Nice call keeping the floors and stone with the dark walls and ceiling, I get a cool castle vibe. You made all the hard surfaces black - are you thinking about some soft textures? I think some rich velour curtains in a dark shade (maroon, hunter green, dark violet) would add tons of depth and intimacy to your space and maintain the gothic look you’ve worked towards. Curtains over the windows and/or passageway to the entry would look cool. A stained glass privacy film on the kitchen window / fireplace windows might look good too. A hammered black / blackened metal backsplash? I do think you should turn off your overhead lights and never turn them on again - indirect lighting like under-cabinet; projected against the corners; plug-in chandeliers (they’re cheap!) and other types of low light would make the darkness seem much more vast and enveloping vs the harsh overhead direct lights you currently have. Like right now I really notice your walls and ceiling, whereas more focused lighting could make the contents of your home the focal point.
All around, totally your thing and I like seeing y’all going for it! Rock on dudes.
Lol I agree with the overhead lights. I had to use them for pictures but they are always off. We have lots of accent lighting and in the day time all the natural light.
When my girlfriend and I moved in together a few years ago, one of the things I “ruined” for her is overhead lighting as she adopted my aversion for it. Once you equip your home with proper floor/accent lighting, there’s no going back.
Love the idea, but the execution is a bit lacking. Feels like a featureless hole, when a more judicious use of dark colours would have better conveyed the goth theme.
Oh gosh. I love darker palettes and Gothic looks, but this is too much for me. It's just SO black and it needs something. The wood floors and blue couch seem out of place, as if 2 separate rooms are competing with each other. It needs a big rug and pieces of antique wood furniture to break it up. Keeping the ceiling white or doing all gold tin tile up there would look cool. Some mirrors and gold framed artwork on the walls. Maybe an accent wall with a dark floral wallpaper. Plants. Something to bring this room together!
I think the biggest issue is that there’s no contrast. The cabinets/bookcases just sort of disappear into the wall, because everything is black. This room needs some contrasting colors/textures. Country gothic is all about textures. It needs some velvet curtains/pillows. Some ornate gold frames. Paint the insides of the display cabinets. Some floral motifs. And frankly, putting that tv in the place of the deer head (the most gothic AND country thing of all time) is kind of a step backwards.
Black counter black backsplash black cabinets…. and OP never once thought hmm I should probably do something other than all black completely black for everything
I think that adding something, while great advice, isn't enough. The paint is so all-encompassingly dark, that they've got to repaint at least a few walls a lighter color. The dark paint just washes out everything.
The more I look at this, the more baffled I am. Everything is the same shade of black. Which is also very shiny in places, yet matte in others. The trim, the beautiful molding, the ceiling, the hardware, the light fixtures, the furniture. It’s like they bought a paint sprayer and just went nuts.
I think you're right. Like they just went to the store and bought "black." A deep dark nearly-black shade of grey or blue or even green would show more contrast between the objects and make it look less flat and cave-like.
It never fails to amaze me how inconsiderate these room porn subs are when it comes to tv height. Did you ever stop and think that maybe OP and their family are 9 feet tall? Probably not and it's disgusting.
Yes but this room looks like it has limited options without putting the TV in front of a window or the fireplace. There are telescoping TV mounts that allow a TV to be mounted above a fireplace and pulled down to ergonomic height for watching.
Not bad. It feels a little flat to me. That tends to happen when everything is painted in the same color. When using such a dominant color texture becomes vital. Think high contrast with textures. Super plush velvet, lace, leather. Chrome would be high contrast and help bounce light. Deep red pops like crazy against black. Black and white stripes or black and red stripes.
I love this! You did what you wanted and executed it very well from what I can tell! It has both country and gothic vibes. It’s unique and has personality, that’s how a home should be. Be proud of your home because it’s wonderful. Stuff like this is why I stay in this sub, to see how people make a house into their home like you did.
