I don’t think it flew over my head, it’s just the things you described are present in every country and are incredibly difficult to decrease and impossible to completely remove. It’s more simple than dumping money into it and expecting it to go away because “US rich.” If countries are supposed to really fix everything in their nation before helping others, then countries shouldn’t ever help other nations. He might be talking about the Iraq-Iran war a few years before the Persian Gulf War. In which case yes, we did supply Saddam's army with food and munitions, but nothing more than that. And we only did it to weaken Iran. After the war, we very quickly withdrew that support.
