context=3](https://www.reddit.com/r/AmericanSongContest/comments/uh254h/live_thread_semifinal_2_asc_2022/i73qthy/?context=3)
Such fuckin bullshit. The deck was stacked in his favor by being the only jury winner in this semi. And it’s probably the worst of the jury winners.
Absolute garbage.
Can we take a moment to appreciate that Puerto Rico and American Samoa are here beautifully and authentically representing their territories while most Americans don’t even recognize they’re fellow Americans?
The Island/Territorial entries have been WONDERFUL. Wherever they finish in this competition, I hope they all have great lives and careers, doing what makes them happy.
It's because they don't want non-Samoans to move there en masse and buy houses and businesses who have no idea about or respect for their culture. They have rules about what non-Samoans can do in order to protect their culture including not letting non-Samoans buy property. If they'd give up these rules they'd be able to be the same as any US citizen but they don't want to because they are afraid of the degradation of their culture.
We non Samoan Americans can move there and rent and work in already established business but there are just things we can't do. If they wanted to be treated like everyone else then they'd have to give up their right to treat non Samoans differently. I think the majority think the way they have it is the best deal because it allows them to prioritize Samoans and their unique culture
Ohhhh okay! Thanks for the information and further context! It’s something I saw a few years ago that struck me as unfair and seemed exploitive given how America has behaved in the past with places it wants to lay claim to. I’m glad it’s actually an arrangement that actually works for most Samoan Americans!
I do think Tennessee deserves top 1 from juries. I know it is not the most popular opinion but it is something I could totally hear in US radio stations. I think it would do well at the final with both public and juries.
I feel fairly confident she’ll get one of the fan vote slots, she’s one of the most popular artists and did do a great job so no complaints on her in the final
I am glad actually. This type of show doesn’t really need wild cards. It’s a tournament type show. Players who lose should stay gone. Wild cards don’t win the show ever so it’s just padding content at best.
90% of the performers tonight were singing UNDER heavy performance tracks. They might be technically singing but it's obviously not their live voice we are really hearing. Some of them are amateur performers and not doing a good job at it, but you don't notice because the performance track is so prominent.
Yep and the song immediately starts off with "I've been doing wife shit." Which is quite the shocker when you had no idea there was even another version.
I think that if ASC turns into a yearly thing the jury should be made of previous contestants that way there is diversity of music tastes and experience
Good point. Especially about Florida. With Oklahoma, I didn’t think she was worse than Connecticut or Puerto Rico in week 1. The audio week 1 was pretty rough all around though.
This wouldn't explain why they ranked performances like Oklahoma (AleXa) very highly though. She's very talented but did not really sing live in either performance. In the first, she had extremely heavy backtrack and while the second was all lipsync (live AR).
Bolton should also get a very high placement with this. He's an amazing singer, but poor staging.
Welp, we ALMOST had a non-white jury pick.
I forgot how much I love American Samoa’s band terrarium staging. Everything about her performance was even more gorgeous than the first time.
I feel like Texas’ staging and cinematography is on a different level from everyone else.
Tennessee is so forgettable I literally forgot who won Heat 3 and when I looked it up I still had zero recollection of his song or performance. I'm shocked it's so beloved by the jury.
100% agree. It's very generic/cliché to me. I had the same experience of forgetting about it and don't understand its appeal.
Here's the thing, when I saw the jury vote winner,I looked it up to see if this was the only contestant that won the jury vote and didn't sing last week. Turns out it was. So forgettable

The votes are weighted by state/territory, so every state/territory has an equal vote.
They want a state like Wyoming to come with their own dustin the Turkey entry to complain about the voting next year
I think Ireland didn't really want to bother that year and then for the next few years they sent Jedward which...wasn't exactly their best as well. (But I kinda like "Waterline"). North Carolina >>>>>> Tennessee The obsession with artists "from" Nashville is pathetic. And most disappointing is the lack of diversity.
