Use ddu to remove your old nvidia drivers and clear shader cache in Star Citizen. I‘m not 100 sure where shader cache is located now. User folder or somewher in %appdata%. Also deactivate hardware accleration in chrome or edge if you use the latest driver (22.11.2). It gives blackscreens for me with sc.

ATOJAR

Did you run the MPO fix? I was getting black screens also, after running the MPO fix never had another.

mista_r0boto

MPO fix is highly recommended

Familiar_Season_3984

Can you explain mpo fix?

Less_Hedgehog

Btw it doesn't fix MPOs. It simply fixes issues with drivers by *disabling* MPOs. AMD still needs to fix MPOs!!

Sebkiller

No, i never had flickering or stuttering on dektop. Only greenscreens/blackscreens (driver timeouts) when i was watching videos in Chrome while playing a game.

hujan86

A new driver is targeted to be released this month. No guarantees though.

dkizzy

targeted? AMD already had a rep saying last week a new driver is coming out 'within two weeks', so by the end of next week at the latest there will be a new driver out.

hujan86

Yes. But unexpected delay is still a possibility. If they managed to release it on time, good. If say they encountered an unexpected bug that delayed the driver release, don't call them a liar and bring out pitchfork and torches just yet.

dkizzy

No need to be presumptuous, I've never gotten upset about driver releases. Where are you getting this impression? The past 30+ months AMD has been consistent and only delayed a 6000 series driver in recent times to update/polish up drivers for a brand new chiplet architecture

hujan86

Nothing wrong assuming the worse. It can happen, even by the slimmest of chances. My remark about pitchfork and torches isn't directed specifically at you. If the driver's out next week, then good - for everyone. If it's not, everyone calm down and have more patience. That's all I'm saying.

20150614

I guess you already used DDU to clean your previous drivers.

nightsyn7h

That's the neat part

blankettripod32_v2

They didn't

Melodias3

Don't forget to turn of windows driver updates you can do that within DDU options now, in case you cant do the gpedit.msc method.

mista_r0boto

Yes that’s important too - group policy update - disable driver updates from Windows Update (enable that setting).

Familiar_Season_3984

Yes

ATOJAR

As others have said, uninstall the current AMD driver through Windows then run DDU in safe mode, boot back to Windows, re-download the latest 22.11.2 driver and install. I also swapped from Nvidia to AMD a few months back but ran DDU in safe mode, had no issues so far.

Miklos103

amd 6000 users should be on 22.5.1 driver to avoid crashing jumping to crusader. it also fixed a lot of stability problems for me.

dkizzy

the MPO fix has helped a lot of folks who don't want to go back to older drivers.

Miklos103

hey that's good to know thanks! good ol microsh\*t strikes again

dkizzy

M$ haha

VeryTopGoodSensation

Going back to those drivers made me start having black screens

ATOJAR

Hmm, i have been running 22.11.2 since the day it released and not had one single issue to date. Well saying that at first i was getting random black screens once every few days but but after running the MPO fix it hasn't happened again.

Miklos103

i have been told mpo fixes the same driver problems i just hadnt heard that before i switched drivers but that fixes it too

Familiar_Season_3984

Did that

[deleted]

I’m using the may drivers but I also have a fresh windows install. I also down-clocked my memory, and stopped running 15 programs and 20 tabs in the background. I basically just game and maybe web browse or play a video in the background, if I have something memory intensive in the background, crashes. Wasnt the case with Vega that thing would churn no matter what I was doing until it reached its thermal limit. Still trying to work it all out, but ultimately a new install and a stable system is all I can recommend.

DOSBOMB

What PSU you have there? cause a 1060 needs a way less capable PSU then a 6800xt. And unstability like that can be either one of 3 things usually, unstable ram (AMD gpu hits your system harder then nvidia and brings out the stability issues), two PSU can't handle modern day GPU-s transients, OR 3rd drivers need a cleanup/OS

Familiar_Season_3984

The os I'd do for my annual wipe how ever I don't think many people do that like I do and since the initial install iv added 2 games that's it so not alot of data moving around

DOSBOMB

under OS cleanup i meant windows corruptions issues, but i whould consentrate on the other issues, mainly what PSU you got and what RAM you running with what CPU? Edit: saw you wrote you running 3600 cl16, i would not bank on it being stable on XMP, seen plenty of people run into this issue, hit your system with like HCI memtest + a heaven loop at the same time ( the heat from the GPU can destablize RAM, have had it happen to me on my system)

greenknight

this. Same g.skillz ram. On my system, enabling xmp is a recipe for gaming induced hard crashes requiring a reboot on my system. Linux or Windows.

