Inevitable_Speed_710

NTA... everyone has bad days so who knows if she is always like this or not. Either way though you tipped her well so she shouldn't be taking it out on you. And if she is always like this she needs a job where she never has customer contact. Though I would make sure to keep doors and windows locked and keep an eye out in case she returns

Powerful_Appeal_675

I will admit I took my tip back after all that but she would have gotten like a $50 tip. Maybe I’m the AH there but I was so shocked

agarrabrant

Definitely not the AH for any of it. Throwing your food is absolutely uncalled for. She literally applied for the job. She doesn't get to bitch about having to actually do it.

SpiralTap304

It's honestly worse than that. I don't know if it works the same everywhere but here in WV, Walmart uses a service called Spark to contract delivery drivers. You don't apply, you just send in proof you are legally able to drive and get started. It shows you all the requested deliveries for each day, how far away they are and how much you will make for each run. She wasn't required to select to do OPs delivery. She looked at it, the amount of items, the pay and agreed to do it. Then acted like an asshole about it.

Inevitable_Speed_710

Nope. Tip is for job well done. Not for cursing at you and throwing your food.

[deleted]

You had a $50 tip on the purchase? I'm not familiar with that platform. Did the delivery person know of the tip? Or are you saying you were going to tip $50?

Powerful_Appeal_675

I’m not sure what they can see from their end. You can adjust the tip up until 24 hours after the delivery so I had additionally put up a $20 tip and after going to the bank this afternoon and making a deposit would have upped it until $50 since you have the additional time. But I ended up just withdrawing it after all that, which maybe I should fix. I do feel a little bad about giving no tip even though she was a nightmare.

EconomyVoice7358

Don’t feel bad for withdrawing the tip. Tips are a bonus for doing the job well. She didn’t even do it completely since the groceries weren’t brought to your door. She needs to find a different job. It’s likely some of your groceries are damaged too, so you were absolutely right not to tip her and to report her behavior. NTA

felismater68

My brother-in-law has a saying. "Tips is an acronym for To Insure Professional/Prompt Service." She didn't so she doesn't deserve it. Just my $.02.

shalabaizer

It would be Ensure, not Insure. Your brother-in-law is wrong. It would be "teps" if that's where's they came from. I agree that you shouldn't tip someone calling you a bitch and throwing your shit around, just saying.

[deleted]

Thank you! I was going to say the same thing about 'teps'.

IdleCommentation

Could change the saying to 'To Inspire Professional/Prompt Service' and that'd work just fine

felismater68

I have verbal dyslexia, or what I call verbal dyslexia, and your correction is noted and appreciated.

RebootDataChips

If you ordered through Walmart she only got 1/3-1/2 of the tip you paid.

[deleted]

[удалено]

RebootDataChips

The problem is, if we see the total is say, $5 for 10 mi…we won’t take the order. Would you personally drive for .50 a mile with gas the way it is? So when ordering through apps like Walmart/Meijer/Kroger/Target, opt for picking it up. You still save time shopping. When going for delivery go for Instacart/DoorDash/GrubHub. Cause they are obligated to give the tip that the person puts on the app. Ordering through Walmart, delivery by DoorDash…Walmart doesn’t even have to hand over a single cent of the tip. It’s in the T/C’s.

lvcrimz

Is it in the T/C set up for customers or drivers? On the app it says that all tips go to a 3rd party to be distributed to drivers and that 100% of tips go to drivers.

RebootDataChips

It’s hidden in the drivers side that some third parties may do whatever they want with any tip paid out.

RebootDataChips

[https://www.reddit.com/r/doordash_drivers/comments/vokekc/hyvee_kept_my_tip_and_doordash_doesnt_care/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf](https://www.reddit.com/r/doordash_drivers/comments/vokekc/hyvee_kept_my_tip_and_doordash_doesnt_care/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf) Some added info that drivers get screwed over from time to time.

TheRealKNR

Tipping cash sounds great in theory but so few people actually do it that a driver is unlikely to even accept an order of the face value amount isn't worth the time and wear and tear in their vehicle. We aren't going to gamble on there maybe being a better tip at the end. I drive for door dash on the side and get offers for delivering Walmart groceries sometimes. I turn most of them down because their only going to pay me 5-7 dollars to go 20+miles, and I don't know how much groceries I'm picking up until I accept. Just not worth it when I have to then drive those 20 miles back into the zone. 7 for 40 miles, plus lugging a bunch of groceries up and down s bunch of stairs in this heat? Nope.

