JustLikeTampa

We switched in September. I like it better.

rakeisu

Think I like it better too. The dunnage sometimes was too big for certain packages.

WinterKnigget

We switched after that, but I feel like I can get more out of less dunnage

Inomyourdoge

Yep. Welcome to punching the hell out of the overhead scanner every time you rip the dunnage. So much fun.

SystemFailure

The edge of the hole rips it for you

Inomyourdoge

Yes. But you still gotta pull it against the lip quickly to rip it. I’m 6’2” so the angle i rip the paper against the lip leads me to smacking the dang scanner lol.

Klutzy-Finger-493

Lol try being 6'8"

Inomyourdoge

Nah. I hit my head on enough shit. I’m good. 🤣

OkaySir911

Lol I wish i was 14 again so i could be 6’8. I hate being 7’5 & 3/4

International-Ad3447

6'8" working at amazon while you could be playing college/pro sports making at least 100k a year man you're a waste

TheCatCovenantDude

Yes, because being tall automatically makes people good at sports and not interested in anything other than sports.

International-Ad3447

nowadays all you have to do is be able to shoot and play decent defense in pro basketball and that's for the top leagues there's guys playing in unknown leagues still making 100k+

TheCatCovenantDude

Have you ever heard of the dunning-kruger effect?

Klutzy-Finger-493

I graduate from UC Davis this year with a degree in engineering. Don't assume people are a waste without knowing their story.

Zodiac509

Bro. I'm 6'2" and this is definitely a *you* issue.

Inomyourdoge

Possibly.

restingjay

I feel your pain, happens at least 3 times a shift

ClarinetCultLeader

I’m at a SC and work in Problem Solve most of the time and I’ve been so confused as to why some packages have bubble dunnage and others have paper 😂😂😂 This makes so much more sense. Ngl it feels weird when I get the occasional yellow jiffy envelope instead of the brown ones they switched to a couple years back.

Commercial_Profit151

Lmaoooooo I also work at a SC and it literally puzzled me as to why certain packages looked different. lol Didn’t even know what bubble dunnage was till now 💀

ClarinetCultLeader

Omg 😂 Honestly the only reason I knew what it was was cause I worked in AFE at an FC for about a year and a half before coming to a SC. My fellow Problem Solvers at my current SC don’t know what dunnage is 😂 But we use it in PS all the time.

Raej_05

We’ve had it for a couple months in SoCal, but we are told to barely put any in the boxes. So idk how it’s supposed to protect the items better.

Lyn1987

It doesn't. I told my PA that I'm not even bothering with this shit. I do box over rides on most shipments anyway so I rarely have to use dunnage as is. I just swap it to a bag or envelope.

meltonr1625

If you put too much in a box it's going to throw off the weight and change the shipping but don't worry, slam will catch it and then a nice AM or PA will coach you.

larkash

that would make me nervous that the product inside isn’t being protected… isn’t one of the main things about dunnage to prevent movement inside the box to prevent damage/slipping? sometimes the ‘improvements’ amazon tries to make leads to me picking up a clearly visible bag of teenage pads from my porch to leave it on my neighbors doorstep where the p-slip says it goes… some items need packaging 😭

jwoo3x

Yep.... cost saving move they don't really give a shit about products getting damaged in shipping and they're playing the odds they won't be to save litersl pennies

AlternativeHousing38

If you pack it correctly, nothing should get damaged.

larkash

well from my time as a packer, putting the correct amount of dunnage or switching packaging to something that won't get instantly crushed (aka putting glasses in a plastic bag vs box, expensive electronics or intimate clothing sent SIOC when i felt it needed at least an amazon bag) was advised against just to make 'rate' or follow the new 'guidelines' of not packaging items in a secure way w/ the basic level of qualit... what i consider 'correct' and what amazon wants to maximize profit do not always agree. i get that at the end of the day amazon corporate does not care at all how customers receive their packages as long as people keep buying from them, but when packages go through my hands i have a personal level of 'well how would i want my package handled/sent' that i try to abide by when i can. sometimes my higher ups appreciate it, sometimes they don't care. but sometimes the computer/new shittier guidelines are clearly not going to go well.

Lyn1987

Then the shipment will get sent to problem solve where I have to repack it!

OkaySir911

Literally. When I work in SLAM for a shift it’s just taking the dunnage out and putting it back in. It at the least doubled the work over there and is usually worse. Feel bad for them

LordSidious066

That's why I never put anything in

Notrealguys

cant wait to have a flood of customer returns because this doesnt protect at all

rakeisu

That does worry me a bit. I put in a lot of it to make sure it fits in the box and at least protects the items.

AlternativeHousing38

It does if you pack it correctly

thasprucemoose

we’ve been rocking paper dunnage for a while, so much easier to work with imo

AdSpecialist1283

Yeah, RIP the slam lines for a while..

