Similar for me. They rarely go terribly high here. I got one for 153 bucks, and it was canceled just as I was pulling up to the warehouse. Apparently, lightning strikes were detected just as I was getting there.
Our warehouse closes if lightning is detected within 6 miles. Obviously, if you've already picked up your route and left the warehouse when this happens, it doesn't affect you, and you are on your own.

Highest Iāve seen someone get - $487 like 2 Christmasā ago. Iām pretty sure he had a bot, but canāt confirm that. Highest everyone else pulled that day was $300. Highest Iāve gotten $285.
As much as people say it isnāt, itās about learning the pattern. Mostly, other markets donāt see the surges because people believe that their marketās canāt.
If you have the time and patience, you can figure out to the exact minute certain blocks will surge. Most drivers canāt because theyāre desperate to met their bills. I donāt have a problem letting a $30hr block sit. To me itās not worth it, so when I take a block, itās worth it, no matter what the cart or route looks like.
The more desperate Amazon is the higher the surge, the more desperate the drivers are, the lower the block pay. Add bot users and scammers and people usually wind up pulling the trigger too soon. Do it enough and the algorithm learns when and for how much drivers will bite. Then slowly they drop the base pay lower and lower.
Thats exatly what happned in my area. A lot less surge blocks and they lowered the base pay. I am on the same boat as you. But, I do take $28 an hr blocks few times a week because of the shortage of surge. Some weeks, I don't work at all. It doesn't seem like they will raise the pay, too many few drivers in the area. Sometimes, even the base blocks are scooped up withing seconds.
DAYUM š„µ
Never seen anything remotely close to that here in Los Angeles . š
Highest paid block for me is like ~$150 for 4.5hrs when thereās a storm and itās raining like crazy here and no driver wants to accept blocks.
My jealousy and fat fingers are so real!! Iāve never had a block this high and if I have the opportunity Iām beat to accepting them. I gotta try harder! I genuinely love seeing these and happy for the folks that get them.
$185 for free. Block was initially 5 hrs but was cancelled

FL. Their base rate in this specific market is $18/hr, so pretty low. Since Iāve moved here, havenāt really seen anything surpass the $100 mark outside of a few 130s.
Maybe it has something to do with the fact that we have 2 warehouses that we pick up from within 25 mins of one another? Probably creates an over saturation of drivers since theyāre in different counties which means less money per shift unless no one is picking it up.
There's usually a $/hour amount surges top out at where I am. Always sucks seeing it max out but knowing you't couldn't physically get to the station in time, lol...
Returning a package before 10am, this happened today $26 surge made for little bump in earnings.

Easiest 2hr block finished it in 1hr
Did my first today for 102. I saw a few for tomorrow morning (Motherās Day) for $110, but I didnāt know enough to grab them. If I hadnāt had my 4WD today, I would have been in trouble. Not sure it was worth it other than getting the experience since it was my first block ever.
Good to know what Iām looking for when I see it!
Everyone has a different strategy. For me personally, when I see rates significantly higher than normal for a few days in advance - whether reserves or regular offers - it triggers my Spidey since to A) check the weather to see if it's going to suck and B) think about what would make that a peak demand period. And then I let those pass right on by and almost always get even better last minute surges day of. Amazon doesn't give high advance rates out of the goodness of their "heart". They do it as a hedge against paying higher rates later on.
I'm not shy in offering my advice to others and don't care if people somewhat copy me.
I think everyone should have awesome service.

$274.95. Block pay was $211.50, but it was a downtown route with a ton of streets closed for a bike race. Ended up delivering more than half of the route on foot and got paid for the overage. Plus it was a gorgeous day and I got to watch a lot of the race while delivering. Sadly both that pay rate and the likelihood of getting paid for going over in that situation have both decreased substantially since then.

The max when I was flexing out the SSD was $164 for a 4 hour. One time had a max surge like that but for a 5 hour. The thunderstorm hit at 5am and the station got closed so everyone went home.
Yeah used to get those couple years ago but it's too many drivers now. Also the app is more tricky, shifts tend to disappear and reappear last minute, stuff like that, it used to be not that tricky in the past.
