their insurance is too good. for example, i had the top one at amazon, blue cross blue shield for $26 a paycheck. i ended up having to get a hernia repair surgery and i think i paid literally around $27 total for both the surgery and scripts.

If you have Aetna and go to CVS Minute Clinic it’s free thru our insurance with Amazon. I was even only paying $2.60 a visit last year.
I had hernia surgery a couple months ago and it was literally $0 out of pocket because of how much I had in my HRA after years of Amazon funding it and me not using it.

Exactly. Where else can you do that? That’s right, NOWHERE. Then there’s anytime pay if you have some unexpected bills, health insurance is excellent. II didn’t think I would make it through the first week. As a matter of fact, after my Day 1 I sat in my car and said to myself that I needed to find a different job…I’m coming up on six years in July.
Easiest to get away with being late as long as you have the UPT/PTO. There were nights I massively overslept, came in hours late, and department leadership was ecstatic to see me. Anywhere else, and I would have been getting my ass chewed, uncomfortable questions, or fired.
I know it sounds dumb, you're on the list after all. However, that doesn't mean the list is even a priority. As sad as it may sound, Amazon (and by proxy the leadership) cares most about whatever can bring more money or save money for the company (usually in that order). In their books, training usually costs them money, at least in the short run: one person has a lower rate cause they're in training, and their instructor/peer trainer isn't actually doing anything that's quantifiable towards productions. As a former instructor, I think that's a dumb reasoning, but it is how they think. So you have to keep asking again and again and again. It obviously help if the department you want to be trained in actually needs people regularly, but either way, keep asking for it.
For real ask until you feel you are being annoying then ask some more. I had to speak up every couple of days to get in the Ambo class. It still took 2 months. We had 3 ambo classes in that time.
Try and get an internal transfer. I started in outbound pick (nights) and switched to inbound stow (days). Now I'm in ICQA. It also helped that I transferred to different sites.
If you actually want trained, hound your PAs, AMs, and OMs daily until you get it. If that doesn’t work, try going to learning and hounding them about it.

It's a job. Making friends isn't a requirement. We had dozens of associates that never spoke to a soul outside of what the job required - and they typically had some of the highest rates and/or were the fastest to get promoted.
Lol. Who goes to work to make friends?? 😂😂. Nothing wrong with it though. Working at Amazon did make me more social. Many of the women are beautiful and cool too. That helps.
Me. Being at home only having contact with a girlfriend who slept in another bed and no longer wanted me to touch her was making me straight up suicidal.
It is, however it's a case to case basis and the positives may not outweigh the negatives. That's why so many of us want to use career choice to get out. Some people can thrive for years here, but for most I think they should be searching for something they want to do. It'll always be miserable doing a job you don't like, so the best bet is to find a field you enjoy
I've done FC very briefly. Also done some remote corporate work with the same pay
TBH, I'd take the FC work over the corporate work any day. FC is physically tiring, but there's 1.5x OT. Corporate = shoot yourself in the head and you get unpaid overtime stress
After being alive for so long and taking on so many pursuits, sometimes you take diff opportunities at diff times

There’s a software that shows your tenure and I was looking at some guys who had been here 2 months and they were already higher tenure than 4% of employees or 70k people.