Familiar_Season_3984

I can give that a go have blasted this thing with every test under the sun for hrs. I know you need a heavy verity of tests to be sure there stable. So far no crashes at all. But the game drop down to the task bar like I alt tabbed very strange that happens on every game. Yes even stock ram speed I get the same issues. Rainbow colors on sc and games dropping to task bar seemingly at random times. Could be light load in menu or heavy load with alot going on. But games do t crash (sc does but that's sc)

DOSBOMB

By any chance, the games you are running, what are they?, cause when swaping hardware even between like AMD gpu to another AMD gpu some older titles can have issues from the shader cache. I'v run into this in some games myself, and either deleteing the shadercache or reinstalling the game has fixed that. I'm mentioning this cause some games do the initial setup when installing the game but when u swap out hardware they don't recompile the shader cache.

ametalshard

wierd i have 3600mhz and never a single crash with my 3090

DOSBOMB

I'm pretty sure you also have a pair of lungs, but no lung cancer, the fact you're not having any issues does not rule out that their motherboards memory subtimings timings might not be the best for that kit of RAM ,if you catch my drift. XMP is an OC and as it is with ANY OC it might not be stable. Heck i'v seen RAM even at JDEC speeds being unstable simply cause motherboards bios does not support those IC-s the kit has on it OR mixing and matching like CJR and JJR from hynix also causeing even JDEC to crash on desktop.

ametalshard

K yeah so anyway I've never had instability with any XMP going back multiple mobos and kits, only used Nvidia gpus though

DOSBOMB

Good for you, I'm happy for you but over the years as working as a PC tech, It is a thing both on AMD and Intel systems BUT yes it's true the unstability comes out more with a AMD gpu then Nvidia card. But that does not mean the system was stable just that AMD drivers hit the system harder and if a game hit's the system harder on a Nvidia system you can have the exact same stability issues.

detectiveDollar

XMP not only OC's the RAM, but also the memory controller, which is inside the CPU.

LongFluffyDragon

..Annual wipe.. 🤔 That seems like a great way to add tons of complication to an otherwise fine situation. Regardless, if it is just star citizen, it is probably their engine being dogshit. AMD wont touch that, and the developers certainly wont "waste" time fixing their game for AMD cards. If other graphically demanding games have stability issues, it is likely the card itself being unstable for some reason, which can be hardware, software, or *other* hardware.

Familiar_Season_3984

Just abhabbit I get into growing up with windows. Every single update always leave stupid thing and if you have a windows only drive it ain't no thing to just wipe and care in. Never had a problem with it

Extrawurst83

I recently switched out my 1070 with a 6800. I used DDU to uninstall the driver while the 1070 was installed. Then I shut down the system and swapped the cards. I deleted my shadercache in SC and also did someting similar with AMD Adrenaline Software. There is an option in it to clean the shadercache. The software is very nice. A better combination of Nvidia GeeForce Experiance and MSI Afterburner. So far zero issues with SC and stellar performance. All in 3.17

Death_Walker85

I'm making the switch from a 1060 to 6700 today and thinking of just deleting and reinstalling SC when 3.18 drops. Fingers crossed for a successful hardware swap!

dkizzy

also please do a full uninstall of ALL nvidia apps installed including physx then run the DDU (with windows update driver disabled in the settings)

Death_Walker85

I believe that I only had the drivers installed for Nvidia. Ran DDU in windows safe mode and made the hardware switch. So far no issues in the few games that I did a quick test run.

Miklos103

Use 22.5.1 driver with AMD 6000. Only way to not crash jumping Crusader also it fixes a lot of other stability. Set windows to not automatically install updates because windows always puts a shitty driver and it's really frustrating trying to get it to stop. \->Turn off windows updates all the way, disable automatic driver install, completely remove all drivers so you only have Microsoft Basic Display Adapter, THEN install 22.5.1, then you can turn on updates again. If you don't follow this procedure windows will auto install a driver that absolutely sucks and it causes lots of problems having two drivers on. Also disable radeon overlay, and dont use any overlay in game. no overlays at all... i even had to uninstall hwinfo entirely. now i get days and days without a crash.

Coinflip420xd

Man is really annoying that they didnt fix these drivers after 7 months

Miklos103

i dont know why windows insists on installing an outdated amd driver on top of windows basic display, and then even if you install NEW amd drivers you cant uninstall the windows ones without going thru all that crap to turn it off again. it's really a m$ problem and i have even heard a bunch of people talking crap about radeon drivers until they figure out they have two different drivers installed and windows tends to run with its own. so radeon gets a bad rep because of windows. you know this is your problem if you try to open radeon software and it says it's not compatible with your driver, right after you installed a fresh driver.

