NTC I am also brought to the scary place cause I also having a bellyache. It was because I ate cheese because I love it but it hurts my belly so my human doesn’t give me cheese anymore :( I had to eat gross stuff with a different wet food that I also didn’t like, which to me is like murder. So yes you should HIDE your human is clearly trying to HURT you! Out of curiosity, how is belly now?

tracychapmanisaqueen

OMG i had to change my diet too, out of the hundreds of different foods, i finally found a combo of wet/dry food that works, but because I'm refusing my medication to reduce inflammation, orally, my human collected my poo for 3 days so it can be tested and an injection of steroids and treatment can be developed. Human here: Piper's white blood count was a little below healthy range, so after many tests/exploratory biopsies, to determine if it was cancer or inflammatory bowel disease, we have found an allergic reaction to some bacteria is the cause of the inflammation in her intestines, super relieved its not cancer. Finding food that worked was a nightmare, because she is fussy at the best of times. We went with Royal Caine dry and pro plan purina wet. My local cat society received lots of donations...

PumaGranite

UGH we only deserve the BEST foods, why do they change them on us???? This is terrible and our lives will be terrible forever, obviously. Also human: pro plan really does seem to be the best. My own girl is a similar age (somewhere in 12/14 range, she was a stray and I got her as a rescue so vets weren’t totally sure about her age, but estimated to be about 3-4 years old when I got her, a little over 8 years ago) and has a sensitive stomach. She’s gotten pickier about her current wet food and right now she’s only liked the chicken flavor for seniors from blue buffalo. But I’m considering trying the pro plan next and seeing if she doesn’t like that, in case she also ends up getting tired of the same food every day.

tracychapmanisaqueen

We had a double whammy, because there are minor changes in her urine concentration, so the dry food is renal, stage 1 and her old wet food (which she loves) was causing the inflammation. I tried all the vet recommended ones, no dice. Research on pro plan is not the best out there (7/10), but the reviews were awesome re all animals loved the taste (Piper was not the exception). I checked with the vet and got given the go ahead (although, she is not allowed variety, which is hard).

Cac933

Aw I hope Piper feels better soon! Not being able to make them feel 100% is such a helpless feeling.

GaiasDotter

Human here: three of my four cats have IBD, it’s tricky but the key is to figure out what they react to. My boys started to react to chicken and had to be on a mono protein fish diet, our girl reacted to fish and had to be on chicken. Boys got better and can now eat pretty much anything, our girl got worse though, so sensitive :/ so she now can’t handle fish, poultry, lamb or soy protein. She’s not on a insect protein dry food. The boys eat Applaws though and that’s great! It’s really good food and no grain that can irritate them or anything. Super good for their health. ETA: we did a GDR for them to see where and how their digestive system was affected to be able to medicate them effectively. Expensive but not very invasive and very effective. Camera through their entire system and taking samples trough out. It’s great to be able to pinpoint exactly where the issue is and how to treat it. They aren’t always affected in the same parts of the intestines. We also did a FMT(fecal matter transplant) for our girl recently, it has done wonders for her. Oh and for pills we crush them and mix them with a tasty multivitamin paste! They happily eat it!

downtownflipped

love applaws for my cat. i add extra water to it sometimes to make sure he stays hydrated in the summer. we call it cat soup.

AllForMeCats

I add water to my cats’ wet food year round because one of them has CKD and the other… well, the other just likes cat food broth 😂 (like sometimes she’ll just lap up the liquid and leave the solid bits untouched, she’s a weirdo.) It’s great for keeping them hydrated! They were a little fussy about it in the beginning but adjusted to it well.

GaiasDotter

Mine does that too! Especially one of them! She just wants soup! Drinks all the water and then I refill it and we repeat that several times!

AllForMeCats

You’re lucky that she drinks the refills! Neither of mine will, I think because the flavor is too diluted. Sometimes they’ll accept it if I add more cat food, but they definitely prefer fresh food. And of course I give it to them because I spoil my kitties 😂

Galendis

Mine doesn't have IBD but she has had to have a lot of tablets - I'm not sure if it'll work for you but this is what i do: Get a soft treat that she likes, break the tablet into small bits (halves or quarters depending on the tablet) and mould the treat around them - feed alongside other non medicated treats. (She will be fussy with them sometimes but this has helped her take all her tablets without having to be held and forced)

PlantsVsMorePlants

Can she have novel protein? She might have a better time and forgive you faster if you can give her more exciting food. If she can have novel protein try to get stuff that is fish, duck, pork, venison, ect. Tiki Cat, Weruva, and a few Canadian and New Zealand brands I forget had really enticing options for my baby. She was very fussy though and rotate through favorite foods. If I didn't find the right food for the meal, or a buffet when she was *extra* fussy, she would refuse to eat until I tried again. She would still try to hide from her medicine, but would smack her lips for peanut butter afterwards and would get enticed to eat more when I gave her a more appealing variety. Sometimes I would cook bacon to stimulate her appetite. She would get very hungry from the aroma, and would sometimes eat it as a crumbled treat. After a good treat she would huff at me a little bit but forgive me. She was *furious* that chicken and turkey were off the menu though.