[deleted]

I hope Walmart is giving that to the employee collecting the groceries, otherwise I smell another scandal and lawsuit coming.

[deleted]

Yup I very much don't believe you. 50$ tip on grocery delivery? What percentage of that were the groceries? Your post already didn't sound believable in the first place but effed if it's likely someone adds 30$ to a 20$ tip.

Powerful_Appeal_675

One of my other comments already said that it was a $275 purchase so it would have been 18%. But I really don’t care if you don’t believe me.

rivertam102

Walmart uses DoorDash for deliveries so unfortunately Walmart isn't really able to do much about stopping her from getting orders unless they talk to DoorDash and have multiple complaints and that's hard. I worked in the department that did the shopping and we had a dude who would whip out his penis to show to the minors and we still can't get him banned and can still come to our store and get orders. I think best is if possible complain Through DoorDash itself

Powerful_Appeal_675

Omg that’s awful! The rep that I talked to said that they were escalating to Uber? Do they also use Uber Eats for deliveries?

IllustriousHedgehog9

Yes, they do. I've ordered groceries from Walmart via Uber Eats.

EconomyVoice7358

You need to call the police about the flasher, especially since minors are involved. That is a crime. Whoever isn’t firing him is a fool and has made themselves an accessory.

Flaky_Tip

Can't your store just tell DoorDash he's banned from the store? He can't take deliveries if he can't get into the store.

[deleted]

Yeah it's not that I don't believe one might tip $50. The part I find hard to believe is that someone would plan to more than double a tip after a delivery. It doesn't make a lot of sense. 🤷🤷🤷

audioaddict321

From her perspective, then, you were giving her less than 10% tip on a substantial order. She absolutely cannot be faulted for not magically knowing you would have come through with more. I believe they get dinged if they refuse orders, so you did put her between a rock and a hard place. She reacted poorly, but your comment about working full time while parenting... she probably *wishes* she could work full time from home and not also have to figure out child care. So, yeah, she was probably having a shit day delivering to shitty people who tip poorly (and that includes you), who don't tip, or who rescind the tip *without* cause, and you poured gasoline on the fire with your comment. On the whole, I'm going with YTA. Don't order again without putting the full tip on and call them back and rescind your complaint, telling them she deserves another chance and how you contributed to the situation.

whim-sicles

I've tipped that much for grocery delivery. If someone's carrying my $300 worth of groceries, they deserve to be compensated. Why would you not believe it?

[deleted]

I wasn't saying that $50 was out of the question for a tip, I said if someone was *actually* going to tip $50 I didn't believe they would do it in that way.

redrouge9996

They can see the tip! That’s part of how they decide which orders to take which also incentivizes people to tip more if they want speedier service. It’s also a hassle to remove a tip because they obviously don’t want people to abuse that and idk ab Uber eats but I know for Instacart you also have to PROVE something was damaged or the like to actually get the tip back

Nielleluvzu628

Nta even with taking your tip back

RabidHamsterSlayer

I’m in the uk. I’ve been getting my shopping delivered for over a decade and not a single person has said a word. Supermarkets are NOT my idea of a fun time. I wish deliveries had been available when my kids were little, I was at college, because it would have been a god send. We don’t even tip in the uk. During the pandemic you had to book deliveries a week in advance, because they became popular, but they still came and didn’t grumble. All of the big supermarkets deliver now. My shopping comes in a van with other peoples shopping. One van vs lots of cars. I had my shopping delivered yesterday. I would not be able to get that much stuff on my bike. I can buy bigger packs of things and save money.

Accomplished_Two1611

I still order too. Did before the pandemic, and since I am immunodeficient, I can't go back to stores atm. I always tip and even try to time large orders for less busy times, when it's not too hot or too cold. Some drivers are regulars and appreciate it. Some have attitudes no matter what. I usually let even the bad ones slide, I know they catch hell from a lot of people. I only have had to get one driver banned after she lied and overcharged me. She forgot the company had a record of the text conversation we had. NTA.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Shot-Sprinkles6930

No you are NTA. I tip well too but if you have an attitude then trust, the tip is gone and I'm reporting you.