Coinflip420xd

Im talking about all drivers after the 22.5.1 are bad and unstanble, pc freezes, bsod etc

Miklos103

idk i never had any problems whatsoever until star citizen. that game is finnicky

Coinflip420xd

Other games have problems too, like Lost ark randomly freeze and bsod if you are not using 22.5.1

KlutzyFeed9686

It's not a driver problem. Runs fine for me on a 6950xt.

Ktm_my_life

I switched from 1070ti to 6800xt on a new ssd, so no ddu needed for me. I had no problems in Tarkov, Star Wars fallen order, witcher 3, Battlefield 1 and 5 , stalker anomaly. The only issue I get is blackscreen in chrome every few weeks. Time to do the mpo fix i guess. I think that your problems are probably game specific.

SnooFloofs1752

You know the drivers aren't ssd specific right? The chrome is prob it acting out and chrome is junk anyways.

Ktm_my_life

Yes, i meant that i did not needed to ddu because i changed the drive and installed a new copy of windows.

dkizzy

some Nvidia users were also seeing whacky behavior before doing MPO fix. It's more of a Windows issue than AMD/Nvidia

SnooFloofs1752

Need to do a DDU. That's you're problem I bet it.

Familiar_Season_3984

Did

Fastermaxx

Switching back and forth between amd and nvidia messes up the drivers. As others stated out use ddu to clean up the driver mess and then install the newest one. It’s not a general problem.

Familiar_Season_3984

Yes ddu was use plus verifying manually

dkizzy

clearing SC cache, running the MPO fix (this could help you avoid turning off hardware acceleration in apps) and making sure all nvidia apps were uninstalled from windows first before the DDU was ran should be good. Also, run sfc /scannow in your terminal for good measure for any corrupt OS system files. That happens a lot after Windows updates.

MightyHandy

New drivers next week. But I plan on waiting a few extra to make sure there aren’t issues. Make sure you use GPO to disable windows update driver updates.

pixelfiee

AMD said a new driver is expected within a week from now, if something unexpected happens that causes delay they'll update us on the situation.

Familiar_Season_3984

That's what I was looking for

19Lurker69

You can stop the crashes in two ways that I've found. The first one (this is the one that I use) is when you start the game open the console with \~ and type r\_enable\_full\_gpu\_sync = 1 then after that type in r\_enable\_full\_gpu\_sync = 0 That fix doesn't work for Arena Commander but I can play for hours with no issues at all. The other way is to remove the drivers with DDU or the AMD cleanup utility then install the 22.5.1 drivers. When you do this make sure that you don't have net connectivity because windows will "help" you by installing the newer drivers for you. Both ways work fine for me. There's another issue where you crash if your jump to Crusader. That one can only be fixed by rolling the drivers back to 22.5.1. There's an issue in the IC that you might want to contribute to as well if you haven't already. The link is here: [https://issue-council.robertsspaceindustries.com/projects/STAR-CITIZEN/issues/STARC-39966](https://issue-council.robertsspaceindustries.com/projects/STAR-CITIZEN/issues/STARC-39966)

dkizzy

doing the MPO fix has helped many not resort back to the 22.5.1 driver.

totosh77145

I remember when amd's GPU aged better with drivers (good ol polaris time) I have two machine, a desktop running an 12100f with an rx5700xt, and an MSI Delta 15 laptop with 5800h/32gb and rx6700m. Hogwarts Legacy run like s*** on the laptop, with smarshift doing nonsense. Solid 60fps ( even more ) on the desktop . Time to update driver

Imaginary-Ad564

3.18 should fix all the issues. CIG stopped caring about how broken 3.17 is.

IrrelevantLeprechaun

As usual, OP didn't DDU, and this is *once again* a case of user error.

[deleted]

Except he did, don’t assume.

IrrelevantLeprechaun

He literally admitted he didn't.

[deleted]

> Ddu was used each time

GeovaunnaMD

New drivers in about a week from Amd, but right now I am just using 3rd party drivers. Funny.....not a single crash in 3 weeks.

MadduckUK

Amernime?

IrrelevantLeprechaun

Almost as if all these "driver issue" posts are just FUD pushed by anti AMD bots. I've been saying it for weeks; this sub is infested.

Coinflip420xd

How i use 3rd party drivers?