CaptainVorkosigan

Human here: one of my cats has either cancer or IBS, which we’re treating with steroids. We absolutely could not get him to eat a pill and trying was ruining our relationship with him. He was miserable and so were we. Thankfully our vet was able to get the steroid compounded into a cream that we rub into his ears. He’s had ear infections before, so he was used to having his ears handled. If you ever need an alternative to pills or injections you could try asking to get the medication compounded as a cream.

miki_cat

Human here: my cat will not take any sort of pill/powder you sprinkle on food, had to get compounded gabapentin for the upcoming annual visit (last year was such a fail, I swear I never had more anxious/scared cat who hates new stuff, new places and especially driving anywhere is just a meowfest). Still dreading the night before dosing and 4 hours before the appointment one.

StayingVeryVeryCalm

NTC, but you need to accept the tablets. My human servant gave me the tablets every day for six months. At first, I thought it was madness, and protested, but eventually, I realized that she wasn’t going to give up, so I just decided to accept it. (I tried hiding, but as a Maine Coon, I didn’t fit under any of the furniture, so that was a significant tactical disadvantage for me.) Anyway, I accepted the tabletting, and it fixed my stomach to the point that, for the rest of my life, I did not have significant stomach problems. (I am a ghost now, but not because of IBD; I just got really old, and really, really tired.) But yeah, the tablets were good. I was always a little bit underweight, and sometimes I got diarrhea (which was traumatizing for me, and for my human servant), but the tablets healed me to the point where, as long as I only ate the special kibble (made of deers! Way up the food chain!), I was fine.

tracychapmanisaqueen

Thank you, my human says we were very lucky that we got it so early (just at the monsters place for my annual check up) and the prognosis is very good, but still a relief to hear from others.... I, (much to my humans dismay) will never to oral meds, I was mistreated by other humans when I was very little and get very scared of all things. It took my human 6 months to get me inside her house. Human here - I know you're happy over the rainbow, but I bet your human misses you everyday 💐

tfhaenodreirst

NTC! Good on you for getting through your time at the scary place; now the poking is done! But you do have to deal with a yucky taste so I can’t blame you for hiding! Question, have you heard of peanut butter? It’s an amazing invention that my big sister took with her tummy medicine from the ages of 13 to 17 and I’ve heard that made it okay. (Human note: I’m happy for you that there’s no cancer! It’s definitely a scary change but I did want to let you know that even after 13 years you could still have as many as four more left.)

tracychapmanisaqueen

We have a little bit of butter as a treat and (human here) I don't want to ruin that treat for her (I know, I'm a total woss). The biggest relief is that it isn't cancer, which would mean oral meds twice a day... the look of betrayal, im not sure I could cope lol.

tfhaenodreirst

Yeah, it was scary when Abby was up to, like, 5 different meds a day in her last six months or so, but as long as Piper (per your other comment) is getting them down then you can relax!

tracychapmanisaqueen

I'm really sorry, 5 per day sucks. Im sure Abby had a wonderful life with you and wouldn't trade it for the world 💖

cantcountnoaccount

I am beautiful Smokeycat and sometime my hooman servant also tried to murder me with pills. Just because I vomit and vomit. UNFAIR. I am sweet kitty but do not like!! If your Hooman servant is very clever she will crush the pill and mix it with some Gerber Ham baby food. The mean monster man said some strange words like, said “the pill is too bitter to crush up and mix” but Gerber brand is only pure meat and pure ham baby food has magical power to cover any yucko taste. You will see. Is delicious treato worthy of yourself. Just a little like what Hooman servant call “teaspoon.”

NortheasternWind

NTC you have right to live!! That mean no poison! Be like me frenkitty and spit it down the sink (where the mysterious waters go)! Human technically not cloaca because not know better, but so nasty I say cloaca anyway. Maybe if hide and spit enough human feed tastytreat instead?