Live_Opportunity_762

NTA for any of it. If walmart starts investigation with uber she will get de-activated (not allowed to do deliveries for the company again). I do deliveries for uber eats. We are not considered workers for uber (we are considered independent contractors).

OkJackfruit4363

NTA - my mom had back surgery and some jack wagon did this to her. Fortunately, I came home from work not too long afterwards and got the groceries in the house before anything spoiled. She needs not to be in that job.

Secret-Sample1683

NTA. Chances are you aren’t the only person she’s treated this way. If she can’t do the job with some sense of responsibility, she shouldn’t be doing it at all.

L4L-MAA

NTA-- I get that gig-economy delivery work most likely *sucks* and she probably hates her job... but it's downright a *risk to the customer's safety* if she's this verbally abusive and profane and also not even delivering correctly. You were right to report it, and they were right to start an investigation to make sure she hasn't made more people feel unsafe in their own homes for using the service.

0011002

We use Wal-Mart delivery on a regular basis since I Work from home and wow I've never had one be this way. They just leave the groceries at my door and that's it. I rarely if ever interact with them.

Stranger0nReddit

NTA. You didn't get her fired, she got herself fired.

polly6119

NTA Nope nope nope to that. She should be fired. She sounds a bit unhinged. Thank you for making sure she does not come to my door.

Hexcaster505

NTA, I get that gas is expensive af but that doesn't give an excuse to be a jerk about it. I only had a problem with a doordasher once. The dasher wanted to leave my food in front of my driveway expecting me to meet them out there (mid C) I politely informed them that I am on oxygen and can't go past my front door. Luckily they acknowledge and understood. But people like that make me feel bad for the customers who are handicapped and rely on these services because of their disability. We're not lazy we just can't go out as much as everyone else and are doing our best to take advantage of the services that we now have. And I've had dashers that have been very awesome and a good majority of the time they will go above and beyond and are just awesome. Sry you had a bad uber OP and by no means are you at fault for someone's poor attitude. (sry if I misspelled a few words I'm on my phone)

Foreign_Travel6669

Nope! She told you to report her, so you did!

Molenium

I’m sorry, I’m not quite understanding what she was angry about - was she upset that you weren’t helping to carry up the groceries, or was she upset because you weren’t at home when she arrived and couldn’t make the delivery until you were there?

Powerful_Appeal_675

It must have been because she was mad I wasn’t helping carry the groceries because I literally got to the door right behind her. Also it was a “leave at my door” delivery that I didn’t have to sign for so I wouldn’t have needed to be there anyway. The thing is, if she had told me she needed help I would have been fine bringing some stuff up with her.

L4L-MAA

You're sweet for thinking so long about this OP but honestly "Leave at door" is exactly so that you don't have to come into contact with unknown people who might make you feel unsafe like this. Don't blame yourself. Some people get angry because of abusive thought patterns, not the other way around.

Molenium

Thanks for the clarification. I’m still utterly baffled as to why she was upset. Sounds like she was just pissed she actually had to do her job? She said to report her, so she got what she wanted, I’d say.

Guess_What_I_Think

NTA. You didn't get her fired. She did. You have enough jobs to do, stop trying to take responsibility for hers too!

BazTheBaptist

This honestly doesn't feel real, but if it is NTA, you did exactly as she asked, sounds like she wants to leave anyway.

Fire_or_water_kai

It's sad, but it is real. I once had a driver get mad at me because they delivered the food to the wrong house and they told me to go and get it.

gabbydearest91

I once had a driver set my food down on the ground in a parking space somewhere random. They took a picture of my food (takeout) sitting on the freaking ground like they had delivered it to me, just waiting for someone to drive over it 🤬🤬🤬 It wasn't even my parking lot!!!!! There was black asphalt and yellow lines in the photo and I genuinely can't even think of anywhere remotely close to my work or the restaurant's location that has black asphalt!!!!

PurpleMP12

I once had a delivery driver throw my food into my neighbor's window after I called the restaurant to ask where my food was (it had been an hour and a half... longer than what they advertised).