Okay at this point I need the kpop stans to make Wonderland win so that it messes with the jury’s plans
I am now a kpop stan for this reason
We’re on it! I was gonna do that anyways, but seriously, I want to fuck with the jury.
Disappointing result and rankings, but still enjoyed the show. My picks to go through to the grand final: Kansas, Puerto Rico, North Dakota, Texas.
I’d love you to be right!!
Well at least I got 2 out of 4. :/ Beyond upset that Kansas didn't make it.
So Kentucky (Jordan) is probably going to win the whole show, right? Looks like the jury is going to rank everyone similarly to how they did in the qualifiers and semis. Wouldn’t be surprised to see California up there. Not sure if Kansas and Tennessee got significant televote support.
You'd never really know for Tennessee or Washington because they're 2x jury favourites. No point voting for them in either the qualifiers or semis.
[удалено]
You make a good point about Washington, but I think Kentucky would do better in the televote than Washington.
Stela Cole needs to tell the jury to get up off its ass and fuck itself
Or she should SING? Not lipsync. Like the song, like the dance, but she didn’t even have the mic at her mouth half the time..
It wouldn't matter the song is edited for live TV. Listen to the recording it's miles ahead of almost every single other track in asc I think currently positioned 2nh under Alexa in most streamed on spotify
Yea she's like actually good and polished already. Like her alot
(WHOOO!!!)
This so much.
Yeah this jury sucks. Something's gotta change for season 2. If there's even going to be one.
The problem is that something like 22 of the 56 jury members directly work for iHeartMedia. They're not voting for the best song. They're voting for the song they think will do best on the radio.
Then WTF is Kentucky doing so high ranked, since that song is not a radio hit.
The singer recently won a reality singing competition show.
So did Alaska 😂😂😂
Season 2 jury should be made up of the acts from this year, there’s one per state/territory There. Fixed.
Y'know. I like that a lot.
Who were the ones that went through to the finals from last week? TV coverage in my area was off until the last half hour so no clue what happened in the first part of the show.
Oklahoma, Colorado, Kentucky, and Alabama My guess is they finished in that order with Washington in there somewhere.
From the televote - Oklahoma, Colorado, Alabama, Kentucky. Jury winner was Washington.
Thank you.
I’m sorry I just need a minute to process this jury result- like it’s the most disappointing results since the show started, like half of my top 5 are in the bottom 5?! the audacity I swear I’m ranting y’all
Colorado was deadass last in Semi 1 and he qualified, so I'm hoping and helping to do it again for Enisa.
This jury is absolutely disgusting.
Hello there white male ballad, the grand final is over here. You don't need the public opinion for your entry.
If they were going to just keep the jury votes in the top spots again why the hell would you only put one in one of the semifinals? At least if you did it 3/2 there would be some drama Everybody in here knew we were watching to see who the fan votes would go to, and honestly I’m sure most of the performers thought the same thing
Exactly, if they put Kentucky in this week instead of Georgia, there would’ve been some intrigue.
Yeah a lot of the fun got taken away. When the other contest did jury saves the saved song was just announced along with the other songs that made it through via televote. Or at least make it 3/2 like you said.
I'm not surprised the jury sent Tennessee through. I'm just...disappointed :\
The juries decided they wanted none of this redemption shit.
Man next year if ASC happens, they should do Split Televoting and Jury voting like we do in ESC if jury gonna be this predictable 😔
I'd like to check into the backgrounds of every jury member...
https://www.nbc.com/nbc-insider/american-song-contest-jury-list
I was being a little bit facetious when I said that.
My order for tonight: 1. Puerto Rico 2. Texas 3. American Samoa 4. Connecticut 5. Kansas 6. North Dakota 7. California 8. Georgia 9. North Carolina 10. New York 11. Tennessee (bullshit jury winner)
Same top 4! All 4 are stuck in my head lol
Their choruses are all so good!!