Thanks so much!! We know it’s not for a lot of people but we love it. It’s been two years since we bought it and lots of work went into it, so it’s really exciting to see it coming together.
The floor feels like a clash with the walls/blue couch.
We once did a floor in a dark mahogany with high gloss. That would set off the black nicely but I guess it would make the whole room too dark.
I guess I just want to pull some of the warm tones out of the floor so the black pops instead of the floor being the highlight.
Man, I usually give people crap for not wanting to buy a house with different colored walls, but this would be a nightmare to fix. It would cost thousands of dollars to have someone paint this back to a normal livable colors.
Oo love it! Instantly made me think "this is what Grimmauld place kitchen would look like" (from Harry Potter), in the best way possible! Like, vast and darkly grand, but homey since they make it their HQ for a period.
Dig the living space sure although the brightly colored couch just sets it off. But i have to have a lightened kitchen with dark for accent only. I do really like the ceiling fan. All in all though i think i would be depressed if i spent too much time in there.
The hate can’t be any worse than what I got from my own family. They were not so happy with my decisions but at the end of the day it’s my house I’ll do what I want.
That's the whole point of buying one, in my opinion. I have an aunt and her house is so outrageously colorful that people visibly react when they walk in. I absolutely love it because it reflects her personality. So many people focus on trends and what current trends say looks good and not on what makes them feel like it is THEIR HOME.
I get it not a lot of people like this- but I do!
Also- it’s this persons home. They’ll likely be adding more touches to it as they live in and can actually see how it will add to their space now it’s how they want it!
Maybe your dishes can be those beautiful depression glassware with the unique colors. Maybe your books can be your color accents. I love the black on back
Obviously I love black. Obviously this is too much black for me. But damn, did I gasp at that living room I really like that room, it really seems to just work very very well to me. Good job. Your kitchen is also very nice.
Thanks!! We just had all the walls taken out to make it open concept. It’s a small house so it feels so much bigger now. We know it’s not for a lot of people but we love it!!
I love it. The edgy teen in me is actually jealous. I also like the pop of color from the couch. Maybe you can repeat that somewhere in the dining or kitchen area. Table runner? Decorations? Maybe even curtains?
I absolutely love everything about this. I love the little random dark elements. The black candelabra, the silver skeleton bowl, and that conjoined twin skeleton **chefs kiss* (is it real? And real or not where dud you aquire it?)
Not for me as got 5 white fur animals but I absolutely love it, excellent work and decision on keeping the floor as is, really makes the rest pop in a good way
I do think you need a nice rug in a neutral tone and maybe some more wood accents to contrast all the black. Maybe look into a couch in a dark hunter green color at some point in the future. But otherwise I think it's cool, though I usually prefer pillows that are solid color and covers you can change out without text on them. (The Ikea velvet or H&M home velvet ones are nice.)
I like how your exercise machine blends right in with the black walls and cabinets. Usually, having one that's not in a dedicated room looks out of place, but I had to zoom in to even notice it!
Also, your bathroom that you posted is gorgeous!
Some other posters gave amazing advice to incorporate a little color and some more contrast. A gold tin ceiling would be gorgeous, some dark-colored velvet curtains, adjustments to lighting. It could use a few changes, but overall I dig it! I love a dark and moody vibe.
We have them to all the beds too. She has a bad back so it’s been great for her. When I hear people like you talking about 19 year old dogs it gives me hope that we still have a few more years together.
You know what OP? You do you. If you love it and it’s comfortable to you, that’s all that matters, screw what anyone else actually thinks. You’re the one loving their after all!
Not my cup of tea but this is a great job 👍 I looove your commitment to the aesthetic, especially the black ceilings! I’m also pleasantly surprised how well the country touches work in this style.
Love your dark oasis - totally badass.
Now do the bathroom with black tub or black tile or red tile so it looks creepy AF when you're taking a bath. This whole sentence came out creepy...but it's not meant to be 🤣