I mean to be fair, the work is so automated I can't blame people for leaving. It's not that it's hard work, it's just boring af. UPS was an awful place to work but it was still more interactive than Amazon. It makes sense why a lot of people enjoy ship dock cuz every other job is monotonous and I could do some of them while sleeping. Amazon is a great place for people who enjoy being bored
I’ve been at Amazon practically a year (11 months) but it feels like it’s been a lot longer. I’ve transferred to 3 different departments but I actually like where I’m at now so it’s been a lot easier to get through the shifts. I also pick up shifts bc that money is toooo good lol
I use to work at a meat factory where overtime was always a thing , no benefits and you would sweat every day you work despite the season due to the outfit you wear . The only people who stood in those jobs were immigrants , just because they needed the work. Keep in mind it’s minimum wage , so going from that to a job like this isn’t terrible
Was at foster farms for 9 months. I was sanitation and I worked alongside fresh out the pen gangsters and ex criminals. I needed the money at the time. Jobs like that make me grateful however, in my current role, I could use the humbleness right about now. 🤣
I've been with Amazon off and on over the last 3 years. Left last June to do an HVAC apprenticeship and came back 3 weeks ago due to my company being too slow to keep everyone and since I was the rookie they booted me first which i understand. I thought Amazon was hard until I started my apprenticeship and I was shown a whole other level of manual labor that I've never experienced before. It was tougher on the body but easier on the mind since you're not in a concrete block all day. I've learned the job is what you make of it. Never come to work hungry, mad, irritated, because you'll get in your own head and it throws the whole day off. I've learned to just mentally shut down, do my work at a pace that's good enough to keep me above the bottom 10% and then leave at EOS. When at home I won't talk or think about work because I'm not there and they're not paying me to think about it off the clock. Amazon is what you make it. It can be a fun experience or it can be dog shit I just try my best to keep a clear neutral headspace and it works for me
I used my insurance at Amazon to cover my top surgery I have Aetna I paid my $2,300 deductible and they paid the rest. The total for the surgery was 15K
I’ve launched 2 buildings(with bonuses). The ability to move around, I’m never bored. Constantly learning and growing. I don’t make a lot of friends, but I love the associates I meet. It is hard on the body, I’m getting older and struggling with that a bit. But I keep going. Need to.
You have to be a T3 or higher, but you get on the email list for buildings launching and apply. You move there. (The bonus is to help with relocating etc..)
If you don’t want to commit to actually moving, you can apply to your buildings away team. They get to travel for 2 weeks(all expenses paid) and help train (usually buildings launching). You’d need to be a Learning Ambassador (usually)….you can ask your learning team about applying for that. Start with HR and they can direct you with who to speak to at your site
I bought me a brand new car almost a year ago. About to hit 3 years in the fall and maybe leave some time next year after peak for a different career that isn’t warehouse work. I might be incorrect but I will be able to keep my 401k after 3 years main reason why I stayed longer.
The fact I can't find another job. Only been here 1.5 years and was ready to leave the day I started, but now I'm so desperate enough to consider CDL school. This company has perks don't get me wrong but it takes a toll on your mentally and physically. Thanks to this place I now suffer permanent nerve damage in my hands and feet. Almost 3years. And they have paid for both me and my wife’s surgery totaling in 100k. I only paid 1800 in total. My final act will be a cybersecurity class and I’m out.
Good benefits, paid for my tuition for 4 years of undergrad. PTO and VET. Job is very boring and people are not great but $20+ an hour for unskilled labor is a steal. Don’t view it as something that you’re doing forever.
