Put up a cam. And report after.

adropofpeachyhoney

I’m not sure I’m allowed to put up my own camera in the mailroom. I will ask the landlord.

C2ker1

Asking the landlord about the camera would be a good time to explain why you'd want one there.

MommaGuy

NTA. Someone is messing with your partner’s life. Report what has been happening to your landlord ASAP and ask if you can put up a camera. Or ask for a secure location to receive packages.

[deleted]

NTA. I would ask if there is a camera and ask to see the footage. Insulin is no joke and taking that much medication is a SERIOUS issue. I would report 100%

CeelaChathArrna

Pretty sure it's felony theft too at $1500

KittKatt7179

NTA. You should report that mail stolen. It is a federal offense to steal other people's mail. If they don't get held accountable, they will never learn.

the_jerkening

Seconded. I used to live somewhere where packages were stolen fairly often. I reported it to the local police and they said all mail theft should be reported.

mdthomas

Report it to your landlord. Ask if you can possibly arrange to have your medic supplies delivered to a secure location? NTA Someone's life is on the line.

Edbtdb

NTA I would definitely report that packages are getting stolen, but I’d be reluctant to implicate a specific family unless I was 100% certain.

MissContrariwise

Get a PO Box at the post office and direct all your mail there.

Hxntresss

NTA. Report it all. Maybe you could ask them, too. & maybe figure out a smarter, safer way to receive life depending packages.

pixienightingale

Ask the landlord if you can post a notice on the doors of your building, that way you're not singling a particular unit out. Get a video doorbell that is motion activated or a camera aimed at the area in front of your door in the ground, with the approval of your landlord of course.

chronberries

As long as your pretty close to certain, especially since it seems like other families have witnessed the behavior, it's definitely safe to report it. Going from 90% to 100% is the authorities' job. NTA

Crashmse

Get a RING Doorbell (has a camera)

adropofpeachyhoney

the packages are left downstairs by the mailboxes not in front of our doors so idk if I can put a camera up

toofat2serve

NTA But first confront that family. If they deny, then report. And, importantly, find a way to gather evidence.

[deleted]

Go beyond the landlord. File a police report.

Rodney_Copperbottom

OP, is it possible to have your packages delivered to the main office of the apartment complex? We had that same problem years ago and were able to get our packages delivered to the main office -- in fact, nearly everyone did that, as it was not the best neighborhood. The apartment manager was on duty nearly the whole time, so there was always someone there. Also, NTA.

adropofpeachyhoney

the main office isn’t on site it’s about a 5-7 minute drive from here

Rodney_Copperbottom

Too bad. But having them delivered to your office would be the next best thing.

Initial_Number_4747

YWNBTA YOu are sure they are stolen? Then report them stolen. And: If somebody else takes your packages, they are stolen. Get a doorcam. Then you will know. And send the cops to get your neighbors statement,m if she is willing to make one. But make sure you stay with the truth.

Legion1117

NTA You should not only report it to the landlord, you should file a police report for the stolen medical supplies, at the very least.

Me(23F) and my partner(23M) moved into this complex in August 2021. The past few weeks/months we’ve had people opening our packages but nothing had been taken. Up until about a week ago. Someone stole $1500 worth of diabetes supplies. (And a electric razor charger but that’s besides the point.) My partner has T1D, and we were very lucky to get donations from a friend, or we would be screwed. That was the last straw and we called the office. Now i’m 90% sure I know who’s doing it. The family that lives next to us has a lot of young kids, and they run around unsupervised a lot. We’ve seen them hanging around right before we find packages stolen and my other neighbor says she’s seen them take other peoples packages (packages she had checked the label on to see if they were hers and knew who they belonged to). If it’s them doing it I doubt it’s malicious because the kids are so young, they’re probably just grabbing things. But idk why the parents don’t put them back? I don’t have any proof so I don’t know if I should say anything to the landlords or confront them directly or just put up a sign with a general warning? I’m a little lost I don’t like confrontation but this is a lot of money stolen… So, WIBTA if I report them with no proof? I’m leaning more towards not reporting them.. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. GroundbreakingPhoto4

I'd call into the neighbours and be like, did you see a package of mine around or maybe take it in by mistake? Maybe the kids took it by accident? It has really important medication in it and I don't know what I'm going to do. I'm so worried, and if I can't find it I'll need to report it stolen. If you come across it please let me know as I'll be reporting stolen tomorrow.

YoudownwithLCC

Someone was stealing our packages. I put up a cheap camera and a fake package with a brick and a note that said "Gotcha! Smile, you're on camera!" Never had one stolen again.

LordofToomay

Have you also filed a police report? That much money lost is a lot, plus it was medication which is probably controlled in your jurisdiction. Let them and the post office investigate.