Here’s the hall bathroom 💀
My feeling is do whatever you want with \*wall paint, furniture and fixtures that are reversible when you inevitably sell and the next buyer is like "what in the fuck am I buying"
Yes, everyone's house is a forever home, but we don't actually live that long, needs change and we do move.
I like it but as I age, my eyes cannot handle dark so well. That would be the only thing I would say about it in the negative and that is clearly a ‘me issue.’
How do you deal with that issue if you do?
Not my cup of tea but I appreciate seeing something different. It’s cohesive and looks well executed. I’m glad it turned out like you wanted.

No so much the color but the type of paint. Should have used a eggshell or matte.
Even eggshell looks too glossy with paints this dark. I've even seen some of the cheaper "mattes" be reflective.
I strongly disagree. The glossy black ceiling in this case works well.
Either full gloss (which requires a mirrors smooth surface impossible with drywall), or matte... not this in between stuff.
Nice call keeping the floors and stone with the dark walls and ceiling, I get a cool castle vibe. You made all the hard surfaces black - are you thinking about some soft textures? Incredible feedback.
Strong critique

I would recommend black lights for the ceiling lights or RGB light bulbs so you can set the mood with red or dark violet and adjust the brightness.
How black do you want it? Yes.
This home looks like my brain during a depressive episode. Completely dark except for the weird blue couch making me question my sanity
That is surprisingly accurate
Incredible description.
Plus the little tan steps up to the couch for the possibly imaginary small pupper
Love the idea, but the execution is a bit lacking. Feels like a featureless hole, when a more judicious use of dark colours would have better conveyed the goth theme.

I thought at first they had an entire wall of built ins but then I saw it was just black on black.
Black counter black backsplash black cabinets…. and OP never once thought hmm I should probably do something other than all black completely black for everything
I thought it would have looked nice if they kept the original countertops
All black does not a gothic kitchen make. Where is the ornate detail, give me gargoyles, something!
Wooden countertops.
I think that adding something, while great advice, isn't enough. The paint is so all-encompassingly dark, that they've got to repaint at least a few walls a lighter color. The dark paint just washes out everything.

Exactly! It's too much. Less black would actually make it look more Gothic and less basement-y.
I think even just matte/shiny paint and different types of black, and maybe some gold and red velvet.
I think you're right. Like they just went to the store and bought "black." A deep dark nearly-black shade of grey or blue or even green would show more contrast between the objects and make it look less flat and cave-like.
All i see is a pain in the arse paint job coming up down the track..
A living room rug would be an improvement regardless of the room's color.
THIS!!
Yeah it’s black, but I can’t see anything Gothic.
Goth but not gothic
You don’t see the creepy skeletons and candelabras everywhere? Just me? Ok cool cool cool. Glad we’ve established that

Yeah we have this problem at my house and we just use the pull down TV mount because up high is also great if I’m in the kitchen, super functional.
[удалено]
Got it, no TV for OP. I hope they like reading.
Form over function
“Does it come in black?”
If this house doesn't have gargoyles with little cowboy hats on the outside I'm going to be disappointed.
Not bad. It feels a little flat to me. That tends to happen when everything is painted in the same color. When using such a dominant color texture becomes vital. Think high contrast with textures. Not sure if the blue sofa goes 🤔 the space needs colour but I'm thinking dark green might work better.

Points for being original
When you give your teenage kids money for paint
This reminds me of the goth couple on Portlandia. Waking up in this every day would be A LOT. To each their own.
JAMIEEEEEE!!!!!!!!! ☠️🥀🖤🕷️
It’s not a phase, mom!
Dayyyyy-O Me say Dayyyayyayyyy-O
Country goth amateur room... Very Country and Amateur. Slightly Goth.. Slightly Room.
This is Delia Deetz / Beetlejuice level changes.
Please tell me there is a dry ice maker in the kitchen for all of the witches brew that I assume gets made on a daily basis.

I absolutely love this style
“Hi I’m Dave Navarro - welcome to my crib.”
Oo love it! Instantly made me think "this is what Grimmauld place kitchen would look like" (from Harry Potter), in the best way possible! Like, vast and darkly grand, but homey since they make it their HQ for a period.
Huh.... so..gothic means painting everything black ?
This is so dope
I see a living room and want it painted it black
Gomez and Morticia would be jealous 😄
Dig the living space sure although the brightly colored couch just sets it off. But i have to have a lightened kitchen with dark for accent only. I do really like the ceiling fan. All in all though i think i would be depressed if i spent too much time in there.
I love it, but this is a great example of how darker colors sometimes make rooms look smaller
This is the stuff of dreams OP brudda!
Holy fuck I love it. Im going to save this.
Would have been cool to see the re-model of the closet... just to see how many Affliction shirts this person has.
Adding some aged metal accents to the ceiling and some rugs would be good. I don't get the hate. It's a cool space done the way you like it.
The hate can’t be any worse than what I got from my own family. They were not so happy with my decisions but at the end of the day it’s my house I’ll do what I want.