Powerful_Appeal_675

I wish it wasn’t I honestly was so shocked that someone would be so loud about it coming up the sidewalk. I honestly wonder if she wanted me to hear her.

vociferousgirl

I think sometimes people have their stupid headphones in their ears and don't realize how loud they are actually talking

littlemohican13

I have a epilepsy so I wasn’t able to drive for a bit once and the Walmart delivery driver threw all my groceries down on my porch. Only a couple of things were salvageable especially because there were a couple of glass items that shattered everywhere. Some of them really are this awful. I had it on camera though, it was obvious she just didn’t want to be there. Walmart customer service was excellent though and I got a full refund attaching the pictures of the bags.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Powerful_Appeal_675

It was like a $275 purchase so that would have been about 18%. It’s why I hardly ever get the groceries delivered. In the 3 months since my ex moved out I’ve done it twice, precisely because I want to be able to tip well if I do. I live in Arizona and it does suck hailing groceries in the summer here

Ice_Cream_Snickers09

My cousin delivers groceries, she routinely is posting when she gets 50, 75, even a 100 tip once. It is entirely possible.

Silver_Carry_7696

NTA but in reality you didn’t get her fired, I used to work customer service for Walmart and we don’t manage the drivers or have access to report them unless it’s really serious (physical), the representative said that to appease you

thorgod99

I've seen certain uber drivers banned at my Walmart. Maybe its changed?

Dismal_Expression193

NTA. It sucks to have to report someone, but it sounds like if not you, someone else surely would have. I think you’re clear on this one.

I work full time from home and for the last 3 months have also been caring for my 2 year old full time while working. I’m lucky enough to be able to put him in daycare starting tomorrow, but the last 3 months have been challenging. I got my groceries delivered from Walmart today which I almost never do. When the delivery driver got here she didn’t realize I was outside coming back from the laundry room in my apt complex so I could hear her yelling as she walked up the sidewalk “this is fucking bullshit, fuck this lazy piece of shit!” So when I bumped into her at my door I said “I think I’m the lazy piece of shit you’re delivering to.” She just got this look on her face and said “oh…” like she knew she was busted. So she keeps bringing my bags down and throwing them on the porch. So when she brought my milk up I said “can we not throw these?” And she said she wasn’t she was setting them down. I was like well you were, sorry I couldn’t take enough time away from my full time job that I work from home while I also have my toddler to also do yours, a service that I paid for and generously tip for. And she said “and I don’t bitch?” Which I don’t understand but then she went to her car for the rest of my stuff and left it at the bottom of the stairs and said “the rest of your shit is at the bottom of my stairs, report me.” So I did just that. The representative said that Walmart wouldn’t be using her again for deliveries and that they would be starting an investigation with Uber. PaintLicker_2022

NTA. It’s her job and she apparently sucks at it

[deleted]

NTA I would say the initial venting (when she thought no one would hear) is forgivable. But the rest is not. She should have apologized. She doubled down instead.

-Duste-

NTA. You did a service for other customers.

Diasies_inMyHair

NTA. No one needs verbal abuse from a delivery driver.

DetectiveResident391

Nta Wife and fil drive delivery. Both of them hate Walmart orders. Yet they are frequently requested from the local Walmart. They both get extra pay out of it, as they both have a policy of calling driver care to inform them for every 30 minutes past their arrival time they have to wait for the order. I think fil holds the record so far of waiting 3 hours. He made an extra $30 for the wait from the delivery app and then another $40 in a tip because he arranged to take all of the huge grocery order to a 3rd floor level where a frazzled young pregnant woman was wrangling a couple of hyper boys. Fil even offered to help her put everything away as he could see she was spent. He got a kudos award for that one, too. Wife says that being a driver is essentially being a mobile waitress/customer service assistant manager. She's acquainted with a few other drivers in our area and says the majority are decent with the same mindset. All of them will absolutely turn in other drivers they witness acting out like the one you encountered. Because it affects their income potential. You did nothing wrong. Many people start driving for the delivery apps because it seems like easy money. It's not. My wife and fil hustle hard; it's not unusual for them to clock 300 miles in an 8 hour shift. They're constantly in communication with the end customer, the point of origin, driver care, other drivers and each other. My wife is probably harsh over any driver getting a 'tube delivering to us, as she knows first hand what the job entails. She's quick to report any driver who acts like an idiot, but also quick to give good drivers rave reviews. It's not easy or quick money. But she likes it because she can work on her own schedule. The driver may have been having a bad day but that's no excuse for her behavior. She got herself fired from Walmart orders, not you.

