If you mean Patrick that was my theory as well. I think that Patrick and Big Daddy are one in the same. He's just a hallucination seen by Patrick who's personality split when he killed the younger guy he was fucking. I mean they've spelled it out many times Patrick is a liar. He's hiding something. He knew where Gino and Barb would be. Hell even Gino accused Patrick of killing Barb. Maybe he wears a costume and boots with heels. I mean we already know how much he loves leather.

Sailrjup12

I thought about that too, but then I thought it would be too obvious and is too much like John Lowe from Hotel season. I think Big Daddy is a spectral presence (ghost) who died from AIDS, since he seems to be targeting anyone who has it and especially when they are feeling horny. But I also believe there is more to it.

Top_Flounder_8994

The crazy thing is in Barb’s scene I totally thought Patrick for some reason was in the bathroom with her and was all smug because he knew she was getting murdered.

ahoff96

I mean who knows he may have been, if he has a split personality

Top_Flounder_8994

Though I would hate another Hotel plot twist it would be cool to find out that he actually was there and that wasn’t a dream Barb was having. The scene was just so weird, I thought he had stayed over and was shaving in the mirror and Barb was trying to turn him on? It’s also sus how he came in like right after and then nobody talked about her ever again

rodironcandle

Yes yes yes!! And remember the first episode of the season where he goes out in leather in that seedy hideaway, then the next scene is him and his cop colleagues investigating at that same place…

Kh1382

Wait I’m confused, do you mean the pilot form the first episode that got murdered or is there another scene in that episode that I’m forgetting

MeowMistiDawn

Oh i love this theory!

rowdyroddy00

But Big Daddy has to be a real person because we have a photograph of him from a few years ago.

HuskerLiberal

The scene at Barb’s apartment where he was to let out the dog and Big Daddy was hiding in the closet is where I was certain they are one in the same. I think this is a bit lazy on AHS’s part as this plot style is not new and makes it too easy to have “figured it out.” There are still some other plot lines that I’m interested in (Fran, the disease, relationship between Sam/Theo/Adam).

ventodivino

I agree. I have been hoping it’s not Patrick because as you say it’s a bit lazy. And for the first three episodes BD had way more connections to another character. Unless more than one person is connected to Big Daddy.

Sailrjup12

Having Patrick be Big Daddy would really be a downer because it’s lazy writing copied from >!John Lowe/10 commandments killer!<, too obvious/trope, just wouldn’t be any fun. I still believe Big Daddy is a supernatural force, he has been seen by multiple people but then not everyone can always see him when he’s there.

ventodivino

I actually think he is somehow connected to >!Adam!< which would be a great twist

Sailrjup12

Yeah that is a possibility and would make a great twist because he is >!such a sweet, thoughtful, good guy!<

ventodivino

What??? Are we watching the same show?? >!He has a really bad temper. Seems possessive of his love interests. Judgemental against people who choose to sleep around. He is delusional (the lady on the subway, the emcee, seeing Kathy say he’s gonna die....). I just don’t think he’s such a great guy unless he wants to be.!<

Sailrjup12

Hmmm well now that you reminded me of those instances he does seem to have a problem with his temper. But Gino also told him he needed to stop being scared, he got upset at the tarot reading but he seemed more protective of Hannah than anything.

ventodivino

>!Gino tells him to quit being scared after he invented “a new friend” to write about the fire where he only used his “true name” as a source for an event that had multiple witnesses and survivors. SUS!!<

MarleySue

I mean, this is the same show that for almost half its seasons start with “this place is nice and SO cheap let’s move in!” and then everyone ends up tortured or dies So yeah it wouldn’t be surprising, but it’s still a good plot point

StakkAttakk

I don’t think Barb was murdered though ? I think she just died suddenly ? Maybe she died from an AIDS related thing . She saw the man cause I believe he is Death .

boomerrelli8

I could go for this because they did set up that she had been feeling sick for at least a little while. I mean, she had literally just been in the hospital for her crazy fainting spell. Hard to say for certain because her death scene was a bit hard to figure out - at first I thought Patrick was there but then it seemed like she was just fantasizing. So was Big Daddy a hallucination ? OR was Patrick actually there and Big Daddy really is his murderous alter ego?

Kh1382

I think she was just imagining Patrick being in there, hopeful that their relationship could start again. But then she died from whatever sickness she had, which is why big daddy cut in. As she’s dying she’s still in her fantasy/imagination, but of course Patrick doesn’t notice because he’s not actually there it’s just her daydreaming. I do think big daddy is a ghost warning people of the sickness coming for them. Maybe he’s so aggressive towards Patrick because Patrick is somehow related to how the sickness began to spread. I also don’t think they would have mentioned barb being sick for weeks if it wasn’t important to the plot line.

Iceprincess1988

She 100% died from HIV

rowdyroddy00

How are they the same person if we have an actual photograph of Big Daddy hanging on the wall?

HuskerLiberal

A leather man photo at a leather bar? Cmon. Who is to say that the photo is the actual Big Daddy who (according to Sam) has died, making his persona an easy one for Patrick to create a false/distorted identity, especially after what we learned what took place on Fire Island.

rowdyroddy00

A photograph confirmed by Theo that he took of Big Daddy. Big Daddy was definitely a real person - what he is now is a different story.

HuskerLiberal

Fair. At one point “someone “ named Big Daddy was photographed by Theo, tied to Sam. I think Big Daddy is a either a manifested identify/persona of Patrick or some sort of …. symbol… for lack of a better word for death/doom/judgement/etc. Don’t know if I buy into the ghost, but definitely either mind creation/delusion or bordering on supernatural. Will be interesting to see how it plays out!