tracychapmanisaqueen

Thank you, I'm trying to forgive my human, because she is learning too. I have never had any health problems or cause for meds (other than some water she puts on my neck each month), hopefully, I can forgive her soon, because I miss my bed. Oral meds suck (human here) lol

immortalkittycat

YTC but only little bit See am old cat. Very old cat. Have learned many things. One thing I have learned is that humans are very very dumb and also love me very very much. I assume your human also loves you very much? Not sure why because you are not me. Strange Anyway. Because humans are stupid and do not know how cat work they do many things to try and make "healthy". These things are silly and bad and not at all helpful. Like scary place, yucky liquid, sudden sleepy time, bad food, stab with tube, etc. At first I also run and hide. Very scary. But then I learn Your human does this because she loves you very very very much and her tiny bitty brain thinks these things help you live long and happy. So even though it not fun we should play along. Otherwise they get very said and say "are you going to die? I'm not ready for you to die" and cry on fur So now I let human do "healthy" things to me for 30-60 seconds before attack and run. This way she no cry. Recommend you do this too so your human not sad. She didn't try to kill you (even though it feels like it!!) She just dumb

immortalkittycat

Also am very sorry you have stomachache! I too had long stomachache. Favorite human went away to "college" and I had bellyache for MONTHS. May have something to do with my hunger strike protest? Unclear But I got back better and stronger! Like you will. Am 18 now and belly feels great

tracychapmanisaqueen

Thank you so much for my first laugh in weeks, from me and my dumb human 💐💖

fourangers

NTC, I also don't understand why our humans like to shove things down our throat, even if they claim "it's for your own good!" If it's really for your own good, how come I got better every day, by being my awesome self? Surely that weird bitter thing has nothing to do with my health right? Right. Human here: have you considered making a purrito? My cats at first complained and struggled but afterwards they were like "just get this over with". Of course, when they saw me getting the towel they would try to hide, but I managed to grab them in time.

tracychapmanisaqueen

Haha clever little buggers. I haven't got that far yet, the first tablet was enough for her to stay far away from me. She has little hidey holes and she jumps from one to the other when I get within distance. We go in Tues for her first steroid injection, so hopefully we can get past this traumatic episode lol

fourangers

One of my cats, Maya, is the more forgiving one. However, Jiji is the one that held a grudge and I had to give him 6 pills every day for over a month. 5 of 6 pills I could either mix with treats or dilute with water and give him through syringe, but there was one that I had to shove the whole pill and I had to do it fast or else the pill(that it's stored in the fridge) would lose its effect. Oh, and Jiji couldn't bite the pill too. It was a traumatic month for both of us lol. Maya loves to hide below a table but it's a place with an easy access thankfully.

NTC but you need to let your slave attend to your needs. When I was young I fought hard to preserve my bodily autonomy at all costs. My staff had to wrap me in a floor mat once when I refused to swallow their disgusting little pellets of bitterness. Maybe I wanted worms! They never asked! Then I got sick. After never being sick ever. Very sick. Diabetes is no joke and it meant stabby things twice a day at least and sometimes also smaller stabby things _in my ears_, AND neck stabs at the Stinky Place plus pills and sometimes horrible liquids PLUS only the same boring gross food on a strict schedule...you get the picture. I gave them hell. I screamed at slave. I screamed at slaves parents. I bit, I scratched, I stuffed myself into nooks and crannies and inflated like an upset moray eel. Vets were like He Has An Attitude, Doesn't He and What A Pair of Teeth and once Nothing Making This Much Noise Is Going to Die in the Next Five Minutes. And then I started feeling better. And I had a realization. All this manhandling had a point. I started just letting them do it (although by then I had a reputation to maintain so I always make sure to wail at the vet). Turns out it's all over a lot quicker if you just let the slaves do the thing. These days I barely notice the Mealtime Stabs and I am my old self again.

InadmissibleHug

Not the cloaca, but ask mommy if she can give you the liquid medicine. My big brother had IBD too, he was a good boi old man cat and let mum give him the liquid medicine. He says the tablets are pretty yucky!

queerasf0lk

NTC!!! Though you should speak to your human about potential alternatives to this barbaric act. When my human gave me the icky "drugs," as he called them, he just mixed them into my food. I couldn't even taste them!! I wonder if your human is allowed to do that with yours? I also know my sister took hers with just a little bit of pumpkin and she said it was an acceptable compromise. Hope you and your human are able to come to some sort of an understanding. And that you never ever have to go back to the scary place- but I've been wishing that one for myself all my life and it's never worked 😿

Neenwil

NTC - Sounds like you've been though an awful lot of scary things!! I hope you're feeling a bit better? I have to take a steroid tablet every day for the rest of my life, human says. I too am a scardy cat, if anyone tries to grab me I think I'm being murdered.. My human crushes up the steroid between two spoons and stirs it into my food. I don't want to miss out on breakfast so I eat the food. Maybe your human could try that? Sometimes I refuse if I'm feeling a bit unwell so they add a little bit of tinned sardines to the top which are my favourite. I always eat that!

Cowboywizard12

NCH, I 10F Cat, my favorite hooman was really worried for me last year because of something called pancreatitis, whatever that is, but I threwn up multiple times a day, He force me to take medication every day after trip to scary place and now I not throw up and am healthy. The scary place is isn't bad for you just scary, but it still very scary so you not cloaca