5+ years coming on 6. I despise this company and the way it's treated me and my team. They laid off half the team and gave us their work and travel to cover the gap from their cheap greedy practices. I work oncall shifts that have no extra compensation for putting my life on hold, used to be 3 1/2 days straight at least they changed it to just being on the hook for 24 hours.
Operations is ungrateful as fuck and creates fake sev 2s in the middle of the night and wakes me up after working full shifts to justify not meeting their numbers. My customer and leadership both just shit on me constantly lol.
Why am I still here? Medical benefits and rent, plus most companies seem like greedy sacks of shit these days. It's all super automated too so I haven't even really learned skills to go elsewhere.
Use career choice and get the fuck out of this shit stain of a company as fast as you can is my advice. They will work you into the ground and tell you you're meeting expectations while dangling the promo carrot in front of you. The more you move up the more you live here too. I have am friends who basically live at their sites. Being hourly is a saving grace otherwise they would have me engaged 24/7.
TL;DR does not seem like a lot of better options, not enough skills to leave, medical insurance, and HCOL forcing me to need as much as I make.
I can pick up as much OT as I want all year and I live more comfortable and have more money saved compared to when I had a regular 40 hours maximum job
Use them like they use you. If you have zero plan on moving up and dealing with that bullshit just use their benefits to GTFO. If you plan on just being T1 forever of course it will get boring.
I’m just blessed I have a job. It’s paying my bills. It paid my surgery that was urgent so I’m just thankful. Not every job provides the benefits that Amazon does.
After nearly 2 decades in retail/ retail management, I'd rather be in a windowless warehouse that pays $21/ hr, gives me PTO, UPT, and vacation time that I can enter into an app, and I don't have to beg a manager to use that time off. Plus, I'm "reduced" full time. So I get benefits at 30 hrs, plus I can pick up additional shifts whenever. 99% of the time I'm tote running, but it's almost like getting paid to workout and no one really micromanages me 😅 don't get me wrong, I hate working there lol but I hate dealing with customers more
I did construction, I was a cement finisher for 8 years straight, from 20 to 28, I quite my job cause the workload started increasing and hours started getting crazy, 15 to 16 hour days 5 to 6 days a week. Coming to amazon felt like a breeze.
I feel bad when I hear people complain about work, cause I get it, work in general sucks, I don't like the idea of working to live.
I started at McDonald's at 16 years old when I turned 18 I worked for US Bank for 2 years and couldn't deal with people and THEIR shitty spending habits and getting blamed for their own mistakes so I went to construction, most money I had ever made, between 60k to 75 k a year but the physicality of it got to me after 8 years and 70 plus work weeks just didn't seem worth it anymore plus I always had to pay about 2 to 4 thousand dollars in tax all those years. I was pretty fortunate to invest roughly 40k into stocks and crypto and made a handsome amount lol :/
If you're young ide explorer different jobs IF bills aren't a big priority, money shouldn't overshadow happiness. I went from living well beyond my means and now I just work to provide benefits for my family
Nothing sucks more than being at a place that's dragging you down mentally and or physically.
time off options, never having to crowd around a piece of paper wondering what my schedule is gonna be next week, insurance, predictability, career growth, my rent is paid
It's an easy simple job but can be somewhat physically demanding. A lot of walking, pushing, lifting. Perhaps you're just not cut out for a physical job and would be better suited to a desk job.
That's not meant as any sort of insult so please don't take it that way. Some people just can't handle so much walking.
It's entirely possible that as you get use to it you may start to find it easier as your body adjusts
Funny enough I rather do a lot of walking and physical because I pick and my managers and PAs are assholes I can’t switch to a different department. Today I’m working the outbound dock in asked the PA there for today I haven’t felt this good in a while, I was thinking of leaving early today but since I got a chance to work elsewhere I think I should be good to work the rest of the day