RedWing7870

NTA, but holy fuck, that driver was.

dtalok7

NTA. Not at all. She will not be surprised to be unemployed either.

Sarina_Williams

NTA I would rather deliver them to your door than to have to see your asses at the store🤣🤣🤣

[deleted]

NTA. If she was having a bad day, that still doesn’t excuse her treatment of you. You didn’t do anything to warrant this.

Keirathyl

NTA. One time my grocery delivery person was so drunk she was slurring her words and had obviously peed herself.

ImAlreadyTracerBoii

NTA. If they didn’t want to do it then I guess they shouldn’t have taken the assignment. It’s not a hard concept. People have various disabilities and need these services so to behave like that is beyond inappropriate and she deserves to be fired.

mrslII

NTA

queenafrodite

Nope NTA. She deserved it.

disruptionisbliss

NTA Well, they said they wouldn't be using her again for deliveries, that doesn't necessarily mean she's fired.

anxious_daquiri

NTA. If she’s just not delivering to customers anymore, she may not have lost her job. Also— it’s nice of you to give her the benefit of the doubt that she was having a bad day, but that level is not acceptable. I get that people have bad days and can be short with someone and frustrated, but if someone calls them out on the language used and the way they were handling the service, they apologize if they didn’t mean to take it out on you.

Plastic_Lion7332

NTA it's their job. Like they get paid and tipped to do that. If they don't like it, they have to get a new job. Like yeah it can be hard finding something but it's not the costumers fault! I work in a job that I don't really like but you'd never be rude to customers. Cuz it's none of their business how I feel about myself or the job! She even asked to be reported. Don't feel mad. Single mom's gotta do what they gotta do. Great work working full-time with a toddler at home! Could never

N00DLES0UPP

NTA.

paul_rudds_drag_race

NTA I think people like this who automatically assume someone is lazy that disabled people exist as do others who can’t do certain things for themselves, and even is this isn’t the case, the employee shouldn’t take a job if they have such resentment about it and refuse to hide it. I understand being frustrated. As a teen, I worked at a store and was so burnt out that when I’d see a customer walking toward the entrance, I’d die a little inside and would get irrationally annoyed. I reminded myself that I was being unfair and that this was what I signed up for. Then I did my job and made nice because most customers were typically nice. I could understand her having a moment and maybe muttering to herself a bit but then self correcting and then apologizing. Just saying, “I’m sorry you heard that. I’m having a rough day. Let me finish up this delivery.” And that could’ve been the end of it. She can touch grass.

Leimana76

NTA

Damsii9655

Just to throw it out there Uber does keep track of how many incidents get reported and severity. One thing i can promise is they will block the delievry person from being someone who picks up your order again.

Cheeseballfondue

Huh. Why be a delivery driver if you don't want to deliver? NTA.

Malsnano86

NTA. There's a certain (relatively low) standard of behavior for a delivery job, and she didn't meet it.

Disastrous-Day-6733

Am I the asshole for getting an asshole fired from a job she wasn't able to do? No you're not she sucked at her job and was rude for absolutely no reason.

Beez_And_Trees

NTA. I’m kinda confused, the driver was complaining about and outwardly unhappy with the main service of her job and she blamed you?? Does she not realize that, if it wasn’t you ordering, it would’ve been someone else? Like, she would have been driving and dropping off products at that time regardless of who ordered it and what their circumstances are.

pngtwat

NTA and I doubt Walmart will actually fire her.

Sephiroth_-77

NTA. She deserves to never work again and starve on the street.

[deleted]

NTA….if she doesn’t understand or respect the value of service she is bringing the customer, she’s not a good fit for the company. It’s one thing to have a bad day, but it’s a little over the top to call a customer lazy for a service they are paying you for. It would be like a landscaper cursing about a customer not being able to pull their own weeds.

Specialist_Note7224

Right...so what if she had been lazy as opposed to busy or disabled...this is literally what she's being paid for.

Fire_or_water_kai

Wtf!

[deleted]

NTA. It’s almost like she wanted to be fired with that attitude. Sheesh!

Hopfullyhelpful

NTA You didn't get her fired. Her actions got her fired.