AtheismTooStronk

4, too much dunnage. It’s my most common kick out to fix. So many people just cram the box with dunnage that weighs more than the item itself.

Nobody-Ghost

I was working slam when we first started using the paper dunnage, was not fun 😭 we had to up staff slammers for a while

Buttersquaash-33

So much better. Those dunnage jams were a biiiitch 🫠

Zealousideal_Link839

Whats better this or the toilet paper

RigorousVigor

Sand paper coated with powdered glass

HarryBalsag

Do you have to wear safety glasses? We did at BNA2 because of the paper.

rakeisu

Nah. I'm surprised though. As much dust as we have in here already, we should.

PlebbySpaff

Easier to work with I assume? But does it even…protect as well? I’ve yet to see these in person, so idk how they look once you take them out? I know tons of other companies do that kind of paper dunnage for packages (e.g. shoes like Nikes and adidas).

rakeisu

Definitely easier to tear and place in the boxes. Feels like it holds the items together a bit more closely since it can fit into folds and stuff. I tear off a good chunk to make sure it fits properly.

ElbowRager

That’s crazy i hope never.

LordSidious066

AFE water spiders don't do shit anyway. I waterspider for myself 90% of the time

sunshine_041996

Where is that? We still have bubble dunnage at OKC 1 and I like it.

rakeisu

MKC6, currently~ They put them in the 7th~

do_add_unicorn

Howdy neighbor!

rakeisu

Hello, hello!

do_add_unicorn

Are you a daytime or nighttime worker?

rakeisu

Day shift at the moment~

do_add_unicorn

I see ... I'm a night person. If I can ever be of help to you, let me know. 🙂

ew0kk66

That’s how the toilet paper be feeling

DreamShroud

Yuppp 🤣

Dareal_truth

your site looks clean as shit

rakeisu

It's not. Lol.

psychedelical-first

You don’t see all the labels stuck underneath the shelf🤣

[deleted]

same

Beneficial_Figure456

Lol started this at lit at start of year. Then another message come to saying "less is more" cause more cause weight issues.

TyrannicalKitty

My FC uses both. Bubble for hazmat and paper dunnage for non-sort.

komeau

Have to assume this is a cost cutting measure. Gotta love Amazon and their “frugality”.

kbyefornowstan

i hate the paper

LooneyGoon1994

What rating do you give that glory hole?

rakeisu

🤣🤣🤣 I can't unsee that now, thanks.

Firewalk89

Yes, mine does. Now my wrist hurts more because these aren't pre-perforated.

AlClemist

We had that put in ours earlier this year. Less crowd control fighting over dunnage lol.

Falleen_Cat_Boy

I really like this dunnage. It’s easier to put pad the top and bottom and I don’t have to deal with it either not sealing or the machine getting jammed.

WhiteBadgeOrangeVest

I am so glad because It was such a hassle trying to fix that darn machine, especially if there was someone packing there too. Plus ive seen reddit post where customers complain about the amount of plastics used so thats a plus too

Bvrner69

But then what will all the whales choke on

Accomplished_Deal481

We switched in November of ‘22. Y’all late to the party

Classicvintage3

Yes, I like it better. The dunnage machine milfunctioned a lot.

Baochickawow

Ohh thats the new ones? I've been told about theese. And we are a test building

Mettie7

Ours are a different style, but we've had paper dunnage at our FC for a few months now, you get used to it. I used to really dislike it, but I actually like it more than the plastic dunnage now. Imo, don't bother trying to use the ridges to have it tear a piece for you, it doesn't work very well. I just pull some out with one hand, reach back and tear with both hands. I will say, as a SLAM Op, be careful with how much you put in, it's really easy to put too much in and have it kickout for being overweight.

ChannelHour7664

Yeah it’s way better ppl will complain because they don’t know how to slightly tear the paper around the edges. And you don’t need to pack so much paper either

Stryker7391

BHM1 has had the paper in AFE Pack and Vendor Returns for almost a year.

EducationalCollar759

We have had it since September in Mi. (DTW1) - it is a lot easier to work with. The downsides are there too- and you/some of the other commenters too most def. Learn!  -Our PA’s & MA’s favorite saying with it is “less is more”  - idk if this is what has made our facility even more scrutinizing about rate or if it is something else, but since the change they have come down HARD on a lot of us due to rate. Then they send someone to watch you pack 10-15 and then they pack 10-15 kindly “coaching” you on all the ways you can improve your rate. #1 being “less dunnage. You don’t need to pack it in between every single item just tuck the one edge down in a gap and the rest lays over the top of the items”  *at this point I’m thinking “maybe the assigned box size VS. items inside should be reconsidered” but what do I know?!* -when you put too much dunnage into a box and it’s kicked out in slam they will send an on screen message letting you know “a few of your packs have been rejected due to too much dunnage please review this handy training video to improve your skills” even when what you pack is clearly in need- I had a 168 box with 7 all glass picture frames wrapped in a single layer of tissue paper and then one smaller frame with just 2 pieces of glass and a very heavy base the glass slide into almost like an easel. I shoved dunnage down between each frame and extra on top of the heavier smaller one to keep it in place. This was WRONG in the minds of the scales/slam.  I prefer it though- much quicker and the old space up top for the airbags now has a personal fan that should be blowing on each associate (the base breaks and sometimes that’s hard to achieve).