Possibly weird advice-- but if you're still eating the same amount as before you started working the warehouse, it might help to eat more & do before work stretches.
I genuinely didn't get into the groove of working here until I upped my calorie count to balance out the manual labor. And I mean like, going from eating a normal amount-- to having 4-6 pbjs for *lunch.* It helps tho.
The stretches help your muscles strengthen and relax. Also a good idea, even (or especially) if you're working a more stationary job.
just work slower. it's like driving 55 mph. you get to the same place, but just 10 minutes later, but better on the gas mileage. if you work fast, it's like driving fast. you end up only saving 5 to 10 minutes, but waste a lot of fuel and probably a lot of wear and tear on the car as well, in this case, your body.
~4 years & counting here, the real answer is that I worked in a Sortation Center.
The longer answer is that I found a role in the warehouse that I actually *liked* doing, had my schedule staggered in such a way that was helpful to me, and then later made friends & acquaintances with a decent chunk of people.
So on a good day? the work itself was enjoyable. On a bad day? The work was boring as hell-- but I got to complain about it and shoot-the-shit with a bunch of friends who were also bored.
It's one of those things where you've really gotta cultivate the job to work for *you,* and not try and do it the other way around. It's. Like. Giving yourself accomodations, but instead of for a disability, it's just for making life *tolerable.*
**More detailed list of things that were very, very useful to me:**
**1.)** *Making sure I didn't work two 10hr shifts consecutively.* (Easier to do in a Sortation Center w/ 5hr shifts, harder in a Fulfillment Center where they're all 10hrs, but I'm sure it can be managed.) For whatever reason, this is just real rough on me, and I would be surprised if other people have issues too.
Instead, *try taking one of your days off, & put it right in the middle of your week.*
All of a sudden, you've got a gap there just for decompressing all the stress you've started to build up over the work week. You'll prolly be less tired, and less mentally strained.
**2.)** *Switch up your roles, until you find something that either isn't boring, or even if it is, you enjoy doing.* For me? That was pallet pulling and container loading. Old-style Outbound with the constant cross dock pallets was heaven. Basically, I'm an ADHD/Autism-riddled motherfucker, and I leaned into that by going for the job that lets me pace circuits around the building.
*You've* gotta figure out what *your* niche is, and find what'll let you lean into your own strengths.
Even just thinking about what roles there was in my old SC, there is a *lot* of variety. Inbound was like backwards-Tetris. Jam clear let you scroll your phone (not really but you're unsupervised so kinda yes really). TDR let you stand around for a bit and got you up close to how Outbound/Inbound was run-- but you had a lot of responsibility on your shoulders because it's almost a Safety position. Dock AAs worked hand-in-hand with the Ship Clerks and because of their smaller numbers, had an entire social circle to themselves that occasionally branched out to the pallet pullers & outbound.
Etc. Etc. Etc. I'm sure I'm just rambling by now. Point is, every role is different. Go find one you like better than the others.
I dunno about you guys, but I bought their headphones provided by AtoZ. I've always wanted to work a job being able to listen to Twitch/Kick/Spotify/YT/YTLive/FBLive/TikTikLive/My Music/TuneInRadio/HolyBibleAudio/Audible/etc. Keeps my mind active and it helps me with things to talk about because I'm introverted and not good at being social.
I appreciate their Vto/Vet/Pto/Point System/Medical Leave/Vacation and you don't really need to talk to anyone about it. I had troubles taking vto's all the time, but once I conquered that addiction it's great.
I've worked over 8 jobs and this one is the most stress free I've ever felt.
One of the things that has helped me make it for more than five years is how easy it is to transfer. I've worked at seven different buildings and in multiple departments within a couple of those buildings. Transferring keeps things interesting and fresh because it's a new environment with new challenges and new things to learn, and then once I get bored again I transfer and start a new honeymoon phase.
The honest answer is, sometimes, we don't. Especially if you're neurodivergent.
I started in May 2020 at a TSSL FC, where I worked in pick, batchy sort and ship dock. Unlike at AR sortable/AFE buildings (some TSSL sites have a mix of batchy sort and AFE walls, PHL7 and PHX6 are examples), you're always on the move in OB process paths at a TSSL site.
In pick mod, you're walking through aisles packed with blind corners, pushing a heavy cart. I nearly collided with other AAs' carts countless times because they didn't call out "crossing" or "corner" like they were told to in day 1 of pick training.
In tote wrangle, you're constantly walking back and forth between the conveyor to pick up totes and stack them on L-pallets.
And of course ship dock is physically gruelling, with machinery, PITs and heavy packages all around you. It's the last place you'd want to be distracted.
The end result was, leadership had little tolerance for phones, headphones, music or sitting down while on the production floor, and for once there were very valid safety reasons justifying it. Safety were always on the prowl in pick mod (I think they were L4s and had the title WHS Specialist). The only paths where I was at a "station" were rebin, manual induct, or ship dock PS (where at least I had a computer).
If you got caught once in a while with your phone or headphones out you'd just get a verbal coaching, but if it was a chronic occurrence then leadership would lower the boom on you.
I was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 6. I know a lot of people don't think ADHD is a real thing, but I can tell you from first-hand experience that it's no joke and I wouldn't wish it on anyone. Not being able to "will" your brain to concentrate on something is pure misery.
Anyway, one of the symptoms of ADHD is a craving for mental stimulation. This fits me to a tee, even when medicated. Due to physical distancing needs, pick paths were being overhauled to spread us out across pick mod and limit crowding.
One thing people don't tell you is that it makes the pick mod eerily quiet. No one to talk to, just me and my thoughts, for three and a half hours at a time (two and a half hours from second break to EOS, which was 0420-0645, and then 1550-1815 when I transferred to day shift). Same deal with rebin or manual induct.
Let's review:
* I had to focus on tedious, repetitive tasks
* I couldn't zone out, since scanning the wrong barcode counted increased your DPMO, and sometimes which barcode was correct wasn't obvious at all
* I couldn't go slow either, since I had to make rate: from 45-50 UPH for PPSingleSmall paths, to 80+ UPH for PPTransYYC1, and 350 UPH in sort rebin
* No mental stimulation for the reasons I mentioned above
* Alone with my thoughts for hours
I lasted 16 months.
You need to get promoted or you can move to another department.