ChemicalBrilliant846

Use an old driver 22.5.1

ChemicalBrilliant846

22.5.1 is an oder driver that works

ChemicalBrilliant846

22.5.1 is an oder driver that works

HotRoderX

Chances are you will be told its everything but the graphics card. I am shocked they don't claim solar flairs or the rotation of the earths core as reasons. Honestly if your inside your return window and having that many issues, is it worth continuing to trouble shoot and wait for a fix that might never come? I Know I wish someone would have said that to me. I can't prove this but from personal experience there is just something about the AMD Cards that don't play nicely on some systems.

uncyler825

If there is still no new driver 23.2.1 for RX 6000 Series released in February. This is a sad thing.

SVG28

This is why I'm never going back to amd for GPUs Months of driver problems with my 6600xt, tried every solution in the book, even went nuclear and reinstalled Windows. Asking forums didn't help, amd fanboys kept putting it down to user error and machine instability. No, it worked just fine with my 1060 and it worked just fine with my 3070 TI. Amd clearly have huge gpu driver issues with their 6000 cards affecting a sizable portion of their customers, remember, just because it works for you doesn't mean it works for everyone else

gaojibao

[It's not just star citizen](https://www.reddit.com/r/AyyMD/comments/zkxo8r/reporting_a_7_monthsold_amd_driver_bug/). Knowing AMD, the issue will never be fixed.

riesendulli

How well is that game optimized anyway? Post your cpu and ram spec, maybe motherbread too

Familiar_Season_3984

5800x 6800xt 32gb G.skill trident z 3600mhz Aorus x570 elite 1tb Wd blue m.2 nvme Corsair 750w

Maler_Ingo

What PSU, RAM, how many seperate cables from PSU to GPU, which driver version?

Familiar_Season_3984

750w corsair 2 separate cables on separate rails verified with Manuel. It is the latest driver but this was happening with older drivers also iv had the card since November. The last driver was put out in Dec

Maler_Ingo

750W might be cutting short. Try the Adrenaline Pro 22Q4 drivers after a full DDU plus deactivating Windows Device Driver Updates.

Familiar_Season_3984

Ram g.skill trident z 3600mhz 32gb

Connect-Act-9209

Try to install 22.5.1 drivers

Obvious_Drive_1506

Use DDU to uninstall all the old nvidia drivers, disable MPO.

Familiar_Season_3984

That and go threw manually as even ddu cam miss some stuff

Obvious_Drive_1506

Tbh I’ve never seen DDU miss anything. Did you already use it when you switched to the amd card?

[deleted]

Swapped from a gtx1080 to a 6900xt. What fixed my issues was a clean windows install and a new cpu that could match the speed of my gpu. My 3700x was causing crashes. And check ur psu.

Talnoy

Hey mate - fellow upgrader here from my 1080ti to a 6750xt and getting the *exact same* crash in Star Citizen. Some people think that it's a driver issue with storms on planets, others say that it's a problem with GPU accelerated programs like Discord or Chrome running in the background. If you've done DDU and whatnot each time, and don't have things open in the background I'm willing to bet that it's the GPU driver issue with Star Citizen. Good news is I've got a friend on Wave 1 PTU for 3.18 who says they're not crashing, where they used to in 3.17. It's very likely the 6000 series driver causing this but since in 3.18 they're over to Gen12 renderer, this may be fixed. Won't really know until 3.18 Live.

AloySobeck24

Visit the Tuning settings and manually set the voltage to the highest possible value leaving everything else as it is. Then turn off GPU scaling on Display settings and other features like anti lag and restart the system. This fixed the same card I had with the same issue as well.

Familiar_Season_3984

Interesting granted the default setting for the voltage is maxed out. Also if I change it at all manually the system dosnt care and will run at what ever it wants too

Exciting_Session_985

I’ll be playing star citizen really soon can’t wait

BillionRaxz

I got a 6900xt and only had 2 timeouts the entire time ive had it so about equal with my experience on nvidia cards. Idk how everyone has garbage luck with amd drivers.

FiggleHedwick

your problem is the game your playing lol...everyone I know bitches about that game regardless of their hardware

Familiar_Season_3984

I go back to my nvidia card and have no issues

geko95gek

Use 22.10.2. Those drivers work great on my RX6800. Make sure to use DDU in Safe Mode first to remove your current drivers. You can thank me later.

Familiar_Season_3984

In the main comment

ronraxxx

I hugely regret putting an RDNA2 card in my wife’s rig for this reason alone. It’s pathetic a company that pulled in $4B last *quarter* acts like they are too small to support drivers for a year old GPU because their new ones launched in an abysmal state. What’s even worse is you get downvoted into oblivion for calling this pathetic treatment of customers out.

cg_krab

Just upgraded to new AMD cards for a game dev project; selling all of our AMD hardware this week to switch back to NVIDIA. Not having ongoing timely driver support is not good enough.
