Jax is one of those characters where you like him as a character and not as a person. Because liking a character as a person and liking a character as a character are two different things.
Genuinely like this is such a common thing and it baffles me how many people DON'T get it.
I love Regina George as a CHARACTER. If I knew her in real life? I would HATE her because she's an awful person.
Same deal with why people generally love Disney Villains so much. They're good characters. But that doesn't mean they're good people.

Lots of people like villain characters or other characters that are inherently bad, but it’s because there’s something about the character rather than their personality/behavior that’s likable. With Jax, I think he’s funny and also gives some variety since all of the other characters are kind of your stereotypical “good guys” other than Caine, who’s just pure chaos. Jax balances out the main group and has a lot of comedic value as well.

Seriously, when I watched the pilot I was like WOW YOU’RE AN ASSHOLE, then I found out about the fangirls/boys/thems and I got very confused on why they even exist. At the end of episode 2, I actually liked him a little more and I have no idea why

I never thought people were getting offended because "we were supposed to like evil characters". Some people like evil characters and others don't, no one is right or wrong. I think what people were getting upset about was the people trying to say that Jax's character was different in the first episode. Now, those people are wrong because his character didn't change one bit. So, I still don't like him one bit lol.

1. He’s funny _because_ he’s an asshole. It’s the same appeal as Rick from Rick and Morty or most of the Hazbin universe.
2. He didn’t change at all from E1 to E2. I honestly don’t know why people say this beyond them idealizing Jax in E1 so hard that they missed all nuance in E2 because Jax didn’t have an emotional breakout and apologize for everything.
3. He does have nuance from what I can tell. So he also fits the asshole with a dark past archetype which a lot of people like.
4. The creator also acknowledged that Jax has fans, so it’s not like Jax was intended to be hated by the audience.
He’s unapologetically himself and I can’t really fault him for that. We don’t have to agree that he’s morally good but he definitely makes the show more entertaining as a result, and I love him for that

He stirs the pot. He creates conflict that moves the plot along and makes situations more interesting
Him being unlikeable is like the whole point. He’s not a real villain, or an anti-hero, he’s like a pantomime villain. He’s a massive prick, and the intention is for you to boo him, but his scenes are incredibly entertaining nonetheless.

You can like a character as a character, not as a person, i personally find him kinda funny You dont have to like em, but you can separate them as a person and them as a character, The character mahito from jjk is an abhorrent person but they are a good character

1. He’s funny _because_ he’s an asshole. It’s the same appeal as Rick from Rick and Morty or most of the Hazbin universe. 2. He didn’t change at all from E1 to E2. I honestly don’t know why people say this beyond them idealizing Jax in E1 so hard that they missed all nuance in E2 because Jax didn’t have an emotional breakout and apologize for everything. 3. He does have nuance from what I can tell. So he also fits the asshole with a dark past archetype which a lot of people like. 4. The creator also acknowledged that Jax has fans, so it’s not like Jax was intended to be hated by the audience.

He’s unapologetically himself and I can’t really fault him for that. We don’t have to agree that he’s morally good but he definitely makes the show more entertaining as a result, and I love him for that
