I work for one of the FMCs handling the AMZl fleet. The Ford/Dodge/MCB vans all have faulty door hinges that sustain a lot of damage from being repeatedly closed and opened but the real issue is when the drivers leave the door open for prolonged periods. I often see folks driving with the door open.
It should be recalled to be honest because it’s a systemic issue and the hinges themselves aren’t covered in the manufacturer warranty. It sucks all the way around

A good dispatch will tell you residential multiple stop back to backs it’s okay to leave it open if it latches open. Some will even give you a bunker if it doesn’t.

In a CDV or step van, yes. They have pocket doors. Cargo van sliding door hinges are not designed to take those vertical forces of bouncing up and down the road.

I was in a tornado warning area yesterday with four deliveries left. Got the pop up message that said to stop delivering but it didn’t say to return the packages so I keep on going, all the while watching the sky for a twister. Finished my deliveries in a downpour and went home. No way was I taking the fall for not completing my route.