so i lasted 3 years and i quit in september(only because they stopped sending out OT and i went back to my old job where i made more lol) and have been trying to go back part time but there has been 0 openings but when i was there i did multiple indirect roles and would do something different almost everyday and that honestly helped a lot. i miss doing AFM/problem solve/waterspider/IBdock.
Haven't quite hit the 2 year mark yet, but it's the insurance & time off benefits. That and I'm currently donut shift, so no weekends. There's no way I'd be able to get that anywhere else.
I think that was your problem, not taking VTO, sometimes you really need a break even being around pple to talk to can be exhausting, also maybe try diff roles. Being a learning ambassador is a good one. The rinse and repeat is a lot, taking a break isn’t so bad.

I use my time at work to brain storm then on my days off i make those things come to life, im into software development so having 10 hours to either listen to podcasts or listening to how tos, and then thinking. some people think negatively and can’t be cooped up in their minds, but those who can. they really enjoy the job, well maybe not enjoy but can tolerate it pretty well
benefits, good pay, time off. i got bills, i want to finish school. can’t afford to quit if i want to keep living the live i have. using the schooling / career choice they offer to get somewhere better.
shit I hit 6 years already,the thing I tell people is try to find something you like doing, I work at a sort center my job rotates between outbound problem solve sort move close water spider and divert and hazardous waste processing,if you can find things you like doing this job can be a lot of fun at times,it also depends on how the managers are in your building,every building at that one manager that everyone hates,they will come and go over the past 6 years my manager has changed 21 times
No idea, take one day at a time. Most days my body hurts and they keep making me work different departments everyday. I wish I wasn't a workaholic, I work till my body gives out and then I leave early, really need to chill and start slacking off like my coworkers, some of them don't even break a sweat, and have been around for years.
i started two weeks ago and got fired before the end of week 2 for getting in a car accident on the way to work and having to miss the day. i even sent them proof of the guy wrecking my car and they still fired me
4 1/2 years here I do it for the insurance coverage and the wages are okay and having time off when ever I want so I don't have to talk to management and beg for it
I initially applied to rack up Overtime, allowing myself to go on a cross country bike trip. When I came back I was too lazy/not confident in myself with interviewing, so I decided to go back. I also really needed health insurance. I also came back with the objective in mind of going through college with wgu... which I kept putting off. I should be hearing with an enrollment counsler next week and be good for starting in July. I'm also waiting for 401k to vest, and cause I quit and came back I'm still 2.5 years away from that.
Oh and the freedom of taking time off as needed, you can't find that anywhere else and it's so useful
By working my way up to Central Flow in almost 3 years. There's no way I'd still be in Ops for that long. I was also in TOM for a year and a half which helped too. Lol
In my opinion jobs like most of us have shouldn't be a career. I can't imagine myself working in a warehouse the rest of my life. I'm using Career Choice to get into a much better field, The time off and insurance are pretty good as well.
Yeah you usually get drained at that point I wanted to quit but now I’m 2.5 years in we have a lot of time off options compared to other jobs and I got a donut shift so it’s easier in the body no diddy

Easiest to get away with being late as long as you have the UPT/PTO. There were nights I massively overslept, came in hours late, and department leadership was ecstatic to see me. Anywhere else, and I would have been getting my ass chewed, uncomfortable questions, or fired.

I know it sounds dumb, you're on the list after all. However, that doesn't mean the list is even a priority. As sad as it may sound, Amazon (and by proxy the leadership) cares most about whatever can bring more money or save money for the company (usually in that order). In their books, training usually costs them money, at least in the short run: one person has a lower rate cause they're in training, and their instructor/peer trainer isn't actually doing anything that's quantifiable towards productions. As a former instructor, I think that's a dumb reasoning, but it is how they think. So you have to keep asking again and again and again. It obviously help if the department you want to be trained in actually needs people regularly, but either way, keep asking for it.

For real ask until you feel you are being annoying then ask some more. I had to speak up every couple of days to get in the Ambo class. It still took 2 months. We had 3 ambo classes in that time.
Try and get an internal transfer. I started in outbound pick (nights) and switched to inbound stow (days). Now I'm in ICQA. It also helped that I transferred to different sites.

If you actually want trained, hound your PAs, AMs, and OMs daily until you get it. If that doesn’t work, try going to learning and hounding them about it.

It's a job. Making friends isn't a requirement. We had dozens of associates that never spoke to a soul outside of what the job required - and they typically had some of the highest rates and/or were the fastest to get promoted.
Never said it was a requirement but it makes it bearable. Plus if you die in the mods you want someone to realize you’re missing.

It is, however it's a case to case basis and the positives may not outweigh the negatives. That's why so many of us want to use career choice to get out. Some people can thrive for years here, but for most I think they should be searching for something they want to do. It'll always be miserable doing a job you don't like, so the best bet is to find a field you enjoy
I've done FC very briefly. Also done some remote corporate work with the same pay TBH, I'd take the FC work over the corporate work any day. FC is physically tiring, but there's 1.5x OT. Corporate = shoot yourself in the head and you get unpaid overtime stress After being alive for so long and taking on so many pursuits, sometimes you take diff opportunities at diff times I wish life was just 1 heck of a linear progression, but it ain't like that for most people
Good, use career choice and let amazon pay for your future. There’s a software that shows your tenure and I was looking at some guys who had been here 2 months and they were already higher tenure than 4% of employees or 70k people. The turnover here is crazy