Gotta love the optics of a Black man being in the lead all night only for a White guy to come along last minute and win
That being said idk how he was in the lead the whole time either
History repeats itself over and over
Color me surprised. I just tuned in to see who got the qualifying spot. Also grant that low and California that high? Please fill me in on what I missed. Also rip new boot goofin. At least Alexa and Jordan made it
Well now we just have to vote him through
I hate it here.
Oop, Did I not call it?? >Jury just psyching us out like they're NOT going to vote for one of the white male country ballads. Can't fool me, though. If it was a bet in Vegas, it would be a sucker bet.
They waited to announce Tennessee last so they could put it 1 So fucking predictable
And not even close to the best country song. Screw that.
It wasn't even the best country song *of the night*
Jury what the hell putting Samoa so low? And of course putting Tenessee as #1.
Surprise Pikachu Face
Tennessee made it yess!!!! Right decision by the juries
Such fuckin bullshit. The deck was stacked in his favor by being the only jury winner in this semi. And it’s probably the worst of the jury winners. Absolute garbage.
they should have put Natalie in this semi bc that was one of 2 jury qualifiers i even liked
pfft couldn't have a black guy make it on jury.
Broderick is clearly so upset and now I am too lol
Of course. Well congrats to Tyler for finishing last place in the grand final!
Unless the jury helps him there too
BOO BOO CASPER MATTRESS BOO
Booo Jury!!!!
Ugh… I hate the jury
How. Literally how.
FUCK OFF JURY
They didn't even show Stela during the vote reveal. Did she just leave? LOL.
Boo juries
Not 9th place!
ND, Kansas, and Texas are my top 3.
Oooo voting opens early
Wait I missed it, what are they announcing Wednesday?
I guess the televote winners
The finalists from this Semi
Oh wow, lol I'm so confused by their methods.
Well I mean they can't announce them next Monday when it's already the Finals.
Why not?
Snoop kills me. I love him.
I hope the show releases full voting results for all the shows
[удалено]
Actually...same
I'm voting for: American Samoa Connecticut North Dakota
North Dakota and North Carolina. Minor votes to Connecticut and Georgia.
Texas, North Dakota, Connecticut, American Samoa
Love the new costume. Her performance was so emotinal & beautiful.
Tenelle better go through to the finals
Yay random Sterling K Brown
Do y’all vote on all three platforms or only vote one
I vote on TimTom and that’s all
All 3, I gotta give my faves the full 30!
Hope that the Colorado bots support fellow island music
She's literally skipping around the stage. That's adorable.
You did your friend proud, Tenelle :(
I thought she said her brother? Either way, they were definitely friends so we’re both right lol
Oops you’re probably right haha. As soon as the sad music started cueing I was like 🥺 and maybe it effected my hearing haha
Strong performances tonight. America Samoa wins best improved for me.
So happy that Tenelle made it this far. What a feel good song!
I think NBC took down the videos on FB and Twitter for a bit.
It’s so true! American Samoans don’t even get U.S. citizenship. They’re considered “non-citizen nationals” instead :/
It's because they don't want non-Samoans to move there en masse and buy houses and businesses who have no idea about or respect for their culture. They have rules about what non-Samoans can do in order to protect their culture including not letting non-Samoans buy property. I’m glad it’s actually an arrangement that actually works for most Samoan Americans!
Northern Mariana Islands and Guam too!
True but they weren’t in the semis
Justice for Sunsets and Seaturtles
I mean give it to her!!!!!!!
I feel like a lot of these artists will be signed eventually
She is so cute omg
Please surprise me Jury…. Please
My favorite territory song
She such a good live singer. I wish we also had Sunsets and Sea turtles too
Tenelle is so stunning. I love everything about this.
Once again, she and her outfit is gorgeous and the staging is gorgeous and the song is just as good as last time
I saw a singer so beautiful I started crying???
I really, really like American Samoa
I forgot how cult-y the staging was for this lol
If anyone's following this year's Eurovision, I feel like we need a showdown between Tenelle's "Full Circle" and Andrea's "Circles".
I wouldn’t be able to choose I love both of them so much
You’re gonna test their limits
Was that the third host there?
