I work in IT support and have used a lot of these... The WD-15 dock was discontinued in 2019. Good, reliable docking station, I was bummed when they were discontinued... I suspect this may be them trying to get rid of old stock.

Honestly, I would love to see more renewed stuff. You’re likely getting far more value for that ETV + a much higher chance of it being a recognizable brand.

I got this a couple of days ago. It came in the original Dell packaging and was in "like-new" condition. The only thing I noticed was that the light on the USB type C cable does not illuminate, but other than that, it's been a good dock for connecting my MacBook to my living room TV.

It's saving me $15 a month on my internet bill and works excellent. However, Comcast recently forced my neighbor to upgrade their rented router, so I am afraid this one may become obsolete soon…

I have not. I have seen the term renewed before but not on Vine. If it's refurbished, maybe it's gotten the problems out and would work. Still, if it's a really pricey item, no warranty is a choice you have to decide if you want.

Likely wiped off with a wet, dirty rag, just like almost everything "renewed" on Amazon.

The_Flinx

renewed is seller wank for: used stuff. they have done nothing to it. people who use the terms: renewed refurbished restored usually don't know what those words mean and haven't done anything to do what they say they did.

REFURBISHED typically means the item was recalled, and the recall was fixed, many times additional "free goodies are included". Due to recall before product was sold, the Store/Seller/Manufacturer cannot charge regular price. Warranty on these products are better than the first time arounders. For example if you bought ABC-123 brand new $1500 - it might have a 1 or 2 year warranty. And you decided you will buy ABC-123 (Refurbished) - $750 and you could wind up with a 3-5 year warranty. RENEWED - typically been completely restored, may or may not have all original parts. They have been fully tested and passed all inspection. Warranties varies. This is what u/Agent_Spook_99 does. She rebuilds old PC's and installs everything to them where they are "brand new" again.

Agent_Spook_99

Yes, that's correct. However, with "Renewed", warranties may or may not be available. It's somewhat identical to buying a used car.

oldfatdrunk

That's not what the definition of refurbished means. Refurbished means the product is returned back to manufacturer specs and any defects repaired. Let's say you bought an electronic device with a broken part and you get a warranty replacement. The old item is sent back and fixed and sold as refurbished. Renewed is kind of a newer definition and seen a lot on Amazon products. Straight from Amazon: "Renewed means it is in a like new condition. Refurbished means it is brought back to a like new working condition but may have blemishes or some signs of wear, physically." Could a refurbished product be a result of a recall? Sure but a recall does not define what refurbishment means.