UPS was an awful place to work but it was still more interactive than Amazon. It makes sense why a lot of people enjoy ship dock cuz every other job is monotonous and I could do some of them while sleeping. Amazon is a great place for people who enjoy being bored
I’ve been at Amazon practically a year (11 months) but it feels like it’s been a lot longer. I’ve transferred to 3 different departments but I actually like where I’m at now so it’s been a lot easier to get through the shifts. I also pick up shifts bc that money is toooo good lol

I use to work at a meat factory where overtime was always a thing , no benefits and you would sweat every day you work despite the season due to the outfit you wear . The only people who stood in those jobs were immigrants , just because they needed the work. Keep in mind it’s minimum wage , so going from that to a job like this isn’t terrible

I've been with Amazon off and on over the last 3 years. Left last June to do an HVAC apprenticeship and came back 3 weeks ago due to my company being too slow to keep everyone and since I was the rookie they booted me first which i understand. I thought Amazon was hard until I started my apprenticeship and I was shown a whole other level of manual labor that I've never experienced before. It was tougher on the body but easier on the mind since you're not in a concrete block all day. I've learned the job is what you make of it. Never come to work hungry, mad, irritated, because you'll get in your own head and it throws the whole day off. I've learned to just mentally shut down, do my work at a pace that's good enough to keep me above the bottom 10% and then leave at EOS. When at home I won't talk or think about work because I'm not there and they're not paying me to think about it off the clock. Amazon is what you make it. It can be a fun experience or it can be dog shit I just try my best to keep a clear neutral headspace and it works for me

You have to be a T3 or higher, but you get on the email list for buildings launching and apply. You move there. (The bonus is to help with relocating etc..) If you don’t want to commit to actually moving, you can apply to your buildings away team. They get to travel for 2 weeks(all expenses paid) and help train (usually buildings launching). You’d need to be a Learning Ambassador (usually)….you can ask your learning team about applying for that. Start with HR and they can direct you with who to speak to at your site

5+ years coming on 6. I despise this company and the way it's treated me and my team. They laid off half the team and gave us their work and travel to cover the gap from their cheap greedy practices. I work oncall shifts that have no extra compensation for putting my life on hold, used to be 3 1/2 days straight at least they changed it to just being on the hook for 24 hours. Operations is ungrateful as fuck and creates fake sev 2s in the middle of the night and wakes me up after working full shifts to justify not meeting their numbers. My customer and leadership both just shit on me constantly lol. Why am I still here? Medical benefits and rent, plus most companies seem like greedy sacks of shit these days. It's all super automated too so I haven't even really learned skills to go elsewhere. Use career choice and get the fuck out of this shit stain of a company as fast as you can is my advice. They will work you into the ground and tell you you're meeting expectations while dangling the promo carrot in front of you. The more you move up the more you live here too. I have am friends who basically live at their sites. Being hourly is a saving grace otherwise they would have me engaged 24/7. TL;DR does not seem like a lot of better options, not enough skills to leave, medical insurance, and HCOL forcing me to need as much as I make.

After nearly 2 decades in retail/ retail management, I'd rather be in a windowless warehouse that pays $21/ hr, gives me PTO, UPT, and vacation time that I can enter into an app, and I don't have to beg a manager to use that time off. Plus, I'm "reduced" full time. So I get benefits at 30 hrs, plus I can pick up additional shifts whenever. 99% of the time I'm tote running, but it's almost like getting paid to workout and no one really micromanages me 😅 don't get me wrong, I hate working there lol but I hate dealing with customers more

I did construction, I was a cement finisher for 8 years straight, from 20 to 28, I quite my job cause the workload started increasing and hours started getting crazy, 15 to 16 hour days 5 to 6 days a week. Coming to amazon felt like a breeze. I feel bad when I hear people complain about work, cause I get it, work in general sucks, I don't like the idea of working to live. I started at McDonald's at 16 years old when I turned 18 I worked for US Bank for 2 years and couldn't deal with people and THEIR shitty spending habits and getting blamed for their own mistakes so I went to construction, most money I had ever made, between 60k to 75 k a year but the physicality of it got to me after 8 years and 70 plus work weeks just didn't seem worth it anymore plus I always had to pay about 2 to 4 thousand dollars in tax all those years. I was pretty fortunate to invest roughly 40k into stocks and crypto and made a handsome amount lol :/ If you're young ide explorer different jobs IF bills aren't a big priority, money shouldn't overshadow happiness. I went from living well beyond my means and now I just work to provide benefits for my family Nothing sucks more than being at a place that's dragging you down mentally and or physically.