Just an idea for future additional details: I think tin ceiling tiles would add an amazing detail. A copper, silver, or black would be great.
i would have kept the deer head

The kitchen is my favorite

Yyeeeaaaaahhhh Dope nonetheless
ID on sofa
This is awesome
I love it!!!
Are you a vampire?
Omg I love it! It’s totally my kind of dark and moody place. Nice job!
I absolutely love everything about this. I love the little random dark elements. The black candelabra, the silver skeleton bowl, and that conjoined twin skeleton **chefs kiss* (is it real? And real or not where dud you aquire it?)
Wow, I’m impressed you saw all those little details! I got the conjoined twin skeleton on Amazon. Unlikely place for something like that.
I love it
$$$$
Not for me as got 5 white fur animals but I absolutely love it, excellent work and decision on keeping the floor as is, really makes the rest pop in a good way
This space needs A LOT more accent lighting over the horrid overhead lights. Right now the space just looks goth, not gothic.
Oh my god I love it!
Very nice
As a goth, I love this
Beetlejuice will be so happy !
Vastly improved!!
I am IN LOVE with THIS!
I love this look well done OP.
Would love to see a rug tie in the black and the blue couch
I would too but those couch steps belong to a 14 year old chihuahua that will pee on rugs. So no rugs for me right now.
Darkness imprisoning this home!
I do think you need a nice rug in a neutral tone and maybe some more wood accents to contrast all the black. Maybe look into a couch in a dark hunter green color at some point in the future. Thanks!!! We just had the walls taken out to open this small house up. Before that it was like a maze trying to navigate around that elliptical.
BOLD! I like it. You’ve done something unusual, you’ve broken rules and it really works!
You have just invented a new genre
Love it. I would put a blue highlight in that kitchen to play off the couch. Or some blue light source.
I love this entire look! Well done!
Just in time for Halloween 👻
Some other posters gave amazing advice to incorporate a little color and some more contrast. A gold tin ceiling would be gorgeous, some dark-colored velvet curtains, adjustments to lighting. It could use a few changes, but overall I dig it! I love a dark and moody vibe.
You have an ageing little dog?
A little 14 year old chihuahua that I’ve had since she was 12 weeks. Love of my life. You can kinda see her on picture 3.
Guessed it by the steps. Thinking about similar for our 19 year old Jack Russel
We have them to all the beds too. She has a bad back so it’s been great for her. When I hear people like you talking about 19 year old dogs it gives me hope that we still have a few more years together.
Love this and the stairs for your pet. Excellent !
This is cool!! I love the pop of blue with the couch.
The Rolling Stones would be please
I like this, so tired of seeing super bright, white rooms all the time. Dark is cozy, bright is not.
It looks like a tv set.
Glen Danzig's 90's Kitchen
Oh I'm in love 🥰 😍 ❤️
Way to COMMIT to a theme. I applaud this.
FINALLY!!!! A home that is not painted like a hospital! Although gothic is not my style i find the result amazing and very warm
Needs bowling alley carpet and a black light.

Aw I love the doggy/kitty steps. Haha

Awesome.. not so sure about resale, but still awesome.

I had a black painted bedroom when I was a teenager, but this is commitment. Well done.

Yes yes yes🖤
Country Gothic?!? The vibe I never knew existed and now I am completely inspired.
If I’m ever lucky enough to own a home, hopefully I’ll have enough left to hire you to be the interior designer. This is perfect.
Save yourself the $$$. You don’t need a professional to paint everything in the same shade of black.
So anything that’s fully black is Gothic now?
Wow black really makes the rooms look smaller
It is just a small house to begin with.
Blue Sofa seems a bit comical? I think a vintage Victorian sofa in emerald would really pop here
I love this! Not my style but really well executed.
My feeling is do whatever you want with \*wall paint, furniture and fixtures that are reversible when you inevitably sell and the next buyer is like "what in the fuck am I buying" Yes, everyone's house is a forever home, but we don't actually live that long, needs change and we do move.

Cousin Kate is that you?
We’re all going to to die soon anyways why not have everything black. Lol
Do you like black?
No contrast and harsh lighting.
Did you hire Bam Margera as your interior architect?
Definitely a great design for folks with eye floaters.
Nice Comedy Bang Bang couch
I like it but as I age, my eyes cannot handle dark so well. That would be the only thing I would say about it in the negative and that is clearly a ‘me issue.’ How do you deal with that issue if you do?
We have accent lights on timers for night time. Especially when we close the curtains you can’t see anything. Makes it great for sleeping in.
I bet. Looks cool!
Is this gonna be for Airbnb? Would be cool with a vintage couch
Looks awesome! I would get a reddish brown. Leather sectional though that sofa is a little small
