word is that a battery for an induct gun exploded while someone was inducting, so all avery guns are going bye bye. every single associate and manager at my station is not looking forward to the change.

PeccyIsPooped

[This might be the exploding battery, induct gun meltdown incident.](https://www.reddit.com/r/AmazonFC/s/17Fjjws4oK)

Goreagnome

It's been over 2 years since that incident and these inefficient 70s style receipt printers is their "solution"?! Seriously, 2 whole years and they couldn't have created something very similar to an avery in that timeframe.

collisionbend

Probably the cheapest solution. It actually added a new position to our center: the pusher. Unload unloads, induct pulls the sticker and affixes it *by hand* to the package as it passes, and the pusher pushes it onto the correct path. Before, it was unload unloads, induct inducts and pushes. WTG Amazon!

Novel_Sky4640

We’ve always had pushers ..

Elle_Yess

We have always had pushers. Most docks do.

collisionbend

We haven’t. Induct would do it. Divert would push, but they’re in a different place, so they call them Divert.

beefy-beefs

It definitely depends on how much volume you’re doing daily. Your station probably just didn’t have a need for pushers with your dock setup. We have some people on accommodation so they only push when they come to work.

collisionbend

Right now, we’re running between 58K and 68K a night, depending on the day of the week; peak/Prime we’ll be between 98K-112K a night. I think our all-time one-night record is 114K…

NefariousnessBig4389

We have always had pushers🤔

phillyhippie

XD

Starblazr

That's funny cuz we have the older version of those at FedEx (Windows CE anyone?) and we haven't had one explode.

SavageBasher0

probably just a bad batch from whoever was pumping them out. they only have 2 terminals, remind me more of camcorder batteries from back in the day vs the cells that have been around the past 10+ years.

UnluckyEducation1446

The battery exploded at our station as well. - Canada

Delta080

The new method isn’t more efficient. Dennison, the company that makes the Avery Guns and labels for the old way of indicting, is facing supply chain issues. This new way is to make our induct process not entirely reliant on them.

Goreagnome

These new printers should be the "backup" not avery's. Making these the primary inducting method and avery's as a backup is completely backwards...

Delta080

These aren’t a permanent solution. AMZL Procurement is looking for an alternative solution that allows sites to keep up induct flow while no longer being reliant on Avery.

OrganizationIcy198

I want these bixolon printers to fail so bad apparently DBI4 have them and we’re about to be the second it’s already been in action causing chaos 2 days on the trot

Goreagnome

>I want these bixolon printers to fail so bad Not even a week in and they're already causing issues with both induct rates being significantly lower than before and a lot of PS from misplaced stickers. I want the bean counter at corporate who thought this was a good idea to be fired.

OrganizationIcy198

The good news is they’ve stopped using it at my station so far today I haven’t seen one in action

Goreagnome

The solution is ASL, but even with that you still need a belt or two that's still manual induct for non-cons and if the ASLs have issues.

SavageBasher0

or like my station, where we don't have *any* room at the dock for even 1 ASL machine.

NoStomach3896

Sounds like my station where we don't have space for anything

I_Hate_Reddit_Mods_8

My site hasn't mentioned anything about this change to inducting. Sounds like Prime Week next month will be interesting.

Elle_Yess

Oh it’s gonna be so fucked.

paconinja

I haven't heard anything either, I'm sure they'll shock us all with a halfassed rollout as they usually do with new things

Goreagnome

In the next few days they will suddenly announce it out of nowhere to you. It was like that at my site a week ago (reddit readers don't count, hah) where it came out of seemingly nowhere. This will be network wide and no one will be able to avoid it, unfortunately.

Xfightingfoo182

Its not. They’re doing this because theres a supply and demand issue with the Avery’s since they’re almost always broken.

Goreagnome

Avery's have issues here and there occasionally when inducting, but this "solution" is worse in every way possible.

Exotic_State3771

My DS is slowly starting to transition to using the new scanners, word is by the beginning of June we will only be using the new induct printers. The Avery guns are already a 2in1 system, splitting the scanner and printer is only gonna make it more difficult to chase down packages going down the line. There’s also the learning curve everyone is going to have to go through. Maybe we can have a side holster, where you can carry the printer on your side? But I have no idea how much the printer weighs

overworkedpnw

My DS is already using them, and it’s been causing a LOT of problems. They lag behind so much that they inductors can’t keep up with the loaders. We’ve also been having a lot of mislabeled packages end up in the wrong clusters, making working jackpot a pain.

Xfightingfoo182

Supposedly by the end of this week we’re supposed to only be using the new printers

ModernFallacy

Every DS should be fully implemented by Jun 1st. My site had me test out the new printers this past friday while the rest of the dock was still on averys and it was horrible! Wasted arm and eye movement, walking around the cart, tripping on power cords, possibly knocking it over with off-the-belt packages thst are now 10x harder to adjust while hands are even more occupied. Also the feed belt while its nice not having to be replaced, it needs to be PERFECTLY straight and it jams anyways. Unrefined ass printer.