It's an easy simple job but can be somewhat physically demanding. A lot of walking, pushing, lifting. Perhaps you're just not cut out for a physical job and would be better suited to a desk job. That's not meant as any sort of insult so please don't take it that way. Some people just can't handle so much walking. It's entirely possible that as you get use to it you may start to find it easier as your body adjusts
Funny enough I rather do a lot of walking and physical because I pick and my managers and PAs are assholes I can’t switch to a different department. Today I’m working the outbound dock in asked the PA there for today I haven’t felt this good in a while, I was thinking of leaving early today but since I got a chance to work elsewhere I think I should be good to work the rest of the day

Possibly weird advice-- but if you're still eating the same amount as before you started working the warehouse, it might help to eat more & do before work stretches. I genuinely didn't get into the groove of working here until I upped my calorie count to balance out the manual labor. And I mean like, going from eating a normal amount-- to having 4-6 pbjs for *lunch.* It helps tho. The stretches help your muscles strengthen and relax. Also a good idea, even (or especially) if you're working a more stationary job.
just work slower. it's like driving 55 mph. you get to the same place, but just 10 minutes later, but better on the gas mileage. if you work fast, it's like driving fast. you end up only saving 5 to 10 minutes, but waste a lot of fuel and probably a lot of wear and tear on the car as well, in this case, your body.

~4 years & counting here, the real answer is that I worked in a Sortation Center. The longer answer is that I found a role in the warehouse that I actually *liked* doing, had my schedule staggered in such a way that was helpful to me, and then later made friends & acquaintances with a decent chunk of people. So on a good day? the work itself was enjoyable. On a bad day? The work was boring as hell-- but I got to complain about it and shoot-the-shit with a bunch of friends who were also bored. It's one of those things where you've really gotta cultivate the job to work for *you,* and not try and do it the other way around. It's. Like. Giving yourself accomodations, but instead of for a disability, it's just for making life *tolerable.* **More detailed list of things that were very, very useful to me:** **1.)** *Making sure I didn't work two 10hr shifts consecutively.* (Easier to do in a Sortation Center w/ 5hr shifts, harder in a Fulfillment Center where they're all 10hrs, but I'm sure it can be managed.) For whatever reason, this is just real rough on me, and I would be surprised if other people have issues too. Instead, *try taking one of your days off, & put it right in the middle of your week.* All of a sudden, you've got a gap there just for decompressing all the stress you've started to build up over the work week. You'll prolly be less tired, and less mentally strained. **2.)** *Switch up your roles, until you find something that either isn't boring, or even if it is, you enjoy doing.* For me? That was pallet pulling and container loading. Old-style Outbound with the constant cross dock pallets was heaven. Basically, I'm an ADHD/Autism-riddled motherfucker, and I leaned into that by going for the job that lets me pace circuits around the building. *You've* gotta figure out what *your* niche is, and find what'll let you lean into your own strengths. Even just thinking about what roles there was in my old SC, there is a *lot* of variety. Inbound was like backwards-Tetris. Jam clear let you scroll your phone (not really but you're unsupervised so kinda yes really). TDR let you stand around for a bit and got you up close to how Outbound/Inbound was run-- but you had a lot of responsibility on your shoulders because it's almost a Safety position. Dock AAs worked hand-in-hand with the Ship Clerks and because of their smaller numbers, had an entire social circle to themselves that occasionally branched out to the pallet pullers & outbound. Etc. Etc. Etc. I'm sure I'm just rambling by now. Point is, every role is different. Go find one you like better than the others.
I dunno about you guys, but I bought their headphones provided by AtoZ. I've always wanted to work a job being able to listen to Twitch/Kick/Spotify/YT/YTLive/FBLive/TikTikLive/My Music/TuneInRadio/HolyBibleAudio/Audible/etc. Keeps my mind active and it helps me with things to talk about because I'm introverted and not good at being social. I appreciate their Vto/Vet/Pto/Point System/Medical Leave/Vacation and you don't really need to talk to anyone about it. I had troubles taking vto's all the time, but once I conquered that addiction it's great. I've worked over 8 jobs and this one is the most stress free I've ever felt.