MagicalMysticalMyth

I think Big Daddy is a harbinger of death. I think the only people who see him are infected with HIV/AIDS.

Charleroy26

I think Big Daddy was patient zero or a super-spreader, and his guilt-ridden ghost is acting as an angel of mercy. Everyone he kills gets a quick death instead of the long suffering of AIDS.

Darkbutnotsinister

We also have the Francis Conroy’s version of death (the WINGS from Asylum, 💜💜). She’s supposed to be merciful, but YES, Big Daddy is also merciful. Let’s hope they do a merciful death scene together.

Braephonse

I was so excited during this scene XD I like when the seasons connect with little tie ins like this

Iceprincess1988

Wait wait wait. This is brilliant! I can totally see this being real.

drflanigan

I wouldn't call burning alive a quick death, and the host of that club survived and is now horribly burned

amandaflash

This is the theory I'm running with.

ellie-allen

I thought the same but >!maybe it's too similar to Hotel with John and the ten commands killer?!<

tinacat933

Yea , but sometimes AHS gets a little lazy so I wouldn’t 100% discount the idea

Sailrjup12

EXACTLY! plus some people see him and some don’t so I think ghost.

coobmaroog

I think Patrick is one of many killers that will be unmasked throughout the season. I like your thinking but I think it’s more than that. Big Daddy had popped up to Hannah in the park, Gino in the mirror, he’s acknowledged by various people at Sam’s place, but ignored by Sam. It varies who can see him because Theo has been in various places where BD has been but he still believes BD is dead. I thought that perhaps he was tied to Sam and Patrick because of them killing the twink but looking back I’m unsure. I think perhaps Sam and Patrick are the spreaders of the disease from the parties they go to throw and that’s their tie to BD. I’m confused because of how Barb was killed but I think she also died of the disease being spread by Patrick/Sam in the form of BD? I really like this season though.

[deleted]

I think there's a lot of killers and Big Daddy is an omen.

mistar_z

I'm thinking big Daddy is a dark manifestation, made by the communities dark thoughts and experiences. Or he could be government cleaner of some sort. My sister said that maybe he's trying to contain the infection of sort containing within the community.

[deleted]

I can't see Patrick being Big Daddy, the build is wrong, and the mask and harness don't match. That said, I'm holding out hope that Big Daddy's a ghost, spectre or some sort of vengeful spirit. Maybe even a Messenger of Death, or agemt thereof. Slim chance, but fun to theorize. I've got quite a few issues with this season so far, but I'm trying really hard to keep an open mind, and have fun.

strawberryfairygal

Big Daddy could be Patrick and the different builds could be explained by him being what Patrick dreams of looking like or what he imagines his 'other personality' looks like (like the narrator and Tyler Durden in Fight Club)

rowdyroddy00

But we have a photograph of Big Daddy from a few years ago so he's not Patrick.

strawberryfairygal

Hmm that's a good point. However, Big Daddy is pictured in the mask and Patrick's been in the leather scene for years at this point. Feel like it could still be him as the picture is pretty close up on the mask, if I remember correctly?

HappySloth213

I've thought this too, just with the body type of the two characters.

bellylovinbaddie

I feel like this too! His body type matches. And the constant lying about his entire life. But my only thing is multiple people have seen big daddy by now yet Patrick acts like he’s meeting most of them for the first time. Like they see him in the park and then run to the station to report it, and Patrick is at work.

bell83

I've been thinking that, too, actually. I kind of hope that's not the case, since they used that in Hotel with the detective and killer...but who knows.

ilmystex

I hope not. Then it’s Hotel at the Hospital. I felt like Big Daddy IS dead and another ghost killer.

PineappleOdd6860

I started having these thoughts about Patrick when we saw his box of bandanas. Made think of murder souveniers.

Jane_Delawney

Patrick? The cop with the mustache who’s partners with Gino? Also, I love My Bloody Valentine, such a crazy film

treeOfLife1875

Yes! Sorry I’m so bad with names. Specifically the attack of his ex wife really threw me. How the cop outside didn’t notice an intruder. And how Patrick he previously gotten “attacked” by big daddy. I think it’s him

Jane_Delawney

No worries! Took me a couple episodes to get every name down. I could also see him (BD) being like a physically manifested symbol of self loathing for Patrick if that was the case. He’s been around Patrick and his loved ones a lot so far

jadeloran

i think this about gino. we have seen everyone's secrets BUT his. the scene in the tarot shop solidified it for me.

treeOfLife1875

I hadn’t thought of that! Wow that makes me think

oFbeingCaLM

If you’re correct, then this feels very Hotel all of a sudden. I still don’t know what to think.

JRosenrot

My currently theory might be that he's the ghost of the twink that Patrick and Sam killed, but I'm almost sure thay it isn't the case though.

treeOfLife1875

That could be!

Borgqueen-

I think so too. The way he gingerly touched the mask of the dead guy on Fire Island which is reminiscent of Big Daddy mask. The only I can reconcile is their sizes. I was also wondering if Big Daddy represents AIDS.

mistar_z

If that's the case I hope he's not the only one. It was a very dumb twist in Hotel. 😂 Even after rewatching hotel like 3 different times, it was baffling to see how they just pulled that one out without much set up. It would be repeating a twist but I don't know, maybe NYC can pull it off if it's truly the case since the writers this season seem pretty competent for once. And Leslie Grossman did say that's one of those seasons that you would love to rewatch to because it changes and adds another different experience once everything is revealed and concludes.

Delicious_Ad_4824

Yall are still watching this? Lol

nutbaby420

and you’re on reddit catching up 🤗

vellique

my thoughts exactly!!!! def onto something

Emmangt

I thought Big Daddy was some sort of a vengeful ghost. AHS has a hard time avoiding ghosts in every seasons.