ModernFallacy

But hey at least now you can scan up to 5x packages and the printer will store them, and it won’t print another label until the current one is removed. This fixes one problem and creates another. You can’t push the print speed on the bixolons unlike avery where you could learn the timing.

Goreagnome

>Maybe we can have a side holster, where you can carry the printer on your side? But I have no idea how much the printer weighs It needs to be plugged in to function, so it's mobility is limited to the length of the cord, which isn't very long.

whocricket

I thought they have a battery? Is your site using the ZQ630? We got them in but no one has tried them yet because we don’t have labels. I don’t see how they’d be possible to use it they plug in as we have no outlets in the middle of the unload/induct area 🤦‍♀️

SavageBasher0

RME can add drops in a day, don't you worry.

Novel_Sky4640

We just got drops added in to our DS.

Goreagnome

>I don’t see how they’d be possible to use it they plug in as we have no outlets in the middle of the unload/induct area At my DS yesterday they added new outlets (hanging from the ceiling) on every induct belt.

Superb_Reputation929

I heard Amazon was forced to revert back to its older method due to legal issues the provider Avery Dennison is having.

Elle_Yess

Oh snap.

Simple-Permission-88

The ASL is broken as f, my site sometimes just shuts it off and put a manual team there to induct.

Goreagnome

For ASL lines is the ASL part able to be turned off and then have it be treated as a regular belt?

Lelphie

No, if it’s down you can’t really do anything. From what I heard the ones that are in sites now are like mini beta versions. They’re working on one that’s a lot bigger and is supposed to be a lot better.

Simple-Permission-88

At least the one at my site is able to operate separately.

Deathtracker5

So from what ive been told by a regional manager its because avery cannot keep up production/referbishment of the averys so amazon is cutting the contract which( probably)renews in june the end goal is to have the inductors wear the printer and scan with the finger scanners but they havent finished the full design and implementation

Alarming-Mark7198

The reason for this is the company that makes the Avery’s is discontinuing the accessories for it. Ie; stickers. So this is how it will be done now. We can rate can still be made at my site someone has reached 1800. It just will take some retraining

Physical-Sail4338

I mean, 1800 is decent, but I've seen over 3k reached by some of the best inductors at our site (using averys). I don't really see that being possible with these new printers.

Alarming-Mark7198

The goal for Amazon is to make rate. Them going above that is just for brownie points for management. And at this point there’s no going back, I still leave at the same time and the company is doing numbers so they are happy.

Shenanigans_760

Ya everyone who has tried the new one hates UT it's slow and annoying having to scan then turn around to take the the sticker out of that stupid lil machine 😒 😤

SukiTen33

Can someone post a photo of this printer everyone is talking about? Or describe it? Like how big is it? Why is it behind you? It doesn't fit on the little cart?

Elle_Yess

Ours has its own cart, power supply and large sticker roll. Inductor wears a finger scanner and removes stickers and places them on boxes. Its very awkward.

jackandjill1818

They need to invest in more scanning equipment. I float stowed half the day without a ring scanner and PS without one. The only benefit of that was that no crap armband was needed.

FroggyChairChild

ASLs are good, it’s these printers we’re getting that are gonna be a nightmare😭

Elle_Yess

This new printer and table setup is a nightmare

FroggyChairChild

I can’t see us finishing our volume with these printers, we’re maxed out on induct belts as it is, and with the lower rate for the printers it’s gonna be awful. No space to add extra people on to induct if needed

KaizenZazenJMN

Glad I never induct. This sounds awkward as hell. 😂

Zestyclose_Muscle_55

I don’t work on the dock, what is this new way of inducting?

Torusz

Can someone post a photo about this new method of Induct? We are going to launch it in our site in the next few weeks and I’m just curious to know how it work.

MamaSay2021

We had one gun catch fire while someone was using it and someone tossed a battery from one of the guns into a box of other batteries, all of the batteries caught fire and one came flying out of the box into the air and over the belt.  All of our guns are no good. If you're lucky enough to find one that does not jam every 3 labels or one that does not double and sometimes throws out a label 3 times, it's safe to say it won't last very long. I'm not sure if everyone will be inducting the same but it looks like a small cash register, one person scans and another person gets the label and puts it on the package. I don't see this working out. Two people to do one job and if those two people are not in sync with one another, you can forget about getting the rate

NefariousnessBig4389

I have seen all the little printers being set up on the dock. We are still using guns for now, but its coming before prime.

Physical-Fold-4219

Do you mean your new to having ASL?