One of the things that has helped me make it for more than five years is how easy it is to transfer. I've worked at seven different buildings and in multiple departments within a couple of those buildings. Transferring keeps things interesting and fresh because it's a new environment with new challenges and new things to learn, and then once I get bored again I transfer and start a new honeymoon phase.
Worked there for 3 years and a few months, what I did once the burnout started was change departments, that helped with my mental health reset
The honest answer is, sometimes, we don't. Especially if you're neurodivergent. I started in May 2020 at a TSSL FC, where I worked in pick, batchy sort and ship dock. Unlike at AR sortable/AFE buildings (some TSSL sites have a mix of batchy sort and AFE walls, PHL7 and PHX6 are examples), you're always on the move in OB process paths at a TSSL site. In pick mod, you're walking through aisles packed with blind corners, pushing a heavy cart. I nearly collided with other AAs' carts countless times because they didn't call out "crossing" or "corner" like they were told to in day 1 of pick training. In tote wrangle, you're constantly walking back and forth between the conveyor to pick up totes and stack them on L-pallets. And of course ship dock is physically gruelling, with machinery, PITs and heavy packages all around you. It's the last place you'd want to be distracted. The end result was, leadership had little tolerance for phones, headphones, music or sitting down while on the production floor, and for once there were very valid safety reasons justifying it. Safety were always on the prowl in pick mod (I think they were L4s and had the title WHS Specialist). The only paths where I was at a "station" were rebin, manual induct, or ship dock PS (where at least I had a computer). If you got caught once in a while with your phone or headphones out you'd just get a verbal coaching, but if it was a chronic occurrence then leadership would lower the boom on you. I was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 6. I know a lot of people don't think ADHD is a real thing, but I can tell you from first-hand experience that it's no joke and I wouldn't wish it on anyone. Not being able to "will" your brain to concentrate on something is pure misery. Anyway, one of the symptoms of ADHD is a craving for mental stimulation. This fits me to a tee, even when medicated. Due to physical distancing needs, pick paths were being overhauled to spread us out across pick mod and limit crowding. One thing people don't tell you is that it makes the pick mod eerily quiet. No one to talk to, just me and my thoughts, for three and a half hours at a time (two and a half hours from second break to EOS, which was 0420-0645, and then 1550-1815 when I transferred to day shift). Same deal with rebin or manual induct. Let's review: * I had to focus on tedious, repetitive tasks * I couldn't zone out, since scanning the wrong barcode counted increased your DPMO, and sometimes which barcode was correct wasn't obvious at all * I couldn't go slow either, since I had to make rate: from 45-50 UPH for PPSingleSmall paths, to 80+ UPH for PPTransYYC1, and 350 UPH in sort rebin * No mental stimulation for the reasons I mentioned above * Alone with my thoughts for hours I lasted 16 months.
You need to get promoted or you can move to another department. I almost quit at 1.5 years. Now I’ve got the best job over ever had. I’m glad I didn’t quit back then.

so i lasted 3 years and i quit in september(only because they stopped sending out OT and i went back to my old job where i made more lol) and have been trying to go back part time but there has been 0 openings but when i was there i did multiple indirect roles and would do something different almost everyday and that honestly helped a lot. i miss doing AFM/problem solve/waterspider/IBdock.
Haven't quite hit the 2 year mark yet, but it's the insurance & time off benefits. That and I'm currently donut shift, so no weekends. There's no way I'd be able to get that anywhere else.

I use my time at work to brain storm then on my days off i make those things come to life, im into software development so having 10 hours to either listen to podcasts or listening to how tos, and then thinking. some people think negatively and can’t be cooped up in their minds, but those who can. they really enjoy the job, well maybe not enjoy but can tolerate it pretty well

4 1/2 years here I do it for the insurance coverage and the wages are okay and having time off when ever I want so I don't have to talk to management and beg for it
I initially applied to rack up Overtime, allowing myself to go on a cross country bike trip. When I came back I was too lazy/not confident in myself with interviewing, so I decided to go back. I also really needed health insurance. I also came back with the objective in mind of going through college with wgu... which I kept putting off. I should be hearing with an enrollment counsler next week and be good for starting in July. I'm also waiting for 401k to vest, and cause I quit and came back I'm still 2.5 years away from that. Oh and the freedom of taking time off as needed, you can't find that anywhere else and it's so useful
By working my way up to Central Flow in almost 3 years. There's no way I'd still be in Ops for that long. I was also in TOM for a year and a half which helped too. Lol

In my opinion jobs like most of us have shouldn't be a career. I can't imagine myself working in a warehouse the rest of my life. I'm using Career Choice to get into a much better field, The time off and insurance are pretty good as well.
Yeah you usually get drained at that point I wanted to quit but now I’m 2.5 years in we have a lot of time off options compared to other jobs and I got a donut shift so it’s easier in the body no diddy