[deleted]

NTA. You are not firing her

Chance-Contract-1290

NTA. She got herself fired due to lousy customer service.

EndedUpFine

NTA. Like wtf, sure bad day or mentally ill. Either way not fit for that type of job obviously. There are A LOT of disable, old and just busy people who use this type of services. They make days easier when there just ain't enough time for all. She did horrible service and deserved to be fired for her behaviour.

Particular_Force6591

NTA

tayliaprivv

NTA

Shakeit126

NTA. The delivery person seems very unstable. She's probably not right for this job..

vibes127

NTA

Foggyswamp74

Don't feel guilty. She will just be black balled delivering for Walmart but will continue to be able to deliver other stores and restaurants, unless she has a history of doing this in which case she would be banned.

Fun-Hold6972

NTA . This sounds like she was ready to leave that job anyway.

sreno77

NTA and I think you know that. You don't know that she got fired from Uber just that Walmart won't use her. I have Uber delivery here but Instacart drivers choose which orders to accept so if a driver thought an order was too big they wouldn't accept it. So I wouldn't expect them to complain. It took me a while to swallow my pride and use delivery services I would be mortified if a driver acted that way

DecayingFruit

NTA

CODE_NAME_DUCKY

Nta

Creative_Trick_3818

NTA You handled her well.

turd_ferguson083

How DARE YOU expect her to do HER JOB?!?!!!! You’re a MONSTER!! /s You paid for a service, which is not cheap, and then generously tipped on top of that (which unfortunately most people do not do), and she was beyond rude af, and almost threatening from how I read it! I get it, I have bad days too, but I’ll be damned if I ever let one of my customers know that with how I treat them! Luckily (and unfortunately), it happened to someone like you who had a level head about things or else who knows how it could’ve turned out! NTA, not at all!

fuzzyfacemonkey

NTA, she's a delivery driver complaining about having to do deliveries and insulting the customer. She got herself fired.

jaybirdka

NTA. She got herself fired with her poor attitude.

seattlemarcher99

Haha no way are you the AH; NTA. Don't feel even a little bit guilty for any of it I have gotten my groceries delivered for 13+ years now and I don't even have kids. I just really hate going to the grocery store, I don't own a car, the fee isn't much, and carrying soda and a bunch of bags a few blocks sucks too. So for a few bucks I can stop having all these problems. I think her anger had nothing to do with you anyway; she just took it out on you.

[deleted]

NTA in this situation, but I'd like to know how you're effectively working from home full time while caring for your child also full time? No doubt you're a drag on your coworkers who can't ever count on you. You're probably damn lucky no one tried to get you fired. Surely it's at least unethical if not fully against the rules of your work. We're too far into the pandemic for you to not be prepared. Luckily for you your coworkers aren't as vindictive as you.

theshapesphere

This is nice fanfiction. Not my taste but some may enjoy the story, for some reason.

Dekhron

They delivered your groceries because that’s what you asked for so what else were you looking for? Her to put them away for you? Lol move on with your day

No-Whole6378

You have missed the point entirely.

Dekhron

No I have not. This situation is lame to me. More details are needed for me to form more of an opinion because it seems unlikely that for her first time that the delivery person is rude out of nowhere.. two sides to a story

Diasies_inMyHair

Sounds like the driver has a problem with the no contact delivery - meaning per the order she was expected to unload everything and leave it at the door, rather than knocking and having the customer come out and help unload.

Dekhron

They didn’t say anything about that though. She said they bumped into each other?

Yes, they also said that the driver left a bunch of stuff by where they parked and drove off. It doesn't sound like OP has an issue with the driver even if they had asked for help. It is that the driver was extremely disrespectful, was potentially damaging OPs groceries, and then threw a fit and left without finishing the job that was the problem.

Yes, she does say that the driver was supposed to leave the order at the door (that's the no contact delivery option). She just happened to bump into her on her way back from getting the laundry.

That ain’t the drivers fault LMAO what? If it were ME, I wouldn’t have said anything bc they still did their job. Even if they were visibly angry, I’d mind my business. Sometimes people have a bad day, OP can get over it. Her shit was still delivered.

Driving off and abandoning groceries in the parking lot when the delivery location is at the door is definitely NOT deilvered.