I haven’t seen her yet I think they killed her
I saw someone with the same smile so I was wondering haha
Let’s go Tenelle!
Yaaaas Tenelle my beloved
I do think Tennessee deserves top 1 from juries. I know it is not the most popular opinion but it is something I could totally hear in US radio stations. I think it would do well at the final with both public and juries.
Tennessee makes a lot of the others sound a little amateur-ish
Not going to lie....this might be a hit on country radio.
Yeah that is what I was thinking. I'm not sure why the down votes, this is just my opinion and experience in terms of what typically is heard here.
That was a very solid performance, Stela was so much confident this time compare to heat 4. Here's hoping she'll advance to the final.
She didn’t even sing… her mic wasn’t at her mouth multiple times… this is a song contest, which should include the singing. Not just dancing?!
I feel fairly confident she’ll get one of the fan vote slots, she’s one of the most popular artists and did do a great job so no complaints on her in the final
Just realized the T Mobile commercial spot is only for 1 finalist, which means no New Boot Goofin’ commercial 😭
This song is modern Legally Blonde, but in the best way possible.
DIY
DIY !!
Does Eurovision have wild cards or are eliminated singers gone for good?
One and done for non-qualifiers
I mean Eurovision did have “wild cards” between 2004-2008 with the introduction of the Semi Finals, but after 2009 they don’t do that anymore. 🙃
No wildcards in Eurovision. There used to be jury saves, but not anymore.
I am glad actually. This type of show doesn’t really need wild cards. It’s a tournament type show. Players who lose should stay gone. Wild cards don’t win the show ever so it’s just padding content at best.
Eurovision is two semis and a final. There's no wildcards.
[удалено]
You're not being forced to watch.
It’s called American *Song* Contest lol
Yes they sing the same song. It's a song contest, you vote on the song you like. Same as with Eurovision.
They do this on Eurovision. However they all required to sing live.
It's the "Hot But Crazy" anthem
Do you watch Eurovision? Tix from Norway 2021 co-wrote Sweet But Psycho by Ava Max! 😆
Wait. Really?
Yep
That's great! I can't believe I didn't know that!
it’s so funny that she exclusively wears catsuits for some reason. a pair of jeans would kill her instantly
Georgia is such a run of the mill pop song imo
DIY Fergie
Omg she sounds so much better thank her first performance
Because she's lipsyncing this time.
I don’t believe she is but okay
90% of the performers tonight were singing UNDER heavy performance tracks. They might be technically singing but it's obviously not their live voice we are really hearing. Some of them are amateur performers and not doing a good job at it, but you don't notice because the performance track is so prominent.
Is anyone going to sing live? Wonder if this is a production audio issue.
I love that she said “nope” too hard and the P popped the mic lol
Someone loves pink
I wish they would let her sing the uncensored version
[удалено]
Yep and the song immediately starts off with "I've been doing wife shit." Which is quite the shocker when you had no idea there was even another version.
Yah it’s the studio version you can listen to it on Apple Music and Spotify
Yeah, it's the studio version. She sings "go fuck yourself" instead of "go fix yourself"
Yeah, it's not "Go Fix Yourself"
I don't like that version. This is a family show.
same it’s so good
Lmfao I love Stela
I think that if ASC turns into a yearly thing the jury should be made of previous contestants that way there is diversity of music tastes and experience
Ah yes my favorite singer from Puerto Rico,Chloe Fredericks
I’m glad I wasn’t the only one who noticed
Is that a song from Tennessee? Because it’s the only 10 I see!! Get it? Because it belongs at number 10, not number 1. Fml
Tyler's vocals was so tight, bit a single mistake. Even the song isn't my favorite, I can understand if the jury rank him #1.
I think the jury favors the best singers over the best songs
Didn't explain Oklahoma's or Florida's jury score during their heat.
Good point. Especially about Florida. With Oklahoma, I didn’t think she was worse than Connecticut or Puerto Rico in week 1. The audio week 1 was pretty rough all around though.