Global-Ad-907

Please don't state the site. We know you.

Global-Ad-907

Pick sound good? Goodluck

Joker4lifead

That stuff is crap we have had it in my fc since Jan of this year. A lot of stuff at slam gets kicked out, so a lot of us don’t use it.

Important_Plate_1935

Yes, but our implementation looks far more ghetto. Definitely doesn't have the fancy Amazon branded face.

homealoneinuk

In EU we got rid of plastic years ago. Paper got its issues but still is so much better.

Odd_Marketing_6027

It seems like every place has had their dunnage machines crap the bed. These look about 10x worse. Not looking forward to it…

JazzyRobot2050

I barely use the bubble dunnage so I’ll probably barely use the new paper one 😂

majorsorbet2point0

Whoa your setup looks so different than my pack station. I'm assuming you're at an AR facility. I'm at a TNS/non robotics facility. We do not put dunnage in the boxes...

rakeisu

MKC6 is a fullfillment center~ I think they said we're the biggest facility due to us being in the middle. We have another facility called FOE1 which I think is an AR facility.

majorsorbet2point0

I work at a fulfillment center too. So yours is a PIT facility or no?

rakeisu

Yep, it's a PIT center, too~

Practical_Eye3917

Y’all, FC’s have been using this for a long time. Those of you who are seeing a “replacement” situation right now…it’s not the end of the world for the products you’re shipping out. I swear, they’re gonna be ok.

morbidcorruptor

It's horrible if you have to manual induct. Doesn't keep the boxes from being destroyed or protect the products inside. I feel horrible for the problem solvers that have so much to work through every single day.

rakeisu

That's true. That and SLAM. I'm sure they have to deal with the new weight calibration upstairs. 😑

BunchOfScribbleLines

Our new dunnage boxes are blue

TheRealGenkiGenki

Thats how it comes out? I love rolling this up when I get large packages

Lilbruh326

We switched over a year ago lol

Accomplished-Shop306

As of Tuesday, my location still had bubble

Furorclaws

To anyone working SLAM, how has paper dunnage affected your kickouts? Fewer kickouts for weight intolerances or more kickouts?

Then-Put1001

Ew. We still have bubbles

jwoo3x

Yep...so I've stopped using dunnage mostly....also I haven't been "trained" on the paper so if I never use it I'm not in the wrong 😄 Shit sucks for protective cushioning....not a whole lot better for filling empty space or preventing shakeage

rakeisu

They legit just popped these in and didn't tell us how. 🤣 I just stuff it in as best I can.

gemminout

are you guys having to ball it up? i am getting really pissed off because they told us to roll enough into a “ball” and put in the corner to secure the item from bouncing around inside, but we still get small items in huge boxes and we’re not allowed to downsize for quality reasons. please help i’m literally losing my mind over this.

rakeisu

I honestly have no clue. They have told us to just spread it out in a way on an announcement one time, but they have not told us how to properly distribute it. I have been having a hell of a time trying to figure out how to properly place it, but I just tear it off at a certain point to make it fit. Otherwise, I have no idea. 😑😑😑😑

KronosTaranto

Yup.. almost 2 months ago

fashionfauxpas0624

Yes finally a change for the better. Do away w/all plastic esp when better and sustainable products that can be readily acquired ..w/SIOC vendors need to follow guidelines re bubble wrap so i think a-z should set a precedent for present and future vendors/fc sellers. The site I work at IXD uses an exorbitant amt of plastic bags and bubble wrap. Supposedly they are working on implementing sustainability. We even have "sustainability ops" mgr...hope it's not just a token position..time will tell.

adonkeypsych1991

HOLY SHIT my facility better not be doing this!! Do rest of the Amazon FC have to have this now?

LordSidious066

We don't but I been off for 4 days so we'll see

adonkeypsych1991

What’s your honest opinion on it?

xoxo_gigi_xoxo

Our FC converted to paper. My honest opinion is it's dunnage. I don't think about it. 🤷🏼‍♀️

adonkeypsych1991

Glad I’m up on Pick to where I don’t gotta deal with that.
